Maria Sharapova arrived early in Las Vegas after her first round exit in Miami to #4 Seed Maggie Maleeva.
" I was dissapointed about that heart-breaking loss that i decided the best thing for me was to move on and relax in Las Vegas have some fun before my next tournament starts i have had time to reflect and i feel mentally refreshed and ready to go. I had a bad loss last week but i hope to turn it around and have a better week this time and im glad i enjoyed Las Vegas i stayed at the Majestic and met so many great people who i will definitely be inviting to my matches all the support i can get is gonna be fantastic for me"

Highlandman Jul 31st, 2006, 02:58 PM Edina Gallovits at the Casino-City
http://img428.imageshack.us/img428/5861/70471er2.jpg
The tournament of Las Vegas is a particular tournament for Edina Gallovits. "I'm a big fan of casino's and I like beautiful hotels so much. Here in Las Vegas is all on one place, it's fantastic"
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/4/45/Hotel_Paris_Las_Vegas_by_Night.jpg/450px-Hotel_Paris_Las_Vegas_by_Night.jpghttp://www.harrahs.com/images/Property/plv/thingsToDo/12LeBoulevard_300x225.jpg
My sponsor said to me that they will foot the bills of my hotels, so I think I can go in the best hotels of the world, why not? Here in Las Vegas I decided me for the "Hotel Paris Las Vegas", it's so big and great. Here I'm in the lap of luxury. I knew that my next tournament is in Las Vegas, so I arrived directly after my loss against Golovin in R16 of Miami to Las Vegas - it was on thursday.
I can enjoy and relax so much in this hotel and this Golf-Place here, wow!
http://www.harrahs.com/images/Property/plv/thingsToDo/cascata_300x225.jpg
Ev'ry morning, instead of jogging, I'm going to play golf, my coach is not very happy about this, but I said to him: "When I can play golf, you will see I'm playing much better". And at the evening before I'm going to dinner, I go again to the golf-place, there you can see a wondeful sundown.
But sometimes, I like it to swim for a long time, there I can think about so many things, I love it. And swimming is very good to get more power in the arms.
http://www.harrahs.com/images/Property/plv/thingsToDo/20ParisPool_300x225.jpg
At first I wanted to the Bellagio-Hotel in Las Vegas. But there were no free rooms, okay, I should say that I booked last sunday, so it was very rapid ;). And I should also say that in the Bellagio were free rooms, but only the worse rooms and I don't like worse rooms.
On friday and yesterday I was in a casino for a long time, I won there a lot of money, I was surprised and the others there said only three letters: "WOW" - I found it very funny. Next week it's difficult to go again in a casino, because I'm playing the tournament.
http://www.h-e-eisenring.ch/USA_Kanada/Bilder_USA_Kanada/Bilder_USA_Reise_5_Teil/Las%20Vegas%20Casino.jpg
My favourite game in the Casino is the "Roulette", it's so funny and fantastic. However I like some other games, too ;)
http://www.tumas.com/images/Roulettetable.jpg
On saturday I enjoyed to Night-Life of Las Vegas, it was chameleonic. Some friends told me it is one of the greatest Night-Life of the world - and they are right. It was so fantastic, all the lights, the clubs, discos - the night was too short for all the things. I'm sure to go again in the "Night-Life" of Las Vegas again, but not when I have a match on the next day, it's not good to play drunkn or tired ;). Normally I have me under control and I'm not so a big fan of clubs, discos, ... however here? It's very very difficult for me ;) .
http://www.mccullagh.org/db9/1ds-4/las-vegas-strip.jpg
By reason of all the things here, I nearly forgot that I must play tennis this week here  . In the first round I will play against Alizee Cornet from France, I never played against here and I don't something about her game, but for me is sure: I will play my best tennis! Or I hope to play my best tennis, after my wild nights here in Las Vegas, it's more difficult *smiles...
After my practise-season many people recognized me and wanted autographs, asked questions to me, ... I was very happy after this, the most said: "We saw you in Miami and you played very well there" - this is like music for me.
In doubles I will play again with Meghann, we are a great team, but I don't know against who we will play. The drawing is later - I think. In Miami we played very well and I think we will here very well again.
So guys, I will talk to you again after my match against Cornet, I hope I will win and I hope to have so many support again like in Miami

