Welcome to Week #14 of the WMFT Tour! Even though this is a Tier IV, it's in important week because it's one of only 3 remaining grass court events! Last week, we saw 5 players from each tour retire, meaning we'll have one of the smallest fields in a while! Another thing special about this event: it's the only "made up" tour event (excluding the Beijing Team Championships). The WTA does not have a tournament in Newport! Good luck to all the players!

For the men's grass tier IV, we take a trip to Nottingham, England for the Nottingham Open. Last week on the men's side, we saw Marin Cilic take home his first title over Novak Djokovic, who was in his first final of his career! Will either of these players continue to do well and make a good showing here, or will some new rise up and take their first title, or will we see an ex-champion once again claim a trophy? I'd like to wish good luck to everyone this week!

2 tournaments ago. I have no problem with Lucie playing (I'd actually prefer that she did!) but if you want her to you'll have to send correct points! (You just divided your points into 3 sets, which is right for Tomas. But for women, you need to divide your points into 13 games!)

Lucie Safarova has been added to the draw and will play Ashley Harkleroad in the first round :)

I haven't done any results past these, but based on my observations I have 2 predictions:
1) Maria Sharapova or Tamira Paszek will make the final from the bottom half (I :hearts: love both their points!)
2) The 2 top half quarterfinals will be 2 of the best matches in the history of WMFT. They all have very similar, INCREDIBLE game plans :kiss:

Wow :worship: In the Roddick/Srichaphan, that score means that Paradorn had 1 more point in the first set, Andy 1 more in the second, then they both had the same points in the third :eek: Andy only won because he was seeded higher! Great match :bowdown:

As for my men's "observations", all I have to say is that I'm going to pick a Healey over Baghdatis final. And also, Rafael Nadal needs to change his points!

-What a good win for Lindsay :worship: Amelie has really been struggling, she's yet to change her points during the grass season! She still has a very good plan, but it's just not effective anymore as other players catch on!

-Even though Ana was seeded and Elena isn't, given Elena's run last week I though for sure this was Likhovtseva's match to win! Ana played really great. Out of the 4 players in the top half, her game plan is the most different (not by much), so this really was a good win!

M.Sharapova def. A.Harkleroad 6-4 7-5
-I LOVE Maria's points! She didn't change them from last week, I just think this week she's got a good draw! Her points are attacking yet reserved, and it has worked really well against some of these (usually) tough opponents! As for Ashley, her game plan is rather plain.. It works aginst the opponents in the early rounds, but deep in tournaments, it's just not good enough!

-Tamira's is another gameplan I like! It's very original, and it really takes it to certain plans (aka pushers and ball bashers :o). Tamira probably won't win any grand slams with this plan, but it's certainly going to get her deep in most tournaments!


I hope next week, for the Tier I, some of the players (aka top seeds) change points :( ;)

-I definitely thought, Marcos being more active, that he was going to win this game. But, Harley was really on today, and this week! He has changed his plan for a while, but it's one that can work really well, given he's playing the right players! As for Marcos, I almost think his looks better, but he was unlucky today!

-Andy has one of the most... Basic game plans I've ever seen! It's simple, but against a lot of players (especially the top ones for some reason) it's effective! Again, he'll need to change it for next week, hopefully get it good enough to get a final/even tournament win! As for Nikolay, he's got a good plan, always has (that's why he's the 4th seed :p) Andy was just too tough today!

-It's good to see Nathan back into another semi! He really hasn't changed much since his several tournament wins at the beginning of the year.. He has just been unlucky lately, and the players he has gone up against have been very tough, and know how to beat him! I would suggest he change his game plan for next week, not too much because it's working, but atleast a little to keep his opponents guessing!

-And so, the run of the newcomer comes to an end! Federer's coach is just having a really good week this week, both Maria and Roger in the semis! He really has a lot of potential, and lately he's really figuring that out! As for Sebastien, you could definitely a real force in the future if you keep working, tweeking your plan till it's perfect!

Your game plan used to work because you were "more advanced" than the others. Your game plan only appeared in like 3 players on the entire tour... Now, over half the draw has it and when you play someone with the same style, it's basically as to who wins. There are definitely a few minor adjustmants you should make, though ;)

Newport, RI, USA -- Lindsay Davenport came through an epic tussle with Maria Sharapova to win the first title of her career in Newport. The American won 6-4 3-6 7-6(4) in a match lasting over two and a half hours.

Davenport began strongly, as she has done the whole event, with her serve causing particular damage. However, the young Russian rallied, countering Lindsay's drives with some thundering groundstrokes of her own. A couple of lucky net chords in the tenth game aided Maria to take the set 6-4.

The final set proved to be the strangest and most thrilling of all. Davenport, clearly annoyed about the bad luck she had had in the previous game, stormed out to a 5-0 lead, smacking winner after winner and leaving Sharapova flummoxed. But she tensed up, and Sharapova responded quickly, exposing Lindsay's lack of movement and displaying her fighting qualities. At 5-5, it would've been easy for Lindsay to collapse in on herself and concede the match. But she dug deep, playing a solid tiebreak and thus sealing the title.

'I'm very happy to finally win a tournament on this tour,' said Lindsay. 'Obviously it would've been nicer to get a Slam rather than a Tier IV, but this is still a good confidence-booster. I feel very comfortable on grass courts as the surface suits my game well, and I've shown that here, taking out a bunch of great players in succession.'

When asked about her Wimbledon prospects, Davenport said: 'Well, there's another week for me to hone my game, but whatever happens I'll go into Wimbledon with the belief that I can go all the way. I know that when I get my act together I am one of the best players around, so it's a matter of dedicating myself and applying what I do in practice onto the match court.'
