As a young player ranked #46 in singles, all her best friends on tour are currently playing the TierII tournament in Rome. Kirsten is hoping for a good performance here following her outstanding matches at Fed Cup last week winning both her singles matches against Stephanie Dubois and in an epic match against good friend Sonya Jeyaseelan allowing her country to advance to the semi finals.
"I will miss Sonya, Maggie and Althea here this week but thanks to internet I'll be in touch often. I wish them all the best in Rome. And now I need to keep the good work going to increase my rankings. So next time I'll play the same tourneys." she commented.
She is associated with Ting Li in doubles but the pair haven't had great results since they reached the SF in Sydney. "But we keep working and we hope it'll pay off soon. It just takes some time to adjust and learn to work with each other. But we have fun when we practice everytime so that's good." added the young belgian.

Anne Kremer Of Luxembourg During Training For Her Match
Against American Ashley Harkleroad Of The USA
World Number 42, Anne Kremer of Luxembourg has been preparing hard in Madrid, reports the Luxembourg Press. The world number 42, who has reached the 3rd Round of the Australian Open this year and Quarter Finals of the US Open spoke to us courtside after a hard training session.
Anne, your first match is Ashley Harkleroad, what do you think of this match?
I am ranked higher then Ashley, she is a lot younger than me, popular with fans and seems a nice girl. I haven't seen her play before but I have been practicing hard
What did you think of your success two weeks ago when you reached the Monte Carlo semi finals with Dinara Safina?
Obviously it was a great confidence boost. I was going through a difficult time, my coach left Monte Carlo because he said I would lose and I proved him wrong by getting that far. I hadn't won much, if many matches with Dinara so to make the semi finals of a tournament featuring all the great doubles players in the world was really good for me.
You are a lot older than most girls on the tour, does this work as an advantage or a disadvantage for you?
Ok, I am 30 years old, turning 31 in October. Time is not on my side, I have been playing challengers for quite a few years but I am in the best form of my life at the moment. Some girls getting older won't keep fit, but I am still in pretty good shape I think, I can run lots of balls down but I am not as strong as the others.
You have had many tough losses this year against a higher ranked player on a stadium court where it goes to 3 sets but you never quite win
Yes that is true, I am not a confident person and I always was a little scared, but all this has changed now. I had troubles believing that I could get the win a lot of the time and when I found myself leading in some of these matches, well I just didn't think I could get the win or that it wasn't possible for me to be playing this well. There have been a few matches where I have left the court in tears, but that is the kind of person I am.
Are you disappointed that there are no other girls from Luxembourg that play on the LTT Tour?
Luxembourg is a small country, there are two girls that play challengers but don't want to play Fed Cup, so I don't blame them. I had a good time this year playing in a Europe team with Anna-Lena Groenefeld, she is a great girl.
On the subject of your age again, how many years will you be on the tour from? What do you wish to do after a life in tennis?
When I retire I wish to be a translator, I am fluent in English, French, German and Luxembourgese. (that is actually true people if anyone reads this) As for tennis, it depends how well I play. I may retire at the end of this season, because of my age and give my coach the chance to coach another player where he could coach for a long time or alternatively I will play for a few more years. It depends on my health.
Ceze May 22nd, 2006, 07:58 PM good luck Anne! :wavey: (I knew about the languages :yeah: )
aisha May 22nd, 2006, 08:15 PM Pierce Hopes To End Losing Streak In Madrid
http://www.mary-pierce.org/German_Open_2002/mary1.jpg
Mary Pierce smiles during practice.
Fresh from Fed Cup triumph, French hopeful Mary Pierce is now focused on attempting to win her first title as she competes in this week's Memorial Cup.
Pierce, however, isn't feeling confident about her chances.
"I'm not quite where I want to be physically and mentally. I'm still quite upset I lost my Fed Cup match. I had a chance to seal victory for my country, but I just couldn't get it going. Our best player, Amelie is a champ. I want to be like her when I grow up."
Pierce is still learning to adjust to single motherhood and balancing family and career. "I don't ever want to say that my results are subpar because of my babies. Never. That's not even part of the equation. I have supportive family and friends. I have all the help I need. The fact that I've lost three straight matches is no one else's fault but mine. I honestly believe my time will come with the more matches I play."
If Pierce want to end her losing streak, she must get by tough Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, which would set up a second round encounter with doubles partner, Jelena Dokic.
"Jelena's been struggling as of late, but she certainly has the talent to snap out of it. I'm not looking past anyone. I certainly have my work cut out for me. It's no biggie, another life challenge I suppose."

