Welcome to Antwerp,Belguim!!! Last week we saw the Australian Open champion, Elena Dementieva claim her second title in a row at the first Tier I of the year in Tokyo. Can she pull it off again or will surprises in Tokyo like Jennifer Capriati and Brie Whitehead stun themselves to a title? We Will See..

Player of the Week

Jennifer Capriati
Jennifer made the finals of Tokyo in a very upset field draw, full of withdrawals and walkovers before losing a great match to Elena Dementieva, this week instead of Elena winning POTW, we will give someone else a chance to use the 15 extra points, here you go Jennifer and Good Luck :yeah:

Preview: Round one
Elena Dementieva vs. (WC)Nathalie Dechy: Elena is on fire these past few weeks, and she is unstoppable, but can a late entry Nathalie make a great debut against the world number one. I presume Elena to win routinely, possibly three sets.

Mirza vs. Bondarenko: Sania Mirza faces a tough Alona Bondarenko. Alona showed a huge fight of determination against Serena Williams in Tokyo. Held match points but lost. Sania hasn't shown enough for me to make her think she can bring her game to the top. But lately i am thinking that her conifdence could soon rise.

Schiavone vs. Mauresmo: Amelie has not really shown any commitment to the tour at all, and has not shown much of anything. I expect Amelie to go into retirement this week if she doesn't send new points. Good placement for Francessca for her debut.

(5)Vaidisova vs. PengShuai got a wildcard into this event in her debut, but really got a bad draw by drawing a very tough Nicole. I expect Nicole to win routinely, but who knows if Shuai can pull the upset.

Zvonareva vs. Pierce:Zvonareva is just in the same situation as Mauresmo. I expect Pierce to win...

(7)Jankovic vs. Govortsova: Olga just like Shuai got a bad draw for her debut, Jelena is getting some confidence after reaching the QF in Tokyo. I expect Jelena to win.

Whitehead vs. Hantuchova:Brie got one of the biggest wins over Chakvetadze to reach the QF in Tokyo, and went up the biggest jump in rnakings in tour history up 12 spots. Daniela has really shown no commitment to the tour, and I expect Brie to win.

(4)Capriati vs. Garbin:Jennifer is on a high after reaching the Tokyo finals, but Tathiana has taken a hit after reaching the finals of Gold Coast, but Jennifer's extra points and confidence should make her win this match.

(3)Kirilenko vs. Kraijeck:Michaella is new to the tour since the Open, and has shown commitment, and could defitnely bring her A-game on. Maria is on a roll this year, making the quarters or better in every event. This will be a close call but I think Maria's consistency will win her in the end.

Chaknashvili vs. Li:Na has shown some great skills in the first couple tournaments of the season, but really has declined since, dropping over 10 spots in one week, I predict if Margalita sends in points, she will win this match, but I presume a close call.

V.Williams vs. Schynder:Patty has sent in one set of points at the Open and that's it. Venus is more committed and has better potential. She will most likely win.

(5)Sharapova vs. Hingis:Maria won Sydney but has been MIA since then. Hingis has been MIA since Meblourne, I am not sure if any of them will send in points. If so, Maria will win.

(8)Chakvetdaze vs. Paszek:When Tamira sends in points, she gets a bad draw and does very well, but that wasonly at the Australian Open, Anna has had some great wins this year, and with that said will win against Tamira.

Castellvi vs. Pennetta:Vilmarie is making her debut this week and will give Pennetta a challenge if Flavia sends in points. I am looking forward to seeing how this match is being played out.

Farina-Elia vs. Cibulkova:I praise Dominika. She sends new points every week and always gets a bad draw, and afraid so, she gets another one. But looking at her points, she can possibly do very well. Silvia has proved she can hang with the top dogs, and is inching towards the top 10 and this is only her third event. Another intriguing match-up.

(2)S.Williams vs. Baltacha: Serena has always been consistent and will always be like that, but this week she must send in new points, and a committed Elena is making her debut this week, and If serena doesn't send new points. Watch out for Elena. But the more confident and consistent Serena should win.

