I was 19 then...

I just remember that I've only seen the match since the end of the 1st set and was really stunned by her performance. I've never been in doubt she would win it...
At the USO 3 weeks later I watched the whole match. After the 2nd there I thought how awful it would be now to lose the 88-season in that following set. I showed some tears after she won it.

Misa Krajicek goes to the 51st place. This is after her loss in the first round of Roland Garros. But everybody is telling that she can't go to the Olympics. But I think there are still around 5 players who have to pass her. So I really hope that she can go, although she has to break the losing spell that is cast on her very soon to reach at least a second round there!

Things will probably change quite a bit even after the ranking deadline because a number of players will not play. Bartoli and Srebotnik I believe have already mentioned that they may not go. If Bartoli does not go, then Mauresmo gets to go, but if Srebotnik does not go, than someone will be promoted from the Alternate list.

Also, the points from 75K Rome and 50K Surbiton during the second week of the French will count toward the Olympics.

As I mentioned in the post above the most recent list. They have only said in interviews that they will not play. When it is official, I will remove them.

The situation with the Czech girls has become very interesting with Kvitova beating Szavay.

As it stands right now: Vaidisova, Safarova, Benesova, and Zakopalova would go.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. I know that with the men some wildcard go to players from country who have no decent tennis players, like Togo. Just because they probably want all continents to be in. And as you might think of, there are a lot of countries that don't have tennisplayers in there!

It could have affected Dutch, but as Misa did qualify and is the only one who has a chance to go, there is no problem. About the withdrawing, we having to think of US Open which is right after. Roddick doesn't go to China for example, because he thinks the US Open is more important and Bejing doesn't fit in the schedule. So there might be some withdrawals with the women too! But of course not sure.

Erakovic needs one more win in Surbiton to pass Chan on the list. Nakamura could also get herself on the list with a strong showing in Surbiton, but other than that no other ITF performances this week can get anyone onto the list.

We know that things will probably change when we receive the actual list in Mid-Late June with the team selections from the individual NOCs.

Do you mean at Fed Cup? You only must make yourself available two times. You do not actually have to play. Dementieva is eligible for the Olympics.

ITF begins Olympic entry process


The entry process for the 2008 Olympic Tennis Event in Beijing begins this week, with the ITF notifying National Associations and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the players eligible for direct acceptance into the singles and doubles (top 10 only) events and sending out application forms for ITF places.

Fifty-six players will qualify as direct acceptances into both the men’s and women’s singles events. Six ITF Places will be allocated by the ITF Olympic Committee, while the two Tripartite Commission Invitation Places have already been announced.

National Associations/NOCs have until 23 June to confirm the entry of players eligible for direct acceptance and to return the application form for ITF places. At the same time, National Associations/NOCs will nominate doubles teams for the Olympic Tennis Event. The ITF will announce the full list of entries on 2 July.

Does anyone know if Russia will go strictly by world rankings for their singles players? Current rankings would give a team of Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Dementieva and Chakvetadze. However, it's interesting to note that if the YTD rankings were used Safina would replace Chakvetadze (and Zvonareva would also move ahead of her).
