Information on Events
This week at the Australian Open there will be:

Singles and Doubles - Your Surface Points into 3 sets.

There will also be

Mixed Doubles - Optional event. Choose 1 member of your team alongside an ATP player of the same nationality and points (sent to me) will be -
150 points each - 13 Games x 3 Sets

Singles Qualifying - All 24 countries have already been given one space each in the Singles Draw but that leaves 8 spaces. Instead of using 8 CPU players I will use 8 Qualifiers. So the Qualifying draw will be 24 countries ( representitive each) + 8 WC to have a 32 player draw. The Quarter Finalist in the Qualifying draw will all get a place in the main draw. The format will be the same as singles to send in points. Points to send will be your surface points into 3 sets

Send points for all four events to me. If Jeronimo runs Doubles I will just send him the points

Any Questions; just Ask :wavey:

Q: Welcome in Malbourne girls! How you feel in here?

Marta: I feel a litlle tired, cuz I arrived here from Europe and travel was so long. Anyway, now I have a few days to rest. Malbourne is a beautiful, so I hope I'll see all town and I'll go to shopping.

Aga: So do I...

Q: Your country won 1st title in Portoz. That was tournament on hard courts. Don't you think that can be an obstacle before AO?

Aga: I don't think so. Both surface are similar, so it shouldn't be a problem to change our game. Of course Hard is our best surface, but we count for good results here.

Marta: She has right. Our results on RA aren't so good. We lost in 1st round in singles and doubles in Gold Coast. Victory in Portoz was very unexpected. Before this event we weren't won match in singles. Now we feel more confident and I think it should help us.

Q: For the first time we have qualifing tournament, so you both have a chance to play in main draw. You also play in doubles or mixed doubles. What do you think about your potenial oponnents?

Marta: I don't who will be my rival, cuz I'll play against qualifier in 1st round. I hope it's good sign before rest event. I think we have very good draws - we have chance to play in semis. Yeah, semifinal is my goal. Fot the first time I'm gonna play in mixed doubles. I think it will be good preparation before singles matches. I'll play with Mariusz Fyrstenberg - my ex-boyfriend. He is very good doubles player. I hope play with him will be good experience for me.

Aga: I need win two matches to play in main draws. I'll do it! Players from Netherlands and Japan won't be a problem for me. I belive it. With my sister I'm gonna play in doubles, I think we should win 2 matches at least. Quaterfinal would be very good results.

Q: Who is your favourite to win AO?

Aga: Usbekistan - that clear favourite to win it.

Marta. Usbeksitan or Switzerland. I don't belive in any upset, but we will see...

Q: Thanks for interviev and good luck!

Anna was made to work but looked good in coming past Srebotnik.

Next I played against Rawdanska, I was playing well, although her big forehand and service, make me fall, so I loose. BAD luck :S"

"When I was taking a coffe, I heard that I will have a match agaisnt Castellvi, for one vacant place in the MD, (Lucky loser place), I was so nervous because was my last chances. I went to court nº4. Day 1 - Mixed Doubles Results

Round Robin Group 1

Group 1

CAN Dancevic/Pelletier

PUR Nido/Viqueiro

SVK Hrbarty/Ciblukova

CPU Nalbandian/Dulko

Results

PUR Nido/Viqueiro def. CAN Dancevic/Pelletier 6-4 7-6

Both had very good game plans. Nido and Viquerio left some loopholes but thwy gained in confidence throughout the match to take the victory.

SVK Hrbarty/Ciblukova def. CPU Nalbandian/Dulko 6-0 6-0

Fast, hard serving and powerful, agressive grounstrokes where just to much for the Argentine pair. Slovakia breeze thorugh their opening match.

SVK Hrbarty/Ciblukova def. CAN Dancevic/Pelletier 5-7 6-2 6-1

I feel really bad for the Canadians; their gameplan was miles better, the Slovakians were way to aggressive; they were 5-0 up in the first set and they choked - big time. Canada has easily the best points in this group just the numbers were in the wrong place vs. Slovakia.

PUR Nido/Viqueiro def. CPU Nalbandian/Dulko 6-0 6-3

The Peurto Ricans were the better team here. End Of. There points work a lot better than I excpected and could go far. Watch this space.

CAN Dancevic/Pelletier def. CPU Nalbandian/Dulko 6-0 6-0

IMO, the Canadians deserved all three wins but wil have to be content with a Double Bagel here. Any other group Im pretty sure they would have qualified but they have just fallen short.

PUR Nido/Viqueiro def. SVK Hrbarty/Ciblukova 7-5 2-6 7-6

With both assured of Qualification, this was for first and second in the Group and this match should there is a fine line between how much agression should go in a match. In both the first and final sets, the Slovaks were up 5-0 before they were clawed back but the Nido and Viquerio who played a great match and deserve the win.

