iPatty. Jul 18th, 2006, 03:41 AM Switzerland Gears Up For Fed Cup

Following Patty Schnyder's great Wimbledon success, she heads for the green clay of America, to play in the Fed Cup Semifinals in Forest Hills, New York. Alongside Martina Hingis, Schnyder hopes to guide Switzerland to it's first Fed Cup Final. Their opponents? France.
"For sure, I feel we are an amazing team, Martina and I. It's not often you have two players from the same country who are so talented. Especially such a small one like Switzerland. I think we are the favorites against France, and I really think we'll beat them," Schnyder said.
With Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo out, France's team is seriously weakened, guided by slumping top tenner, Tatiana Golovin. Golovin has decided to play one singles match, leaving Mary Pierce to play two singles and Stephanie Foretz the other.
"I don't think that was a good descision. Tatiana is by far their best player. She isn't that good at doubles, so she really should've stuck with singles. Oh well, mistakes like that will cost them against a super team like us. I open against Foretz, which should be a piece of cake. Then Patty takes on Mary. Patty's been playing amazingly well lately, so I see her winning that," Hingis said.
Yasmine Jul 18th, 2006, 07:58 AM Points have been sent for Belgium, article to come later on;)

Alberto Jul 20th, 2006, 11:07 AM Hungary: Just one point to reach the final
Gubacsi and Kuti Kis are showing that they really care about Fed Cup, Hungary is leading Belgium 2-1 and tomorrow will be the final decision.
Too much pressure for Rita and Zsofia or Kim and Kristin are not enough motivated??
Although Gubacsi and Kuti Kis are not getting very good results this season in singles or doubles, the hungarian players are giving their best in this event. They are not being the favourite in any eliminatory for sure and everybody is surprised everytimethey win a match, but here they are, just one more win to play the big final.Good luck girls! you are a realfighters and winners!!

Yasmine Jul 21st, 2006, 09:54 AM Belgian Fed Cup team celebrates their qualification for the final!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/yeljai/9450.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/yeljai/9449.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/yeljai/fedcupcopie-1.jpg
Kirsten Flipkens levelled the tie score by beating Zsofia Gubacsi 7-6(5) 7-6(1). Both sets were very close and therefore nerve racking for the fans in the croud who were equally cheering for both players. The Belgian had maybe the slight favours of the croud as the public wanted to see a tie decider between Kim Clijsters and Rita Kuti-Kis. The Belgian won the last match in straight sets 7-5 6-3 and the whole of the team joined Kim to celebrate their qualification for the final where they will face Switzerland who defeated France 3-2.