Tatiana Perebiynis
T. Perebiynis Interview - Day 1
Wednesday, 2 August, 2006
Q. A good opening match for your tour debut do you think?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Yeah, definitely. I think that first hurdle is always the toughest but I fought hard and got the win.
Q. What did you feel contributed to your win today?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: In terms of my game?
Q. Your game, Gubasci’s game...?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Well, obviously this was my first match, so Zsofia would not know the type of game I play, that could’ve been an advantage for me. But then again she has the tour experience and is a good player, so I think it was just a matter of playing my game which I think I did well.
Q. You seemed to have a lapse in the middle of the match.
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Sure. Well I think it was probably nerves, I missed a few shots, didn’t hit deep enough, and she took advantage. She definitely lifted her play a little while mine was probably not at its best.
Q. You'll play the third seed, Jelena Dokic, next round. How are you approaching that match?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Like I said before, I just have to try and play my game. Obviously I’m the lowest ranked player in the draw. I wasn’t expected to even reach the second round so anything else is just a bonus. Just have to try my best, there’s nothing to lose.
Q. You're teaming with fellow newcomer, Michaella Krajicek, in the doubles. Are you two good friends?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Well we didn’t know each other too well, but our coaches are friends, so it wasn’t a difficult choice to make, as doubles partners.
Q. Is this a permanent partnership?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: I think so. It depends I guess, further down the line. Maybe she will have more success than me, maybe I more than her, and so we could be playing different tournaments each week. But as of right now, I definitely think we’ll stick together.
Q. Thank you Tatiana, and congratulations.
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Thanks.
*Jool* Aug 2nd, 2006, 11:42 AM good luck :bigclap:

KimC&MariaSNo1's Aug 2nd, 2006, 01:26 PM Interview With Maria Sharapova
M.Sharapova (RUS) def. A.Harkleroad (USA) 7-6(8) 4-6 7-6(3)
Q: Welcome Maria great match today it was a battle but you got through how do you feel?
A: I feel great to finally get a win is awesome it was definitely tough Ashley played unbelieveable through the whole match she had the crowd support but i think my guts and determination got me through.
Q: You have been here in Las Vegas for over a week now what have you been up to?
A: well for the first few days i just relaxed gambled a little, took in a few shows and just chilled by the pool. after that i had some sponsorship commitments i had to take care of which were really fun and i think the week away really helped me play well when i needed to.
Q: you finally won some tie-breaks why do you think that is?
A: i think it comes down to me beibng mentally strong that first set was crucial and was probably the best tennis your gonna see both me and ashley were hitting winners all over the court and it was a little bit of luck for me with the net-cord winner on set point but that set was so high quality i think i hit like 35 winners in that set alone im really happy to win this match especially when it was so tough out there today.
Q: you play doubles with Koukalova how did that partnership come about?
A: Klara is a great person and she is staying in the room next to me we hit the casino together one night and had a blast. it was a coincidence that we both were looking for a doubles partner and we decided to give it a crack and i hope we have fun out there cause we really have become friends this week.
Q: Good luck with your matches tommorow?
A: thanx alot i hope to play as well as i did today

NyCPsU Aug 2nd, 2006, 08:11 PM Meilen advances in "Tu" Sets
http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060801/capt.aecf49f27ce74d2cb2dc79fe14d530a7.acura_classi c_tennis_cadp108.jpg
Meilen Tu is a rookie to the LTT Tour. She came into the scene a few weeks ago during the grasscourt season and has had little success. Her only win on the tour was a walkover in the first round of Wimbledon. She doubles with fellow American Jamea Jackson, also a newcomer to the tour, and though a little more successful there, they have never advanced past the second round of a tournament.
"I just go into every match with nothing to lose, I know the results will start coming soon, I just got to keep working at it."
Tu has suffered some tough losses however, losing quite often in tough three setters, two of which were third set tiebreaks. Many have even gone to say she is not mentally tough enough to succeed on the tour.
"I can see why people would think that, I've had bad chokes and not been the best mentally, but I know in my heart that I've got what it takes."
Meilen came into Las Vegas, a smaller tier 3 tourney, with high expectations.
"I told myself I was going to have a good result here, I couldnt accept anything less. Then the draw came out and I was against Foretz, the four seed, and I knew things would be tough, but I pulled through."
Tu won the match in two tough sets, 7-5 7-5, and moves on to play Maria Sharapova in the second round.
"Maria is a tough player. She just got through a really tough 3 set match and hopefully I'll be a bit fresher. Theres no reason I shouldn't win this after knocking off a seed though. Ill be disappointed if I dont come away with a win."
Whatever the outcome Meilen Tu has to be happy about her results here in Las Vegas. She finally overcame the barrier and got her first real win in singles. Maybe a breakthrough of sorts?
Cat's Pajamas Aug 2nd, 2006, 08:27 PM Congrats Meilen :yeah:

