Jippo McScally Jul 8th, 2002, 09:08 PM Some Horrible draws there!
Darran Jul 8th, 2002, 09:38 PM Good luck to :
Keothavong
Hawkins
Janes
Ahl
Collin
and finally BALTACHA :D
Darran Jul 8th, 2002, 09:39 PM OH and yes paul you are amazing lol
Monica_Rules Jul 8th, 2002, 09:39 PM OMG Anne Keothavong may win a match:eek:
Should get to the quarters!
Elena B ok draw will be tough if she plays Doyle
Good luck to Hannah:D
paul_masterton Jul 8th, 2002, 09:43 PM draw is awful. Baltacha is actually teh 3rd highest ranked player in the draw, but cause they r using old ranks :fiery:
poor Helen, her original draw was Michele Summerside, which would be an easy win, she can take care of Keothaving on current form (anne's not helen's) and oculd probably give selima a scare. as it is she is unliekly to bt janes, although amadna hasnt played on grass that much, and IF she wins she could play Bastrikova!!
dont even get me started on lucie and bally :fiery:   why did they put them in the same 1/4? Lucie has final points to defend, and Bally could have taken this title.
I think it will be a very intersting match.
Also ouch at hawkins vs kelly, i like both
TheBoiledEgg Jul 8th, 2002, 09:48 PM good luck
Anna Bastrikova ;)
Evgenia Linetskaya ;)
Irina Boulykina ;)

Hannah Collin :)
Selima Sfar :)
Cristelle Grier :)
Anna Hawkins :)
TheBoiledEgg Jul 8th, 2002, 09:49 PM Evgenia will take care of Yvonne :p
bluepastures Jul 8th, 2002, 10:11 PM Nicole Sewell did very poorly in Nottingham last week, losing to Lutrova, so I can't see her being a threat to Sfar. Doyle's not the most difficult draw Evgenia could have had, certainly.
Here's the doubles draw:
Leanne Baker (NZ)/ Manisha Malhotra (IND) V Christina Horiatopoulos / Sarah Stone (2*AUS)
Anna Hawkins (GB)/ Kelly Liggan (IRE) V Marina Caiazzo/ Sophie Lefevre (FRA*2)
Helen Crook/ Victoria Davies (2*GB) V Irina Boulykina/ Evgenia Linetskaya (RUS*2)
Anna Bastrikova (RUS) / Liga Dekmeijere (LAT) V Bilyana Pavlova (BUL)/ Visnja Vuletic (YUG*2)
Melissa Berry/ Karen Paterson (GB*2) V Hannah Collin/ Amanda Janes (GB*2)
Chantal Coombs (GB)/ Elsa O'Riain (IRE) V Anne-Laure Heitz (FRA)/ Selima Sfar (TUN)
Alberta Brianti (ITA)/ Natalie Neri (GB) V Michelle Summerside (AUS)/ Anne Keothavong (GB)
Yvonne Doyle (IRE)/ Suzanne Trik (NED) V Amanda Augustus (USA)/ Nicole Sewell (AUS)
Martian KC Jul 8th, 2002, 10:53 PM Good luck to:

VSFan1 aka Joshua L. Jul 8th, 2002, 10:58 PM Hoping for a Selima and Lucie final! :D

paul_masterton Jul 9th, 2002, 06:12 PM Bally/Lucie not playing doubles
bluepastures Jul 9th, 2002, 11:00 PM It looks like there were no matches played at all today, due to the heavy rain. The Wednesday draw is out, and all the 1st round matches are due to be played tomorrow instead.
TS Jul 10th, 2002, 05:12 AM Go Christina H!!! But what a tough opener :(
Good luck all other Aussies too!
BTW, Nicole Sewell is quite a handy little grass court player, with an effective backhand, but she's gotten her fair share of bagels recently so I dont think she'll trouble Selima :(
TheBoiledEgg Jul 10th, 2002, 03:07 PM [1]Sfar d. Sewell 3-6 6-3 6-4 :)
Baker d. WC-Berry 6-3 6-1 :(

