Nicole Vaidisova the newcomer has again won her first round match and this time she had to do it the hard way by defeating Belgian star Kim Clijsters. Nicole has never lost a first round match since arriving to the tour but has never won 2 matches in a row. That will definately be a challenge for her as she will now face American tower Lindsay Davenport in the 2nd round.

Nicole hit a shot during her match against Lindsay

Guangzhou,CHINA. Czech senastion Nicole Vaidisova proved to be too strong for the American as she prevailed 6-3 2-6 6-2 to set up a mouth watering clash against the hard hitter Ana Ivanovic. Nicole started the match so well by going to a 3-0 lead with a break. However from then on she couldnt break Lindsay's serve until the 3rd and final set. When she had her chance to break Lindsay she took it and it was smooth sailing from then on.

"Im quite happy but I feel my game is still not up there with the best. Im improving as every tournament goes by so Im quite happy to be winning 2 matches in a row this week. Against Ana i just have to hit deep and hard and hope I can win" said Nicole.

Maria Sharapova rallied from a set and a break down to defeat Tatiana Panova 4-6 7-6(4) 6-3 in the Guangzhou quarterfinals advancing to her second consecutive semifinal. The two have had no problems admitting their discontent towards each other but Sharapova leads the H2H 3-0, and in both of their other meetings she went on to win the title [Birmingham & Australian Open.] In the semifinals, Sharapova will take on impressive newcomer Nicole Vaidisova.

"I'm quite happy to win this match for obvious reasons. Tatiana is a fiesty little thing, and to beat her you really have to go the distance. Luckily for me, I always feel ready for what she will bring. She puts forth so much effort, I almost feel bad when she is sprinting and snorting like a dog to get to all my shots. I know that I play Nicole next, and I know her quite well actually. She's younger than me, and I've known her since we were young. She's definetely got game, so I'll have to be prepared."