Tatiana Perebiynis
T. Perebiynis Interview - Day 2
Thursday, 3 August, 2006
Q. Congratulations on knocking out the third seed.
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Thank you. I don’t think it has sunk in yet. I’m in the Quarter-Finals (laughter).
Q. You managed to come back after losing that first set. What exactly motivated you to keep fighting?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Well I think tennis is a sport where, so quickly, everything can just turn around. You can be down, you know, match point and still come back and win. So I try to never give up, even though that isn’t always easy. But in today’s match, I was just down a set and managed to stay close in that second and when I won that set I knew I could win the match. I never really believed I wasn’t going to win. You have to tell yourself that you always can.
Q. Did you get nervous in the third?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: I don’t think I gave myself time to be nervous. I mean, I knew it was close and I had an opportunity to close out the match and I just tried to concentrate on getting it done.
Q. Would you contribute the win to you elevating your play, or Dokic’s diminishing?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Um. I don’t think I could put it on either one of those. I mean Jelena is a great player and in the first set, really controlled the match and the points. In the second and third though I tried to play a different game, mix it up a bit, and I think that is probably what put her off, forced some errors and frustrated her play.
Q. Up next is Gallovits. Do you know her well?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Well yes I saw her play a bit during her matches. She has been impressive so far, I don’t think she has lost a set. Just see how it goes I guess, and try my best.
Q. Are you tired at all?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: From playing a lot of tennis?
Q. Yes. Also in doubles, your close loss today.
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Yeah, we did have a really close match. I think so far I have played three matches, all in three sets, but I’m not feeling too tired. I’m young and fit (laughing). I think I can handle it (smiling).
Q. Are you disappointed with your doubles loss?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Of course, no one likes to lose. It was very close too, which makes it worse, but I still think we work well as a team and overtime our results will improve. Michaella is also in the Quarters with me so it might be best to be able to concentrate on singles.
Q. Thank you Tatiana.
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Thanks.

Highlandman Aug 3rd, 2006, 10:32 AM Casino - Lady Edina Gallovits in QF
http://photo910.tripod.com/gkopihtm/gkopi/g1153g3.jpg
After her win in first round over Alizee Cornet from France, Romania's Edina Gallovits won over 5-seeded Ai Sugiyama from Japain again in two sets.
Q: Edina, you're now in the QF of Las Vegas, what do you feel about it?
EG: It's great. Yesterday I won over Ai Sugiyama in two sets, she is 5-seeded and so I think it was a great match from me. In 1r I had a similar result against Alizee Cornet from France. This tournament is a recognition for me for my hard work in the last weeks.
Q: In a reportage about you you said you love this city, is it correctly?
EG: Sure, I stand to my states ;) . At first I loved this city only for her sights, hotels, casinos, ... but now I love it for the tournament, too
Q: What did you change in your game after your loss in Miami against Golovin?
EG: I worked on my service again and my net-game. In both matches here I had great service and neither Cornet, nor Sugiyama broke me, that was great for me. My net-game was very well, too. I'm very very content with my game these days here.
Q: In the QF you will play against Tatiana Perebiynis, what can you tell us about her?
EG: I never played against her, but in the last round she won over Jelena Dokic and I watched a bit of this match. She played very very well, she lost the first, but after this she fighted all the time. I must give all against her.
Q: Do you know her personally?
EG: A bit. After her win over Dokic I talked some words to her, she was very nice. Ai Sugiyama was very nice and fair after her loss against me, too, as well Alizee Cornet, but I didin't saw her again after the match.
Q: In doubles you lost with Meghann Shaughnessy to Koukalova and Sharapova, what was there?
EG: That's right. It's very pity, because we had a great match in the first, but now? Sharapova and Koukalova played very well with a lot of power, so it was very difficult for us from the first minute and we both played not our best tennis, but congrats to them. However Meghann is very nice, she supported me a lot in singles these days, it was pity that she lost in the first round.
Q: What can you tell us about the public?
EG: They are great here. Very nice people everywhere. Yesterday against Ai it was so cheerful sentiment, there were many people who supported me and the others supported Ai, but both groups were very friendly to each other, it was nice!
Q: Were you again in the night-life or a casino?
EG: No  ! I had no time while the tournament and I cannot play when I had a wild night before  or what would the people think about me when I'm drunkn on the court :help:  But I'm sure, when I'm out of the tournament, I hope to go again to a casino.
Q: We heard you are for two weeks without your coach on the tour, is it right?
EG: Yes, it is. He has a very important seminar for coaches in Rome in this time. It's okay for me, because I know how important it is for him. And I know I have many supporters at the tournament, so I have no fear of me ;)
Q: Thanks Edina and good luck in the QF!
EG: Thank you and thanks to all my fans, I love you all!