TS Jul 10th, 2002, 04:04 PM Nicole :( Great effort tho
Michelle :( She's lost the plot right now. A break and some serious training would do her good.
rated_next Jul 10th, 2002, 06:48 PM Well done Selima :)
Congrats to Kelly :)
VSFan1 aka Joshua L. Jul 10th, 2002, 08:18 PM That is a terrible score from Selima.... :(
paul_masterton Jul 10th, 2002, 08:44 PM Just got off teh phone to Helen Crook who gave me all the results for brits.
Lucie bt Chantal 6/2 6/3 (or something like that - she cant remember!)
Bally won easily (she lost Malhotra in quarters here last year and avenged her defeat easily)
The Keothavong v Grier match was awful apparently "both hit teh side netting all the time. Grier couldnt find court in 1st set, anne coudlnt in 2nd, neither could in 3rd until anne raced away with it" - Helen Crook
She didnt tell me Hannah's score.
Anna lost but played really well, Helen expects ehr to be as big if not bigger than Jane.
Melissa lost quite easily (as we know)
Final result she agem me was teh best one ever - [9]Crook bt [wc]Janes!!!! :D:D:D
that was a really good result as amanda's ranking in no way reflect her ability.
Crook/Davies also won their doubles matches.
It was sunny until late into the afternoon.
Isnt life gr8 when ur friends with a pro tennis player? :p
Paul
Monica_Rules Jul 10th, 2002, 11:41 PM How did you get her number?
I wish i was friends with a british tennis player:sad:
Hopefully Anne can pick up her play for the next round!

GREAT WIN for Helen, very easy. A bit surprised actually, though Amanda might win this as Helen isnt in that good form.
Paul

Poor Helen, shame she couldnt get through this, although she probably would have lsot to Hannah anyway. Who is Horiatopolous girl anyway?
Paul
TheBoiledEgg Jul 11th, 2002, 06:59 PM She's an Aussie 18 yr old girl so she will know how to play on grass just cos she's an Aussie ;)
that loss to Leanne Baker is terrible :(
Hannah should make SF to play Bally i hope.
paul_masterton Jul 11th, 2002, 07:05 PM lol @ eggy
quarter results should be out soon i think.
Paul
spiceboy Jul 11th, 2002, 07:14 PM Christina H reached last year's Wimbledon juniors final in doubles with Betthanie Mattek. :)
Selima is really struggling this season. Why she's not in Casablanca
Poor Anna B. looks like a promise that will never fulfill expectations
Leanne ;)
Evgenia L. but not a bad loss against and old and experienced irish on grass.

C'MON ELENA!!!
bluepastures Jul 12th, 2002, 12:06 AM Today's doubles results (2nd round):
Christina Horiatopoulos/ Sarah Stone (AUS *2) BEAT Marina Caiazzo/ Sophie Lefevre (FRA *2) 3-6, 6-2, 6-4
Helen Crook/ Vicky Davies (GB*2) BEAT Anna Bastrikova/ Liga Dekmeijere (RUS/ LAT) 6-7, 6-1, 6-0
Anne-Laure Heitz/ Selima Sfar (FRA/ TUN) BEAT Hannah Collin/ Amanda Janes (GB*2) 6-4, 6-3
Amanda Augustus/ Nicole Sewell (USA/ AUT) BEAT Michelle Summerside/ Anne Keothaviong 6-0, 6-3
TS Jul 12th, 2002, 04:16 AM Christina :bounce: Woohoo! Her best ever result, well done kid!!!
This will boost her rank up around 200 spots to the mid 400s I think!!! A great rise from 1000 just a few weeks ago!
She has a game tailor made for this surface as she likes to serve and volley...and dont be surprised if she wins the doubles with Sarah Stone...they are arguably one of our best young doubles players!
Elena better be on her guard, cos Christina has absolutely nothing to lose!
TheBoiledEgg Jul 12th, 2002, 04:20 PM Semis
Elena Baltacha d. Christina Horiatopoulos 6-2 3-6 6-3 :D
Kelly Liggan d. Leanne Baker ??????? in other