Great work from Maria and Vilmarie. They are just group together as a team for the second time, but they perfrom very well today. Beating the Belgian team in straight sets. In the first set, Kirsten and Caroline had two set ponits, but two winners from maria solve this problem. Congratulations to Maria and Vilmarie for reaching the second round, they will face number 2 seed Tathiana Garbin/Flavia Pennetta inthe next round

Good match from both teams, especially Shuai Peng, she ran very fast today and her groundstrokes were also very powerful today, she made a few mistakes on volleying. But Francesca can volley, so this team was too good today. An all-around game was too strong for Alon and Jelena today. They made a lot of mistakes in the supertiebreaks. But still congrtulations to Shuai Peng and Francesca Schiavone for reaching the second round, they will face number 3 seed Elena Baltacha and Tamira Paszek.

India's Mirza Opens Up

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/sanyalos.jpg

India's top player, Sania Mirza opens up in an exclusive interview and discusses life on the tour, her goals, and her plans for the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp, Belguim.
Interviewer: Welcome Sania, it's great to have you.

Sania: Thanks, it's good to be here.

Interviewer: So Sania, how has life on the Pro Tour been for you?

Sania: It's been pretty fun. There are a lot of nice girls here and they make it enjoyable for me. I don't get homesick too much but there are times when I'd like to wake up in my own bed.

Interviewer: How do you deal with the pressure of Muslim leaders rallying against you?

Sania: It's really sad to me. Honestly, I get really angry because the leaders don't say anything to the male tennis players but I am constantly under fire because I am a woman. Well, I'm not going to quit playing because they say so, I'll retire on my own accord.

Interviewer: Well, of course we're glad that you are continuing with playing on tour. Can you tell us some of your career goals for this season?

Sania: My main goal is to win a singles title. It would be wonderful and it would definently help me raise my confindence level. Also, I want to reach the quarters or better in a grand slam, or even win one. That would make my life complete.

Interviewer: Well the best of luck to you there. So you've been training here in Antwerp, how's that been?

Sania: It's been fun. I'm having a good time around some of the local places and training has been going well.

Interviewer: Well now, how are you feeling health-wise? You had to withdraw from your round one match in Tokyo, what happened there?

Sania: I got really sick, I think I had some bad sushi. I'm really cheap sometimes and I didn't want to pay 3500 yen for a tiny plate of California rolls, so I choose the resturant that was 250 yen. I guess next time I shouldn't be such a penny pincher.

Interviewer: How are you feeling now?

Sania: I feel great. All the bad sushi is totally out of my system. It came out wi...

Interviewer: Yeah... we really don't need to know about that part. How do you feel about your round one match with Alona Bondarenko and what are you feelings about the tournament directors predictions about the match?

Sania: I've heard she's a tough player but we'll see about that. As far tournament directors predictions go, they're somewhat true. I haven't really shown what I can do on tour. Of course I'm going to prove him wrong though.

Interview: How far do you think you'll get in Antwerp?

Sania: Well I've had the terrible misfortune to have Elena Dementieva in my draw so not very far. We'll see what I can do in future tournaments.

Interviewer: Thanks for your time Sania.

Sania: Later gator.

Elena Dementeiva/Nicole Vaidisova def. Serena Williams/Venus Williams 6-3 0-6 10-3
Today, Elena and Nicole were a little bit lucky. Because Serena and Venus had a lot of mistakes in the first set, but in the second set, they became very strong. In the supertiebreak, nothing to say, Serena and Venus, too many unforced errors from both. But Elena and Nicole also did a very good job today, their technique could really work to this powerful team. Nicole's awesome forehand and Elena's good volleys helped them to get into the second round. They will meet number 4 seed Sania Mirza and Mary Pierce in the seconbd round!!! Good luck!

