Originally, I thought I would give Sania POTW for her great wins, but she got Article Whore of the Week anyways. Venus didn;t play a match until the Quarterfinals, but when she played, she played magnificent tennis, with a great gameplan, she gets 10 extra points to use this week!

Preview:

Top seed Elena Dementieva has a first round bye.

Flavia Pennetta takes on Dominika Cibulkova. These two faced off in the Antwerp QF, which Flavia won in a third set tiebreaker. It was a great match and both had a breakthrough in that tournament. I praise DOminika for her commitment and sends in new points every week. She must do that to beat Flavia.

Silvia Farina-Elia takes on Michaella Kraijeck. Silvia has made a good presence on the tour, so has Michaella, but I am not sure who will win this match. If Michaella played like she did agianst Kirilenko last week, she will win.

8th-seeded Jelena Jankovic takes on Na Li. Na is getting back to her winning form by pushing Maria Kirilenko the limit in Antwerp. Jelena won Gold Coast and is a former number one, if she can push herself to the limit like she did earlier thsi season, she can be unbeatable.

5th-seeded Maria Sharapova has a first round Bye, but better send points or she is retired.

Martina Hingis takes on Shuai Peng. This is Martina's debut. Shuai lost in striaghts to Nicole Vaidisova, so she has to prove alot as she can go a long way if she can beat Hingis and if Maria S doesn't send in new points.

Brie Whitehead takes on Anna Chakvetdaze. Brie has shown great improvement over the past weeks. Anna has shown alot of talent and potential in the psat few weeks. This will be a toss up and could go the distance.

4th-seeded Jennifer Capriati has a bye.

3rd-seeded Maria Kirilenko has a bye.

Mary Pierce takes on Alona Bondarenko. Alona has had the difficult task of getting really bad draws, and loses close matches, unfortunately this is the case again, but she has the potential. Mary made the semifinals last week, and she is on a roll. I think if Mary plays like she did last week she can win this match.

Vilmarie Castellvi takes on a returning Vera Zvonareva. Vera was out on injury and fell off the rankings, but didn;t show alot besides a 2r result at the Australian Open. Vilmarie made her debut in Antwerp last week, but lost a tough match to Flavia Pennetta. This will be a toss up.

6th-seeded Venus Williams takes on Elena Baltacha. This will be an amazing match-up as Elena took out world number 2 Serena Williams in Antwerp in ana amzing match and can show her potential. Venus won Anterp last week in an upset-plagued field, I htink her game plan is one of the best on tour. Venus should watch out cause this can be a great upset in the making.

7th-seeded Nicole Vaidisova takes on a hot Sania Mirza. Sania upset Elena Dementieva and Nicole en route to the Antwerp final and lost a match where she held match point. This will be anotehr upset in the making.

Jie Zheng takes on Tathiana Garbin. Jie is making her debut. Tathiana is a former number 2 and has went down hill since, but is trying to make a comeback since Antwerp where she lost to J. Capriati in a tight three- set match. This could be anyone's match.

Margalita Chaknashvili takes on Francesca Schiavone. Margalita is an up and down player, making the QF of the Aussie, but who knows what she can pull. Frnacesca made her debut last week, and could produce some wins in the future. I think Margalita would win in this match up.

2nd-seeded Serena Williams has a bye, but must send new points this week or next week, or she will face the possibility of retirement.

After a tough first set, it was inconsistency from then on. Both sendt new points, which is a plus. SFE's third set hurt her badly, but Michaella scouted well and that is why she won.

:worship::worship: Great match by both players. Even after upsetting Serena in Antwerp, giving her Serena's first 1st round loss ever! Venus had a great week in Antwerp winning her first title and her 10 extra points helped her today, if she didn't place those points where they went she would have lost in straight sets :tape: Elena is one of the darkest horses, if not the darkest horse in Pro Tour, so you have to scout her if you play her. Great match.
