Marion Bartoli said at the airport 'I am really excited about being here! Its the first tournament and I need to see how thnigs work here and how good the girls are but I am looking forward to it. I have already found a doubles partner and just cant wait to get started. The draw hasnt been made up so I will just try and practise with as many players as possible before we get started'

One of the draw card for the start of the season Sharapova looked relaxed and happy as she worked on her tan. She also got her fair share of attention from the local lads wanting to take a sneek peek at the Russian Beauty.

Very slow start from the top seed but then Elena went to sleep in the 2nd. 3rd set was an amazing battle but in the end Dani just hit more winners and less errors in the end.

Masha was awfully close to taking this, it was just a matter of fitness in the end to decide the winner, with Serena blasting her way through the third with some amazing winners.

Match of the day! Venus took it to Ana until the 3rd set where she struggled in the Gold Coast sun and it was over very quickly.
