Brandi out on the practice courts
This week in Bangkok, the only thing more surprising than Uzbekistan's early exit, is Kristina Brandi and Puerto Rico's second consecutive Semifinal appearance. Prior to last week's maiden semifinal in Acapulco (defeating 4th seed BEL's Kim Clijsters en route), Puerto Rico had yet to win a main draw match the entire season. Although their path to the semis seemed easily paved (they were given two straight walkovers), Kristina sees it a bit differently. "I'm sad. I came to play my game and it's a shame that I have yet to do so." Kristina is now faced with the daunting task of defeating Michaela Krajicek of the Netherlands, who is responsible for the early dismissal of top seed Uzbekistan's Iroda Tulyaganova. Michaela has yet to drop a set in the entire tournament.
Although the task ahead of her and the Puerto Rican team seems like too much to handle, Brandi still has support on her mind. "With my team behind me, supporting me and cheering me on, I still win in the end. Being a part of the WTT truly is an amazing experience. It means that there's someone right there to pick you up when you're down. It also means that I'm 100% willing to leave it all out there on the court for them and that's just what I'll be doing against Michaela tomorrow."
We wish her and the Puerto Rican team the best of luck.

BWLH Sep 15th, 2007, 04:59 PM China Wins First Title in Bangkok
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3248/4e18.jpg
Na Li from China made her country proud by winning their first title in WTT in the tier III hardcourt tournament held at Bangkok,Thailand after defeating qualifier Michaella Krajicek from the Netherlands 0-6,7-5,6-2 in the final.
China was the second seed coming into the match against the qualifier but it was not an easy match for the second seed as Michaella Krajicek is pretty strong on this surface and has upset first seed Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan 7-6(0),6-4 in the quarterfinal and eliminated another qualifier Kristina Brandi representing Puerto Rico 6-0,6-4 in their semifinal match-up.China also defeated Yuliyana Fedak of Ukraine 6-4,3-6,6-3 in the quarterfinal and battled past Australia's Samantha Stosur 3-6,6-3,7-5 in the semifinal.
The qualifier started the final match very strongly where she won the first nine games before the Chinese claimed their first game of the match. From then on,Li fought hard to be back on track and levelled the second set at 4 all.Although China has 4 set points when Li was serving for the set at 5-4 but the Dutchwoman played some unbelievable shots to save all set points and eventually won the break point. However, the second seed broke back immediately and claimed the second set 7-5 on her fifth set point. This went to a deecisive set where China was leading 4-2.It was nerve-wracking when Li was serving at the seventh game where it went for about 5 deuces and 2 break points before finally claiming the game 5-2 and eventually the match after one hour and fifty two minutes play on court when Krajicek hit a forhand croosscourt wide on China's second championship point.
"Wow!It was a very nail-biting match for me.I was basically clueless at the beginning of the match as she(Krajicek) was hiting the ball so well.I couldn't get any chances to play back the shots. But I started to fugure out how she played in going into the second set so I just play everything I could in order to get some momentum and forcing her to make some errors. It was actually a good plan it seemed. And thank god I eventually won that second set.She looked pretty tired then so I just took the advantage and hit all the balls as clean as possible and cut down some unforced errors. And then I won!!!"said China's Na Li about her final match.
"It was a great week for China as we had been in the semifinals for the last two weeks. Our team hoped for a breakthrough this week as we chose to play on hardcourt which is my best surface. And our effort paid off.I was very ecstatic when I knew I have helped China to get our first title on the tour and this is a very big step for us."said the Chinese representative about their performance on tour.Their lone appearance in the final before this was in Gold Coast,Australia.
There was another final match-up in Antwerp,Belgium where Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo helped France to win their second title in WTT after beating Serbian's Jelena Jankovic in the final.
There will be two events held on Week 8:Tier II hardcourt event in Dubai,UAE and Tier III grasscourt event in 's-Hertogenbosch.However,China hasn't confirmed their participation in either tournaments."We'd love to play on grass court but it depends which countries are going to play. We'd still have a decent chance to win both events if strong competitors are not present in them."
