'I have had a really long rest since that Ukrainian newcomer defeat me but I still know Im not 100%. I was really considering dropping down events because the level here is too high for me at the moment but I love Antwerp - its where my season turned around last year with Anastasia Myskina and I hope it does again this year. I face Angela in the opening round, so its dodgy because she is an amazing not only in doubles but also in singles but for some reason, I can always beat me, so it will be interesting to say the least'

Dementieva Weary About Chances In Antwerp
http://dementieva.ru/downloads/catimages/3625_image.jpg
Elena Dementieva tracks down a forehand during the US Open.

After an outstanding run to the final of the US Open, which included four consecutive clutch wins, Elena Dementieva finds herself at a new career high ranking of third in the world and playing a tournament where she lost first round a season ago, the LTT Diamond Classic, in Antwerp, Belgium. Despite playing what some would call the tennis of her career, Dementieva is blatantly grim about the remainder of her season.

"I almost wanted to pull out of this event, you know. It's the biggest disappoinment of my life, you know. There is only one other player who has ever lost a grand slam final after serving for it, and it's Anastasia Myskina, and she's gone. I guess I'm a choker now, you know. I am overwhelmed with sadness because, I mean, I made like three finals this year and I haven't won a title since last season. I have no confidence and my mood is sour. I don't know how I will get through this, you know, but some good wins here in Belgium would definitely help."

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3419/capt1e0c2dc0b4894c1ab3506a2a18c98954usopentennisny sw1cy2.jpg

Maria Sharapova turns up in Antwerp playing some of the best tennis of her short career she has just ome of her best showing at a Grand Slam after winning 2 matches she extended eventual Semi-Finalist Ai Sugiyama to 3 sets and is hoping that this good form will continue in her quest for glory.

"I am happy with my results recently i have ben playing solid tennis and im hoping to tweek out those sore spots i have in my game and move to the next level i know it will be hard since im playing Kirsten who will undoubtebly have the whole crowd behind her i love belgium and both kim and kirsten are such lovely people and awesome players i know how much belgium loves its tennis so i really wanna impress them tomorrow night i hope to put in a great performance here and am thankful for my Wild-Card i received from the tour managers i hope its a good omen and i get some luck and support from the belgium crowd. Sonya Jeyaselan has a new status. From a top 10 player, she bacame in one week world number 4 , Slam champion, and serious contender fopr tournaments. A perfect molment to bounce back her career , since she is this week the defending champion in Antwerp , the tournament where all serious things started for the Canadian last season . Last season, Jeyaseelan defeated Dementieva, Mauresmo and Clijsters in finals in front of the latter 's crowd, to capture her first title on LTT, also reaching the final n double for a first and unique teaming with friend Amélie Mauresmo.

Her title defense will begin on Monday , where she is to meet Belgian wild-card Justine Henin-Hardenne. In case of a win, Jeyaseelan would meet the winner of Groenefeld-Safina in the next round. If her new confidence allows her to get past those two trap matches, she could meet her doubles partner Magdalena Maleeva in quarters, a friend and player she never beat. Other favorites include crowd favorite Kim Clijsters, who is willing to show her audience she 's still the world number 1, a rank she will battle with Lindsay Davenport . Elena Dementieva, unlucky finalist to Jeyaseelan at the US Open , Silvia Elia, Patty Schnyder, Elena Bovina will be other seeds.

Golowins eyes on the ice

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/671/21237739033tati.jpg

Tatiana is playing some weird tennis.
She used to be one of the best in singles, but a few bad weeks has removed all confidence in the pretty girl. She hasn't been able to intimidate her opponents and she's not more on the court than a pretty blonde.
But at Antwerpen she can become a pretty blonde with diamonds.
C'est every fille ręve, j'ai le possibility gagner diamonds, je l'aime:hearts:

When Tati plays doubles she has much more confidence because she can rely on her partners. This is the reason why she at US Open went to the final in both doubles. But they couldn't win.

