Maria Kirilenko
Congrats Masha ;) She deserves it after all her epic wins (and losses :p) and her run to the semis in Eastbourne has finally sealed the POTW award for her and gives her an extra ace to use at Wimbledon :yeah:

Amelie is clearly the favourite for the title after compiling a 13-1 record in the three grass warm-ups, she's an intelligent player and with 4 aces is tough to beat, but how will she cope with the pressure of being favourite? Tamarine remains her greatest threat after having an impressive grass season herself, and as for Severine, her coach's absence has hampered her, but she still has 4 aces, and should not be underestimated.
The Contenders

Venus has really impressed me these past few weeks, and with her best surface still yet to come a few wins here would really be a bonus, Maria can get tight at the key stages but is a real fighter, and with her extra ace, could be dangerous, finally there's Lindsay, she's struggling with her confidence, but she can surprise if she uses her aces wisely.

Farina Elia Fan Aug 18th, 2007, 11:15 PM Queen Dechy Arrives In London!
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/541/dechy3.jpg
Superstar Nathalie Dechy arrived in London, with huge sunglasses and a big hat to pale in the background in one of the busiest citites in the world to hide from the famous British press who love their celebrities. Dechy, the former world number 1 and Australian Open champion is a huge hit with the public who consider her their Queen and just like the Queen in Britain, she was greeted by masses at a small function in London and was kind enough to allow the public to touch her hand.
Dechy said 'Its great to be in a city like London. Their are some amazing shops and cant wait to go to the Ivy for the first time, I am meeting Vicky B there. We are great friends and I cant wait to meet her again. The BBC have also asked me to go on TV show 'A Question of Sport' which is fab and I will play a little tennis. Its not my main priority anymore until the YEC but I owe it to my fans to come. They know I wont win but my people say I have thoudsands and thousands of letter saying "stop that weirdo Bartoli" but Dr Walter is a tough taskmaster and keep her on court a lot which is sad but if you look at her you can understand why'
Vamos. Aug 18th, 2007, 11:30 PM  Dechy! Love it!

Vamos. Aug 20th, 2007, 12:09 AM I just can't believe it. Really can't. The bad draw HAD TO COME though, Dav, because my draws for the grass so far have been:drool:...I have been avoiding the grasscourters like the plague.
So now I get:
Tammy (nearest rival for Wimbledon) in 2R
Kutuzova (strong coach, I believe, and 3 Acer)
Molik (4 Acer)
And then the Final, which will obviously be tough.
:help:...I just hope I can battle past Tammy, then I will be confident. :yeah:

Marion Bartoli last night arrived at the third grand slam of the year after an up and down grass season highlighted by a QGF appearance at last week's tier 1 Eastbourne title.
"I'm definently known for bringing my A game to the court when it counts and I think that's evidenced by my three titles including a grand slam and a tier 1 title and of course Eastbourne last week."
"I know the haters are saying I have no chance..and that I'm irritable, but I definently rate my self as a serious chance to win this title"
Vamos. Aug 20th, 2007, 12:46 PM Tammy will deal with Jankovic.

