Welcome everyone to New Haven! This week will be a very special tournament. Not only is it the last tournament of the year (non grand slam/YEC), but it is also the 2nd of only 2 tournaments where both the men and women are in the same place! (again, excluding grand slams). So far, the women's hardcourts have really been dominated by 2 players: Sybille Bammer and Maria Sharapova. Bammer has made the final of every yournament, winning the first, but losing to the next 2 to the now #4 player in the world, Sharapova. Will these 2 be able to dominate once again this week, or will someone be able to take them down and claim their spot as a hardcourt champion?

On the men's side, the hardcourt season has been one of many different winners. There have been 3 tournaments, and 3 different winners. However, one player has seemed to take over the position as the best hard court player, in spite of the fact that he hasn't won a tournament. American James Blake has made the last 2 hard court finals, and has shown that he is ready to win a title (losing both in 3 sets)! If there has one thing these multiple winners have done, it's left open the US Open Series! Last week's winner, Ivan Ljubicic, is in first but only by 25 points over 2nd place Blake. With 100 points up for grabs for the winner, either of these 2 players could win those extra RACE ranking points!

But no, remember when I made the US Open Series points, but then realized that if I gave 200 for Tier I and only 100 for winning Tier II, 50 for Tier III, and 25 for Tier IV, then you could win the Tier I and you would be un-catchable??? Yeah, well I wrote down thoes faulty points, but then when I changed the points in the Series Standings Info thread I realized now that I never wrote down the new ones...... So basically, the ones in the thread are correct, but the ones I wrote down (and used to do standings) are the old, faulty system.

It's shocking there's such a big gap between the women's winner's points, and the men's winner's. The women's top players were just much more consistent on hard :eek:

Well,I thought of Sybille getting 2nd before the finals.That was why I supported the underdogs(e.g. Flavia,Ana).I guess I jinxed them.:lol: :p and this USO series actually shows you only need to do well when it matters most,especially in big ocassions.
