What happened this week?
Well we have two tournaments to cover and several issues upon each to tackle so let’s go!

Rome:

When You’re God

The Match & The Day:

(Clipped from an article by Editor-in-Chief Rita Grande)

"Well it's happened at last. All the matches, the consecutive three-setters played and late rounds reached has finally caught up with Martina Hingis. But what’s more remarkable? It took a Russian to do it. Until her loss to unseeded Anastassia Rodionova, the Swiss Miss was 6-0 in singles matches against Russians. Call Miss Rodionova as she didn’t seem to get that memo and broke type. Not only does she have the honor of upsetting the current tour no.1 but the opportunity to make an impact where previous winners over the Swiss Miss have failed at.

The mood was ominous and thick enough that it could bleed as Martina Hingis was unable to catch a drive volley that sealed her fate. Looking at the line, at the judge, at her opponent then at the crowd, everyone was nervous as how she would react to her 12-match winning streak being broken. Approaching the net, Hingis would give a wry smile and take a shaky Rodionova’s hand in recognition of her triumph. The crowd roared at the respect given by the champion to the younger upstart. Hingis would then leave the court quietly so that her conqueror could bask in the glory ."

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/romeloss1.jpg
La Gloria

The Aftermath:
Miss Hingis should be relieved that she decided to crash in a smaller event like Rome as she will be receiving 60 points for her quarterfinal finish while the winner will only get 100 more. Rodionova lost her next match but made it deeper into the top 10 while Myskina and Harkleroad obviously improved their rankings.

The Hingis Jinx?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/hjinx.jpg
Eeeeeeiiiiiiiii!!!!!!! MWAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Let’s notice this:

Sydney:

Round 2: Jelena Jankovic def. (1)Martina Hingis 6-3 7-6(4)

Round 3: Dinara Safina def. Jelena Jankovic 6-3 5-7 6-1

Canberra:

Round 1: Nicole Vaidisova def. (4)Martina Hingis 6-4 6-4

Round 2: (WC)Patty Schnyder def. Nicole Vaidisova 7-5 7-5

Rome:

Quarterfinals: Anastassia Rodionova def. (1)Martina Hingis 7-5 6-4

Semi-finals: (WC)Ashley Harkleroad def. Anastassia Rodionova 6-4 6-7(6) 6-3

Among the three women who defeated Martina Hingis this season, none of them were able to capitalize on the upset. Jankovic and Vaidisova’s careers are on respective freefalls as well, Vaidisova being more vocal about her displeasure with it more.

Let’s not even talk about the trend in doubles.

Salvaging the Week:
Well they did it. After obtaining the no.1 ranking in doubles maintaining their lead in the race, Lindsay Davenport & Martina Hingis have cemented their claim by actually winning their first title in their fourth consecutive finals appearance since Canberra.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/atlastrome.jpg
A Home at Rome.

With an uncharacteristic peal of joy, everyone knew how huge the moment was in the careers of the two women as their persistence since the beginning of the third season of the LTT finally paid off. Congratulations dears.

Peaking:
Well where did she come from? We all know her coach who led Serena Williams-Santoro to an Olympic medal and a Grand Slam doubles title at the Australian Open before but Ashley Harkleroad, who in fact was the original protégé of her coach before being replaced by Vera Zvonareva then by Williams-Santoro, has made a greater impact on the tour by claiming consecutive titles in her first few weeks on tour.

Last week, she returned with Chanda Rubin for payback against Davenport & Hingis who defeated them the previous week in Australia. After capturing the doubles titles and coming in as a wildcard entry this week, she stormed through the ranks of the LTT, taking out no.3 Anna Kournikova and no.5 Anastasia Myskina to claim her very first singles title.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/hark.jpg
Shining.

With a newly found commitment coupled with the same old synergy, this young lady’s career is startlingly shining.

Madrid:

Who Are You?

I’ll Take The Singles, The Doubles and Those Finals Too Please:
To the tagline question above, the correct response would be: “Catalina Castano, bitch!”

After placing great expectations on her past achievements by this tennis analyst, Catalina Castano of Colombia had camera lights and sports show interview microphones pushed in her face. Everyone wondered if she could indeed fulfill them.

Never mind. She did.

After finding out last minute that her bye had been taken back with the arrival of newcomer Marie Eve Pelletier, the Colombian shuddered yet played on. She would in fact “play on” in the succeeding rounds to reach her first singles final against another woman who surprised many this week, French Fantastique, Nathalie Dechy. Dechy had yet to drop a set all week and looked keen on taking out another seeded player in a cool and calculating campaign. Castano would have none of that bulldozer play of the Frenchwoman, rallying back from a possible mauling defeat by scraping and retrieving to take as many points as she could.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/nath.jpg
The Devastating French Fantastique.

The match ended without either woman realizing it. That’s how heated the two made the finals out to be much to the delight of the raucous Spanish crowd.

Singles no.1 & no.8 seeds would then team-up not only to upset former top team and no.1 seeds Justine Henin-Hardenne & Venus Williams to upset big babes Anna-Lena Groenefold & Alicia Molik, the no.2 seeds, for their first title together.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/Castano.jpg
Someone New.

