Preview:

(1)Elena Dementieva vs. Vilmarie Castellvi: Elena has proved she is a consistent and steady force on the tour and in just 6 weeks has racked up more than 2,000 points (excluding w.o in Week 1 Gold Coast). Vilmarie has not shown alot of growth as of yet, but if she sends new points, she could produce some hard tennis.

Anna Chakvetdaze vs. Flavia Pennetta: Lately Anna has been losing alot of matches lately, but new poitns could bring soem needed confidence. Flavia on teh other hand has won nearly 10 matches in her last 3 events with her points, but its time to send new ones in. If this match is by form, Flavia should win.

Margalita Chaknashvili vs. Alona Bondarenko: Margalita was struggling with confidence entering Doha but made the QF, so we know she can make a good run when her game is on. Alona has the game but doesn't produce it on the court, and loses close matches. Expect this to be a close one.

(8)Brie Whitehead vs. Michaella Krajicek: Expect this to be the highlight of the first round. These two just met in the Doha SF, and Michaella barely won, sham that this is Brie's first time as a seed and she could lose, but to avoid the same result, they should send new points. Michaella had a great run making the finals in Doha before lsoing in three tiebreaks in that match she could have won. Expect this to be an even closer match.

(5)Venus Williams vs. Nikola Hofmanova: We haven't seen much from Nikola so I cannot report on her, but Venus has had quite a run recently, but had a lapse lately in the Mid East, can she turn it back around in her home country?

Sania Mirza vs. Shuai Peng: Since her run in Antwerp, we haven't seen alot of Sania, but with 10 extra points this week, we could see alot. Shuai recently made the QF of the super Tier II event in Dubai, but other than that, hasn't produced alot. Expect Sania to win.

Silvia Farina-Elia vs. (Q)Anna Kournikova: This is Anna's debut event. She already Qualified by beating Marion Bartoli, but can she get another win over SFE??

(4)Tathiana Garbin vs. Vera Zvonareva: Tathiana has now re-entered the top 5! She takes on Zvoanreva, who is still returning to the tour after a short retirement. Tathiana should win this one pretty easily on her form, but you never know what you will get from Ms.Garbin!

(3)Maria Kirilenko vs. Jie Zheng: Jie took an upset over Sania Mirza in Qatar last week, so we know she can produce some tennis. Maria on the other hand has taken a hit with 1st round exits from Dubai and Doha, so her confidence is hit while she plays with her tactics. I think Maria will get her groove back in this match.

Dominika Cibulkova vs. Mary Pierce: Mary has potential but has not shown it yet, but hopefully we will see it soon. Dominika continues to send points every week and has transferred her commitment into results making a QF in Doha last week before a loss to S.Williams. Hopefully we will see more from Dominika in the later rounds.

Franchesca Schiavone vs. Jelena Dokic: We haevnt seen alot of Jelena, so she is in the same case as Nikola. Franny pushed Elena D to the limit in her opening match in Doha last week so she is finally producing her potential, expect her to win this match.

(6)Jennifer Capriati vs. Jelena Jankovic: Both have taken a hit of confidence and both have losing streaks coming into this match, both made the QF in Antwerp, and their 2r match was their last victory, so it will be interesting who will win this match.

(7)Nicole Vaidisova vs. (JE) Yuliana Fedak: Yuliana will be leaving the Junior Tour for the Pro Tour this week and makes her debut agaisnt 7th-seeded Nicole Vaidisova who has shown some incosntiency lately, but should win this match, and could go far.

Nathalie Dechy vs. (JE)Urszula Radwanska: The same case for Urszula along with Yuliana. She makes her pro debut here in Indian Wells, but could produce a good win over Nathalie Dechy if she tries really hard. Nathalie has gotten a couple wins, but has not shown alot of promise.

Elena Baltacha vs. Na Li: Elena has produced a couple wins, includong a win over no.2 Serena Williams in Antwerp, but other than that has not shown alot. Na continues to fight for her spot on this tour, and got a great win over J-Cap last week in Doha, but can she produce more wins this week?

(2)Serena Williams vs. Martina Hingis: Serena won her first title last week in Doha in a thrilling final over Michaella Krajicek, but faces Martina Hingis, who won her first match last week, expect Martina to push Serena, but I do not expect an upset just yet. Serena is also the player of the week, so she gets to use 10 extra points this week.

