My picks and tips for the first ever PTF

Losing Quarter-Finalist 1 : Nika Ozegovic
Had a terrible draw last week, having to verse the eventual winner Sania Ancic in qualifying at Mestre. Impressed me the week before at 50k Martina Franca reaching the semi finals.

Losing Quarter-Finalist 2: Andrea Petkovic
Very nearly placed as a losing Semi Finalist after reaching the final at Alphen last week losing to the great Marina Erakovic in 3 close sets coming through qualifying also. Apart from that result you have to go back to early July in Sttuttgart where she made the semi finals only to loose to Monica Niculescu.

Losing Quarter-Finalist 3: Ana Timotic
Hasnt had a very decent season, however it was about this time last year when she made the final of the 25k Tbilisi, Seville and 50k Batumi Finals - so theres alot of pressure on her to start protecting all these points.

Losing Quarter-Finalist 4: Aniko Kapros
Playing extremely well this week in Mestro after blitzing through qualifying, but before that hasnt performed well in a tournament since May - this may be the difference between her winning and loosing in an earlier round.

Losing Semi-Finalist 1: Johanna Larsson
Could be the dark horse of this competition after beating Kristina Barrois in Stockholm and losing in a very close 3 setter to the 34th ranked Sofia Arvidsson (and on Sofias hometurf too). Apart from that not overly good form this season apart from a semi final at Bastad.

Losing Semi-Finalist 2: Sandra Martinovic
Won Vienna, Horb, Garching, Davos and Lenzerheide (all 10k events) all in the last 3 months. Also got into the semi finals of the 25k Zwevegem.
All her winning this year should give her alot of confidence leading up to Sofia. Very Consistent.

Losing Finalist: Monica Niculescu

Won her way into the finals of 25k Coimbra, Stuttgart, Darmstadt coming close but loosing in Coimbra and Stuttgart but winning the Darmstadt final easily (6-0 6-1). Struggled at Rimini. Alittle inconsistent.

The Champion: Simona-Iulia Matei
The highest ranked player of the draw. Won the 25k Bastad (beating Johanna Larsson in the semi finals). Playing brilliantly this week at Mestre, also played brilliantly at the 50k Rimini before losing a very close game to Sania Ancic. Simona has alittle reputation for always beating players below her rank but losing to those above her rank which should help her win this tournament. Monica Niculescu could be the only one to beat her.

As you can imagine, I didn't watch the match ;) (iznenada, a? :lol: ), but I guess Elitsa badly needs some experience and as someone said- a new coach. Seeing she lost the two TBs I really think it's lack of experience. Of course, maybe Lauren is just a superior player (and in a certain way she is, she won the match :) ).
