Here is a little article Mike
http://sport.uzreport.com/tennis.cgi?lan=e&id=18202 Thanks.

For some reason they spelt Iri's surname Tulyaganov :confused:They’ve mistakenly used Iroda’s fathers / family surname ‘Tulyaganov’. It’s a Russian / Uzbek custom to add an ‘a’ on the end for daughters surnames, but for sons it remains ‘Tulyaganov’. Doesn’t explain why they made the mistake…

Keep going Iri, it would be great for you to get that wildcard since I am going to the Oz Open next year :)Yeah, if nothing else, a WC will be great motivation to train for next year. :bounce:

Oh yeah.

Hasn't palyed anyway else though since Dubai 2005.

Please, please, please Iroda win against Chan. Chan's a good player and has good power but she has nothing else. It'd be her 1st slam since Wimby 2003
She play Tashkent 04 and 05 and Dubai 05 like nothing please win it Iroda :scared:

So do Chan/Chuang get a doubles WC or is the WC only for the singles event?

Babolatpro880

Scratch that. Chan/Chuang have been good for a long time, so they probably wouldn't need a doubles WC anyway.

Just dug up some facts on Iroda’s opponent Yung-Jan Chan. She’s only 17, but has already won 5 ITF titles (3 x $25k, 2 x $50k). Also qualified for Wimbledon (2006 > 1R) and US Open (2005 > 1R).

H2H Stats:

Percentage of games won over games lost, for this tournament:
(YJC had a 1R bye, so both calculated from 2R to semis = 3 rounds)

YJC: W42 v L22 = 91% more games won

IT: W44 v L29 = 52% more games won

Comfortable lead for YJC.

Percentage of matches won over matches lost (year-to-date):

YJC: W26 v L6 = 333% more

IT: W13 v L4 = 225% more

YJC leads again.

Chan is a very talented young player, she'll break the top 100 over the next year. She just qualified for the US Open this year. Hopefully she can get her ranking up to gain direct Australian Open entry ensuring that Iroda gets the wild card win or lose in the final.

Hopefully, if Iroda loses -which is I believe the most likely-, the same thing as in 2004 will happen, when Li Na won the tournament but then got in on her own ranking allowing Sania Mirza to get the WC.

Yung-Jan is #136 right now. A couple of good performances in the asian tournaments could take her to the top 100.

Whatever, what I'm trying to say is...GO IRODA!! :hearts:  We want you back full-time! ;)

Final (Saturday 9th September)
-----

+ IRODA TULYAGANOVA [7] d. CHAN,YUNG-JAN [1], 5-7 6-2 7-5

With this victory, Iroda has booked her main-draw wild card for the Australian Open 2007 (actually she probably only had to reach the final, as Chan,Yung-Jan is likely not to need a wild card).

If Iroda is healthy in January, it will be her first Grand Slam tournament since Wimbledon 2003!

For those who don't know Iroda, she was ranked as high as #16 in the world in June 2002. She first caught my eye as being extremely sexy, teaching me the meaning of the word "voluptuous"! :hearts:

But I soon realised that Iroda was also a powerful, exciting, versatile tennis-player, with a big serve, a searing two-handed backhand and amazing athleticism. I inducted her into my Eternal Fanship on 7th January 2002 (her 20th birthday).

Sadly, Iroda's career has been blighted by numerous injuries, including one to her right elbow that required surgery, and kept her off court from July 2003 to October 2004.

Iri has since been grinding it out on the ITF Women's Circuit without winning a title (she won three WTA Tour singles-titles in 2000/2001), and with numerous withdrawals and long periods of inactivity due to injury (she has played only four tournaments this year, excluding Fed Cup and the Asian Championships).

The WTA Tour would be that much richer if Iroda were once more a regular participant, along with Monica Seles and Jelena Dokic.

I don't think it appropriate for you to make an assumption like that.
Yung-Jan's mom pointed out there were quite a few calls which did bother her,and the crowd was also a factor, while she still took it as a great experience, showing that Chan needs to work on her emotional control and consistency.
Local news here in Taiwan also said that, which I dont think will ever come out in Uzbek papers...
I don't want to make this looks like an excuse and I think Iroda delivered an amazing tournament where we can see that she finally picks up some toughness she should have to overcome 3 top200 players.
I believe Yung-Jan lost for reasons and Iroda played really well as Soeda won over Istomin on mens side.

I love Yung-Jan that's clear,but I never deny Iroda's efforts and achievements.
So don't question my standpoint,period.
And thanks for MIKE_T for the fast results and the rational comment.(Though there could hardly be any report for that issue.)

Anyway good luck to your Iroda to kick some ass in AO and hopefully Yung-Jan can get into the MD by her own rank. :)

As long as this is held in Uzbekistan, there will be ***'s next to the winner's name if they are Uzbeki.

Hopefully Iroda takes advantage of her WC, I'd like to see her come back full time.