Tatiana Perebiynis
T. Perebiynis Interview - Day 3
Friday, 4 August, 2006
Q. Bad luck for your loss today. Are you satisfied with the tournament though?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Oh sure, I mean, I managed to get 2 wins against higher ranked players, knocked out a seeded player too. I’m pretty happy.
Q. It was a close match. Can you talk us through it?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Well I think that first set was just very close, the whole way through, at five games all, I perhaps got a little bit tight, nervous, and she just was playing really well and managed to win that set. I think though I could’ve easily just given up after that missed opportunity, but I didn’t, I just kept fighting and managed to take out the second. I’m not sure in the third, maybe a little tired, I’ve played a lot of tennis, probably played a part. She was really moving me around, I had to do a lot of running. But also experience, she just played the bigger points better.
Q. What do you think troubled you the most about Edina’s game?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: She just puts a lot of pressure on and comes to the net quite a bit, and as a result your shots need to really be on, in terms of passing shots & lobs. Luckily I was able to hit some good shots today but I think she just served really well. She had an obvious game plan, and it worked pretty well for her.
Q. What did you say to each other at the net? It seemed you two had a short conversation.
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Well I just said thanks for a good match and told her she played well, wished her luck for the rest of the tournament. She also said that it was a tough match and she congratulated me on a good first tournament and wished me luck for my career. She was very nice.
Q. What are your next tournaments?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: California. I’m actually really looking forward to it. It is a big tournament with all the players playing pretty much, so It’ll be good to play some higher ranked players and see how I go. Then I’ll play the USOpen, which will be my first Grand Slam, so yeah, very exciting.
Q. Will you continue playing doubles with Michaella?
TATIANA PEREBIYNIS: Yes, for sure. I know we lost this week but I think we played pretty well, and we’ll stick together, definitely.
Q. Thank you Tatiana.

Michaella Krajicek
M. Krajicek Interview - Day 3
Friday, 4 August, 2006
lst. Maret Ani 6-3 6-3
Q. Michaella, a tough loss today?
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: Yeah it was, for sure. I think I just, kind of, ran out of steam today. It has been a long week, for my first tournament, and she knew how to work me around, to tire me out more. But I am happy with my week in all (smiling).
Q. Previously, in your earlier matches, it seemed you were moving rather swiftly through the draw. What happened in today’s match?
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: Again, I think I was just tired. Of course, beginner’s luck could have played a part (smiling). But I’m sure this week has kind of been a great sign of what’s to come (smiling). Having a great coach, as well, helped me in preparing for each match.
Q. What will be your next event?
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: I’ll be heading over to ‘sunny California’ (laughing). I’m really looking forward to it, it will be my first time in California and I’ve heard great things about it. I know it will be another great challenge.
Q. Did you manage to spend anytime at the Casino during your visit to Las Vegas?
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: I tried but it seems they won’t even bend the age restrictions for a tennis player (smiling). I’ll just have to wait a few years , by then I’ll hopefully have won some more prize money and make it a big night out at the Casino.
Q. How old are you?
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: I'm Seventeen.
Q. You entered on the tour rather late this season. Do you have any goals for the upcoming US Open or anything you wish to achieve by the end of the year? Ranking wise?
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: I just really want to do my best for the rest of the season and see where that takes me. If I set goals and then I don’t achieve them, I will be pretty annoyed with myself. So for now I will just see what happens. Of course I would love to not be beaten by anyone younger than me. I’ll try to stick to that but my major goals will come next season, after a lot of hard work to improve.
Q. Thank you Michaella.
MICHAELLA KRAJICEK: Thanks guys.

