BWLH Dec 7th, 2007, 02:07 PM Yan Zi and Team Manager Flee From Paris
http://cimg2.163.com/sports/2006/11/17/wu1701.jpg
After Yan Zi had been defeated by Germany's Tatjana Malek 1-6,4-6,China is now officially out from the French Open and will lose their #1 ranking next week as WTT #2 Spain and #3 Australia, who are close behind the rankings, have advanced to the quarterfinal.
Yan Zi said after the match,"I didn't play my best as I was worried of my safety and the area around me since there were some cases of the bird flu disease around Paris and in this tournament.I couldn't even focus well in my match.Even after losing,I refused to shake hands with my opponent(Malek) because I was worried that she'll transmit the disease if she has any.Anyway,I hope I'll leave here safe and sound without bringing the disease back to my country."
After that, she was seen to be accompanied by her team manager in the Paris International Airport. They haven't commented much about the loss.

E.Dementieva_FAN Dec 7th, 2007, 03:40 PM Dementieva Beat Ivanovic; Moves Into Slam Quarterfinal
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/graphics/gallery/tennis/french07/daysix/dementieva.jpg
The new Australian play, Elena Dementieva has played really good tennis this week so far. She has won her first two match against Emma Laine in the first round and against Ana Ivanovic in the second round. Hew next opponent will be the Czech 5th seed Zuzana Ondraskova.
"I love Paris and I love this tournament! The weather, the people, the shopping centre... everything is very good. As for me I was a bit scared because of this tournament but I'm already in the quarterfinal, so I'm glad about it. Zuzana will be very strong rival but I hope I can beat her."
BWLH Dec 7th, 2007, 03:56 PM Don't worry about the bird flu Lena!
Play well and win!!!
and hopefully one of the players in Spain's team gets it. :p

E.Dementieva_FAN Dec 7th, 2007, 08:46 PM Dementieva Makes Her First Slam Semifinal
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20040531/spr3.jpg
The 3rd seed Australian Elena Dementieva keeps her good form, she beat Zuzana Onraskova today in 3 sets. Elena played very interesting tennis, she was on fire in the first, but she showed her worst tennis ever in the second. Fortunately she was able to win the match after that.
"Well, to my mind it was a great match, Zuzana is a great player, but today I was better. My next opponent will be German Tatiana Malek, I think we'll play a good match."
BWLH Dec 8th, 2007, 09:14 AM Roland Garros Semifinals Predictions
Semifinal 1:
GER Tatjana Malek vs [3] AUS Elena Dementieva
Germany’s road to semifinals:
QF: Tatjana Malek def. [15] BLR Olga Govortsova 7-6(0) 6-3
R16:Tatjana Malek def. [1] CHN Yan Zi 6-1 6-4
R32:Tatjana Malek def. [9] POL Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 3-6 8-6

R16:[3] AUS Elena Dementieva def. SRB Ana Ivanovic 0-6 6-1 6-4
R32:[3] AUS Elena Dementieva def. FIN Emma Laine 7-5 4-6 6-2
#3 seed Australia will face surprising semifinalist Germany, who came out of nowhere,in the first half.Elena Dementieva, who has been given
Australia nationality just before French Open, has been playing pretty well, although all her matches ended in 3 sets.Germany,on the other hand, has made upsets en route to the semis. They have beaten 9th seed Poland,#1 ranked China and #15 Bulgaria, especially the last two matches were won in straight sets! It'll be interesting to see whether Elena is able to hold off her opponent,or will the German pull off yet another biggest upset.
Elena def. Tatjana 5-7,7-6(4),6-4
Semifinal 2:
[12] RSA Amanda Coetzer vs [2] ESP Arantxa Parra Santonja
South Africa’s road to semifinals:

R32:[12] Amanda Coetzer def. ARG Jorgelina Cravero 0-6 6-4 6-0
Spain’s road to semifinals:

0-6 6-2 6-2
R16:[2] Arantxa Parra Santonja def. [16] ROM Sorana Cristea
6-1 6-0
R32:[2] Arantxa Parra Santonja def. THA Tamarine Tanasugarn
6-2 6-2
This is one of the highly anticipated match in this event involving two seeded countries, who are favourites to win the coveted title. Both countries are very strong in this surface. However,Spain definitely has the upper hand as they have more experience and has won many clay titles so far. However,do not count out South Africa as Amanda has made her way through until this stage no matter how difficult her opponent is.She has a tougher road to this stage compared to Arantxa's,who won her matches rather easily. So hopefully it'll be a high quality match which is expected by the crowd.
Arantxa def. Amanda 7-6(3),4-6,7-6(4)

Spain come back from staring defeat in the face to take a place in their first grand slam. Both clay specialist played great matches but there is only room for one in the final and it went to Spain. They will now battle it out with Australia for not only the Roland Garros title, but the number 1 ranking aswell.