Cheap Seats with Coach Spice
Featuring: A Special Interview With Sania Mirza

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/IndianWells.jpg

We're here in beatiful Indian Wells, California for the $2.1 million dollar teir 1 tournament, the Pacific Life Open. Already the American women on tour have made themselves front runners for the title being that they are all seeded.

The pack of countrywomen are lead by top ranked American, second-seeded Serena Williams who is just coming off her first title victory in Doha. Atwerp champion and sister to Serena, Venus Williams is the fifth-seeded player. With Jennifer Capriati at number six and Brie Whitehead rounding down as the eight-seed.

Ultimitely there can only be one champion, so which will it be? We're going to be sitting down with one of the dark horses for the title, Sania Mirza.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/articlewhore.jpg

CS: Welcome Sania!

SM: Thank you. It's great to be here.

CS: So how has your stay in America been so far?

SM: It's been great. There's so much to do here and California is a really beautiful place. Lots of sun, shopping, activities going and such. It's fun to be in a place that's so alive.

CS: Now, in the past couple of weeks a lot of things have hit you at once such as: making the finals of Antwerp then loosing in back to back first rounds, having religous and government leaders in the Middle East call for your retirement, and you got a multi-million dollar contract with Sprite. How are you handling all this at once?

SM: To be honest, it's been really chaotic over the past couple of weeks. I'm totally over the contraversy that happened in Dubai and Doha. I've said what I needed to say and I feel there's no reason to keep bringing it up. I'm really excited about my sprite ad. I hope it has a good debut here in California.

CS: Your first round match is against another Chinese player, Shaui Peng. How do you feel about this meeting?

SM: Well in light of recent events, I think the match can go either way. I've been practicing a lot on my serve and my net game. I've noticed her serve doesn't have much of anything on it so I plan to attack it as much as I can.

CS: How do you feel about the possible round two match against Venus Williams?

SM: I'm really excited to play against her. Antwerp was over three weeks ago, so if she thinks that I'm going to make the same mistakes that I did in the finals, she's one hamburger short of a happy meal.

CS: Are you ready?

SM: For your jelly?

CS: What?

SM: Nevermind.

CS: That's all the time we have for today, Sania is was great seeing you and good luck out there!

SM: Thank you, and everyone be sure to watch for my Sprite ad!

CS: Hey hey hey! No shameless self-promotion on my show! Only I get to do that... Watch my show!!!!

First Round

(1)Elena Dementieva vs. Vilmarie Castellvi

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/516/r2503553713.jpg

(1)Elena Dementieva def. Vilmarie Castellvi 6-2,1-6,7-5

On Paper Elena should have won easily, but Vilmarie brought her game on and took Elena to the distance before running out of steam. Elena, as number one by a good margin, is feeling high on confidence right now and didn't change too much in her plan today.

Flavia Pennetta vs. Anna Chakvetdaze

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/634/2006Estoril.jpg

Flavia Pennetta def. Anna Chakvetdaze 6-3,1-6,6-4

Anna gace Flavia alot of trouble today, and couldn't convert set points at 5-0 but in teh end, Flavia came in with a new strategy, eager to test it and won with it, but can she test it against the world number one?

Margalita Chaknashvili vs. Alona Bondarenko

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/523/3978.jpg

Alona Bondarenko def. Margalita Chaknashvili 6-3,6-4

Alona played a solid match today, she is getting into a consistent form, but can she go into the latter rounds? Margalita, what hurt you was you didn't send points.

Michaella Krajicek vs. (8)Brie Whitehead

Michaella Krajicek def. (8)Brie Whitehead 7-5,7-6(0)

A re-match of the Doha SF, and the same time Michaella wins the match. Both sent new points, which was a good thing, but this was a close match and could have gone either way, but Michaella is on a roll..

(5)Venus Williams vs. Nikola Hofmanova

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/500/fullj_getty-76184534cc073_u_s_open_day_.jpg

Nikola Hofmanova def. (5)Venus Williams 6-3,6-4

Venus gets handed her worst loss of her career(I think) and this is Nikola's first career win, and what a win it was, this is probably one of the biggest upsets of the tour lately, and anyone in Venus' quarter has the potential to go far.

Kevin.