Final Standings

1. PUR Nido/Viqueiro W-3 L-0

Results

GER Kleifer/Graf def. UKR Bubka/Kutuzova 6-3 4-6 6-1

The final set was the closest despite the wade scoreline. It really couldve gone either way today. The Germans should be happy with this win.

ISR Ram/Peer def. CPU Srichaphan/Tamasugarn 6-3 6-2

An easy openor for the Israelis - not much more you can say about that - not really challanged,

ISR Ram/Peer def. GER Kleifer/Graf 6-4 6-3

Another good match from Ram and Peer. The Germans looked to have the better gameplan. but it came up short against this team.

UKR Bubka/Kutuzova def. CPU Srichaphan/Tamasugarn 6-4 6-4

The match couldve gone either way as both had very simple game plans but Ukraine keep themselves in the hunt with this victory.

GER Kleifer/Graf def. CPU Srichaphan/Tamasugarn 4-6 6-0 7-6

A lot closer than it should have been. Still no win for the CPU teams but they are getting closer...

UKR Bubka/Kutuzova def. ISR Ram/Peer 5-7 7-6 6-4

A great match from start to finish. Proboly a suprise winner but the Ukraine played better and Israel buckled under the pressure.

Final Standings

1. GER Kleifer/Graf W-2 L-1

Australia play a much smarter game compared to Austria who had a 5-2 lead in every set and in only one was able to close out.

UZB Inoyatov/Lepchenko def. CPU Ancic/Kostanic 6-0 6-0

In Singles, Doubles and now in mixed Uzbekistan now only one way to play. To dominate and intimidate and they sure did that today.

CPU Ancic/Kostanic def. AUS Hewitt/Molik 7-5 7-5

No, I havnt made a mistake here. The CPU actually beat Australia. How? I am still unsure as the Australians gameplan is way better but the Croats prevailed!

AUT Eschauer/Kix def. UZB Inoyatov/Lepchenko 6-2 6-3

The battle of Power was displayed with unforced error after unfoureced error. A record 5 rackets were smashed in the match. Austria prevalied, rather comfortably suprsingly to win the battle of agressionand to keep their dreams of a Quarter Final place alive.

AUT Eschauer/Kix def. CPU Ancic/Kostanic 5-7 6-1 6-1

The Austrians get to the Quarters despite choking away a 5-0 lead. But it couldve been a different story had they lost that game at 5-1 in the last they would have lost 7-5.

AUS Hewitt/Molik def. UZB Inoyatov/Lepchenko 6-3 6-3

Hewitt and Molik gave the crowd somthing to cheer about as they came back from a heavy defeat to get into the Qusrters. Well Done!

Belgium and Polands points are completly different yet they beat Switzerland by the same score. Belgium now guarenteed a place in the Quarters...

Flipkens; Malisse and Henin Move On. Clijsters Waits

http://www.autosflipkens.com/flipus2bu0.jpg

Melbourne, AUSTRALIA--Kirsten Flipkens raised her arms in triumph and let out an "Allez" as she defeated Ukranian Yuliana Fedak in the Australian Open quarterfinals. She would move on into the main draw, which starts tomorrow. An elated Flipkens ran around the stadium, giving high fives to her Belgian and Australian supporters, who came out to watch the dramatic match culminate to a 7/5 victory in the third. So many swings of momentum guided the young Belgian through a roller coaster of emotion. She squandered a 4/2 lead and lost six straight games to hand Fedak the set. The Ukrainians were ecstatic; Flipkens, angered. She broke her favorite racket out of a sudden burst of anger, and quickly broke into tears.

"The match was so emotional for me. I had a chance to close it out in two sets, but I played another three set match. I'm thankful that I get a rest and can say that I'm going to be playing with Kim in the main draw," Flipkens smiled in her press conference. She was seen holding a stuffed teddy bear in her hand, which was wearing a Belgian fanatic's hat and waving a Belgian flag.

"This was a gift from a little girl after we were done today. I never felt so moved by such a simple gift," Flipkens said, her eyes glimmering. "Justine and Kim congratulated me, and it really felt like such an honor to be in the presence of them. Justine, having gotten to the finals of Portoroz, and Kim, a semifinalist in Prague. They're so great to be around."

Henin, Malisse, Callens, and Maes all play doubles tomorrow afternoon in Melbourne

In other action, Xavier Malisse and Justine Henin moved on to the quarterfinal stage of the mixed doubles tournament after going undefeated in the round robin. They face a very stern test in their last match against Poland's Fyrstenburg and Radwanska.