C'est un peu sad, oui, bien sur, mais la vie continues and cette week is it possible gagner diamonds and I really want diamonds. They are trés jolie.

Flipkens ready for home soil run
http://www.dhnet.be/pictures_news/art_39454.jpg
Kirsten Flipkens after a few weeks on a slow motion is ready to do well in Antwerp. She's ranked #9 in the world and is hoping to live up to her ranking as she hasn't had any convincing result since her Wimbledon title. "I'm ready, and the atmosphere in Antwerp is fabulous. I can't do anything but play well here!" Having lost in the first round of the USopen, she couldn't stay much afterwards to support her friends. "It's a shame I couldn't be there. One of my best friend Sonya won the title and I'm sad I wasn't there. I watched it from home, in the middle of the night. My coach wasn't very happy about that, but she ended up staying up with me lol"Kirsten is playing with Flavia Penneta in the doubles draw, for the first time.

Anna-Lena Eyes Improvement

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/659/ALG5.jpg

Antwerp, BEL - Coming off of a very successful week in New York, Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld arrived in Antwerp, Belgium, for the Diamond Classic with a fresh attitude and strong confidence.

The German reached the Round of 16 for the first time at the US Open last week before losing to Angela Haynes, a match that she said afterwards she should have won. Then, in the doubles event, she reached the semifinals with long-time partner Patty Schnyder before losing to the eventual champions. The same thing happened in mixed doubles, where she fell in the semis with Tommy Haas to the eventual champions.

"I feel pretty good with how I've been playing," Anna-Lena said during her pre-tournament press conference. "I feel like I've figured out how things work, and how to adjust. I'm pretty confident with my game plan and that allows me to focus on each point while I'm on the court."

The German will have a tough battle from the get-go, as she faces Russian hard-hitter Dinara Safina. The second round can be tricky, as she could play 4th-seed and US Open champion Sonya Jeyaseelan.

"I think I'm ready, for sure," she said. "I am excited, even, because who knows where this new game will take me."

Hopefully for this week, it will take her past the Round of 16 and into the Quarterfinals.

'You wouldnt believe how nice it is to win again! Coming back to Antwerp is great, I won the doubles last season and really felt like the crowd enjoys my tennis. Its the first time Steph has been here, so I showed her around and found myself having fun again. Once the draw had been made I knew it was the most important match of my life because if I was going to beat anyone here it would be Angela. I dont know why but I always do. So I talked to my coach and he said go back to plan A and beat her like you usually do and I did. I am shocked it was in straight sets but also very glad. Next up is Althea, so it will be extremely hard but it will be nice going into a match and being the youngest for a change'

Sharapova Shrieks Past Flipkens

http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/627/71633289jw6.jpg

Russian Maria Sharapova today took her biggest win off her career in what was surely the match of the day beating local hero, world #9 and Wimbledon Champion Kirsten Flipkens 7-5 3-6 7-6 in what was also the loudest match ever recorded on the rictor scale with maria's screaching coming to an absolute climax in the tiebreak.

"well what can i say other than it was an amazing atmosphere out there tonight Kirsten played unbelieveable she was hitting so many winners and i cannot believe i came back from 5-0 down in the third set it was a match i will never forget i thought to the bitter end and i can be proud to say that. Kirsten is such a fantastic person and player so i feel a little guilty for taking her out but i just couldnt let her have it. when i was down and out and the crowd was ging wild for kirsten i just remembered what my father always said for me which was to play for me and to play my best and i did that and that is why i got through today saving so many match points i just never was gonna give up i was gonna make her earn it"

Tomorrow Maria plays the #2 ranked Lindsay Davenport in what is surely going to be another fantastic match

"Losing is the hardest part of the tour. My confidence is low at the moment. I don't deserve to be playing so badly with my rank at this level. I hope I play well in Doubles but I always feel as though I let Dinara down. I hope I can win a few more matches before the end of season. Retirement is not a question but I have so many points to defend next year like Australian Open 4th Round and Wimbledon Quarter finals which I won't. I hope I can win some matches but I doubt it. I need to re-think with my coach. The thing which hurts me though is that I normally lose in 3 sets. If I lost in straight sets I would think 'ok' but the fact I lose in tougher matches is more hurtful." Aiko said in a press conference.

