Venus Williams currently sits in the no. 8 spot in the ATC rankings. This is also the last spot for the Year Ending Championships. As she struggles to hold on to that spot on a surface that is not kind to her, she also looks forward to the indoor season ATC.

"Well I'm very much looking forward to the indoor season. Obviously I have built my game around the beginning and the end of the season here in ATC so I hope that can work to my advantage. The race is very close in my section and I know the other ladies will want to fight for it as much as I do, but I hope my advantage over most will pay off during the indoor season."

Last week, was a great week With a strong Henin/Molik determined to win the tournament with one ace, Defeating therer old rivals Harkleroad/Chakvetadze. While the no.1 seed were taken out in fine form by the Stosur/Golovin Combination. Will Henin/Molik be able to keep there no.2 position. Mashona Washington and world no. 8 Venus Williams are playing in thier first ever doubles event here at the Pilot Pen. Both seem very excited and enthusiastic about playing at the event and with each other. This is what Venus Williams had to say about thier partnership.

"I'm really excited to be playing doubles with Mashona. I think we are a good match because of the differences in our games. They seem to work well together, so I think we are ready to see how well our strategies work against the best doubles teams in the world."

Today Venus Williams and Mashona Washington took to center court in their first doubles match together and delivered a 3 set thriller. Both struggled on serve in the first set, but later regrouped to pull out an exciting win against the talented pair of Dementieva and Bartoli.

"Very pleased with this doubles win today. I wish I could say that it gives me more confidence for my singles play, but on this surface, I'm not getting my hopes up at all. I just hope that Mashona and I can make a push deep into this draw in order to gain some points."
