young_gunner913 Sep 11th, 2007, 04:25 AM Kirilenko Gets A Second Chance
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/shosho.jpg
The official main draw of the Roger's Cup has been released and Russian Maria Kirilenko will get a round one rematch against American Mashona Washington whom knocked her out in a triple setter in the second round at the Cincinnati Open. Washington won the match; 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
"I'm sure she's going to be looking for revenge, I'm not going to let her have it though."
Washington started her career on the ATC tour with quite a ruckus by knocking out the world's number two ranked player, Severine Bremond, in a round one match then taking out the fiesty Russian, Kirilenko, en route to her first career quarterfinal where she lost to eventual champion, Michaella Krajicek in three sets.
"I'm glad that I lost to the eventual champ. I've learned a lot from playing against her and I think I'm more of a threat now then I was last week."
If Washington succeeds in downing Kirilenko for a second straight time, she could set up a possible with the world's number eight ranked player, fellow American, Venus Williams. Williams who had a early round exit at the Cincinnati has been in Toronto "tinkering" with her service game.
"I'm ready to play here in Canada and really excited about playing in this Tier I event. I'm praying for a good start this year and hope it will be enough to gain some points." Williams said in a short interview.
It would be a dream come true for the American rookie, Washington, to play a woman that she has been her tennis idol for the past couple of years.
"I would be honored to play Venus, but just cause she's my idol doesn't mean I'm going to let her win. But that's looking too far into the future, right now I want to focus on Kirilenko."
Washington got up to leave the interview and then stopped, grinned, and said into the microphone.
"Last week I played a sloppy match and she took advantage of that, but now I've got a couple aces up my sleeve so we'll see how she does this week."

MH0861 Sep 11th, 2007, 11:35 PM Kirilenko sends Mashona Packin'
http://www.globalgiants.com/archives/media/AdidasKrilenko.jpg
Unseeded and really, really, really, truly dangerous Maria Kirilenko achieved what no one thought she could: She won a match in straight sets.
Kirilenko, known for her epic third set showdowns against both ATC superstars and scrubs alike, managed to pull out a tight 6-4 7-6 victory over American Mashona Washington, who defeated Kirilenko last week in one of the aforementioned 3 set meltdowns.
"As soon as I had match points in the tiebreak, I thought: Something doesn't feel right here. This just isn't me... perhaps I should just tank this set and bring it to a third set like old times", Kirilenko admitted post match.
"But with me, who knows what would happen - lord knows I'd lose 7-5 after being up 5-0 in the third. I prefer to make Toronto trainwreck free, really"
So what made the difference today?
"Well, it seemed like Mashona was already penciling herself in for a second round clash with Venus, so she probably got a little ahead of herself and thought I would just roll over and give it to her. Wrong!"
"Mashona is a good player, but I was really dissapointed last week - I had a really bad case of the sniffles, and my coach wanted me to pull out but I fought to the end for my legions of fans. She also forced me to look at my own game and made me realize changes were needed. I'm confident again. But Mashona is a good up and comer, and I think she'll do well in the future'.
As for the upcoming match with Venus, Kirilenko said "Well I have beaten her before, but obviously as a top 10 player she'll be very difficult to contend with, even with no aces. You can expect a tough, long fight!"
Droolv. Sep 11th, 2007, 11:39 PM :woohoo: Tati :D Good win!! :yeah:

LDF Sep 12th, 2007, 09:36 PM Davenport hospitalized after 'accident'
http://images.forbes.com/media/lifestyle/2006/06/01/9_0601feat.jpg
Toronto, CAN -- Tennis star Lindsay Davenport was taken into hospital on Tuesday night after being involved in a horrific incident at Paramount Canada's Waterland. After suffering yet another poor defeat, Davenport had decided to relax by visiting the theme park. However, whilst on one of the rides with her husband Jon, the raft carrying the pair suddenly burst, leaving them trapped near one of the machine-driven 'whirlpools'. Davenport was sucked into it and suffered numerous injuries to her legs.
Her husband was not seriously injured, and issued the following statement: 'Thankfully, Lindsay did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, and did not break any bones. However, she is understandably very shaken.'
Police investigating the case have said that they believe the raft had been 'tampered with'. On the 30-minute ride, Wild Water Way, rafts run every hour and undergo maintenance once every week. This maintenance happened to be just before Davenport's excursion.
It is unlikely the American will return until the US Open.

