In the 1880s there was mining for Nickel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel) in Espedalen. The search for Nickel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel) was taken up again in 2004 by Blackstone Venture (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Blackstone_Venture&action=edit), a Canadian company. As of 2006 they are still drilling for mineral samples only.