Looking to put her disappointing U.S. Open finish behind her, Mary Pierce had to dig deep to fight off Czech teen Nicole Vaidisova. The Frenchwoman needed nearly two and a half hours to scrape through to a 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-5 victory.

The powerful Pierce was nearly blown off the court, going down one set and a break. However, one lucky shot - a net cord - evened the second set at four apiece. She also showed her resolve, overcoming two match points in the ensuing tie-breaker, before blasting her backhand past Vaidisova.

Pierce, now ranked no. 20 - high enough to gain direct entry into this event, now faces no. 6 seed Magdalena Maleeva for a place in the quarterfinals feels she needs to improve if she wants to rekindle her summer hardcourt form.

"Believe me, this is not how I wanted to start out a tournament, but it is what it is. Committing forty something errors was not what I had in mind. But, Nicole played well. I just was able to get some control over my shots. I think I can do damage here. I have the game for indoors. Maggie is a top player and amazingly consistent. She has a good game for indoors, so I need to be more aggressive and play up to her level."

Pierce is shooting for her first ever doubles title. She and Russian Vera Dushevina have entered as a team.

"Vera, as you all know is a very dangerous player. She's won two titles...I should know, she beat me in one of those finals. She's quite irritating and entertaining, :p while I'm kind of low-key...hopefully we can claim victory here."

Sharapova Downs Davenport

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/649/71544755cc035acuraclassic0802001024x768tx4.jpg

Russian Maria Sharapova took out her second consecutive Top 10 player of the tournament this time defeating World #2 Lindsay Davenport 7-6 7-6 for a spot in the Quarter-Finals and a matchup with another Top Tenner Russian Rival & #8 Seed Elena Bovina

"I love this place the atmosphere is fantastic i think that was one of my best matches so far i started very badly in the first set and im glad i came back from 0-4 i think my fighting spirit got me through this one today lindsay is without a doubt an amzing striker of the ball she hits so many winners but i think today i hit the ball harder and more accurate i have ever in my life. i know tomorrow will be another tough match against Bovina she is such a nice girl and im glad to have her on the tour shes so sweet and never says a bad word about anyone so it will be tough to beat her but i think im capable and will fight to the end"

Maria finished todays match with 41 winners to 23 unforced errors while lindsay had 33 winners to 26 unforced errors

Maria plays the evening match for third night in a row and hopes her good luck continues.

Althea is so a legend and really battled hard today but I put as much spin as I could on the ball and managed to come away witht the victory. Next up is Domachowska and she hits the ball a ton and has been playing great tennis but Im feeling better and better with each win so everything is good.

On the Way Out?
Davenport Doesnt Get the Diamonds

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/507/lindsay8.jpg
Once a top contender for every title on tour, is the American Veteran losing her strong grasp on her tennis?

Current World number 2 Lindsay Davenport fell to young Russain Wild card 7-6 7-6 in only the second round of the Diamond Games today. In front of a packed Belgian crowd the former Wimbledon Champion seemed out of sorts and dumbfounded, and failed to counter the powerful shots coming from the opposing side. "It definetly feels weird. Iv struggled lately thats for sure. I felt like a davourite for the US Open and then to lose like that was awful. Anytime I step on a court now its right there in the back of my mind, although Im proffesional enough to not let it affect me that much, I find myself thinking about it during the change of ends".

Her unexpected 2-6 6-4 6-4 loss to a wildcard on Arthur Ashe stadium only two weeks ago was her second first round defeat at the US Open. She lost in three sets to Anne Kremer in Seaon 1's Open. "To lose hurts. To lose in a grand Slam hurts. To lose in a Grand Slam on home turf doesnt hurt.....its kills"

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/507/lindsay5.jpg
Davenport explains that her US Open Round 1 loss [above] is still hurting her performance.

