Zurich, SUI -- Lindsay Davenport hasn't enjoyed a great deal of success lately. The American did not put together a particularly good hard court season, which is supposedly her best surface, and she endured another second round loss last week to kick off her indoor campaign. But she's managed to reach a quarter-final here, defeating Maria Kirilenko 1-6 6-2 7-6(2) in the Zurich Open yesterday.

'It has been quite tough for me recently,' said Lindsay in her post-match interview. 'I haven't gone deep in tournaments often enough for my liking in the past few weeks, so I'm more relieved than anything to get to the last 8 here. I probably played my best tennis in the tiebreak; I was just eager to win two matches in a row (laughs).'

'I've been on the tour for a year now, and I've had a lot of fun. Obviously the highlight was winning the title in Berlin. I think I've underperformed in the Slams, but I'm still ranked in the top 8 and I'm pretty confident in qualifying for the Year Ending Championships.'

Italian Francesca Schiavone beat US Open champion Alicia Molik 7-6(1),4-6;6-1 in the semifinal of Zurich Open and will face WFTC No. 1 Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia. It will be their second meeting after Schiavone won the first in Vancouver quarterfinal in tough three sets.

Zurich,SUI-Francesca Schiavone from Italy won her second title today after beating WFTC No. 1 Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia in straight sets- 7-6(4);6-2. It was their second clash, and probably the last one, because Sveta announced her (unofficial) retirement after the final. :awww:
