young_gunner913 Oct 24th, 2007, 07:42 PM Shahar Blogs in Stockholm
"Hey there guys. Sorry I haven't blogged that much, I caught a little cold so for the past couple of days I've been getting over that and trying to get some training in. It's really pretty here in Stockholm. I got to go to a garden cafe with Anna earlier for brunch and it was really tasty. All the flowers here have so much color and they're so beautiful to look at. I ran into Venus Williams today at the training courts, she told me that she got a wild card entry into the tournament, at first I almost shit myself because she's Venus Williams and whenever a Williams sister is in the draw, you know they're going to be able to do a lot of damage. As long as she's not in my side of the draw I'll be happy. But I'm still really happy that she's playing here as well, she's a great person to hang out with even though she'll kick my ass on the court. Well, that's all for now, I'm going to go order some room service and watch Futurama on dvd. Later gators."

And the Charleston crowd thought they got good matches. Awesome match from both and both fought amazingly. Venus played like a seasoned pro coming from behind in the first two sets and saving match points but Sharar fought like a champion clawing back from 0-4 down to force it into a tiebrake. Overall one of the best matches on the tour so far and congrats to Venus on such an amazing debut win.

Natash. Oct 24th, 2007, 08:59 PM Slovakia starts off with a bang
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/8453/fed20cup200711oz9.jpg
Dominika Cibulkova, 18, started off her country's debut with a win, defeating Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden 6-2 4-6 6-4 in a hard fought win.
"I was very solid and kept getting everything back with a lot of power. My serve was consistent today as well. It's great to start off my first match with a win!"
Her play began to decline in the second set and Arvidsson
took advantage of the situation with big groundstrokes and won the second set 6-4.
However, the young Slovak began to regain her earlier form and became more aggressive and showed the crowd favorite the door, winning the match 6-2 4-6 6-4.
In doubles, she plays with Daniela Hantuchova.
"Daniela is a very nice girl and we practice a lot. She gives me great advice so I can't wait to play our first match together!"
GracefulVenus Oct 24th, 2007, 10:02 PM Venus Williams Debuts in Stockholm
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/21238794204venus.jpg
The Americans have a new coach, GracefulVenus, and he has added a star studded line-up to his team. Lindsay Davenport, Venus and Serena Williams, and Ashley Harkleroad will round out his squad for the USA.
"I'm really looking forward to my team coming on tour and doing well from the start. Match-play will be spread evenly between these four super stars in order for them to rest up for future tournaments and help to prepare thier team mates for future tournaments.
Debuting in Stockholm will be Venus Williams. I'm looking for her to help the USA get their first title here on the hardcourts of Stockholm."

The world number 1 are our final team into the Semis with a routine victory today. However playing at a lower tier whilst their rivals are battling it out on the clay will mean anything less than winning this tournament could spell trouble for the Chinese.

Venus Williams of the US battles for her spot into the semi-finals of Stockholm defeating Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 7-5, 6-0. Williams was off to another slow start in this match, but after getting a crucial break to take the second set, she steam rolled through the rest of the match hitting 11 winners in the third set alone.
"Wow! That's really all I can say right now. Belarus is the no. 3 seed coming into this event and it just feels great to get a win over such an established team. I'm so happy to do my part to put the US on the map. Of course we love the hardcourts and it really showed today in my game."

Akiko Morigami looks to the sky after missing a matchpoint
Japanese player Akiko Morigami endured a nightmare defeat to the number 2 seed Anne Keothavong in Stockholm today, having missed a matchpoint in the final set tiebreaker.
Morigami started off strongly, taking the opening set 6-1, only to see her game fall apart as she produced several errors to lose it 6-0. Morigami raised her game in the final set and saved a matchpoint at 3-5 down in the final set, before taking Keothavong into a thrilling final set tiebreaker. Once again, Keothavong raced into a lead and again missed chances to take the match, before the Japanese star herself created a match point. However, it was not enough as Keothavong ripped a forehand winner, before finally closing out the match 1-6 6-0 7-6(7).
"I don't know what to say. We both had chances to win it. When she had points to win it I just went for broke and it worked. When I had a matchpoint I didn't press on. Anne just played better when it mattered," mused Morigami in her post match conference.
It's not all bad news for Japan though, as Ai Sugiyama, who reached the Doha singles semifinals, teamed up with Ayumi Morita to defeat home duo of Sofia Arvidsson and Johanna Larsson 6-2 0-6 6-2 in the opening round.

"Well,I knew it'd be a tough match, she's(Dulko) a pretty dangerous player. So I just played what I could against her.I was not very focused in the second set but luckily I got the time to regroup myself in the deciding set.She should be pretty happy getting thus far in the tour though."said Yan Zi after the match, beating Argentinian Gisela Dulko in the quarterfinal 6-3,3-6,6-1.
"Now I'm going to face Venus Williams next.Although she and her team just arrived in the tour,I believe she's a very good player with a talented coach to manage the team.So I'll just try my best to hold on to what I have now.Hopefully I'll have a good match and going into the final!"replied Zi on her semifinal opponent-American wildcard Venus Williams.
