The world no.3 Russian tennis player had a really great last season, but now she can't win any matches...
"Yeah, I know I was one of the best in the last season therefore I don't know why am I in a bad shape."

The blonde Russian a couple of week ago played semis in the YEC, right, she won only one match in round robin. Nowdays she play so badly and she injured in her last match.
"I know I want to win and win therefore my healthy bomcomes worse. We [with Anastassia Rodionova] played at Team Cup in Antwerpen. We're a really good friends and I love Anastassia. :) Our first round was really hard, but we can win. But the next... we lost :sad: "
"We played a doubles match and I had a bad fall and injured my right knee. - said Dementieva. - Doctors told me that probably I have to miss Kuala Lumpur altought there I was the defending champ. I'm trainig now, and I hope I can play in Malaysia."

Elena Dementieva after the interview flew to Moscow and wants to sleep more and more.

On Thursday at 7 PM will take a press conference where Elena will decide to play or not.

'I feel really refreshed and ready for the new season. I reached the world number 1 spot last season and that was a dream come true but after that I became as flat as a pancake but a nice break and not playing exhibition and only practise has helped I think. My aim this season is to finally win Wimbledon afte Sveta retired and to regain the number 1 spot. The tour has made some hgue changes and I personally dont agree with them but I have to follow the rules and play within them.'

Kuala Lumpur, MAS -- After deciding to skip the exhibition events during the off-season, world number 6 Lindsay Davenport has declared herself 'ready to go' ahead of the third season on the WFTC Tour.

'I know missing [Antwerpen and Los Angeles] has possibly put me at a slight disadvantage, as I haven't yet adapted to the changes on the tour, but I'm going to be on the practice court a lot in the next few days in preparation for the Malaysian Open. I had a very relaxing break; spending time with my family and friends after a long year was a welcome relief.'

'My primary goal for this year is to win a Grand Slam, or at least get to the quarters of one (laughs). I'm appalled by my record last season. Okay, losing to the eventual champion in 3 of the 4 events is fine, but all my losses were in the second round. That's just not good enough.'

This is your only preparation for the Australian Open,do you think that is enough?

Nicole : Honestly i played alot the past month you know. Won 2 Exhibition tournaments and then had my marriage so you know its been a long month and i need a break for sure. After this tournament il have a week of honeymoon and then just practising for the Open. So i think even i play here only in KL,the surface is the same as the Open and the tempature and the humidity is almost the same too. Sure I think my preparation is fine. It all also depends on the draw but you know I think when I play my best I know I can compete with the best.
Do you think winning the China Open last year has improve your confidence?

Nicole : For sure you know. I beat Kuznetsova the world number one then and Sharapova also. They are tough players and I beat them so i must have played well but I couldnt really sustain the level for the whole indoor season which was a pity. This season im very focused and Im picking my tournaments. I dont want to be those players who plays all the tournaments and end up not peaking at the right time. I feel like if i can play my best at certain tournaments I can be higher ranked but rankings are not something I look at. I just want to play my match and fight and win. I think mentally I was off and Ivanovic was really good at Antwerp final which i lost 2-6 0-6 . But winning the title indeed helped my confidence coming here. I have at least three to four days of rest and im definately resting. No practising even

Nicole : No, not at all. Just working a little bit on my fitness and doing massages. Thats about it. I will start hitting the tennis ball just a day before my match. Ive played alot the past month because I choose to. Some players decide to take the time off but not me. But im ready for a battle in this tournament.

Hows life being a married lady now?

Nicole : Its fine. I love it.

Is it true that you were paid $500 0000 just on appereance fee for this tournament and that is why you choose to be here and not the upcoming tournaments?

Nicole : I think that question is for my manager. But I really want to play KL when I saw the schedule and I handpicked the tournaments i want to play. Ive informed the tour director which is my husband Yuri, the tournaments i will play for the rest of the season. I think about 12-13. I cant quite remember but definately KL,Melbourne,Warsaw,Paris, Birmingham,Eastbourne,Wimbledon,Dubai,San Diego, New York, Zurich, Moscow and Quebec City.

