Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko moved into the second round of the China Open in Guangzhou follOwing a straight sets victory of Thailands Tamerine Tamasugarn. Alona won the match 7-5 6-3 with some smart play and good groundsrtokes to set up a meeting with the number 7 seed, Wimbledon and Us Open runner-up Mary Peirce of France.

"I am happy with the way I played yesterday. After the US Open I didnt practise to much so I wasnt expecting a lot but Im happy with how well I handled my opponent and the chancge in surface. Hopefully against Mary I will play some of my best tennis and not take it into a tiebrake! If I play well I am confident of progressing and getting deeper into the tournament.

Alona will play the 'tiebrake queen' later today.

Mary is three time Grand Slam Champion, tiebreak Queen. And Ana is the former Roland Garros Champion. I'm sure each other are known very well. It will be really good and hard match.

PREDICTION: I have the feeling, the veteran Mary will win in 2 sets. Not surprising the score will be 7-6 7-6.

This is really unexceptable semifinal. :eek: Maria is the former US Open finalist, but this year, this is only her the 2nd semifinal, she beat before Davenport and Dementieva. And Marion is newcomber, who beat the three time Grand Slam Champion Justine Henin.
As I see it, Marion is a little tired, because this is really her first tournament. Maria is stronger player, and she has more experience from the semifinal.

Other tournament she did that was at the US Open last season. Where she lost the final against World number 1 now, Alicia Molik.

Yesterday in the semi-final she defeated WC player Marion Bartoli 61 63.
Maria: I didn't expect to win against her with a big score like that.
Against Mary it will be much more difficult, but I think I have bigger chances as the last two times we played each other. I'm really motivated to defeat her after these close TB loses.

Finally Maria Sharapova won a title, not a very big one. But that's not important she said, she is already happy she won a title. In the final she played Mary Pierce, she lost already two times before against Mary. This time she played much better and gave Mary no chance.
That gave Masha a very big win; 61 60.

Today she travels to Moscow, it's fine to be back in my home country.
Hopefully I can give the fans in Moscow some great tennis, and if that happens everything is possible.

I also wants to say thanks to all players, without some of your support I woudn't have won this title.
