Stephanie Dubois took a final decision about her career on the WWTT, she decided it was too much, results aren't coming at all since a very long time, around 3 weeks ago, she has been very frustrated against the tour director who gave Marion Bartoli a very late WC and didn't give her any seeding cause he didn't want to change the draw even if Marion would have been seeded 3rd or even higher and played Dubois who also was seeded in first round even if she was 3rd seed, so in fact two players who should both have been seeded met in the very beginning of the tournament even if technically they probably couldn't have been in the same half of the draw if they would have been seeded 3rd and 4th. Us Open will probably be my last tournament in single and if Makiri really wants break our partnership in doubles I won't stay on the tour and quit after the US Open."

Dubois finally breaks through!

Stephanie Dubois who seemed kinda bored of this tour these last months with pretty ordinary results was awaited to keep struggling ,at this 4th Grand Slam of the year, and just fall in second round in single, have a great showing in doubles and lose in first round mixed doubles like her and Peter always do. Plus, Stephanie Dubois said at the beginning of the week that with bad organization of some tournaments combined to her bad results, chances for her to retire at the end of the season or after the Us Open were only bigger and bigger.

But this week was an unexpected one for Stephanie Dubois until here! Dubois showed she still had the passion and that little something that usually makes the difference in the important matches. Dubois is still alive in the three events and it's not because she had cake draw! Steph also admitted that the fact that the directors of the tour finally stopped talking and passed into "action" mode really gave her some new interest to the tour!

In single first round, Stephanie Dubois had a BYE cause she was 8th seed but all the fans of Dubois were scared that this tournament could be the last in which one Steph would be seeded. Dubois played Margalita Chakhnashvili in second round, her opponent also was well rested as her first round opponent withdrew. This match was tight only in the final set, Steph took the first 6-3 but lost her momentum in the second set and gave it to her Georgian opponent by the score of 2-6. In the third set both girls fought hard, they both played point by point and it was a good thing for them. Dubois had a MP on Margalita's serve at 5-4, 40-30*, but Chakhnashvili stormed back with an ace and then held. Then we went to 6-6 but the TB was Dubois's story, Margalita ran off gas and Dubois just played very solid baseline tennis and finished a lot of points at the net and took the tie break 7-1. Final score was 6/3 2/6 7/6(1).

In QF, Dubois had her biggest challenge since a long time ago, Na Li, first seed. Na Li was on fire at the beginning of this match, in the first set she kept on going her winning streak games, after winning 7 games in arrow to close her second round match, Na Li gave a bagel to Stephanie Dubois and increase her impressive streak to 13 games in arrow. Dubois finally found her momentum in the second set, both girls held untill 4-4 but Dubois broke Li at the right time and then held to take the second set 6-4. The third set was the most unexpected scenario we could wait. Stephanie Dubois was a transformed player, we never saw her play like this since her very very first tournaments, she gave a bagel to the world number 1, Na Li, to attempt the SF, final score was 0/6 6/4 6/0.

The two doubles event are just big bonuses for the Canadian. Dubois still plays with her eternal partner and best friend Maria Kirilenko, even if Dubois said at beginning of the week she didn't know if Kirilenko still was sure she wanted to play with her, but girls made the right choice with continuing to play together. Dubois and her Russian teammate didn't have to play a lot to attempt that GS final. Dubois and Kirilenko had a Bye in first round, won by W/O in the second but then played the 4th seed in the SF but they still were the favorite to win as they are 2nd seed. Kirilenko played an awesome match as she also is determinated to win this week and her single results also show she plays very great. Dubois and Kirilenko were under pressure during all the match as they weren't crowd's favorite cause they played an all amercan team (Venus Williams and Ashely Harkleroad). Girls played a TB in the first set, in which one Krilenko and Dubois really dominated and won 7-1. Second set was the thing of the American girls team, they used all opportunities Dubois and Kirilenko gave them to win it 6-3. The third set went to 5-5 and Harkleroad was on serve and down *30-40, Kirilenko on return, Makiri made an unbelivable crosscourt forehand return and Harkleroad didn't event had time to run it and they were broken, Dubois then held to acess to the final!

Stephanie Dubois and Peter Polansky surprinsingly have a lot of sucess this week in the mixed double event. "Polansky is young and brings something special to our team" said Dubois after their second round win. Polanksy and Dubois started their tournament on a bad not after being bagelled by the qualifier Chakhnashvili and Labadze. The all Canadian team didn't take a lot of time to show their true value and then bagelled back the qualifier team. In the third set, Chakhnashvili and Labadze went up 3-1 but then totally choked and the two young Canadians won 5 straight games to set up a second round match against the favorite of the tournament.

Second round meeting was agianst Serena Williams and Pete Sampras, twovery big incons of the American Tennis. The two first sets were identics as the first round matches of Peter and Steph as they got bagelled and then bagelled the American team. The third set was very tight! The teams went to a tie break, the Canadian team went up 4-1 but choked that lead and the American team came back and even to the lead at 4-5. The surprising Canadian team didn't choke and showed to Reena and Pete they were not impressed, Dubois even made an ace against againt Pete Sampras to tight the things at 5-5. The Canadians then didn't look behind and won the TB 7-5, final score was 0/6 6/0 7/6(5)

The tightest match of Peter and Steph was in SF against Bogomolov Jr. and Harkleroad. The first set was a shaky one from both team but when it came down to the most important moment, the tie break, the Canadian team was stronger mentally and showed no weaknesses and they easily took it 7-1. Second set went to the American team, with the help of their crowd, which Dubois and Polansky found a little bit unrespectful as some fans where screaming when the Canadians where trying to serve and things like that. The Americand took the set 4-6 but it wasn't enough to stop the determination of Polansky and Dubois, the Candians took the third 7-5 and Stephanie Dubois even cried on the field, two finals and a SF in one week is unbelievable!

In a very short phone interview Dbois said to us "This is just so great, I really have the impression my tennis is 10 times better than what it was one week ago. The mental is there, my game is there ... my family is there! Last weekend I would have laugh if someone would have tell me your gonna make it to SF of the single event and I made a lot more so, I didn't surprised the onther but myself too! I really hope I can win at least a title this week!"

Woot Seles is in the Finals of both Doubles and Mixed Doubles!