Sania Mirza vs. Shuai Peng

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3247/95751d99-c69c-42e6-a386-acd5f1f16628.jpg

Sania Mirza def. Shuai Peng 6-1,1-6,7-5

Up and down match for both palyers, in teh end, Sania won, and she is feeling pretty confident, and with Venus out she has a good chance of making another final. Shuai  tough luck, didn't really change points though.

Vera Zvonareva def. (4)Tathiana Garbin 0-6,6-3,6-3

Vera takes out one of the hottest players right now, thsi quarter is serisouly available and with both seeds out any one of them can make the semifinals or possibly win the title. Vera played a great match, but Tathiana failed to send points and in the end lost. Vera's confidence is slowly rising, and it will be something nice to see if she can go far.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/653/21239271918zheng.jpg

Jie Zheng def. (3)Maria Kirilenko 3-6,7-5,6-4

Maria's opening round woes continue as she is shocked by Zheng, who has a good set of points, and grabbed a solid victory the 3rd,4th,5th,and 8th seeds are upset so far, and Jie has the possibility of making the semifinals with this win. She didn't change points, but we are hoping for a good run. Maria,, you are working hard, and keep trying!

Dominika Cibulkova vs. Mary Pierce

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/577/8652559pierce.jpg

Mary Pierce def. Dominika Cibulkova 7-6(3),1-6,6-1

Mary grabs a rare victory over a dominant Dominika. Dominika is always changing her plan, but did not work good today. Mary goes on and faces Jie Zheng for a spot in the Quarterfinals!

Jelena Dokic vs. Franchesca Schiavone

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/529/Fran24.jpg

Franchesca Schiavone def. Jelena Dokic 6-3,2-6,7-5

Nice match from both players. Jelena spreads her game very well, but so does Franchesca and that is why she was the better player, she had more in the end, and she contuinues with her winning ways.

(6)Jennifer Capriati vs. Jelena Jankovic

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/504/21237449314capriati.jpg

(6)Jennifer Capriati def. Jelena Jankovic 6-2,7-6(4)

Both came in here losing pretty badly, plus losing consecutive matches, so it was bound to happen that one of them win and today it was Jennifer. Jelena is a tough player, but is turning a little inconsistent with her results and that is intimidating her, Jennifer is now the second of six seeds played to advance to the second round.

Elena Baltacha def. Na Li 6-3,2-6,7-5

Elena grabs her first win since her upset in Antwerp over Serena Williams, and could face her in the second round. Na played a well match, but she didn't send points which hurt her. Elena moves on. Na

Martina Hingis vs. (2)Serena Williams

(2)Serena Williams def. Martina Hingis 1-6,6-1,7-5

Martina blew Serena off the court in the first set but didn't have anything to back up on it in the end. Less is more sometimes. Serena played well enough to get by today, but can she make another title run like she did last week in Doha?

I hoguht Serna would do extra good this week with 10 extra points, but doesn't avoid a loss to Baltacha. Elena played a wonderful match and has the same number of points jsut separted differently as Nicole Vaidisova, who lost earlier today, what Elena did that Nicole was that she re-arranged her numbers differently into a great plan.. Michaella Krajicek def. Alona Bondarenko 3-6,6-3,6-4

Michaella follows up a routine victory with a win over Alona today, she used her might to pull through this one. I was quite shcoked at how close the scoreline was, I thought Michaella could pull it off in straights, but with Alona, she has a game plan of her own, she sets her sight n one plan, ans she is the only player to use it, too bad it hasn't transpired into results. Good match by both.

Interview With Vera Zvonareva

Q:Hi, we are here with russian Vera Zvonareva, who just won her second round match to reach the quarter finals, Vera, it was a tough match, what are your thoughts on how you played?

VZ: first of all I would like to say congrats to Anna for playing such a great match, I think she will be a great player one day. In the first set Anna was playing extreemly well and I was playing like crap, in the second set I played a bit better, but I was lucky to pull that set out, and in the third I played better still and won it, but I was not at my best today, I'm gonna have to step it up against Nikola.

Q:How do you feel about having to play against your doubles partner?

VZ:Um, I don't know,I hope I win, but if I lose I will be cheering for her to win:)

Q:Only 1 seed is left in the draw, what do you think about all the upsets?

VZ:I think it's better for me ;) with all those seeds out it's a great oppertunity for the lower ranked girls, like myself,to get alot of points, and possibly win the title

Q:Thank you Vera, we will talk to Vera again after her quarter final match.

