Who Will Win Roland Garros?

The Favourites

Spain
If Spain are to win a grand slam then it will be it. They have had a great clay season and a chance at number 1 and if they play their best they can beat anyone. They havnt been as dominant as was predicted but they have had some great tournaments. They are huge favourites for the titles and they could be number 1 after this tournament so the extra motivation could push them the whole way.

South Africa
Another team of clay specialist who have always been there or there abouts. They could win this if they play their best but their title drought is the only problem. They have the potential to end that in Paris though, if they can battle through a very tough draw.

New Zealand
The New Zealanders are another team who have made a name for themselves on the clay. Lead by Sacha Jones, they have titles and finals to show for it and some big ranking boosts. They havnt got the best of draws but they have the potential to go deep in the tournament.

The Contenders

Russia
The Russians have been the revelation of the Clay season. They started it ranked in the low 20s and are now they are top 10 players. Their 'leader' has been Nadia Petrova who has even won a Tier I title. If they play like that again they are a threat to anyone. Thye have beaten anyone who is anyone and they could go all the way. They are not loaded when it come to surface points but that hasnt stopped them before. It will be very intresting to see how they progress.

Australia
The Aussies are a Top 3 team with a chance of number 1 with a good draw so anything is possible. They won in Charleston so they now what it takes and when they are on the ball they are a threat to anyone. We know they want to be known as the best team around but they have only shown glimpses of the tennis that would take them there. I think their potential is still unfuffiled but I also think they have a good shot of realesing it here.

The Outside Chancers

Georgia
After a shock win in France, Georgia possibly show the best of the non-seeds but other strong clay teams such as Argentina, Slovenia and Serbia are more than capable of making shock runs. Upsets are almost bound to happen and any seed could make a shock run but after a strong performance last week Georgia are my bet for the suprise run.

Czech Republic
Despite no titles as of yet, a top 5 team can never be discounted and the Czechs great consitency could see them pull deep into the draw. They seem to always get through the rounds quietly and then spring suprises on the other teams. In my opinion, the dark horses of the tournament.

Great Britian
Another top 5 player who could do damage. However the Brits are not clay specilist and have spent most of the season copmeting in (but also winning) lower Tier harcourt events. They have a difficult draw but if they convert their hardcourt ability to the dirt of Roland Garros they could spring a suprise the field

The 'I better give them a mention' ers

China
Well there the number 1 so we better give them a mention. If they turn up, they have a good chance due to their experaince. The surface points is a huge disadvantage to them but they have the capabilities to beat a lot of other teams. Hopefully we will see their potential in Paris but maybe getting them to the stadium will be a success.

Harkleroad - Williams Sisters Ready To Rock Roland Garros!!!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/593/hj5588.jpg

No, not really, but the headline did sound good huh? We know we suck on clay", said a bubbly American Ashley Harkleroad. We came to Paris to party, plain and simple. And I guess we'll compete at the Roland Garros event, while were are here (she laughs).

Venus, Serena, Lindsay and I just flew into Paris today. We've actually been training on hard-courts for the last week.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/507/Lindsay_setting_for_return_2005_Pilot_Pen.jpg

Just trying to get our game strong for that season. We are also looking forward to the grass and picking up some doubles titles during that season! Venus and Serena will be playig doubles here for the US at this event.

We'ed like to wish everyone good luck here at Roland Garros and we are happy to be competing in our first grand slam event in WTT. :yeah:

To say thank you for helping with WTT, I decided to give Nickwhittle14 and E.Dementieva_Fan the chance to have one player from another country to represent theirs and switcn nationality (if the player was on another team I PMd the coach). Therefore:

Elena Dementieva is now Australian
Mathilde Johansson is now Swedish

they can play as these players from any time now

Uruguay trying to get in the draw

The south american team is a new in the tour and it´s players are very young. However they have had an excellent start and they are very confidente to be the only team to go through the qualy.

- I think I have a chance against Mirza, she is better than me but I have nothing to lose. We made a good tournament last week so the uruguayan crowd will not be dissapointed if we don´t make it this time. But it would be great to enter in a GS- said Maria Eugenia Roca, who has the responsability to carry the Uruguay flag for the second time in a row.