Vamos. Aug 20th, 2007, 08:39 PM Favourite Mauresmo Arrives at SW19.
http://championships.wimbledon.org/images/pics/large/b_12_mauresmo_119_reuters_k_lamarque.jpg
Amelie Mauresmo arrived at Wimbledon today fresh after two consecutive titles, an unrivalled 13-1 grasscourt record and a career-high ranking of #5. Can she do it on the biggest stage in the world, though? Well all will be revealed over the course of the coming week. The tournament is due to start tomorrow and Amelie is confident that she can prevail in her opening round.
"For me, the tournament doesn't begin till the second round. It is weird because I am given Tamira in the first round, who I should beat handily, but then my second round match is equivalent to the Final. It will be hard getting myself mentally prepared from one extreme to the other. To be drawn against Tammy so early, I think, is a travesty to tennis and to tennis fans. It is worthy of a Final if not a very late round, we have, together, dominated the grass and won all titles on this surface but here we are playing second round at Wimbledon. It is such a shame, it really is. I have two titles, she has one. But our head-to-head is one a piece. It will be such a close match; it is anyone's to take, I assure you..."
Who else does Amelie view as a threat?
"Certainly Kutuzova. I just get the feeling she will perform well here, I don't know why. My coach and I watched her play earlier this season on grass and we just felt she has all the weapons, you know. Like everything. A big serve, big forehand, nice volleys and good movement. Competent slice backhand. What more can you ask for on grass? The results haven't come but this could be her breakthrough tournament. Only, I hope not because she is in my section of the draw:lol:"
"To be honest I am just looking forward to this week. I have achieved so much on grass already, more than I could've hoped for. And I think I am at my best right now and I am confident in that fact. I guess what I am trying to say is, I am going to go out on that court without any nerves, feeling totally confident and I AM going to play great grasscourt tennis. There are no two ways about this. I will be playing well here. It is up to the other girls to match my level. If they do, then fair play to them...I am playing close to my best so I know somebody has reached an amazing level to beat me."

Tennis-Chick Aug 21st, 2007, 01:09 AM Chakvetadze Eager For Wimbledon
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k89/xXxPosterGirlxXx/new7.jpg
London, ENGLAND-- Anna Chakvetadze is ready for Wimbledon challenge, the young Russian arrived in England on Sunday night, after a couple of days training in Scotland. "My flight was delayed for hours, because of the Heathrow protests. I was originally supposed to leave Glasgow, at 12.00 on Sunday morning, so I could practise on Sunday evening, but I just kept being delayed, by the time I got here on Sunday night, I was too tired to practise. So this morning I was up very early to get prepared for my first match. I practised for a couple of days in Glasgow, just getting used to the climate, and I needed more time on the surface also.”
The 20 year old, hasn’t had a great grass season, disappointing after her great clay season, her main success has come in doubles over the grass season, reaching two finals, “Grass isn’t my favourite surface. But I know I should be playing better than I am, I haven’t got used to the surface this year, I show some form for short periods in matches, but they never last, and I get very frustrated on court when I know I should be doing better, which just distracts me even more. Ashley and I have had a good doubles season though reaching two finals and one semi, we seem to play better together on grass even though it’s not our best surface.”
The San Diego/Cork resident has a tough round 1 match against 7th seed, Lucie Safarova, “Lucie is a great player, a tough match for me. She always fights and it’s Wimbledon, everyone wants to win badly and I’m sure every point will be hard fought. I have played her a few times, and she has great weapons, which will probably suit her on grass. I need a few good wins here in singles, I want to get my ranking back up.”
One of the reasons the Russian wants to get her ranking back in the Top 10 is to play Fed Cup, at the end of the season, “Playing for my country is very important for me. Even though I spend most of the tennis season in San Diego, Cork and Monte Carlo, Moscow is my home, and I love Russia. Playing for Russia is a dream of mine and I really want to be in the top four Russian’s by the end of the season. I need to be consistent, and that is one of the things I’m working on now in singles. In doubles, Ash and I play very well together and our world number ones, so I want to translate that success into singles as well on all surfaces.”

Today at the Championships Wimbledon Venus Williams of the US dispatched Maria Sharapova of Russia 6-1, 6-4. With such an impressive win over a talented player and coach Venus is full of confidence going into her match against T. Golovin of France.
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/Vee43.jpg
"All I can say is that my serve was on today. It was so on! I almost can believe how well my slice serve to Maria's forehand worked today. That is what won me this match today, my slice serve. I also hit my forehand up the line very well today which allowed me to move in to knock off some volleys.
Really excited to be playing here in England and hope I can make it to the second week. I need the points!"