Highlandman Aug 5th, 2006, 05:15 PM Edina Gallovits in her first final
http://photo910.tripod.com/gkopihtm/gkopi/g1153g6.jpg
After a 7-5,7-5 win against Maret Ani from Estonia, Edina Gallovits will play tomorrow her first final ever, in final she will meet 2-seeded Maria Kirilenko.
"Wow, it's a great feeling for me. When you said before the tournament I will reach the final, I said to you: "Shut up  " . I gave only one set up in the whole tournament, it is so great for me and my carrer. I know, now, that many players and other people have some respect for me. In final I will meet Maria Kirilenko, I never played against her and I don't know her good. I saw her match against Meilen Tu, where she played three sets, she is a very good player.
Before the tournament I said to you I wanna go to the casino again, but I think you don't want that I'm going to a casino  - perhaps this is the reason why I'm in the final :) . No, seriously, I said already in Miami I'm in a good form and here I'm much better than in Miami, it would be sad when I would lose the final tomorrow, because I feel me so good and I don't know when I got so a big chance again. Ev'ry match I have more fans, this is so nice for a rather unknown player like me, but with my final (or perhaps win :p ) I think every tennisfan knows the name "Edina Gallovits" and this is fantastic for me. I called to friends in Romania 30 minutes ago, they said all the people in Timisoara (my birthplace) are so happy for me.
I will give all tomorrow and I hope for you all that you wil see a great final, thanks for all your support, you are all great  "

Edina Gallovits wins her first tournament at Las Vegas
http://tennis.info/images/PalmBeach3/Gallovits0337.jpg
4-6,7-5,7-5 won Edina Gallovits in a close match over 2-seeded Maria Kirilenko in the final of Las Vegas.
"I'm so happy now. I don't know what I can say now to you, it was great match and Maria was a great opponent so I played my best tennis. She leaded with a break 2-0 in the third, but I fighted back, I said to me: "It's you chance, take it" and I played better and better, I want to say thank you to all the people who supported me this week, it was a great week here in Las Vegas. Now I'm so optimistic for the bigger events like Montreal next week or the US Open in two weeks, I'm in a great form and I know now that I can reach a lot. I have now the prize for my hard work in the last weeks, thanks again to all the people who believed in me and supported me, I'm so happy now!"

Interview With Maria Sharapova:
Q: Congratulations Maria this is you first Doubles title
MS: Thanks it feels great playing with Koukalova this week worked out well and we had fun.
Q: You seemed to click as a team do you think you and Klara will play again together?
MS: I really hope so if she wants to im not sure what shes thinking right now but im open to it.
Q: You beat Melien Tu in the final is it sweeter as she defeated you in the singles?
MS: Melien played the better match and its always good to get revenge on a player when theyve beaten you prior im glad that we got the win but id rather have won in singles.
Q: Your playing in California next week how do you see yourself going?
MS: well im not sure of my draw but if im to get through then i will need to pick up my game as im not really happy with my singles game at this point but maybe this doubles title will help me with my confidence.
Q: How is it going with you and Nadal?
MS: Rafa and me are very happy together he was with me this week in Las Vegas and its great for that support. Im not really wanting to talk about my personal life so no more queations on that.
Q: Do you see yourself as a threat to top players you havent beaten any yet?
MS: well i keep pushing them but im not getting through i need to stay aggressive and it will happen soon i know im capable of beating them but i need to put it into perspective and keep working hard to get there.
Q: congratulations again on your title, Good Luck next week
MS: thanx guys
