http://www.strangesports.com/images/content/102283.jpg
Serena Williams def. Alona Bondarenko 2-6,6-4,6-4
Alona came out firing, but it seems after her first round win, she got tired quick after leading 6-2,4-0... all of a sudden Serena wins 11 games then loses 4.. I liked scoring this match, but Serena moves on..
mrserenawilliams Jul 30th, 2007, 01:07 AM glad you liked scoring it :yeah:
I enjoyed winning it :yeah:
Kevin. Jul 30th, 2007, 01:16 AM Jelena Jankovic vs. Maria Kirilenko
http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20070703/i/r3140744724.jpg
Jelena Jankovic def. Maria Kirilenko 6-1,7-6(0)
Jelena moves on pretty easily, Maria didn't take her chances and her first set was absolutely horrible going down 5-0 before breaking Jelena, her second set was alot better than the first but could not convert set points.
Cognrats Jelena!
Kevin. Jul 30th, 2007, 01:25 AM Na Li vs. Tathiana Garbin
http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20070714/i/r3466214046.jpg
Tathiana Garbin def. Na Li 3-6,7-5,6-3
This cooldown at 6-3,5-2 Li, gave her a little coaching by her coach and helped her to victory.. Na had a ton of chances but couldn't convert in the second set... But great match by both players!
Kevin. Jul 30th, 2007, 01:32 AM Jennifer Capriati vs. Dominika Cibulkova
http://sites.evc.net/sport/Jennifer%20Capriati/Jennifer_Capriati_23.jpg
Jennifer Capriati def. Dominika Cibulkova 7-6((6),2-6,6-2
Jennifer got in basically as a Lucky Loser, but shows why I picked her to replace Hantuchova, she wins with a cointoss in the first set, but it was Cibulkova all in teh second and raced to a 2-0 lead in the third, but in the end, Capriati was the main winner today...Congrats!

Gold Coast(AP)--She overcame blowing a one set lead rather stellarly. Jennifer Capriati, a lucky loser, went and upset Dominika Cibulkova after being down 0-2 in the third set. Capriati, elated, went into the interview room today with a beaming smile.
Moderator: Any questions for Miss Capriati?
Q: Jennifer, going into todays match, and knowing you were a lucky loser in the draw, did you feel any kind of pressure?
Capriati: No...you know, I just played my game and it, like, came together. Being down 0-2 in that final set, it was, you know, like I wasn't going to go down without a fight and she didn't seem to have the mental strategy to keep up.
Q: Are you saying that your opponent today is mentally fragile?
Capriati: I wouldn't say that. I'm just saying, that, you know, she had her chances and she, she was dominating in that second set. Like, I was lucky to even get a crack at the first set, and that tiebreak really showed how tough it was to pull that set out. But then, you know, I had a mental letdown. It's like Dad used to say...if they slip, punch 'em in the mouth...hard.
Q: Jennifer, the conditions today were some of the worst that this tournament has ever had, and towards the end of the match it was drizzling. I notice you lost your focus at 5-2, 40-0 and let Dominika get back to deuce. How tough was it playing in a drizzle?
Capriati: It was tough, it really was. It was at night, and I've, you know, never had like, the eyes for night time and then the drizzle was so unexpected. I just tried to rush and get off the court, but, like, you know, um...it's like...I couldn't quite keep the focus there.
Q: Your serve saved you today. Have you been working on that shot?
Capriati: Yeah, I mean...um...you know, my serve has been such a liability in the past, and you know, I was trying to work it in the offseason. Um...you know, it's like, you know...it's getting better.
Q: How many times are you going to say um, you know, and like in this interview?
Capriati: (laugh) Oh, um...sorry. It's just, you know, it's like a habit that I haven't sort of grown out of since I was fourteen. You know, things that you do for a while...they stick with you.

Serena Off To Great Australian Start
At this week's season-opener, the Mondial Australian Open, Serena Williams of the US has gotten of to a great start, by reaching the semifinals.
Her quest to the title began rather easily as Flavia Pennetta of Italy withdrew before their opening match. Then she followed that up with a tightly contested quarterfinal match Urkraine's Alona Bondarenko where Williams advanced in straight sets. Up next for Williams in her quest for the first title of the season, is a semifinal clash against Serbian Jelena Jankovic.
"It's really exciting to do so well, thusfar," said Williams. "I still have two more matches to win, but I'm optimistic. I just hope I can do what I need to do, and the rest will take care of itself."

Tathiana Garbin def. Jennifer Capriati 3-6,6-4,7-5
What a match from Tathiana! Very impressive performance, but Jennifer was basically destroying her until Tathiana realzied at 5-0 in the third that she needed to step it up, and that's how she did it, but can she claim the first tournament over the year over Jelena Jankovic? We shall see!

What a way to end the first tournament of the season! Both played a fantastic match, but I have to give credit to Tahtiana who was behind in the first set, but pulled a 5-0 lead in the second set, before she just ran out of gas. Congrat to our first champion and world number one Jelena Jankovic? Can he pull it off again in Sydney?
dAdEx Jul 30th, 2007, 08:56 PM OMG  Jelenka :hearts:
dementievavenus Jul 31st, 2007, 04:31 AM DAMN IT!!! SHOOT! I didn't think that I'd have a lead and lose! CRAP! At least I know the points are pretty good, though.