BWLH Aug 21st, 2007, 09:51 PM Krajicek into Second Round in Wimbledon
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/XWIM155062917_1024x768.jpg
Michaella Krajicek started off her Wimbledon campaign by defeating Iveta Benesova 5-7,7-6(5),6-3 in the first round.
Both players were pretty shaky at the beginning of the match but Benesova was able to hold off Krajicek to win the first set 7-5 after Krajicek hit her forehand wide.Benesova seemed to have the upper hand after winning the first set while Krajicek still struggled to get the balls in court. As a result,Benesova went on to lead the second set 5-1 and was two points away from victory. But the gutsy Dutch lass fought back to eventually win the second set in a tiebreak. The #11 player later closed out the match after Benesova played a backhand onto the net.
"I was that close from losing first round again for the second consecutive event. But I tried to play every point I could and waited Iveta to make some mistakes. And I eventually did it.She looked pretty disappointed after that second set and I just took my chances to win the match."said Krajicek after her match.
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/XWIM151062910_1024x768.jpg
"I'll meet Anna (Chakvetadze) next.I hope I can win it again this time. But I'm well aware that Anna is a very dangerous opponent and she just won her match against Lucie in straight sets.Although I won her in our only meeting earlier this season,it was also a 3 setter. So I'll be ready for the battle tomorrow."
"I'd like to reach the quarters at least in Wimbledon as grass is one of my favourite.I have had a pretty disappointing grass season so far, making only two quarterfinals appearance and a first round exit last week. It's definitely worse than when I play on clay where I reached at least quarterfinals at each event and a semis in Rolond Garros.I know I'll not have an easy way to win matches but I really really hope I can emulate my success on clay and do well here."continued the #11 player.
"I was very shocked when I knew Amelie lost her first round match against Tamira.Momo is just the hot favourite and was set to win Wimbledon. But things definitely changed especially when it's a grand slam.Just like the last 2 slams, the hot favourite will bow out in the first round.I don't know it's a curse or what, but I hope someone will break it.I know Momo will not be happy at the moment but I hope she'll be ready for the hard court season."
The Dutch will also play her first doubles match with Israeli partner-Shahar Peer against Nathalie Dechy/Averane Rezai in the second round tomorrow.

Tennis-Chick Aug 22nd, 2007, 01:29 PM Chakvetadze Happy With Wimbledon Start
http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20070629/i/r3661942803.jpg
London, ENGLAND-- Anna Chakvetadze is happy with her start to the third Grand Slam of the year at Wimbledon. The 20 year old, was a contender for Roland Garros this year but suffered a first round shock defeat and she is at Wimbledon looking to make up for it. "Roland Garros, was my best chance to win a Grand Slam in singles. It's my best surface, and I love the atmosphere and everything about it. I was very upset after the loss, I want to make up for it here. I know I can win some matches, I have definitely improved a lot over the grass season, and know I can win here."
The Russian has had more success in doubles at the Grand Slams, winning her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and getting to the quarters at the French Open with American Ashley Harkleroad. The pair have also won two other titles this year, been in numerous finals and are the world number ones. "I love doubles. Ash and I are a good team, we work well together. To win my first Grand Slam with her was great, I enjoyed it very much. I hope we can go far here too."
First up for Chakvetadze was world number 7, Lucie Safarova. The Russian stormed to a 63 63 win in just under an hour, to set up a meeting with tricking opponent Misa Krajicek of Netherlands. “I played very well. I really wanted to make up for the early Roland Garros lost. I knew I could beat her, and I’m glad I could prove it. She played well, but I just played the bigger points better. I served well, which is vital on grass, and was able to break her a few times. Next up is Misa, she is a very good player, she can beat anyone even on her worse surface. I’m sure it will be a good match, and I hope I can come out on top.”
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k89/xXxPosterGirlxXx/ANNA11.jpghttp://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k89/xXxPosterGirlxXx/ASH.gif
The top ranked doubles team, Harkleroad/Chakvetadze took to the court early this morning in their second round Doubles match. The American/Russian showed their power and their consistency by beating the fighting pair of Bartoli and Dementieva 6-4 4-6 6-3. “It was a tough match for us, the fought very hard, every point was long and exciting for the crowd. We were on court for over 1h 30mins, which is a long time for a doubles match usually, but it was a good way to start our campaign. It showed us how good we were playing on this surface, and what we needed to work on before our next match. We played well, they broke our serve just once, to take the second set. But we were able to break them early in the third set, which sealed the win.”
Chakvetadze is third up on Court No.1 today, against Dutch star Misa Krajicek. Also playing today is French Open Champion Marion Bartoli and number 8 seed Venus Williams. “I was on Court No.1 yesterday and I was able to win, so hopefully I can continue the steak”

