Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko started her US Open campaign of with a bang today as she dispatched of Frenchwomen and number 12 seed Amelie Mauresmo 6-4 6-2 in 1hr 14mins on Louis Armstrong Stadium. Alona started nervously, trailing 3-1 in the first set but she managed to pull through with some good tactical play to take the first set in 40mins. Then in the second she went 2-0 down but raced through in the end winning the next six games to complete the victory.

"Im very happy with the way I played today, I was strong and aggresive and my nerves didnt show as I was determind not to lose the first round like Vancouver. I feel like I did back in Dubai and hopefully thats a good sign. Maybe I can go all the way, but you never know. It will be very tough but Im prepared. Next I face the world number 3 Justine Henin. She is strong and always turns up for Slams but I know If I can take a set I have a chance. It will be intresting but Im feeling confident. I want this to be my real breakthrough"

Alona will also play in Doubles with new partner Sorana Cirstea of Romania who won her match today. Alonas next match, vs. Henin, will be played tommorow.

First events of the year where terrible bad, after a disappointing lose at the Australian Open Maria broke with former coach LDF. Which is now training Lindsay Davenport, which is one of the big favourites for the title her in the Big Apple.

The first event with new coach Tennis2006 was in Argentina, Buenos Aires, Masha lost in the second round. Which was almost the whole clay season the round where she lost.

The grass season was also with ups and downs. Wimbledon was her best event of the season so far, there she was unstoppable she said after the second round. New York, New York, USA--Serena Williams vanquished a tough opponent in the afternoon on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Nicole Vaidisova, the 13th seed and promising Czech talent, won the first set handily in thirty minutes 6/2, but as the match wore on, the experience of Serena Williams proved to be worthy as she took out the young Czech 6/4 in 45 minutes, and 7/5, saving match points to do so in one hour and 12 minutes in the third set alone.

"I wasn't playing too well the first set, and Nicole knows how to take advantage, obviously. She's not thirteen in the world for nothing. I felt that, if I could just focus on winning chains of points, that I would eventually pull through this tough opponent," Serena said to the press after the match.

The match stats proved to be very useful after the match. Serena created 18 chances to break the young Czech woman, but couldn't pull of a majority, winning 9 (50%). Her first serve percentage was also off today, at a low 53%. Winners, almost sixty for Vaidisova and Williams, were nearly even (29 for Vaidisova compared to 30 for Serena), as were the unforced error count (31 for Vaidisova, and 33 for Serena).

"I really feel that my serve needs improvement. I can't win another round in this tournament playing the way I did, and I will definitely work harder in the next round. I'm playing the top player in Alicia Molik. She's a great competitor, and is good to have for the sport. I hope I can pull off another upset, but the honor of competing against someone of that caliber will also help me with my game."

WFTC Tour Director cancelled second day of US Open due to terrible weather conditions. The storm is gonna strike New York and it's too dangerous for players to compete in these conditions.

"It really sucks as it's second delay this week. If USO organizers won't do something to be in schedule, there won't be fourth GS next season." said Yuran.

New York,USA. Czech youngster Nicole Vaidisova-Nedorezanyuk tells everyone goodbye at her last match on the WFTC Tour. She lost to Serena Williams in 3 sets after having a match point. Serena played the important points better and prove to be the dominant force in the match. Nicole's focus will now be on her studies as she is accepted in an university to study Bacelor in Pharmacy (HONS). She will balance between being a wife and a university student as well as she can. As she walked to the net to shake Serena's hand, tears started to drop from her eyes and when at the net Serena said " Its not over girl, lives more than just tennis.". Nicole said thank you and left the court to be with her husband. Nicole officially retires from WFTC Tour with immediate effect and has no plans to comeback watsoever for the moment.

Q: Serena, how did it feel to know that you sent Nicole into retirement?

Serena Williams: Nicole has been a great presence on this tour, but she's also got to have a life outside of tennis as well. I told Nicole when we shook hands "Girl, it's not over. Life is more than just tennis." And it's true. She's getting her degree, she's got a nice family, and a lucrative tennis career to fall back upon. She'll do great.

Q: In the first set, do you think your low serve percentage and high unforced error count allowed her to walk all over you?

Serena Williams: Definitely. I mean, Nicole's gotten that ranking because she knows how to take advantage of opportunity.

Q: Up next, you've got world number one Alicia Molik on Arthur Ashe Stadium again. What will you have to do to beat her?