"They were a tough team, and it showed in the scoreline today. We had to play our best tennis and we did. My arm is a little sore from Fyrstenburg's serve. I've never played mixed doubles, so it was hard to time the man's serve," Justine said on court to the Belgian news media. "I am so happy to be playing with Xavier. Who knows what will happen? He said he would marry me if we won a Grand Slam together. It would be our first Grand Slam, and I could see myself in his arms. It would be such a beautiful sight."

"Justine played great tennis today. She had to come up with big shots at times, and delivered with flying colors. I bet her that if we won the Australian Open, I'd marry her. I don't know yet if we are going to win, but it will be fun to find out and eventually see if I do tie the knot in Melbourne," Xavier Malisse said to the Australian newspapers.

The singles competition starts tomorrow, with Kim Clijsters and Kirsten Flipkens playing for Belgium while Justine Henin/Xavier Malisse, Els Callens and Caroline Maes all play doubles.

This shouldve been a lot closer but Iroda was just too powerful and aggresive in the end they just showd everyone why they are the favourite for this title

I had not heard about this Spaniard before this tourny but now I have. I believe with just a little change to her points she has the beating of Iroda. Their encounter will be intresting.

Q: Hello girls!

Marta, Agnieszka: Hey!

Q: What do you think about your matches?

Agnieszka: I think I can be satisfaction from my performance here. That was my first grand slam event and I won two matches. I think it isn't bad for debut.

Marta: I'm very dissappointed. I lost match, which I should won. I was a favourtie, but I didn't use it. At least I advanced to the quaterfinals in mixed.

Q: Could you decribe your matches?

Marta: My match was very tough. I lost to Q Yan Zi from China 4/6 6/3 4/6. My service didn't work. I made too many DF. Of course Zi played very good. She has nice shots. I had my chances, but she didn't let me exploit them. I lead 3/1 in 1st set and had 40/0 when I served for 5/4. Yan played better than me durring important points. After this defeat I and Mariusz played in mixed doubles. We won 2 matches in our group and advanced to the next round. We beat Wawrinka/Widmer form Switzerland 6/4 6/4 and Soderling/Ardvisson form Sweden 6/0 6/0. That was amazing! In the last match we lost to Malisse/Henin form Belgium 6/7 6/4 5/7. Our next oponnet will be team from Israel - Peer/Ram. If we will win this match I'll be very happy.

Agnieszka: I played two tough matches in qualies. I beat Danielle Harmsen 6-7(0) 7-5 7-5 and Anastasiya Yakimova 5-7 7-5 6-4. Then I had very bad draw, cuz I must play against the world no.1 - Martina Hingis. I lost 6/2 6/4, but I think that was good match for me. I learned a lot from my idol Martina. In doubles our team for the 3rd time played against team from Switzerland. I and my younger sister lost to Baczinsky/Schynder 6/4 2/6 3/6.

Where will you play after AO?

Agnieszka: We will play in Paris, Bangkok, Dubai and Doha, then we'll go to the USA for 4 weeks. We'll play many tournaments on Hard - our best surface.

Amazing form Flavia!!! She has been a revelation here and performed brilliantly saving two MPs and defeating both Chinese in the draw. Yan certainly didnt take her chances today and Flavia certainly deserves her place in the Semi Final!

Who you tellin? At least you won a match in the MD! Puerto Rico had an atrocious draw.

Great match though between Zi and Flavia. The live scoring definitely set that one up well. I thought Yan was gonna pull through but great match either way. Good Luck in the Semis Flavia!

Flavia: China's Sterminator

http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/ng/sp/empics/4245627

Flavia Pennetta, the pin up from Italy, is in semifinal.
But she had really to fight hard to come through.
She won difficult matches in three set, defeating the two players from China Shuai Peng and Yan Zi.
The quarter-final against Zi has been one of the best matches of this Australian open. Pennetta after loosing first set 4-6, closed second set with a break at 12th game. In the final set, the two players really played well, not giving a break untill 4-5 when ZI had a match point on Flavia's serve but she wasted it with a bad forehand on net. Flavia hold and then broke at love Zi. On 6-5 in her favor, the italian wasted a mp with a double fault, the first of the match.
In the final tie-break Pennetta really showed to be the strongest and won at 0 at first match point.

http://www.flaviapennetta.net/gallery/Acapulco2007/f_24.jpg

" Just a fantastic week for me, at Zi match points i really thought was ended for me, but then, after her error, i said to myself that i couldn't lose such an occasion, to be in semifinal of a grand slam! I think i will always remember this match as one of my best.
Tomorrow i'll face Martina Hingis, just an impossible match for me. But i'll try my best, i'm a fan of her, so will be a pleasure to play this match!"
