In what was one of the best matches of the year, Homecrowd favourite Venus Williams prevailed over the new #1. Shuai was close to victory but with this new burden on her shoulders did it play a part? Good chance the #1 ranking will change back to Monica or possibly Na.

Plain and simple. SHES BACK! The former #1 who has been out for a long time shows that she wants her ranking back ASAP. She was agressive and never let her doubles partner into the match.

Back to the surface where she won the Australian Open is always going to make her one of the favourites. Ash seemed to get going a bit too late.

Another amazing match right here! Everyone thought Monica who is back onto her favourite surface and with the homecrowd on her side, she would cruise. Severine had other plans, and shows that she will be a dangerous floater over the US Open Series. Tomorrows match against Na could decide #1.

'Wow - I didnt expect such a great return to the tour! Elena is a great friend of mine and of course my doubles partner but I dont think she expected me to come back like that! I got a little tired in the second set but I suppose thats expected for your first match back. Next up is Venus who shocked Peng but I am ready for her!'

Marion slowly and painfully faded away in the end. But it is to be expected in her comeback tournament, watch for improvement in the coming weeks. Venus has continued her run of form and is amazingly now into the final!

Na seems to be extremely happy to be back on the hardcourts. She probably played her best match of the year to beat Monica this convincingly. Na could move back to #1 if she defeats Venus in the final.

What a final! Venus takes home her 2nd career title in amazing fashion. Upsetting the 1, 3 and 4 seeds. Na played well this week but just fell short. Its going to be a tight race to see who will be #1 after this week between Na, Shuai and Monica.
