Welcome to SOUTH BEACH!!! Here in Miami is the home of the Sony Ericsson Open, aka "The Fifth Slam". She's Baaaaaack

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/beauty.jpg

Inteviewer: We're back in an exclusive interview with India's tennis sensation, Sania Mirza here in beautiful Miami, Florida for the 3.4 million dollar tournament, the Sony Ericsson Open. Please welcome back, Sania Mirza!

Sania: Why thank you, it's great to be here... again.

Interviewer: So Sania, last week we saw you comeback with a win, breaking the recent string of losses you had in the Middle East. How was that?

Sania: Well it was good until I lost in the second round.

Interviewer: Any new game plans coming into Miami?

Sania: Of course. Hopefully this one will work, but that's what I've been saying about a lot of my game plans and look what's been happening. I haven't reached a final since Antwerp and my rankings falled to where it used to be. So I'm basically back at square one.

Interviewer: So we've been seeing some little tiffs between you and Russian, Vera Zvonareva. Would you care to comment on that?

Sania: Certainly. She's just angry because I told her the truth about her pictures. Talk about killing the messenger. I mean have you seen those things? And then she gets all pissy because I said they were skanky. I'm a real goof ball and I'm always joking around. If she can't take a joke, oh well.

Interviewer: How do you feel about sharing your title of Article Whore of the Week with her?

Sania: Well, if you can call those incoherent ramblings that she posts with a picture articles, then the more power to you. I think we know who the true article whore is and she's won it 3 times. *Cough ME!*

Interviewer: How do you feel about the Islam comment she said?

Sania: I wasn't really going to talk about that but now that you bring it up... Vera maybe you should open a newspaper or turn on the news sometime so you can stop being so ignorant and learn about what kind of people give Islam a bad name. It's really insulting and a trashy thing to say but I didn't expect much from her. I'm done talking about that subject.

Interviewer: You face Jelena Dokic in round one. How do you feel about that?

Sania: She's a tough player. Very crafty and I expect a good match from her. She's going to give me a fight to the end and she's a great girl. Hopefully I'll be able to get past her, but expect a great match from us.

Interviewer: Well thanks again for the exclusive interview Sania.

Sania: Your welcome.

Interviewer: But I have one last question.

Sania: Go for it.

Interviewer: How can I call these interviews "exclusive" if you're winning article whore of the week every week?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sania: Uh.... that's all the time we have for today. Bye!

(1)Elena Dementieva vs. Margalita Chaknashvili

Margalita Chaknashvili def. (1)Elena Dementieva 3-6,7-5,6-4

Both unfortuantely did not send new points, but this is a shocking result. Marglaita has not played well since the Australian Open and this is probably the most shocking result on tour. Elena is red-hot making the far rounds in each event and has not lost a first round since her walkover in Gold Coast. Congrats Margalita!

Margarlita Chaknashvili def. Anna Chakvetdaze 7-6(5),2-6,6-3

Solid match from Margarlita! Anna--such a shame that someone with your talent is not committed. This is Margarlita's best result--or tied with her QF finishes at Sydney and Melbourne. She faces Nikola Hofmanova or Jie Zheng next so we will see if she can make a semifinal!

Nikola Hofmanova def. Jie Zheng 6-2,6-3

 one of the more lop sided wins in pro tour this season. If Nikola keeps this up, she can possibly do the same damage to Margarlita. Nikola has a good plan but her third set could harm her but her two first sets are very aggressive. Good job Nikola, defeating a semifinalist last week :D

Good match by Na today. Contemplating retirement, she came into Miami with nothing and goes out with something, pushing the Indain Wells champ who is undefeated in her career to the limit. Urszula sent in new points and that is why she won.