Last Season, the American reached the semi-finals in Antwerp, losing in three tight sets to Belgian Kim Clijsters. This year, after coming through a tricky first round match where she won the final point on a lucky net cord, she loses a lot of ranking points because of her second round loss, and when a player is chasing for the number 1 spot it doesnt bold well to lose many points. "Im ok about losing points. I really dont feel like the world number 1 right now so I really hope it doenst happen. I would dread it if they released the rankings and I was at the top. Its a cringeing feeling."

Davenport is still without a singles title this season. Desipte winning three titles in doubles, including the Australian Open with friend Martina Hingis, Davenport has not been able to secure a singles title. She has reached many semi-finals as well as three finals however has not been able to jump the final hurdle. With the season drawing to a close over the next few weeks, Davenports chances of ending the title with a slam to her name are well and truly over, but her chances of winning a title of still there, despite being slim.

http://www.sportinglife.com/pictures/general/davenportdepressed04.jpg
Davenport is unsure what the future holds for her, but she definetly wants a change in what is happening now.

"In my current form I doubt I would make a quater-final nevermind a final. I hate the fact that Im doubting myself and saying that I am struggling, but hopefully if I admit it then I can make some much needed changes. Im so used to winning that losing is hard, even in these close matches like today. I felt like I should have had the upper hand, and the Lindsay Davenport of Season 1 would have closed this match out in straight sets with ease, but times have certainly changed, I just need to try and change with them."

Davenport has secured her place in the top 16 for the Year End Champinships in Madrid, however is more focused on her tennis form rather than tournaments. "I want to find me footing again, thats all. For this past month I have been so close the number 1 spot and winning a title that my concentration has taken a back seat, and that is never good. I want my game back, hopefully sooner rather than later".

Her road ahead looks to be a difficult one, however with much experience under her belt Davenport seems to be the best contender for it.

'Scary Mary' Rallies To the Quarters!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/577/0401.jpg
Mary Pierce dodged a major bullet. Down 2-5 in the third set to no. 6 Maggie Maleeva, Pierce had no other choice but go for the lines. Maleeva's precision and retrieving abilities had gotten the best of Pierce's meticulous and conservative approach.

At 30-30 on Maleeva's serve, Pierce cracked a forehand down the line, setting up a break point. However, the feisty Bulgarian fired an ace to even it up at deuce. One forehand handed her one match point. Then something went off in Pierce as she outslugged Maleeva on the next three points - on three winners.

From that point on, Pierce didn't relent, hitting eight more winners and taking the last five games for the 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 victory.

The Frenchwoman now faces German Anna-Lena Groenefeld, who defeated newly-minted U.S. Open champ Sonya Jayaseelan for a semifinal berth.

"Honestly, this one of those matches that...I don't know how to describe it...where I just said 'okay, that's enough messing around let's just go all out.' And I pretty much did. I mean, Maggie is one of the smartest players out there. Indoors she brings something I can't (defense) and I bring something she can't (power). So, it was an adventure. I didn't panic, I won those five games in a blur. I mean, everything just clicked and turned so quickly for me.
That second set was the same way, except...well, I lost. To get through this match is huge for me. Anna is one of the most streaky players on tour. She has talent, but has had some rotten luck too. So, it should be a close one."

Unfortunately, Mary's quest for that elusive doubles title will have to wait another week. She and Russian Vera Dushevina lost their first round match to
Marta Domachowska and Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 7-6(1).

"I eventually want to win a doubles title, for sure. It seems everyone has but myself, I do need to work on that part of the game. Vera's a little sad, but we're out. I can only focus on singles now - and putting my little ones to bed when I get back to my hotel."

Spectacular Play Leads ALG to Quarters

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/659/20060828_22_71664136rb115_2006_us_open_.jpg

Antwerp, BEL - Anna-Lena Groenefeld accomplished what she set out to do at the beginning of this week: Reach the Quarterfinals. She achieved this with a 6-4 4-6 6-4 over recently crowned US Open champion Sonya Jeyaseelan in the Round of 16.