Makiri:"I will win this title!"
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/299/kirilenjkohy2.png
Maria Kirilenko during her first round doubles match against Kirsten Flipkens and Caroline Maes.
Russian Maria Kirilenko said she has a lot of confidence in Antwerp and she also said she will win this title. We do a interview with this number 3 player and the one of the most beautiful tennis player in the world now.

Interviewer: Maria, why you said that you will win this title?

MK: Yeah! Because i trained a lot after Tokyo. And i found that my serve and my groundstrokes had improve during my train. And i had a very good good result this year. So i think i am one of the hot player to win the title.

Interviewer: How do you say your first round oppoment(Michaella Krajicek)?

MK: She is a good player, she serves well and moves well. I know she is a newcomer to the tour. And i think a has more experiences than her. So i doesn't scared too much. But i think i will lose a set to her.

Interviewer: What do you do after Tokyo?

MK: Well, i, Vilmarie, Maria Sharapova and Dominia Cibulkova went to Ginza to do shopping. We bought a lot of things there. And although those Japanese can't say some clear English, i still very appreciate their attitude towards us. And i think the food there are also very delicious. Like Sushi, Sashimi and Tempura. And the thing i like most is the player party there. Because we can eat a lot of traditional foods there. And i also know many players who are new there.

Interviewer: You win your first round doubles match yesterday, how do you feel?

MK: Well, i think i and Vilmarie did a pretty good job. We served well and volley well. And i think Kirsten and Caroline were a little bit nervous. So we are looking forward to our next match against Tathiana and Flavia.

So Im here in Antwerp and looking forward to playing singles this week. My first match is against Patty Schynder of Switzerland; it will be hard but its a winnable match. I think I do a good result.

In my Quarter there is two good Russians; Maria Sharapova and Kirilenko. Makiri has said she will win this title. I think my sister Serena has a good shot though but of course I would like to achieve good result.

So Im off now to go practise with Serena and get ready for my first round match. Wish me luck!

Kirilenko Land

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/alice.jpg

India's Sania Mirza gives us a live report from the world of Kirilenko Land, where the laws of reality dont apply and the Russian actually wins titles.

Hi, Sania Mirza here, live from Kirilenko Land. The Russian Maria Kirilenko has recently stated that she will be the winner of the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp Belguim. Now, I'm sure we all know that the only way she'll win is if she stays here in Kirilenko land where she wins all the time and fat guys name Borris congradulate her by buying her a bottle of vodka. Now, if we're talking about the world of reality, the only way Maria can win the title is if she gets through me, and I don't see that happening anytime soon, not even in Kirilenko land.

Sania Battles Past Bondarenko

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/sania-mirza-13.jpg

India's top player, Sania Mirza had her ups and downs in her first round match against Alona Bondarenko but the rising star of the tour was able to seal her ticket to the second round by taking out the Ukrainian in three sets; 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. The match lasted about an hour and fourty-seven minutes before Mirza cracked a forehand winner to end any hopes that Bondarenko had of reaching the round of 16.

"It definently feels fantastic to win. The tournament director had doubts about me but I think I showed him my committment and I showed a lot of people just how well I can play."

The first set was going good with both players holding their service games until they got to 3-3 when Mirza broke Bondarenko's service and held her own to take a 5-3 lead. Both women held their service in the next two games causing Mirza to take the first set, 6-4.

During the second set Alona came out with a new persona. She broke Mirza twice in the set and went up 5-0 before the Indian was able to hold her serve. Bondarenko served out the set and evened the match at a set a piece after she won the second set 6-1.

"She played well in the second set, I took a little bit off my game because I thought I was going to need some energy for later, and apparently I was right."

The third set was a nightmare for Bondarenko who continued to bulldoze over Mirza, taking a quick 2-0 lead in the opening of the third set. But just as fast as she got the lead she quickly lost it to a renewed Sania who started cracking winners all over the court. The tennis titan destroyed short balls, fired a series of aces and attacked the very weak second serve of the Ukrainian.