MH0861 Sep 13th, 2007, 01:22 AM Lightning strikes twice; Kirilenko sails into the Quarterfinals
http://www.globalgiants.com/archives/media/AdidasKrilenko.jpg
In what can only be described as a miracle, unseeded Maria Kirilenko has advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup in Toronto with a STRAIGHT SET 6-4 7-6 victory over 8th seeded Venus Ebony Starr Williams.
"It's almost like I'm not myself this week", said Kirilenko. "Is this what it feels like to not dilly dally on the court and take care of business? I kind of like it."
The loss for Williams sparked debate amongst ATC experts about the future of America's #1 ranked player. Mary Carillo, always a Williams supporter, had harsh words: "This kid is finished. What did she do to her serve? That forehand is a mess. And don't even get me started on her movement recently"
Maria offered to help Williams re-tool her game. "Well, I see that Mashona and Venus are like BFFs now and teaming up for doubles. I'd be willing to offer a seminar for them both called "Wearing the right outfit on court: it's half the battle". Who needs winners or any technique on your forehand when you are wearing Stella McCartney? :hearts:" I'd double fault 3 times just thinking about wearing that outfit Vee had on today. I heard Lindsay threw herself off a ride at an amusement park today when I texted her a pic of Vee on court! I'll even give them a discount to soften the blow that they must be feeling after I defeated both of them comprehensively."
Up next for Maria is the dangerous Maria Elena Camerin, who defeated former #1 Severine Bremond in 3 sets today. "I'm expecting a battle, for sure... I will be lucky to get through this match, but I will try my best. Atleast the boys in the crowd will be cheering me on! :D "

Golovin/Stosur d. (1) Krajicek/Peer 6-3 4-6 6-1
What a great match, Golovin/Stosur have very strong points, and the no.1 seeds couldnt really do anything. THey didnt have bad points, they just had to vertse a team that had some very good points. Good Luck in the rest of the tournament Golovin/Stosur

Great match from the former world no.1's They were just to strong for the Russian Team. There points are very solid. Bad Luck FOr Sharapova/Myskina have 3 set points in each set

They were just to strong for Tammy and LDL, they had alot of variation with thier points, and only have 2 aces they know how to use them well. Good Match from them, Trying to get back to being seeded

Great match, But the number 2 seeds are to strong on every surface, they prove even though they have not many aces they can still impact the game. I wish them luck. Kirilenko/Paszek you had bad luck with a few cointosses
Medina Sep 14th, 2007, 12:27 PM Medina predictions:
Golovin/Stosur vs (4) Henin/Molik
I think that they both have such great points, but i think Henin/Molik can pull it off, My picks: Henin/Molik in 3 sets
Bremond/Mauresmo vs (2) Harkleroad/Chakvetadze
This is a hard one to pick, Bremond/Mauresmo did a good job to eliminate of the 3rd seed, but can they take out the second one. My picks: Bremond/Mauresmo in 2 sets
P.s I picked these from whom i think would win, i didnt calculate the points

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3189/Mashona.jpg http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/USO187082802_1024x768.jpg
America has some hope in the doubles arena thanks to Mashona Washington and Venus Williams. It was Washington who intiated the partnering for the final grand slam of the year, and the world no. 8 promptly agreed.
"Yeah, Mashona gave me a call and left a message on my voice mail. Unfortunaltey I didn't get the message until a couple of days later. I was just hoping she still wanted to play and didn't think that I was just blowing her off or something. It is defenitly a priviledge to play with such a talented player and our home country's Grand Slam."