KimC&MariaSNo1's May 23rd, 2006, 07:26 AM Sharapova Slides Past Sugiyama
Russian Beauty Maria Sharapova today had one of her better wins of her short career defeating 8th Seed Ai Sugiyama of Japan 5-7 6-2 6-4.
After having a not so good start to the year going 2-4 in singles matches she seems ready to statt playing to her potential and start challenging the big biatches of the tour.
She had this to say after the win "It was a tough match and to beat a player like Sugiyama who is so tricky and played so amazing in the first set. It feels good i hope to continue my great play and win consecutive matches for the first time in my career"
Tomorrow she meets Z.Gubasci who had a straight set win over K.Koukalova 6-3 6-2

http://www.mary-pierce.org/Italian_2002/200205801.jpg
Mary Pierce looks on after accidentally drilling a ball kid.
MADRID, Spain
Mary Pierce notched her first win on clay, dispatching Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 7-6(5), 6-4. Pierce now advances to the Round of 16 to meet doubles partner and no. 1 seed Jelena Dokic for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Despite early struggles and a 4-2 deficit, Pierce used her unpredictably deep groundstrokes to break Hantuchova at love. Both players put each other on the defensive in the 'Battle of the Backhands'. At 4-5, 0-30, Pierce hit her 14th backhand winner after a 22 shot rally. Three points later, Pierce hit a smash to even up the set at 5-5.
During the tie-break, both players, tired of running began moonballing and dropshotting one another. This tactic worked until 5-5, when Hantuchova lauched a loopy return into the stands. Pierce ripped a crosscourt backhand winner to close out the set.
Seven consecutive breaks of serve littered the second set, both players committing egregious, sloppy errors. Pierce broke this heinous streak, with a comfortable hold to go up 5-3. Hantuchova, to her credit, dug out of a 15-40 hole with solid net play and crosscourt returns. However, it wasn't enough to discourage Pierce from serving out the match at love, ending with her fifth ace.
"Gosh. It was really tough out there - and hot! Daniela reallly was hitting that backhand out there. I just couldn't get a read on it today. There was some good returns but my goodness, that second set was ridiculous. I'm just glad that I got through a match like this. I had something like 55 erros or something like that. I know that I need to cut those down, because Jelena knows my game, obviously, but for now I'm just content with advancing the the second round."

Europe rocks May 23rd, 2006, 08:57 PM Krasnoroutskaya seals Spanish success
http://www.tennis-ontheline.com/pics/05ao/05ozlina%20krasnoroutskaya03.jpg
Russian Lina Krasnoroutskaya won her first ever singles match today at the LTT Memorial Cup in Madrid against Israeli Shahar Peer.
Krasnoroutskaya took the first set with relative ease, breaking Peer's serve at will, but she soon came unstuck in the second set, as Peer cut out the unforced errors and hit several winners, especially in the second set tiebraker, which she won 7-0.
However, Krasnoroutskaya took more risks in the deciding set, often going for risky backhands and hitting several beautiful volleys. The third set also featured several moonballs, as the Russian seemed to be working out how to grind her opponent down and out-hit her in the process. Peer saved one matchpoint with a forehand winner, but conceded the match with a wide return to enable the Russian to win 6-3 6-7(0) 6-3.
"This is great for me to finally get a win," beamed the Russian. "After having a matchpoint against Sesil in Monte Carlo I knew I was close to winning, and I have done that now."
She now plays third seed Anna Smashnova, who had a first round bye. Koukalova, Krasnoroutskaya's doubles partner lost 6-3 6-2 to Zsofia Gubasci of Hungary.