Mirza dominated and took a 5-2 lead, Bondarenko was able to battle the unstoppable Indian to hold serve but it didn't make that much of a difference as Mirza held a dominate service game to win the decisive third set 6-3. After hitting the match winning forehand winner, Mirza shrieked with glee and jumped around the court with a huge smile on her face.

"Alona played a great match, I just played better. She's a strong player and it feels good to have a win against her. She'll definently be a threat to many, just not to me." Mirza said with a grin in her after match interview.

With this win Mirza sets up a second round rematch from the Austrailian Open with world number one, Elena Dementieva.

"Well of course I'm going to be seeking revenge. The fact that she's the number one doesn't scare me at all, it's just going to be a bigger upset when I send her packing."

Good job from Jennifer and Anna. Because they have trailed 0-3 in the second set and comeback very greatly. Jennifer using her great topspin forehand and Anna using her smart play, and Na and Vera have nothing to do with those attack. They also made a lot of mistakes to help Jennifer and Anna to win the match. Super great drama match!! Espeically in the supertiebreaks! 12-10, it's the longest supertiebreaks in opur tour! Sania and Mary using their powerful forehand and Elena and Nicole using their powerful groundstrokes. It seems that they have a same style of play. And Sania and mary were just too lucky becuase Elena and Nicole had too many match points and leads in the supertiebreaks. But at last they seem to be very tired and lost the match. BALTACHA IMPRESSES IN ANTWERP

Elena Baltacha took the big scalp of Serena Williams in the 1st round of Antwerp yesterday, but doesn't seem fazed about upsetting the number 2 seed.

INTERVIEWER: Hi Elena, it's very nice to meet you, how are you feeling after your huge upset of the number 2 seed Serena Williams?

ELENA: I'm absolutely thrilled, but to be honest i expected it, to win these big matches you can't be scared of these top players, or else she would have won the match before we went on to the court.

INTERVIEWER: How far do you think you can get this week in Antwerp?

ELENA: I would to love to win this week, but all i can do is play my best and if that is good enough to win this week then great, but if i get knocked out in the next round then that's fine to.

INTERVIEWER: How do you think your new tactic is working out?

ELENA: Very well, i'm lovin playing this way, before it was very boring and i wasn't enjoying my tennis, but now i'm really going for it. Everyone should remember this is only my second tournament (the 1st being a first round loss at the Australian Open) and i still have a lot to learn.

INTERVIEWER: So, next up is Dominika Cibulkova, how do you rate your chances?

ELENA: Well, she has a very strong 1st and 3rd set. But she seems to collapse in the middle of the match, i expect a real tussle between us and i'm sure it'll go down to a 3rd set. But i really hope i can pull through and get to the quarter finals.

INTERVIEWER: Thanks Elena, is there any more you would like to add?

ELENA: No, that's all thanks, cheers for the interview

Jennifer Capriati Struggles Through in Two Three Setters; Admits to Flu

http://www.newsday.com/media/photo/2003-08/9204145.jpg

d. Tathiana Garbin 3/6, 6/3, 6/4
d. Brie Whitehead 4/6, 6/4, 6/4

Antwerp, Belgium--America's Jennifer Capriati has looked scratchy on court this week in Belgium. She's been sloppy with her footwork, uninspired, and has dropped the opening set twice in a row before struggling back to win. Her critics said that she has a lack of passion for tennis, but Jennifer says that something else is wrong with her.

"Yeah, I've been extremely sick this week. I've gotten maybe two hours of sleep because of the shivers at night, even though I'm wrapped up in blankets. Also, I've been vomiting a little each night after I eat dinner, so I haven't been able to get any energy from any food that I've eaten," Capriati said in her press conference today.

Jennifer first played Tathiana Garbin, a very tough customer as it is without the flu bug, but throw that in the mix and the Italian counter puncher is a night mare to play against. Jennifer struggled through, but not without having the trainer give her a few pills.

"One of the pills was for my sinus headache. The other one was for the fever and actual flu. It's been absolutely awful," Jennifer explained after her first match.