Uruguay coach (argentinian Catriel) said he will rotate the players to find the best team and the backup players, but he also said he is delighted with Marie Eugenia´s performance so long.

http://www.national-symbol.com/C/china/china-flag.gif

WTT #1 China has been aware of the avian flu disease that has been happening in Paris and has caused deaths at least ten people in the city at the moment.Yet the tour director still demands the tournament to be begun later today and all the countries to arrive to the grand slam clay tournament or else, they will be banned.

China's team manager has withdrawn before this but owing to the tour director's threat to ban the countries from playing the tour,he has decided to let his players to come and play."It's absolutely f**king absurd that this kind of things to happen. The tour director is of no sympathy when the epidemic is occuring. We,humans hav the right to do anything to avoid something that is dangerous but that bugger treats this trouble as if it was nothing.Other countries such as Israel,Ukraine and Austria has also been threatened to send their players.I have no choice but to send Yan Zi as the player to represent our country as to care about my team's future.Anyway,we'll definitely try to sort out the problem ourselves. We'll probably meet at court soon if he still insists to ban the countries who has not been sending players to play."

Tour Director Speaks Out!

I would like assure everyone that the flu going around Paris will not infect any of the WTT players if they are to stay around the Roland Garros area. The WTT first priority is for the welfare of the players and if we were worried about the situation we would have postponed the tournament. There is no reason what so ever why any team should miss one of the biggest tournaments this year - let alone the number one team. Everyteam got a PM being warned about the consequence of not turning up and its completly fair, espically to the other players who have remained dedicated. The outburst of the Chinese was just attention seeking. But still, like everyone else on tour, I wish them the best of luck at Roland Garros.

China Team Manager Rebuts Tour Director

"Firstly,I am not an attention seeker. All I did was to defend my players and not let them getting any harm. This bird flu isn't any other disease that can be cured easily,in fact,it will cause death!!!So get the facts straight! The other countries didn't voice out as they fear of getting threatened by you and eventually they'll get ban if they do so.Only I,as the #1 team manager,am able to help them to voice out any of our dissatisfaction. And besides,it is so ridiculous that by staying in this area,we'll not get infected. How sure are you,Mr. Tour Director?I am sure some people here, including the officials or the linesman or even the umpire is gonna get it no matter how 'safe' your area will be.And I'm not letting this matter to end abruptly.I'm gonna do everything right that will help everyone before sad things happen."

Matches Postponed Due To Avian Flu

A couple of the officials has been detected to have infected by the avian flu on the first day of the event.Due to the sudden outbreak, the tour director has decided to delay all the matches until day two.His decision, however, has caused some trouble among the players as they were not being informed about this as soon as possible. Some just found out the news when they just arrived at the players lounge. Thus, they were very angry about this. The tour director did not explain further about this change of decision.

Besides, another shocking decision was that the draw of the tournament has been redone but it doesn't differ much compared to the previous one.The only major change is that the #1 seed has got a bye and now will have to face the winner between Poland and Germany in the next round. The team manager, however, was still not satisfied about the change of the draw."It's so unlucky that we still need to suffer for another day in this silly event. The players have been complaining about this yet the tour director was not even concerning about it.He just made his decision and 'poof' then gone.No explaination or what so ever. Now we have to stay here for another freaking torchering day."

Before this article is due,the General Hospital of Paris has confirmed that the two officials has indeed infected by avian flu and will be quarantined for further inspection.Rumuors around saying that the tour director suggests that the two person to be killed immediately in order to prevent any further infection around Paris, especially inside the venue of Roland Garros.

Annoucement

To say thank you for helping with WTT, I decided to give Nickwhittle14 and E.Dementieva_Fan the chance to have one player from another country to represent theirs and switcn nationality (if the player was on another team I PMd the coach). Therefore:

Elena Dementieva is now Australian
Mathilde Johansson is now Swedish

they can play as these players from any time now

(this is only available to people helping or doing extras for WTT - if you have any ideas on how you would like to help then PM me ;))

:wavey:

I think its fairer than given them bonus/ranking points so it dosnt effect you