Alizé Molik Aug 23rd, 2007, 09:12 AM Bartoli through to QF
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3116/Bartoli01.jpg
LONDON: World number 1 Marion Bartoli fought through to the QF for the second time in a row on grass after a two hour match against Italy's Flavia Pennetta, the world number 12, 6-3 4-6 7-5.
The match opened with a strong opening set 6-3, Pennetta rallied to take the match to 4-4 on the strength of her service and good movement around the grass courts. For almost an hour it looked like Marion had completely lost control of the match as Pennetta closed out the second 6-4 and served raced out to a 5-2 lead on service to close out the match.
After a rain delay however, it was Bartoli who came out firing, leveling the match at 5-5 soon after returning to the court and finishing the match 7-5 after having one five games in a row.
"This was without a doubt one of the toughest matches I have ever played in my career and I cannot believe how well I was able to play today, my shots just really came off well on the grass and I was able to come out after that rain delay and really destroy her with my A game."

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/20070704_17_74808455mt131_the_champions.jpg
Michaella Krajicek won her second round match against Russian Anna Chakvetadze on Court 1 but not with an easy match. Both players fought hard but Krajicek prevailed in 5-7,6-3,6-4.
"Well,I played pretty solid tennis today I think. She(Chakvetadze) also played pretty good especially in the first set but I kinda stepped up my game when it needed the most.I don't care even if it was a walkover win or any three setter with long play games or tiebreakers,as long as I win, then I have no problem with it.Now I'm happy with my quarterfinal appearance as I've hoped but who is satisfied with just this?Of course I'm hungry for better results."
"Alicia is my next opponent.Although she didn't play well as expected in the previous events on grass but she definitely has lived up her expectations in the grand slam.I am expecting another three setter but whoever wins will be fair for me as both of us deserve to go further in the tournament. So I hope I'm in good form and play well tomorrow.May the best wins,Alicia!Good luck!"
The Dutch lass also emerged as the victor alongside with Shahar Peer in their doubles match against Aravane Rezai/Nathalie Dechy. They won with a 4-6,6-4,6-4 scoreline earlier in the day.And with that, they are now the doubles semifinalist.
"No doubt that we're happy about it.Both of the teams played some spectacular shots during the match. In spite of the win,I just hope I am able to manage my singles and doubles play and if possible,I'd like to make it a double. It'll be very special particularly in a grand slam. However,as for the moment,I'll take one match at a time and don't think too much about my future matches."

Yesterday Venus Williams was able to pull through a tough round of 16 match dispatching T. Golovin 6-4, 7-5.
"I'm really excited to make it to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. Although I didn't expect it, I have had a great grass season so far and I'm extremely happy with my results on this surface.
I'm also looking forward to my match against Severine today. She is a tough cookie on this surface, but I hope that my game will be enough to pull out the win and get into the semis."

