Eastbourne,GBR. Nicole Vaidisova wasted no time to despatch hard hitting American Venus Williams in straight sets 6-2 7-5. Nicole started off really well raising to a 5-0 lead before losing her serve. However she managed to serve it out at 5-2. In the second set it was a battle as both players manage to held on to their serve most of the time. However at the penultimate stages Venus made some uncharacteristic double fault to give the break to Nicole . Nicole wasted no time by serving out the match in style. Nicole now will play 7th seeded Anna Kournikova and the match up could be very interesting.

Rodionova Beat Kirilenko,into Second Consecutive Quarterfinals

Roland Garros Champion Anastassia Rodionova continued her good form to reach the quarterfinals in Eastbourne after defeating compatriot Maria Kirilenko 3-6,7-5,6-4 in the second round.

"Well,I watched her previous match before we played and she played pretty solid.I wasn't very confident with my game at first but thank god I finally pulled through.The match was actually pretty even especially in the first set but I kinda got unlucky in some points.But I managed to be ahead of her in the second and third.That's the factor that made me won the match."

"Elena is next.I last beat her on the way to claim my first grand slam.She's definitely not an easy opponent to play with.She's definitely hoping to get her revenge against me(laugh).I just hope we'll have a great match.And we'll play doubles later.So I hope we'll win."

Rodionova was beaten in last week's Ordina Open by Ana Ivanovic who later became a finalist.The eighth seed also lost first round in Birmingham against Viktoria Azarenka.

"I'm already happy with what I've achieved so far.Grass is not my favourite surface but I managed to play as good as possible.I'll just try to enjoy my game and hopefully getting some good results.And also,defend some points later in the season."

Rodionova Edges Dementieva to Advance into Semifinal

Rodionova moves on into her second semifinal of the season with a three close sets win over her doubles partner,Elena Dementieva 5-7,6-4,7-5.

Rodionova was leading 3-0 in the first set but Dementieva managed to win four games in a row before having two set points.Rodionova saved both but failed to save a break point later in the set.Dementieva won the first set 7-5.

The second set was also similar to the first one where the eighth seed was up 3-0.But this time she was able to hold on to her own serve at important moments and claim the set 6-4.

This went down to the decisive set.Interestingly,Rodionova was again leading 3-0 before the second seeded Dementieva fought back and level the match.Both grand slam winners managed to hold each of their serve and later Dementieva was one game away from the match.Rodionova successfully held her serve and it looked as if it was going to a tiebreak but the Roland Garros champion won a decisive point on Dementieva's serve when Dementieva was up 5-5 40-30.Dementieva hit a double fault before Rodionova won the game with a backhand down the line.Rodionova went on to close out the match 7-5 after almost 3 hours of play.

"That was indeed a great match.I was expecting it and both of us were playing pretty solid from both sides of the court.It was unlucky that one of us must lose.And that was her.But anyway,I hope she'll be playing well in Wimbledon.Well,as for me,my aim is to win my semifinal match and to be in the final."

She'll be playing against third seed Tatiana Panova who won her match in straight sets against Mary Pierce 6-3,7-6(5).Another semifinal showdown will be between top seed Alicia Molik against sixth seed Tatiana Golovin.

Rodionova Makes Second Final Of the Season

Roland Garros champion Anastassia Rodionova fought off 4 match point and emerged victorious against third seeded Tatiana Panova in the semifinals of The Hastings Direct International Championship.She won Panova with a score of 3-6,6-3,7-5.

Panova started the match quite well where she was up 2-0.Rodionova was struggling to find her form that helped her to beat Elena Dementieva in the previous round.Although she won the break point and levelled the match at 2 all but her compatriot broke Rodionova's serve once again and went on the claim the first set 6-3.However,things were a little different in the second set where Rodionova won 3 straight games and led the set 5-1.Last season's finalist,Panova tried to make Rodionova ran all over the court but to no avail and without any surprise,Rodionova won the second set with the same margin.

In the decisive set,Both players traded their serves and later held their own serves.But Panova made a stride by breaking the eighth seed in the fifth game and eventually led the set 5-2.It was seemed to be over for Rodionova but she never gave up.She crawled back game by game and was lucky to level the match at 5 all after a let cord going her way when she hit a drop volley.She then never looked back and won another 2 games to close out the match 7-5 after 2 hours and 6 minutes.

"It was a very nervous match for me.I was trying to make her play every shot I could possibly play in the first set but she seemed to have all the answers.Then I took out my plan B and it eventually worked.Then going into the third set,I was actually pretty confident but she immediately broke my serve and was having some match points.I was actually going to give up but she somehow made some uneccessary mistakes and let me have the chance to make a comeback and finally won it.It was definitely tough but nevertheless,I pulled it off."said Rodionova in the press conference.

She is set to meet her final opponent,#1 Alicia Molik who defeated two time winner,Tatiana Golovin 6-7(7),6-4,6-3 in another semifinal earlier in the day.

"Well,I won her in our last encounter in Paris a few weeks ago where I won my title.But I believe she'll be eager to get her revenge,just like Lena who eventually failed to do so(giggles).She actually played pretty solid this week as I watched.So I just hope I'm able to keep my record in final 100%(2/2 in finals) tomorrow.Wish me luck then."replied the French Open winner about her final match.

She later paired up with Elena Dementieva to play against Maria Sharapova/Flavia Pennetta in the doubles.They won 6-3,1-6,6-4.

Russian No.5 player Anastassia Rodionova successfully won her third career title in Eastbourne after defeating No.1 seed Alicia Molik 6-2,7-5 in the final.

Rodionova was the player in charge since the first set and only had little trouble in the second set where the Australian had a couple of set points.The Russian bravely fought off both set points and won three consecutive games to close out her opponent 6-2,7-5 in one hour and 53 minutes.

"Wow!I couldn't believe the outcome of this match.I was expecting a three setter but it was definitely easier than expected.She(Molik) didn't play well at the start of the match and I just took the advantage and played my game.She improved in the second set but I was playing pretty solid there.The only problem I had in the match was my volleys.It didn't work well but other than that,I'm very satisfied with my performance today and for the whole week."

Before that,she played her semifinals doubles match with partner Elena Dementieva and won their opponent,seventh seeded Mary Pierce/Maria Kirilenko 6-4,6-3.The Russian pair later went on the claim their second doubles title together after battling against Xin-Yun Han/Shahar Peer and won 6-2,5-7,6-4.

"It is definitely a very good week for me.Winning two titles in a week is already a great achievement for me.And besides that,I beat the top 3 players on the tour in my singles and this is enough to prove my victory in Roland Garros wasn't a fluke.Next week we'll be playing Wimbledon.Although grass isn't my best surface but I believe anything is possible.So I hope I'm able to play like this week.Even if I'll not win,at least I'm able to be a threat to others in the slam.So see you all next week."

Rodionova is currently #4 in the singles race and #6 in the rankings.She is also ranked the second best doubles teams with Elena Dementieva to date.