This was a VERY CLOSE MATCH, i looked on the record for last week's points and thank goodness Elena sent new points. Vera played an outstanding match, but a simple, lazy gameplan fit right into Elena's hands today and she is into yet again, another final.

Elena playe da fnatsitc match but let a huge lead in the third set cost her this match as Urszula quickly climbed back. Congrats to our Indian Wells Champion Urszula Radwanska!

Sania's Woes Continue

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/sad.jpg

After a breakthrough match against China's Shaui Peng, India's Sania Mirza found herself gaining some momentum for her next match in round two. Sadly, that was not the case when she lost in straight sets to Nikola Hofmanova. Mirza who has had an exhausting couple of weeks said that Nikola kept her on her feet the whole time and simply made her too tired on the court.

"I had absolutely no energy left in the second set. I was suprised I even won a couple of games. It sucks to loose when that quarter was really opened up with Venus being outsed in round one."

With another early round exit, Mirza is back to the board to try to figure out a better strategy to use in Miami at the Sony Ericsson Open. One that will help her win the maiden title that she's been dreaming about for a long time.

"I wan't to win a title more than anything. I feel like I'm getting closer despite all the losses I've been having. Within the next couples weeks it will happen, I just know it."

Vera Zvonareva

Hi it's me,Vera:) I've had a great week here in Indian Wells,I reached the semi-finals,went shopping, and participated in a photo shoot:)
I played pretty well the whole week and I tried my hardest against Elena, but in the end she played the tiebreak a little better than I did. I had some good wins over Tatiana,Anna, and Nikola.BTW Nikola is my doubles partner and we are in the quarters, our match is tomorrow:) I went shopping a few times and bought too much clothes they do not fit in my suitcase, so I have some of my bras in my purse! Doing the photo shoot was pretty fun I got to wear this pretty outfit:) Well I gotta go practice with Nikola.Bye.

Skanky Scandal!

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/zvonareva.jpg

Racy photos of Russian Vera Zvonareva have recently much to the disliking of some audience members and Pro Tour players. The photos of the Russian were supposedly done at a photo shoot. Was it for Playboy? Hustler? Russians Gone Wild? Nobody knows, but what we do know is the that image had to be censored due to the number of children that were present at the tournamnet.

There was out cry from many parents such as Indian Wells resident, fourty-seven year old, Debra Jenkins. "I was shocked when I saw the pictures. When I saw them I told my four children to cover their eyes! I asked my husband, Harry to help me but he was too busy looking at the filth! I'm glad the pictures we're censored, I think they should've been taken down."

Some players in the lockerroom were shown the pictures and then asked about their thoughts on the photographs. Here's what they had to say about the matter.

"Oh god! Ew! I think I'm gonna loose my lunch!" Sania Mirza exclaimed.

Whatever the fate of these pictures may be, as long as they're are censored, I think the world will be a better place.

The Reply :P

Hi it's Vera again:) I heard there's been some crap posted online about me,first of all I'd like to say I have not,nor will I,ever posed for playboy or any such magazine.Secondly I'd like to say that there was nothing to censor in my picture. It looks like we've got our very own gossip girl and I know who it is:Sania Mirza, she's always saying crap about people usually people who are playing well(and have as many articles as her) and it's not very nice, I mean it's people like her that give islam a bad name. I wish Sania the best in her career and in her personal life, and if she works on her people skills maybe we could play doubles together.

A SUPER week, no seed in the first time!!! And a very impressive run for Nikola and Vera, I am looking forward to your future although you lost to Elena/Nicole! You advance to a super tier I event in your debut. Elena/Nicole, good win. Your super groundstrokes made the debut team nothing to do! And Elena hits less doubles faults and Nicole hits more aces, what a good match for you! Congrats for your first title. Elena nearly can get the titles in both singles and doubles! Bad luck, Nikola/Vera., but good run to advance to the final in your debut!!!

Good job for beauty/handsome man team. They use their powerful forehand and tricky serve to make Tathiana and Roger nothing to do. And Tathiana and Roger hit too many unforced errors today. And serve not so well. And Maria/Paul-Henri use this good chance and push them in a good level and win the second title in Pro Tour Mixed Doubles. Congrats. Bad luck, Tathiana/Roger.
