The grass season has seen 3 different winners for every tournament. Maria Sharapova won Tier III Birmingham, capturing just her second title. Ana Ivanovic, season 2 race leader, proved her good shape with title in 's-Herktogenbosch. And finally, Tatiana Golovin, being coached by Benesova's previous trainer, as unranked WC won Tier I Eastbourne. Whom can people expect to win? It's impossible to say before first matches played.

There were some consistant players during grass courts. Grass player Tatiana Panova reached two finals, in Birmingham and Eastbourne. Tatiana could take Birmaingham title and she had plenty of match points but was too unlucky and lost to Maria Sharapova. Svetlana Kuznetsova, who is still recovering from ankle injury which forced her to withdrew from Birmingham, also showed great tennis with two straight semifinals and just few shots away from finals. Lindsay Davenport, who enjoys her career high now, also shined during warm-up events.

There are a plenty of dark horses. Kim Clijsters, Gabriela Sabatini, Urszula Radwanska, Anna Kournikova, Elena Dementieva, Amelie Mauresmo, Bethaie Mattek, Ashley Harkleroad and many others.
Urszula Radwanska's place in the draw is still in question. Urszula looked very disappointed after her second round loss in Eastbourne and she mentioned in her interview an option of retirement. Bethanie Mattek confirmed for Wimbledon ''after all or nothing'' tournament in Eastbourne, where she was able to repeat her career best result.
Mostly likely Magdalena Rybarikova and Martina Muller spend their last event in London. The tour will miss them.

Today during a press conference Urszula Radwańska announced her retirement from WFTC. She said that Wimbledon will be her last tournament: "It's a very sad day for me because Wimbledon will be my last tournament in the WFTC tour. From this place I wanna say sorry for Ana Ivanović who was my doubles partner during second season. It was great to met so many great players like Sveta, Kim, Ana and Tatiana but I had to do it due some personal reasons. Only what I can for sure say that I'll be back. I wanna also thanks the fans who were cheering me when I had bad results. Last but not least I wanna thanks the tour manager, Yuran. He was and is doing great job with all those tournaments. So thanks and BYE!!!

Sharapova Advances at Wimbledon!

Maria Sharapova booked her ticket in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon today when she defeated former doubles partner and good friend Jamea Jackson 6-4 6-4 on Center Court. The Russian faced troubles throughout the match as the pesky American contributed her agility to an entertaining match. In fact, Jackson beat Sharapova just last week in 's-Hertogenbosch in straight sets, but here at Wimbledon Sharapova showed more determination to escape a similar fate.

"I knew she was tough, because we have known each other for a long time. We used to play doubles together and she's always been a fighter. I knew she would probably bring at me some really tough shots if I let her into the match so I tried to shut the door as quickly as possible."

Sharapova finished the match with 19 winners and 26 unforced errors, while Jackson settled with 8 winners and 9 unforced errors. It wasn't always high quality as Jackson double-faulted on matchpoint, but the crowd showed their respect as the Russian exited the most famous court in all of tennis in stylish fashion. She will next face the winner of Kirilenko or Sabatini. At the Australian Open Sharapova saved 14 matchpoints in an everlasting epic that saw her rally from 5-0 in the third and 6-0 in the tiebreak.

"Tomorrow will be tricky, I expect Gaby to come out that match because I do not know anything about Kirilenko. Sabatini is very tough, she's so creative on the court, you just have to be patient because she can make some errors. I'm just happy to be in the Top 10 and have a good seeding, I think I'm a top 5 player and my goal is to reach the quarterfinals, but if I meet the bulldog [Panova] then of course I will be fighting for a semifinal ;)"