Maria Sharapova admitted that she was not 100% ready for the upcoming Petronas Malaysian Open in a press conference today. The Russian, ranked #2 in the world, made appearences at the McDonald's exhibition and Vaidisova's wedding but failed to show up for the team exo in Antwerp. Sharapova admits she is worried about the seriousness of her injury but promised to play the event regardless.

"Right now my shoulder is very sore and I'm struggling to serve without pain. I can play but it doesn't feel good and I'm not 100%, I'd say at best 75%. But I made a commitment and I don't want to break it. I might not play my best or win a match but I'm here for the fans and the tour. I hope I will be able to heal soon and be in fit condition for the Australian Open, where I am the defending champ."

After a dissapointing couple of exhibitons and a fabuolous wedding, Tamarine is getting to buisness. "I want to be number one and win all the grand slams," she says eagerly. "When i got slammed by Rodionova and Kournikova, i needed to train, but when I beat Harkleroad esily, I was like this is pretty cool." in the Mcdonald's cup she went 1-2 and got third place beating Harkleroad 6-3,7-5. Then lost to Anastassia Rodionova 6-1,6-0 and Anna Kournikova 6-0,6-0, she then went to Antwerpen and lost to Alicia Molik 6-3,6-0 and lost a doubles match with Anna Kournikova 2-6,6-3,6-2. "I hope i can win ehre in Kuala Lumpur, it is a great city, great site and a great tour runner!. I can't wait!"

After rain washed out the first day of play in WFTC's third season at the Petronas Malaysian Open, the first and second rounds were both completed today. Marion Bartoli, an unseeded beginner, struggled to overcome Lucie Safarova in her first match, but eventually worked past the ball bashing Czech starlet 6-4 7-6 (4).

"I felt very solid today. The first match is challenging, but I did a good job to take control of the points and make sure I was the one moving her around."

In her second round match, Bartoli faced off against sixth seeded Anna Kournikova of Russia, who proved to be too much for the Frenchwoman.

"It was a good experience to get to play against someone with so much game today. She was clearly the better player on the day but I fought very well at the end of the second set. I think that if I just tighten up a few areas of my game, I can do much better in the coming weeks at some more important tournaments."

Sharapova Wins in Malaysia

Maria Sharapova, despite an strained pectoral muscle, was able to win her first match at the Malaysian Open, when she defeated the fiesty Israelite Shahar Peer 6-4 3-6 6-4 in a tight match. The two exchanged groundstrokes from the baseline for most of the match but it was the Russian's power who saw her through. Sharapova never called for the trainer but grimaced a few times throughout the match. On matchpoint she sent a powerful ace skidding the back edge of the service line to advance.

"It was a good match today for sure, I'm definetely happy with the way I'm playing. Shahar is a fiesty player but I felt ready I could take advantage if her level every dropped. She played great in the second but not as good in the other sets and I was ready. The pec is ok, I didn't feel too much pain out there. I got a lot of good treatment from the doctors and riding on Yuran's wank relieved a lot of tension. Right now I'm just focusing on my form, because this injury is only a bit of discomfort."

Kaula Lumpur, MAS -- Lindsay Davenport moved into the semi-finals of the season's inaugural event with a confident 6-3 2-6 6-4 victory over world number 2 Maria Sharapova. Both ladies traded ferocious groundstrokes in an entertaining encounter, but Davenport served the better of the two, firing down 9 aces and no double faults. She finished with the match with yet another service winner.

'This is a good win for me,' said Lindsay. 'I know Maria was a little hampered by her injury, but it was still a close match and I thought we both hit some great shots. You know, even though it's only a Tier III, I consider this tournament important for me as I've had to adapt to the tour changes. Fortunately the transition has been smooth so far (smiles).'

Davenport will take on Tatiana Golovin in the semi-finals.

'She's probably the most dangerous unseeded player around, so it'll be a difficult match, for sure. I'm just looking to get as much match practice as possible ahead of the Australian Open.'