"Today was just -- wow," the German exclaimed. "I can't believe I beat someone of this calibur. Sure I beat Kim before, but Sonya was coming off of a slam win and I beat her!"

The calibur of play sure was high, as both players were unrelectant to give up an inch of the baseline. The scoreline showed that, as one break made the difference in each set.

"Sonya played a great match," Groenefeld said. "She fought hard, and I had to dig really deep to pull it out in the third."

The German now attempts to reach her second career semifinal in a quarterfinal blockbuster match of big babes. She will play France's Mary Pierce, a strong newcomer and a player who has been dubbed as having a lot of potential.

"Tomorrow should be very fun," Anna-Lena said. "It will be a tough match of hard-hitters, and whoever pulls out of it tomorrow will surely have deserved it."

"I just hope it'll be me."

Anna-Lena also kept up her recent doubles success, reaching the quarterfinals with partner Patty Schnyder on a 7-5 4-6 6-4 win over Jennifer Capriati and Maria Sharapova. They advance to a quarterfinal showing against Venus Williams and Ana Ivanovic, a sure-to-be difficult match, but an entertaining one at that.

"You know, I have to give Patty all the credit," she said. "She's worked hard, and we win because she strategizes everything and she stays on top of things. Whatever happens tomorrow, we will have had a great resurgence thanks to her."

Dubois sets up sixth meeting with Clijsters

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060817/capt.5c4a7cc966af48e3800b5c6e3918a530.canada_roger s_cup_tennis_pch119.jpg

Young canadian Stephanie Dubois has once again proved that she is improving on the tour by beating 8th seed Patty Schnyder and surprising WC Jennifer Capriati back-to-back to reach the quarterfinals in Antwerp, Belgium.

Playing her second full calendar on the tour, Dubois surprised a lot of players this year by being able to win more matches than in the past. Indeed, despite having a stellar doubles year with Farina-Elia in Season 1, Dubois lacked the spark to be a constant threat in singles. But things have changed, and they keep on improving.

After fighting well in both her matches, she set up a match with first-seed and best player in the world Kim Clijsters, whom she faced so many times already. The thing is, Clijsters owns Dubois, to say the least. In one of the most one-sided head-to-head of the tour, Dubois has lost 5 consecutive matches to Clijsters, including a tough loss in Fed Cup earlier this year. Despite this fact, Dubois is stepping on court confident, and as she says: "I'm stepping on court to win, not to lose."

In doubles, Farina-Elia and Dubois were unseeded for the first time in more than one year. When the draw came out and they saw that they would face the second seeds (Bovina/Kuznetsova), let's say that they were excited to proove everyone that they still deserved to be ranked high. And indeed they did! In a great three-set match, Dubois and Farina upset the second seeds to reach the quarterfinals. Hopefully the single and double success will keep on going for both Dubois and Farina!

Groenefeld Pierces Pierce

http://www.hopmancup.com.au/upload/images/players/groenefeld2.jpg
Anna-Lena drives through a forehand, similar to what she did to Mary Pierce the entire match.

Antwerp, BEL - Anna-Lena Groenefeld advancd to her second career semifinal with a 6-3 6-1 pummelling over Mary Pierce.

It was a classic battle of big babes, hard-hitters who never heard of the term "3/4 speed." Aggression fueled the match, and it was Anna-Lena Groenefeld who had the precision and persistence of a champion.

After an upset victory over fourth-seeded Sonya Jeyaseelan the day before, the German was sure to avoid the customary let-down after an emotional win.

"I was very, very pleased with the way I played today," said a peppy Groenefeld. "I mean, Mary is a very good player, and I was just able to impose my game and not let her get into a groove with her shots."

Groenefeld next faces World #1 Kim Clijsters. This will be there fourth meeting, with the Belgian holding a 2-1 H2H lead.

"Kim and I always have good matches," Anna-Lena said. "She's so good from everywhere on the court, on any court. I'll just have to try my best tomorrow and see what happens."