The second match was against compatriot and fierce competitor Brie Whitehead. Jennifer was on the ropes again losing the opening set. This time, though, she took a bathroom break and medical time out before coming through in her match.

"It's been awful. To get to the quarters on such a terrible circumstance has been an acheivement for me. I just want to give Mary a fight in the next round. I'll be extremely overjoyed if I win, but I won't be able to show it. I hope I shake it and it's not something more serious," Jennifer said to the press in Antwerp.

It's reported that Jennifer has been wrapped in blankets after coming off court, drinking lots of orange juice with gluocosimine, vitamins, DayQuil, NyQuil...every natural herbal cure on the face of the earth...just anything to shake the flu.

Mary Pierce is her next opponent, who has been in impressive form beating former world number one Jelena Jankovic.

Great match!! What a recovery from Elena and Tamira. They lost the first set and they didn't give up. That's a good atitude. Tamira down-the-line backhand and Elena great volley made this team had a good partnership! And Shuai and Francessca are just too unlucky, because they can close the match in the supertiebreaks, but their's unfored errors really hurt them too much. Congrats Elena and Tamira for reaching the semifinal, they will face Maria Kirilenko and Vilamrie Castellvi ni the next round!

All i have to say is Dominika and Margalita is the strongest team in our tour now. They didn't have a lose yet. Could any team stop them. But they perform very well today. DOminika's powerful groundstrokes and Margalita's great footwork made them to reach the semifinal again. Jennifer and Anna, too strong in the first set, but unfored errors, unfored errors made you missed a chance to win over this great team. But still congrats Dominika and Margalita. They will face Sania Mirza and Mary Pierce.

Sania Stuns Elena

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/san-1.jpg

As promised, India's Sania Mirza stunned the world number one Elena Dementieva of Russia in their second round rematch of the Australian Open second round in which the Russian handed the Indian a heart breaking loss in three sets.

This time the story was different with a happier ending for Mirza. She not only knocked out the top ranked player in the world, she also advances to her first career Quarterfinal. Mirza defeated Dementieva in a match that last 2 hours and 13 minutes with a score of: 6-4, 6-7(1), 7-5.

"I'm still in shock, I'm even still shaking a little bit. A lot of people didn't think that I would win this match, hell, even I didn't think that I would. But, I did and that's all that matters."

The world number one, Dementieva was seemingly unstoppable winning back to back titles at Melbourne and Tokyo. However, today Mirza was just too strong for Elena who had a infamous service meltdown throughout the match that aided in her defeat. Dementieva who was only broken 3 times committed 12 double faults to the match to Mirza's 4. Dementieva had 3 aces in the beginning of the match while it took Mirza a while to heat up to reach her 5 aces of the match.

"Her service played a huge part of the match, a lot of points that went my way were on her second service. She takes a lot of it off and if it doesn't float into the net, it becomes an easy winner. That's what helped me, easy winners."

Dementieva served on the last game of the match and her inconsistancy with her serve was her own undoing. Dementieva saved one match point after being down 15-40 at 5-6. At 30-40, Elena hit a 74mph ball to which Sania answered with a winning forehand down the lines, unreachable even for the quick Dementieva.

"I'm so happy right now! I get the day off today, which is great. The match was very tiring and I get to sleep in, go shopping, eat a nice lunch and watch the other girls play. Since I normally loose in early rounds, I never really thought about how exhausting all this playing can be."

Next up for the young gunner, Mirza, is the sixth seeded player of the tournament, Czech player, Nicole Vadisova. Vadisova has been making headlines of her own, being the first player on tour to win consecutive straight set matches.

"She's definently a good player, I mean the girl's been making tour history. It's a shame that I'm gonna make her history."

Sania into Semi-Finals

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/sansan.jpg

The seed stunner, Sania Mirza has struck again and this time she takes out the seemingly unstoppable sixth seeded Nicole Vadisova. Mirza defeated the Czech in her first triple set match of the tournament; 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. With this win, Mirza advances to her first ever career Semi-final where she'll take on her doubles partner, Frenchwoman, Mary Pierce.

