New York, USA -- Lindsay Davenport moved into the quarter-finals of a fourth successive hard court event yesterday by defeating ninth seed and good friend Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 7-5. Many critics have labelled it the best match of the tournament thus far, despite lacking a third set, as both women dazzled the crowd with flashy winners and powerful hitting. However, Davenport's sky-high confidence helped her over the finish line.

'Svetlana is extremely talented, so I knew that I had to be on the top of my game,' said the American. 'I'm still playing very well and I believe that I can go all the way.'

When asked to comment on her preparation for the event, Davenport said: 'I think that my loss last week was kind of a blessing in disguise; I was getting a little tired, and it meant that I had a few extra days to bring my energy levels back up and mentally get ready for a Slam. It would've been nice to make a clean sweep of the warm-up events, but I'm not losing sleep or anything over it.'

Davenport faces Elena Dementieva in the quarter-finals, who fought out a 6-7 7-6 8-6 win over Gisela Dulko. If Lindsay wins, it will be her first Grand Slam semi-final. 'Oh gosh, what a horrible stat (laughs). Well, it'll undoubtedly be tough, but I'm in the form of my life.'
