young_gunner913 Nov 7th, 2007, 06:46 PM Uneventful Tournament for Star Players
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/star.jpg
At the J&S Cup in Warsaw, Poland, the tour's top stars such as Elena Dementieva, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Sania Mirza, and Nikola Hofmanova were all knocked out in round one matches. Six of the top eight seeds fell in their round one matches which raises questions of the passion of some of the tour's top players.
Although we saw a beautiful Cinderella run for Marion Bartoli, the tournament still lacked the star power to bring in the big audiences that came to tournaments such as Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Antwerp, and Doha.
Bartoli, who captured the crown after a horrendous start to her season, loosing in three consecutive qualfying matches, became the sweetheart of Poland. Her win here was the only really good thing that came from this tournament. Sure other players that we don't get to hear from that often made big and bold runs but without any of the top players in the world here, most people said, "Why even bother?"
"I come to see Serena Williams pump fist like animal, or see Elena Dementieva hit serve ball into net." said audience member Olga Dobrzynska. "But I see nothing of the sort. It major disappointment for childrens and me."
The top players on the tour need to wake up and start playing at the status of their ranking. Stop slacking off just because you have a couple hundred ranking points over the lower ranked players, because if you keep playing the way you all have been, soon enough, you'll be the one's fighting each other for qualfying spots.
young_gunner913 Nov 7th, 2007, 06:54 PM congrats Marion!
ilovepaszek Nov 7th, 2007, 11:23 PM Sorry my computer was break in this week