"I'm still in shock! I almost crapped myself, I mean I can't believe it! I'm into the semi-finals! Now that I'm so close, I can't help but think about winning the title."

The day was a bad day for the remaining seeds as they were chopped down and out and the field is left with unseeded players looking to make their marks on the tour.

The outspoken Indian player has won the hearts of many and has now become the new crowd favorite to win the title. With top seeded Elena Dementieva and sister Serena gone, a heavy favorite to win the title is the last standing American, Venus Williams. Also, the swash bucking Italian, Flavia Pennetta is a close second to win the title if she can get past Williams.

"I'm glad to have the crowd behind me, it really can make the difference in a match. It really helped today that they were cheering for me. It made me want to play better and ultimitly I did and look where I am, in my first semi-final. I wish I could take this crowd with me everywhere... wouldn't that be cool? Have your own cheer squad that you take everywhere, I take a crap and there they are cheering away. That'd be pretty cool, I should look into that."

The crowd was overwhelmingly on Mirza's side during the quarterfinal match up with the crowd chanting "San San! San San!" during game/set points for Mirza. When Vaidsova hit the ball into the net on matchpoint, the crowd went nuts, along with Mirza.

"I'm really happy I've made it this far in the tournament. I have to take on Mary in the semi-finals. It's really hard to take on the person that I'm closest with on tour. It's a loose-loose situation, but whatever the outcome, I hope one of us takes the title, preferably me."

Semi-Final Showdowns

Sania Mirza's coach, Matt "Article Whore of the Year" Spice blogs live from Antwerp with his picks on the semi-finals of the Proximus Diamond Games.

Showdown #1

Sania Mirza vs. Mary Pierce
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/mirza.jpghttp://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/Pierce.jpg

In the first semi-final match of the Proximus Diamond Games tournament features the rising star of tennis, Sania Mirza of India taking on her doubles partner, Mary Pierce of France.

Sania: Sania has been one of the most talked about players of the tournament. She's outspoken and has backed up all her talk with impressive wins over the world's number one, Elena Dementieva, and the number six, Nicole Vadisova. She's had three triple set matches in a row and against Mary, it doesnt look like she'll get a break. Her weapons have been her monsterious forehand and a solid serve. She needs to attack any weak serves from Pierce and keep Pierce on the run. If Sania can keep Mary from coming inside the baseline, she'll have a pretty easy time on court.

Mary: Mary has had some impressive wins of her own, she defeated former world number one and current number seven, Jelena Jankovic and her most recent upset is over fourth ranked American Jennifer Capriati. Her biggest weapon is her ground game, she can't let Mirza dictate the direction of the ball like she did with Dementieva. Also, Mary needs to make as many first serves as possible or have some pretty well placed second serves or else Mirza will pounce every chance she gets. If Mary can push Sania behind the baseline, she'll have a good chance at making the finals.

Match: This is the first time these two women have met on court in singles action. They are one of the top doubles teams in the world and it's a disadvantage for both women since they know how the other plays. Mirza has the slight edge against Pierce with her serve and forehand, however if Sania doesn't end the points rather quickly Mary will dominate the long rallies.

Pick: Mirza to defeat Pierce in three sets.

Showdown #2

Venus Williams vs. Flavia Pennetta
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/venussss.jpghttp://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/flavia.jpg

Venus: She's Venus Williams. And if that isn't enough for you, she didn't have to play a single match to reach the quarterfinals, my guess is that her opponents both rather withdraw then get manhandled by the American. However, it was suprising to see how rusty she was in her quarterfinal match against third seeded Kirilenko. Her serve is one of the strongest on tour, she can run down any ball, and she is a wall at the net. If she wants to win this match against Flavia, she's going to have to serve big and keep the enforced errors down cause once a couple fly off her racquet, it opens a flood gate.

