I saw Julia Lutrova playing in the National Club League finals at West Hants Club last year. Although, she spends a lot of time in Siberia, coaching! Good player, I think she has had a world ranking.

I'm sure this has been answered many times, but could somebody explain to me about how these tourneys work?

Do they receive prizemoney, etc?

What is the main incentive for players to compete here? I ask this as I see a few foreigners in the list.

Thanks a lot. :wavey:

they get prizemoney , but not much.

usually players ranked about 500-1100 use it to warm up for a series of 10k events in britain, or if they are bakc from injury to get soem mathc practice.

you get points for reaching various rounds. teh person wiht most points at end of year gets some more money.

Thanks, I was also wondering how good these players are compared to the top WTA players:).
And now I know:wavey:
Is this the sort of event that an interviewer suggested that Kournikova should take part in?

lol no.

this is for very poor players who arent making any money on tour.
often alot of young girls play 20 down, who are just about to try and enter some 10k's about teh place and just looking for competitive matches.

they really are non-events in terms of the player on main tour.

The highest ranked player that usually plays is about 600 or so. Occasionaly u get higher (such as Keothavong here) but normally it wil eb won buy someone ranked 800-1100 or by a total newcomer.

Anna K wouldnt be coaught dead here. she wouldnt loose a point, never minda game.

That's what I mean.
An interviewer suggested to Kournikova that maybe she should do a few challenger tournys to get into the winning spirit.
She almost laughed.
Agassi dropped down to get confidence didn't he?

The thing is Paul, they plug the gaps between the British challengers. For the lower ranked British players, they may not consider it financially viable to fly abroad for one week for a $10k.
Also the top 4 players in the British tour bonus points table (only open to players 21 or under, although any age of player can enter the tournament itself) qualify for the British National Championships in Horwich, Bolton at the end of October.
So, it's really most valuable for the juniors looking to gain experience, such as Melissa Gibb and Alice MacKenzie.