Anna-Lena and Patty also teamed up to reach the semifinals with a 6-3 4-6 6-2 win over Venus Williams and Ana Ivanovic. They will play the #1 seeds Kim Clijsters and Angela Haynes. Surely, Kim Clijsters is absolutely sick of playing Anna-Lena and Patty Schnyder, in both singles and doubles.

Anna-Lena in First Career Final

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/659/capt_f905d9f7810446cc92b1bc29c068c487_canada_roger s_cup_tennis_mtlb105.jpg

Antwerp, BEL - Anna-Lena Groenefeld took a 2-1 lead in H2H over the world's best Kim Clijsters today with a 6-4 4-6 7-5 win over the Belgian crowd favorite.

The match was filled with dazzling play, with both players fighting hard and only one break deciding the match. It was Anna-Lena who pulled through, with her deep groundstrokes that did not allow Kim to dictate play, while at the same time allowing her an opportunity to put the Belgian on the defense.

"It was a great, fun match," Groenefeld said. "Kim is such a good player, and we always have such great battles. The match could have gone either way today, and I'm lucky that I came out on top."

With the win, Groenefeld advaced to her first career final to face eight seed Elena Bovina, always a tricky player for anyone.

"I'm a bit nervous of course," Anna-Lena said. "It's my first ever final, and I'll be playing against Elena who has such a quirky game. She can do so well one week and just flame out the next, so she's a very difficult opponent to solve out there on the court. I'll try my best and see what happens, hopefully I can claim my first ever title!"

Should Anna-Lena lose, she will also be in the doubles final where she plays against Anastasia Rodionova and Nicole Vaidisova.

BOVINA TURNED INTO PSYCHO!

In the final set of semi-finals match between Elena Bovina and Silvia Farina-Elia at the Diamond Classic in Antwerp, there were huge dramas at 5-0 to the Italian player when she called her opponent a psycho. Because Bovina kept going on how she played poorly due to her commitment to Paris Hilton’s celibate club.

Once she heard that word from Farina-Elia and she declares to show how psycho she is about to. She suddenly came back from nowhere and her behaviour rather oddly like at one of stages in the match, one spectator cheering the Italian player and she yelled at the chair umpire to “Shut that fat Belgian waffle up! Can someone please put some honey in his mouth and eat him!” and when he ran away and she says, “I guess he is on his way to the oven to heat him up. I bet it would be very delicious.”

Farina-Elia choked big time and losing the match with wasted six match points. The Russian player is well known as a psycho and a slut to the Tour and two months ago, she joined Paris Hilton’s celibate club as she want to concentration on her tennis career. She and Hilton had a talk about her debut appearance on new season’s The Simple Life.

THE PSYCHO DENIED GROENEFELD’S FIRST TITLE

http://www.geocities.com/bovinanet/pictures/2212NHvTrophyMid.jpg

Elena Bovina or well known as The Psycho claimed her second singles title today in Antwerp, Belgium when she defeated Anna-Lena Groenefeld in straight sets, 6-4 7-6 included trailed at 5-3. She just came this week from the US Open where she won the doubles title with Svetlana Kuznetsova and her energy is rather exhausted at the moment. She actually deliberated to lose her doubles match last Monday against Dubois/Farina-Elia to save some of her energy and it was wise decision after all. She doesn’t expect to do well in next tournament at Zurich due to her condition of energy.

“I think I played awesome this week due to winning the US Open doubles title last week that motivated me the most. I really satisfied the way I played this week especially yesterday I beat Silvia (Farina-Elia) for the first time.” Bovina said, “As for Anna-Lena, she has a great week considering she beat Kim (Clijsters) in straight sets in face of these fat Belgian waffles in the both singles and doubles event.”

What about huge drama in the match? There was none but there was one in the trophy presentation! She broke the trophy by slipped down. It was the glass trophy not diamond racquet that is it. The tournament director demanded her to pay for a new trophy but she refused with gave him a slap bitch!