Flavia: The swash bucking Italian has proved her strength time and time again. She has had some tough matches but she's shown amazing talent and grace and continues her run into the semi-finals. The top spin she can put on a ball is amazing, along with fierce net play, Pennetta can definently give Venus a run for her money. She needs to combat the powerful hits on Venus with change ups in pace. She also needs to play from the net and not let Venus come in, if she can get Venusd frustrated, the match will be hers.

Match: This match is definently one for Centre Court. It's the main night match and will be a great one. The shrieks of Venus Williams will become a sound of beauty to a record crowd will be in attendance. The match will be jam packed with power shots by Venus and amazing net play by Pennetta.

Pick: Sorry Flavia, it's just too hard to pick against a Williams sister, Venus in three.

A Cinderella Story

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/cinderella.jpg

If you haven't heard of her yet, pick up a sports page, she's all over it. India's Sania Mirza has been the talk of the town and of the tournament. The outspoken rising star of the Pro Tour has continued her Cinderella run and reached not only the singles finals, but the doubles finals as well.

The doubles came as a suprise when the French/Indian team of Mary Pierce and Sania Mirza stunned the top seeded doubles team Margalita Chakhnashvili and Dominika Cibulkova in a tough three setter; 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

"It's amazing that we won. After our singles semi-final I didn't know how it would be for us to play together, but Mary put that past her and played amazing today. I think she should get all the credit for this win today."

Earlier, Mirza downed her doubles partner Mary Pierce in their semi-final showdown with her first straight set win of the season; 6-3, 7-6 (6). The match which took an hour and 18 minutes was a bit one sided until the tie breaker in which Pierce was dominating until Mirza rallied her way back into it saving set point at 5-6 with some monsterious cross court shots. With Mary pushed off the court, Sania came and smacked a winner to level the tiebreaker at 6-6.

The next two points were routine for Mirza as she hammered away at Mary's already crumbling confidence. On match point, Mary smacked a cross court shot wide to hand Sania a ticket to the finals.

"I couldn't believe it! I'm so happy that I've reached the finals! At first I just wanted to make at least the quarterfinals, but now that I'm so close to my first title of the year, I can't help but think about winning."

However, there's one more tough obstacle that Mirza must pass to win the championship, and that obstacle is in the form of a 6-foot-1 Williams sister, Venus. The American fought past Italian Flavia Pennetta 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) to reach her first career final as well. The final is the first time Mirza and Williams will meet.

"I'm a little nervous, but I really have nothing to loose. Nobody really thought I would make it this far, so I'm just going to go out and give her a run for her money. I know she's the favorite to win the match, but if you look at my history, you'll see that I make favorites histroy."

A tearful Sania Mirza watches as Venus Williams accepts her trophy for the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp, Belguim.

Cinderella's everything has turned back into meer mice and a pumpkin. The amazing run that Sania Mirza had into the finals of the Proximus Diamond Games is over. She lost in the finals to American, Venus Williams in a heart breaking three setter; 6-4, 6-7(5), 4-6. After Venus won, a tearful Mirza shuffled off the court with a face mixed of saddness and anger.

"I can't believe that I lost..." Mirza said with tears still streaming down her face. "I wanted to win so badly. I thought I... I... I was going... to." Mirza finally choked out over her tears.

At championship point 5-4, 40-30, Venus hammered away at the crumbling game of Mirza. With every stroke Sania shrieked loud, but as each shriek came out, one could tell that the tears from the young Indian were already coming out. As if she already knew her fate.

"I'm still too upset to talk about this. I wanted this so badly. I committed everything to this tournament. I'm still in..." Mirza took a deep breath trying to catch a breath from her erractic breathing. "I'm still in shock."

However, the spunky Sania Mirza that the Belgian crowd fell in love with is not completely gone. After Sania held back some tears and dried her face she had this following statement to say:

"I'm definently going to take from this and learn. So she beat me today, next time we meet, I'm going to kick her ass."