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3171/XWIM196070212_1024x768.jpg
Before Wimbledon started,Michaella Krajicek just hoped to be in the quarterfinal after an average grass season. But now she's now in her third semifinals of her career and her second consecutive grand slam semifinals. And she did that by eliminating Australian Alicia Molik easily 6-3,6-2.
"I was feeling very fresh and fine when I stepped onto the court.I started off very well.My serve,my volley and everything were pretty good.Everything just seemed to go on my way.But Alicia never did play badly, she was just unlucky on some points where she should have won.But congrats to her for making thus far.And for me,I'm also very ecstatic for being the semifinalist of a grand slam once again."
"Next up is Tammy. She's just on fire during the grass season. She's also the hot favourite to win the title since Amelie lost.I just hope I am able to go further since I have already achieved my goal.At this stage, anything can happen as all semifinalists will no doubt playing their best to achieve what they dream of-a grand slam title. But for me,I'll just go naturally and think positive."
"Yeah and doubles. We're in the finals once again.Third consecutive doubles finals on grass,if I remember well as we won our second consecutive grass court title for the past two weeks.Great play from Tammy and Lourdes too.We were playing amazing tennis throughout the whole match and we were just a little lucky especially on the last point.I hope we'll win our fourth doubles title and the first one in grand slam!"

Kevin. Aug 25th, 2007, 06:35 PM Tanasugarn wins Wimbledon
WIMBLEDON,ENGLAND-AP- Tamarine Tanasugarn won her second ATC title of her career- and her first grand slam.
She just made her top 10 debut after a title win in Birmingham, a quarterfinal finish in Eastbourne, and a final at Rosmalen last week.
She knew her draw was tough at the beginning. She could be facing grass court specialist Amelie Mauresmo in the second round. Tamarine faced Jelena Jankovic in her first match.
In her first round match she faced Jelena Jankovic and defeated her easily 7-6(3),6-4.
"I played gutsy and I played awesome and I just had a good feeling here at Wimbledon."
She would face Tamira Paszek who upset Amelie, the 5th seed, 7-5,7-5.
"I was shocked, I mena I did not change my game plan and she did, and she lost which means I have a good chance at winning, but it wil be tough to defeat Tamira."
In the second round, she faces Tamira Paszek. Tammy won easily 6-1,6-1.
"I cannot believe that match was that easy, she must have gone all out cause I played unbeliveable, It is do or die here."
Menawhile as she waits to see who her quarterfinal opponent, she goes to the doubles competition. She is the third seed with Lourdes Dominguez Lino, and they sure got one hell of a draw. Facing 4-acers Amelie Mauresmo and Severine Bremond in their first match.
They won 6-2,6-4.
"I think that was a difficult match, but we are in the semifinals and we now face our rivals Michaella Kraijeck and Shahar Peer but we won Roland Garros, maybe we can win a second grand slam in a row."
After leaving Centre Court she found out her Quarterfinal opponent-----Aravane Rezai.
"It will be a tough match, but I am ready to win."
Tamarine won another easy match 6-2,6-1.
"I have lost 5 games in the past two matches, my fintess level is getting better and better, I am ready to beat whoever my opponent is."
Her opponent is comeback queen Michaella Kraijeck.
But first was her doubles semifinal, Lourdes and Tammy were upset in a close 7-6,7-6 loss to Michaella Kraijeck and Shahar Peer, the second seeds. "They deserved to win they were playing out of their minds, but I got to see what Michaella plays like and I am ready."
She defitnely was ready.
She was into the final with a huge 7-5,7-5 win with a sold-out Centre Court over the young dutchwoman.
"I wsa up 5-2 in each sets, and she was getting closer but I jsut went all-out and I am ready to face Severine Bremond in the final."
Tammy went down an early break on the final, and eventually lost the first set 6-4. She then went on a rampage.
She won the second set 6-0.
Severine went on a rage going up a double break 3-0.
Tammy goes up 5-4, Severine serving at 0-40.

"It is just amazing, and I have to thank Tamira, for beating Amelie, and Severine for providing a great final, and I am jsut shocked," she says smiling.
Tamarine's new ranking is number 3, by beating Severine, Marion Bartoli provided Tamrine with a rolls-royce for beating Severine and letting Marion stay number one.
"I will be number one, soon, just watch out for me!"
