Welcome to Sydney,Australia on the second week of the Pro Tour! Last week we saw Jelena Jankovic test it out in teh Gold coast draw and defeated Tathiana Garbin in the closely contested final. Can Jelena pull it off again?

Jelena Jankovic is our first player of the week taking the Gold Coast title, it was tough choosing between her and Garbin, but since she won the title she deserves player of the week. Jelena's reward is.....5 points per set! Congrats Jelena! :yeah:

Anna causes the biggest win of the pro tour, winning against Jelena Jankovic, world number one, who had 15 more points then everyone else, Anna really got lucky in the second set, but was just too powerful and used variety against Jelena. Congrats Anna!

Another seed goes down, as the frist set of Elena Dementieva proved better winning only by 1 point, then Na attacked in the second, but in the end Elena won the battle, Congrats Elena!

What a win for Vera as only 2 seeds advace to the Quarters! Tathiana struggled to win that game in the first set, but other than that it was all Vera, the number 1 and 2 are upset in opening matches! :eek: Congrats Vera!

Li Defeated in a Heartbreaker

Na Li hits a backhand to Elena Dementieva in their second round match of the Medibank International.

As Na Li's last backhand went long, Elena Dementieva let out a shriek of joy. After battling for three hours and 21 minutes, Dementieva finally pulled through 7-6(5), 6-7(1), 7-6(2). The first set was a real battle, with both being broken four times each in the set, including when Li served for the set at 5-4. Dementieva looked re-energized after breaking back to level the first set. Li was the first to wilt, getting broken in the tiebreak at 5-6.
After Dementieva went up 5-2 in the second set, Li showed her fighting spirit, taking the next four games and eventually taking the set 7-1 in the tiebreak. Dementieva had a match point on her serve in the third at 5-4, but Li saved it with a brilliant backhand crosscourt winner. Li held match point at 6-5 on Dementieva's serve, but Dementieva saved it with an amazing backhand that caught the outside of the sideline. At 0-2 in the tiebreak, Dementieva hit seven straight winners to seal the match.
Following the match, Na did not seem disappointed to lose. "She's a great player, and I think we both played really well. There wasn't really anything I could do, and she deserves the win. I will now rest and hopefully I'll be healthy for the Australian Open."

Great match by both and Margalita serves up the first bagel of the tour, congrats Margalita, but needs more variety towards the later stages congrats Elena!

The battle of the remaining seeds was won by Serena and has done really well with these points, very impressive performacnce lately she just punctured into Masha's plan. Good match by both.

Maria Sharapova def. Vera Zovnareva 6-4,2-6,6-3

Vera is using a VERY risky game plan, but today Maria's plan was perfect for this match, Vera needs variety but a good debut here in Sydney :yeah:

Very up and down, but very entertaining match, Serena had chances but in the end, Maria won the battle in the end as Serena just plain ran out of gas in the end. Congrats Maria!

Maria nearly wasts a 5-0 lead in the second set, she didn;t send new points, but I am glad she didn't, as a former runner of this game, I expected alot and Maria brought it on like Donkey Kong, I knew these points would work for her this week. Elena had a great tournament, but Maria was just one step ahead of her