*If Urszula did not send in new points, Na Li would have won *

Wow! Silvia was on the brink of retirement and now she is in a QF, the first of her career, after cracking the top 10 earlier this season, I thought she could go higher and here she shows potential. This was a tournament Brie could have won with the upset of Elena D in round one, but she ran into a better player today. Great match by both! :yeah:

The best victory for Sania and she deserves it. Serena should be kicking herself right now! Perfect oppurtuiny to back up her title win in Doha. Sania played beautiful tennis, but she should switch her points up a little more. Next up is crafty Farina-Elia. So she better be ready!

The Seed Stunner Strikes

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/victory.jpg
Sania Mirza celebrates after defeating Serena Williams in their second round match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida.

Once again, the seed stunner has struck again. This time the victim was second-seeded Serena Williams. Sania Mirza who was dubbed the nickname "seed stunner" back in Antwerp after taking down top seeded Elena Dementieva and seventh-seeded Nicole Vadisova en route to the finals. Mirza defeated Williams in a heartbreaking loss for the hometown favorite; 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

"I was in complete shock. After the first set, I thought she was gonna hit me with a double bagel. But it looked as if she ran out of steam, and when that happens, you have to attack. I did, and look where that got me, into the Quarterfinals."

Williams literally blasted Mirza off the court in the first set, needing only 21 minutes to obliterate her and take the set 6-0. However, in the second and third set, Serena became less of a threat, allowing Mirza to get numerous points at the net and letting Mirza become in charge of the points. About 66 minutes later, the Indian sensation Mirza had taken the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3.

"Coming to the net really helped me out a lot. The more power shots she hit at me while I was at the net were really easy to just block into the ground. My forehand started to get into gear and it really couldn't have come at a better time. I hit a lot more winners and in the end that's what really helped me.

Indeed it did. Mirza ended the match with 21 winners to 13 unforced errors while Williams ended the match with 24 winners to 32 unforced errors. Mirza also got in 3 aces to Williams' 5 aces. Even though the numbers may look a little better for the American, she's still going home... even though she lives like ten minutes away.

"I played great tennis. I play Silvia Farina-Elia next and she's a pretty tough player. She just beat Brie Whitehead, so that definently means she can play. She's good but I'm better."

She came into this match basically with the same game plan she used in Indian Wells and Maria came out firing today and I think she could come away with the title with this win. She should get a major confidence boost. I told her this big tournament was coming.

Zvoanareva and her partner, the talented Nikola Hoffmanova, won their doubles quarterfinal against Capriati/Chakvetadze in a rematch of last week's Indian Wells quarterfinal, but the outcome was the same with Zvonareva/Hoffmanova prevailing 7-6(4) 1-6 10-1. They will next face Elena Dementieva/Nicole Vaidisova, in a rematch of last week's final which the latter won in three sets. Vera & Nikola hope for a different outcome this time "obiously we would like to win, but especially since we lost to them last week." said Hoffmanova. When Zvonareva was asked about the fight through the media she had with Sania Mirza last week she replied "Yes, we've had a fight through the media, so what I don't know what everyone is making a big deal about, everyone does'nt get along with everone 100% of the time , however I would like to apologize to Sania for my comment about her and her religion, I'm sorry Sania I would like if we would put this all behind us and star anew".

Maria Kirilenko: "I'm back"
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee105/tom94101616/kirilenko-1.jpg
After four consectative loses, World number 3 Maria Kirilenko back in top by reaching semifinal of the Sony Ericsson Open.

This time, she beats the new Indian Wells and junior Australian Open champion Urszula Radwanska in straight sets in 1 hour and 30 minutes. The scoreline is 7-5 6-3. Maria serves a good percentage of first serve and first serve winning percentage. And she hits less unforced errors than tomarrow, she hits 5 aces and just only 3 doubles faults. Maria can nearly lost the a set when Urszula is serving for the first set in 5-3, but then Maria win four straight games and win the first set. In the second set, it becomes much easier for Makiri, breaks Urszula once and doesn't give chances to Urszula to break. And eventaully win the match 7-5 6-3.

"It's amazing, i didn't expect i can still win some matches, after winning Micaella in first round, i knew i can play some best tennis here, maybe the facilities here are too good. I am very lucky also, because i can nearly lost all matches because my oppoments hold some important points during the match, and thanks god! I have changesd my game plan a little bit with my coach. I am looking forward to my next match!"

In semifinal, Makiri will face unseeded Sania Mirza from India, who beat Silvia Farina Elia in three tough sets. A funny stats: Makiri is the highest seed left in the main draw now!!

ANther great match for Nikola. She defitnely turned it on. Poor Nathalie, good tournament though! Too bad Nathalie ws the only one NOT to send points for the SF. Nikola will have a blast facing 3rd seeded Maria Kirilenko or Sania Mirza in the final.

Sania Mirza def. (3)Maria Kirilenko 1-6,6-1,6-4

Maria was 1 point from a 6-0, but Sania used her points very well and it fit in the palm of her hand today. I think a Miami final is better. Maria  I really thought you could have won this title, now you are 0-4 in Semifinals. Congrats Sania.

Rematch of the Indian Wells final! Good match from Elena/Nicole, they serves particularly well today, even better than their serve in IW!! And Elena serves less doubles faults, and Nicole's forehand continue to prove. Nikola and Vera are just too unlucky, because they have chances to win the match in last set! Anyway, congrats Elena and Nicole reaching their second final. And bad luck Nikola and Vera, you are just unlucky when against Elena and Nicole!

Too impressive from Nathalie and Andy, they reach the final in their debut(They didn't send pts last week), and it seems that they have already became a experienced team. Good volleys, good groundstrokes, good serves, they performed extremly well today. Elena and Robin, too bad. Nothing to say, because Nathalie and Andy are too strong. COngrats Nathalie and Andy reaching the final of the Sony Ericsson Open. Bad luck, Elena and Robin.

Margalita and Lado got more experiences than them. Good serve-and-volley and good speed made Margalita become a good player in both WD nad MX. So Close... Yet So Far

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/wth.jpg

Sania Mirza once again overcame all odds to make her second career final's appearence and once again the result was the same. Mirza lost her chance to win her maiden title. The Indian sensation lost to Nikola Hofmanova in straight sets; 6-3, 7-5. This is the second week in a row Mirza's lost to Hofmanova, she lost in the second round to Nikola at Indian Wells.

"It sucks to make it this far and loose again. I didn't play that great of a match and the score shows it. She played pretty good well but all's she really had to do was show up and rally."

Though she didn't play up to her own standards in the final, Mirza had an amazing run in Miami defeating hometown favorite, second ranked Serena Williams, and the third ranked Maria Kirilenko. With Sania's final appearence, she will once again crack the top 10 and might even be seeded in her next tournament.

"That's very exciting to be seeded, it will be the first time for me and I hope I can live up to my seeding or even beyond it. And of course it's great to be back up in the top 10."

Though Mirza is now 0-2 in finals, she is still proving the fact that she's not a player to mess with. With a massive forehand and amazing net play, Sania has established the fact that she's one of the tour's biggest threats.

"I'm just going to go into the next tournament playing my best and hoping that it's good enough. I've definently had a long road here, but where one journey ends, another one begins. And for me, another journey is just beginning."

SUPER GOOD JOB FROM THE DEBUTATES!!!! They win this huge title in their debut, that is just too good from them, they nearly didn't lost a set in this tournament. And they serve-and-volley extrmely well, Margalita and Lado might be too tired, because they played too many three-sets-match, and they didn't use their best shot today and made too many unforced errors. But still good job for reaching this huge final. Congrats Nathalie and Andy. Bad luck Margalita and Lado.

Again, the best team claimed the title! Nothing to say, they beat the hottest team and the new Indian Wells champion Elena and Nicole, that means they are still the best team in the tour. Good serve-and-volley from Margalita and good step from Dominika made them be the number one team all the time. Elena and Nicole are just unlucky, they had leads in the supertiebreak and they wasted it! Elena serve not as well as yesterday's semifinal match. Nicole made too many unforced errors.
