Dementieva will not play in the second round, she has a bye. Then in the second round her opponent will be the winner of Kuznetsova-Bondarenko's match.

Mary Pierce starts the grass season in Birmingham, England, a tournament that she won in season 1. Two times winner of Wimbledon, the former world n°1 made a huge comeback on the tour three weeks ago, by winning 2 titles, one in singles in Berlin, the other one in doubles with Maria Kirilenko in Roland Garros.

In the first round, Mary Pierce is facing Maria Kirilenko. The winner of this match will play against Tatiana Panova, the 3rd seed this week in Birmingham.

Another second round loss for Alona Bondarenko. This time to Elena Dementieva 6-7 6-0 6-7. Bondarenko would not comment but seemed very unhappy and was crying on her way of court. However her sister Kateryna said
"You only have to look at her reation and scoreline to see how she feels. She was so close but not there again. I would be suprised if she will compete next week. It will take her a while to get over this loss"
This was Alonas sixth consecutive second round loss. This is also her sixth tournament of the year. Her win-loss record - 6-6.

Her coach said "All she is said is 'Again. Why again?' Its back to the drawing board. I hope I can convince her to play the rest of he grass season. She defenetly wont retire; but it is obvious the last thing on her mind at the moment is picking up a tennis racket"

"I am really happy to be back on grass. I wasn't playing really well during the clay season and I was anxious to begin the grass one. I've played great tennis so far this week. I have worked on my strategy and hits many balls with my trainer and Tour director, he helps me a lot. I beat good players this week like Panova and Nicole. I am feeling confident going into the final and I really want to win this title. I am going to face Alicia. She's going to be very tough. She's playing really good tennis too, I've seen her last match and she was very impressive. She knows she can win this title and she will head into this match with a big confidence, I mean, she's the world number one...it gives confidence. If I want to win against her, I'll have to keep it tight with her in the first set and my only chance to win the match is in three sets. Hopefully I'll win this one." said Tatiana.

i mean this week :p :p :pshe only beat 4 players out of 25 who played this event :p Ok she managed to win her 4 matches, but who knows, with another draw, maybe she'd have lost in the 1st or second round :p Same with all the winners, not only Alicia :lol:
