Ceze Dec 4th, 2005, 07:48 PM A rejuvenated Maleeva shrugged off years of injury and makes her comeback on the grass of 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
The LTT have welcomed Magdalena Maleeva's announcement that she will return to tennis this year. Magdalena herself is preparing to relaunch her career on the grass courts of the Netherlands, and she seems likely to be granted a wild card into Wimbledon.

AyumiMorita Dec 6th, 2005, 07:32 PM Peng Shuai CHN defeated Alicia Molik AUS 6-2 6-1
http://cache.wtnphotos.com/3263/7951128peng.jpg
Peng dominated the match never allowing Molik to get into the match. With huge returns and overpowering groundstrokes, Molik remained defensive for the enitre match. The Chinese even came behind her blistering two-fisted groundstrokes and came to net with impressive swinging volleys. Peng was very pleased after her first round victory. "I play aggressive ... I came to net and hit many first serve."

Geoffry Dec 7th, 2005, 12:21 PM An Obvious Calmness
http://www.zexpe.freeserve.co.uk/iva/images/HH99R1.jpeg
's Hertogenbosch, NED - In only her second week on the Ladies Tennis Tour, Iva Majoli has reached her first ever quarterfinal. After having had a relatively easy first round win against Vera Zvonareva, the Croatian was due to play against fourth seed Sania Mirza.
Majoli: "Well, seeing that my match against a top seed like Sania was only my third professional match ever, I was quite calm considering the circumstances. I guess that must've helped me a lot."
It definitely did. The Croatian newcomer immediately took control and took the first set in style [6-2]. However, no repeat of that in the second set, in which the Indian got controll on Majoli's aggresive game. A tiebreak did however reward the best player of the two: Iva Majoli.
Majoli: "I guess, besides my obvious calmness, it's also the surface that really suites me. I like playing on the grass and apparently Sania doesn't. Anyway, I'm really excited to be among the last eight."
Meeting her in the quarters is Elena Likhovtseva, the almost thirty year old Russian got few problems with her Polish opponent and will be looking for the same thing as Iva: a semi-final berth.

Sugiyama into the Quarters
http://2004.usopen.org/images/pics/large/b_sugiyama_d05.jpg
In just Ai's second tournament, she shows she belongs after beating Gisela Dulko and marking her spot in the quarterfinals. This was a close match, but Ai proved too strong on the important points.
"I am very pleased with this win today and making it into the quarterfinals", says Ai. "I was very dissapointed last week with my injury. This win makes all the practice worth while."
Dulko was serving for the second set at 6-5, but with Sugiyama's powerful returns she was able to even the set and get it into a tiebreak.
Sugiyama will next face the number 3 seed S.Dubois.
"I know that she will be the strong favorite tomorrow, but that gives me no pressure. I have already exceeded my goals for this tournament, but i won't leave without a fight. I hope to play very well tomorrow."

Ceze Dec 9th, 2005, 02:05 PM Magdalena Maleeva reaches Ordina Open final
Playing just her first LTT Tour event since initially injuring her back at the US Open last year, Magdalena Maleeva has made a remarkable return to tournament play by reaching the final here in the grass of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, defeating Elena Likhovtseva from Russia, her doubles partner, 75 64 in semifinal. It was also her first win in 2 sets in the tournament.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b51/ceze/magdalena-maleeva_003.jpg
Magdalena won her SF at the Ordina open against Elena Likhovtseva
In a dazzling display of power, finesse and athleticism, former world No.4, Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria in only her first tournament of the season after being sidelined for much of the last 10 months with a back injury, continues an unbelievable week by defeating ElenaLikhovtseva 75 64 in the semifinalmatch at the Ordina Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
"It's amazing. After we shook hands, I was sitting on the chair and I just couldn't believe it," said the winner. "I was just sitting there looking at my husband and my coach in my box, saying, 'You know, this is true.' It's an incredible feeling, after the tough year last year, to reach a final now and so soon is very satisfying."
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b51/ceze/open6_gallery__443x550.jpg
Elena Likhovtseva didn't find the way to beat Magdalena in the SF
After the match, Elena Likhovtseva expressed her disappointment with her game as she was looking to reach her first final of the year.
"I did not play at my best today," Likhovtseva said. "I was not aggressive enough and my shots weren't working for me. Maggie took advantage of that and she played well. I have seen that she is back in great form, so strong mentally and focused throughout the whole match."
Magdalena will now face in final Meghann Shaughnessy from the USA, who has defeated the third seed Stéphanie Dubois in 2 sets 61 63 in the other semifinal. Magdalena won their last meeting, in 2004 at the French Open, 63 76(3) and leads the head to head 2-1.

Ceze Dec 10th, 2005, 12:59 PM Magdalena Maleeva is back!
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b51/ceze/010.jpg
S’-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands – 10 months after Magdalena Maleeva was forced to withdraw from the US Open with a back injury that turned out to need a surgery last year. The former worl No.4 retourned to the winner’s circle on the grass of the Ordina Open, just one week before Wimbledon. In just her first event of 2005, the unseeded Bulgarian captured her 11th career singles title, defeating Meghann Shaughnessy 75 16 75 in Saturday's championship match.
"When I decided to come back into competition, I knew what it was to win some matches, but it's just amazing, my first tournament, and I win here in the Netherlands for the first time," she said. "Everything was perfect today. Even the match was very good, so that's also very positive for the future."
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b51/ceze/030.jpg
The final was an intense battle, with both competitors clearly fighting their hardest for the title, using their entire arsenal of spins, slices and net play to outdo each other during numerous long rallies. After Maleeva clinched a tight opening set 7-5, the two players battled fiercely at the beginning of the second during an incredible first game, going to twelve deuces. Shaughnessy held her nerve on her often-shaky delivery and eventually closed out the game, which seemed to deflate Maleeva, and the American ran away with four straight games to lead 4-0 and finally win the second set 6-1 to take the match to a deciding set. Maleeva seemed to get back on track early in the third, with a break in the first game, but allowed a 4-1 lead to slip away with some sloppy play. She finally held for 4-4, with the momentum with her. Shaughnessy broke back in the 10th game to 5-5 but Maleeva managed to put the pressure on Shaughnessy and force a break in the 11th on a double fault and cruised through the final game to capture her 11th career LTT title, her first of the year in her first event of season.
"I never thought about winning this tournament when I arrived," Maleeva said. "Every time I go on court it's to win the match, but I was very focused on my first round and then my second round, and I just went step by step, but I could never imagine that I would play this level for my first tournament on grass."
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b51/ceze/012.jpg
"It is a very good place," said Maleeva on s’-Hertogenbosch. "It's such a nice atmosphere. I think that the crowd gave me such great support, and especially this year that they knew I was coming back, it was probably a little bit more support again. "It feels great to win here; it's a lovely tournament," added Magdelena, who missed much of the season with a back injury that required surgery last October. "The people were very friendly and it was very relaxing. It's especially nice to be here considering everything that happened last year."
Maleeva had enjoyed a very hard path to the final, winning almost her all matches in 3 tight sets. She defeated Shahar Peer 64 46 64 in the first round, Shuai Peng 36 76(0) 75 in the second round. In the quarterfinals she wins over Nicole Vaidisova 46 76(2) 75, Vaidisova who had upset No.2 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova earlier in the week. Maleeva advanced to the final with a 75 64 victory over her doubles partner, Elena Likhovtseva, this match was also her only one in 2 sets in one hour and 33 minutes.