TS Jul 12th, 2002, 05:01 PM Christina  But great effort all week :)
Hope Elena can cap off a fine couple of weeks now.
This tournament has gone very quick!!!
bluepastures Jul 12th, 2002, 05:12 PM I'll be going to finals day tomorrow. The 25k matches start at 12pm, but I'm unsure about the British tour finals.
MLF Jul 12th, 2002, 06:14 PM Well done elena Baltacha but I want an Irish victory for the final so go KELLY LIGGAN!
bluepastures Jul 12th, 2002, 06:58 PM I've just rung Felixstowe LTC, and the British tour men's and ladies finals will both start at 10:30 a.m (assuming it's not raining!) with the 25k finals at 12pm (but might be delayed if the men's British tour final is a three-setter).
paul_masterton Jul 12th, 2002, 09:10 PM Liggan won 6/3 6/0 :D
Helen/Vicki lost 6/1 in the third. Vicki (Davies) has badly injured hr knee.
Helen (Crook) is now on her way to spain.
bluepastures Jul 12th, 2002, 11:30 PM Just to clarify, the final of the doubles is:
Horiatopoulos/ Stone V Augustus/ Sewell
I know no more scores than Paul has just posted. Blame the LTA not updating their website!
bluepastures Jul 12th, 2002, 11:39 PM The British tour semi-final results at Felixstowe today were:
Visnja Vuletic BEAT Alice Barnes 7-6, 6-3
Julia Smith BEAT Luisa Cowper 6-4, 0-6, 7-5
TheBoiledEgg Jul 13th, 2002, 07:03 PM Elena Baltacha (GB) bt Kelly Liggan (Ireland) 4-6 6-2 6-3 :bounce: :D
Brit Tour Final
Women's final
Julia Smith (Sussex) bt Visnja Vuletic (Yugoslavia) 6-1 6-3 :)
well done Elena & Julia
Martian Martin Jul 13th, 2002, 07:10 PM Wooohooooooo well done Elena!!!!! :D:D:D:D
bluepastures Jul 13th, 2002, 08:06 PM And the other scores were
21 & under final: Alice Barnes BEAT Luisa Cowper 6-2, 6-3
This was the same match-up as at the Tunbridge Wells British tour final last year. The result was different though, as Luisa won that match last August in three sets.
Today's match was a strangely lacklustre performance from Luisa who usually has such a bustling & energetic style
Doubles Final:
Amanda Augustus (USA) & Nicole Sewell (AUS) BEAT Christina Horiatopoulos & Sarah Stone (AUS *2) 7-6, 6-4. In both sets, the Stone partnership led for much of the time, before the greater doubles experience of the older pair took over.
Despite their win, Sewell never seemed to be moving smoothly around the court. Clearly the heavy strapping on her left ankle had something to do with this.
Monica_Rules Jul 13th, 2002, 08:15 PM So how did Ballie play today?
rated_next Jul 13th, 2002, 09:22 PM Poor Kelly
bluepastures Jul 13th, 2002, 10:18 PM Well, it wasn't really a great performance by Elena. Her first serve % was very poor in the first set, and a few double faults crept in too. This lack of confidence in her serve spread to her returns too. The final critical break came when Elena was serving to stay in the set at 4-5.
Kelly had argued about line-calls a couple of time in the first set. But she got even worse in the second! Clearly this was mainly borne out of frustration at her own serve, which is never going to be as powerful as Elena's but needs to compensate with accuracy. 3 breaks of her serve in the 2nd set tells you she failed to do that.
By the third set, both players looked tired in what was becoming a hot & sunny afternoon. No breaks came until the 7th game, for Elena to make it 4-3. Where Elena was surrendering her own service games in the 1st set, they looked invincible now, as she broke again to make it 6-3.
Both Elena's mum and Jo Durie were their to watch her.
Also watching was Evgenia Linetskaya, the exciting Russian junior, who having lost to Doyle earlier in the week, I guess, may be travelling to Frinton this evening.
stevek Jul 14th, 2002, 12:54 AM Thanks for the report bluepastures.
Any other information on Kelly would be much appreciated!
TS Jul 14th, 2002, 06:03 AM tx for the report on the doubles final bluepastures :)
Christina/Sarah  But congrats to Nicole & Amanda.
Well done Elena on the singles title.