aisha May 24th, 2006, 03:05 AM Pierce Overcomes Slow Start To Oust Dokic
http://www.mary-pierce.org/Italian_2002/sge.jas24.130502124524.photo00.default-320x384.jpeg
Mary Pierce hits the ball with unabashed authority.
MADRID, Spain
Good grief! Mary Pierce does it the hard way, but it sure has been effective. Pierce defeated no. 1 seed and doubles partner Jelena Dokic 1-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(3) in the second round of the Memorial Cup. The underdog Pierce overcame a sluggish start and a streaky opponent and now advances to her second quarterfinal of the year. Her next opponent is the dangerous Kirsten Flipkens who upset no. 5 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The first set was not one Pierce would like to remember. Pierce came out firing, holding at love. However, Dokic asserted herself, blasting the ball past slow and somewhat nervous Pierce. It didn't help that Pierce was missing - big and the easiest of returns. :o The Frenchwoman accrued 21 ufes to just 7 winners to Dokic's 15 winners to 13 ufe's.
"Oh my! Jelena just went after it. I mean, I don't what else to say. I have to give her credit. She hasn't had the best results lately and she was just moving the ball around. The set was over fairly quickly. I just remember feeling great about my serve. Suddenly everything went blank and I got bulldozed."
Somehow, Pierce managed to settle herself down, breaking twice for a 3-0 lead. Dokic, still pissed at losing a two-break lead broke her racket and Pierce twice more to even the match. Amazingly, both players held serve until the tie-break. This time it was Pierce who took the initiative, dictating throughout the tie-break. She sealed it with a mishit defensive topspin lob, which Dokic threw her racket in vain to reach.
After both players held to 2-all, a seemingly tiring Pierce tried to keep the rallies short by serving and volleying, and going for unnecessary winners. Pierce offered very little resistence as Dokic went up 5-3. Pierce capitalized on Dokic errors and held to 30, leaving her doubles partner to serve for the match.
Pierce stepped up and hit a laser forehand winner past Dokic, quickly followed by two double faults = 40-0. After a backhand winner by Dokic, Pierce broke back, hitting a slice backhand down the line.
Two holds later, the ladies again went to a tie-break. Like the second set, Pierce took charge, constantly putting Dokic on the defense. The discouraged Serbian could only watch as Pierce sealed the match with her seventh ace.
Later, the pair teamed up in doubles. Unfortunately, they lost a tough one to Lina Krasnoroutskaya and Klara Koukalova 7-6(8) 3-6 7-5
"That was a tough one. I feel kind of bad for Jelena. She played pretty well and probably needed this result more than I. With that said, I'm glad I'm finally winning on clay. It's one of my best surfaces, so I feel quite at home on it. Now, it gets tough. Kirsten is playing pretty well. She's kind of unpredictable. I think she should be the favorite."

A day after defeating Israeli third seed Anna Smashnova, Russia's Lina Krasnoroutskaya advanced to her maiden semifinal with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Rita Kuti-Kis.
The Hungarian, seeded 6 in Madrid, started the stronger, breaking the young Russian's serve to love, but Krasnoroutskaya fought back with some wicked angles and delicate shots to serve for the set at 5-4.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Kuti-Kis taking an early lead, but once again the Russian fought back. Krasnoroutskaya started to take more risks and lengthen the rallies, forcing more and more unforced errors from her more experienced opponent.
Krasnoroutskaya had never previosuly won a singles match prior to this week and commented after the match "This is absolutely amazing! I never expected to get this far! My coach and I have been working out different tactics and they seem to be paying off. I have to play Kirsten in the next round and she has been in great form."
Additionally, Krasnoroutskaya and Klara Koukalova reached the doubles semifinal with a three set victory over the top seeds Stephanie Foretz and Svetlana Kuznetsova and will also play Kirsten Flipkens and Ting Li for a place in the final.

Europe rocks May 26th, 2006, 08:41 PM Russians rule in Spain
http://www.tennisrulz.com/players/krasnoroutskaya/gallery/037.jpghttp://ps2.qj.net/sharapova1111.jpg
Lina Krasnoroutskaya reached her first final today in fine fashion to set up an all Russian meeting with her compatriot Maria Sharapova.
Krasnoroutskaya met Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in a highly anticipated semifinal and both players started off nervously, with each player gaining a break of serve. After reeling off four straight games, Krasnoroutskaya had a set point when leading 5-2, but the Belgian fought gamely to save the set point and come within a point of levelling the scores. However, the Russian took advantage of a netcord to edge the first set 6-4.
The second set was just as competitive, but this time it was the sprightly Belgian who took an early lead. However, as Flipkens took a 5-2 lead, Krasnoroutskaya sprung back into life and fought hard to claw her way back to 5-5. Then came a long game, which featured 11 deuces and several missed opportunities for both players, but the slightly more consistant Russian managed to take advantage of the errors from the Belgian. Krasnoroutskaya then eased through the final game to book her place in the final with a well deserved 6-4 7-5 victory.
"I am so shocked to be standing here! The match was so tough, neither of us played extremely well at the same time, we just had to take advantage of the errors that were being made. Kirsten played a phenomenal match and I am sure that she will be winning titles soon. She beat Klara and myself in the doubles today, so I wish her well," the Russian commented. "Hopefully we can make Russia proud in the final," she added, on the prospect of playing Maria Sharapova in the final.
Sharapova also reached her first final today with a 6-1 7-6(4) win over Stephanie Foretz on the clay courts in Madrid.