Castano and Mirza then decided to announce their new permanent partnership after the retirement of Dinara Safina’s coach.

J & V & Those Retirees:
Well, they were successful in the most part that they managed to win a few matches but were they enough to make them stay?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/jhhenin.jpghttp://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/venus.jpg
A Pair on the Outed Route.

Henin-Hardenne & Williams seems poised to stay after finding out for the first time how it felt to face a friend as the opposition. That just made them want to do better and stick closer together it seems.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/Mysk.jpg
Looking for a Future:
The Victim of the Deceptive Nature of Wild Cards.

Myskina says she will stay and we will have to agree with Maria Sharapova: Myskina just didn't know who Harkleroad really was.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/silviatrain.jpg
Farina Re-training Camp.

Farina Elia remains committed to see what fortunes she can make out of her parting shot at the French Open campaigns.

Something Just As Suspect:
To make this straight and to the point, Monica Seles shouldn't be losing 6-2 6-0. Neither should Na Li actually. We're saying this because they played defensively rather than take advantage of the big shots that they are both known to be capable of producing yet forget about once they meet the top players. A little reminder might just work.

Overdrawn at the Memory Bank?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/lina.jpg
Or Fizzled Out?

The Mailbag Feature:
Maybe I should change this to "The Abused Mailbag Feature" soon. This is a most odd occasion for the mailbag as there seems to be only one topic lingering among our letter senders. Here are the ones that stood out the most:

Dear Miss Molitor, would Miss Hingis be interested in partnering with me next week at Roland Garros? I have a French Open title to prove that I’m a good choice too! Here is a picture of me to help convince her.

You didn’t write that yourself did you? Martina doesn’t have much love for French Open singles champions. Anyways you’ll have to explain this picture first:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/fr.jpg

Nice championship shots though.

French Open next week with me? Like a hippo jumping up and down a river, we could make big wave too. Here is me to help you make up your mind.
~Marat Safin's Hippo

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/marat.jpg

Sure. But only after you can explain this advertisement that we found:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/manwhore.jpg

But we're told we can keep the picture right?

Hello Martina, I saw you win the Australian Open. Also saw you don’t have a serve, wanna make use of mine? Pic attached.
~Andy Roddick

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/andy.jpg

Nice fist. Can it pump other things?

Dear young sweet Martina, I am willing to come out of retirement just to play with you at the French Open a.k.a. the only argument they can use to say I’m not the greatest tennis player ever. Come on, from one famous tennis personality to another? Look, I can match your press. I was in The Simpsons for crying out loud! Here is a special caricature of Martina and me too!
~Pete "Voted No.1 Ahead of Martina Navratilova in TENNIS Magazine's 40 Greatest Tennis Players Feature Article" Sampras

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/6.jpghttp://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/Sampras2.jpg

So was Venus Williams but we’re not exactly with her are we and aren’t you married?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/vwsimpsons.jpg

I’m a fan of Martina’s fashion sense and I think we’d make a beautiful championship team. Just look at what everyone will see with her!
~ Feli Is Girl

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/feli.jpg

Not with someone that good-looking. Martina would feel threatened with the spotlight possibly not on her.

Saw the white short sleeve/long sleeve tennis outfit that Miss Hingis had. Made me VERY interested to meet her next week. She could give someone THIS good-looking a private consultation.
~ Mr. Andreev

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/Igor.jpg

Martina doesn’t like helping the fashion competition. But you can be “friends.”

Please, we know Andy will e-mail Martina about being his new “partner.” We can’t allow it. Tell Martina to stay away from our special Andy. Look, I’ll give you Robby Ginepri to fool around with as a trade instead. This picture comes from my “special collection” personally. Think about it.
~ Fr. Patrick McEnroe & The US Davis Cup Choir

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/robby.jpg

Don’t worry Mr. Roddick is safe.

Martina will only trade Roger for Joachim Johansson anyway.

Or so I’m told.

To sum up an answer, we have a contractual agreement with Mister Roger Federer’s camp that he and Martina will play together for the entire season. In other words: back off! (for now) His words of course.

That’s all for this edition of The Weekly Melanie Monitor as brought to you by Melanie Molitor. Standby for this week's action and the proceeding analysis.

Myskina arrives in Paris.

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40631000/jpg/_40631836_myskina_getty_270.jpg
Anastasia Myskina arrived in Paris in
the early hoursof this morning,
following a short flight from Rome.

As the highest seeded Russian this week, and with Anna Kournikova and Kim Clijsters knocking on the doors of the top three, Anastasia Myskina has a lot of pressure to perform well here in Paris. However, the former world number one contradicted herself (and theories) last week, proving herself capable of greater achievements by reaching the Rome singles and doubles finals.

"Last week was important to me, because I needed that confidence to play well this week. I didn't expect to beat Ana or Kim and I really didn't expect to be in the final. I'm happy that I was able to rebound from that loss the week before.

The Qantas International winner heads into the tournament as the third seed, and a tournament favourite.

You know, I'm a very competitive girl. I like the competition side of things. For me, the first round is always the dangerous one. But, I feel I'm ready for anything this week."

Myskina will take on either American Jennifer Capriati, or Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek for a place in the third round.

'Farina Elia practising for FO'

14th seed Silvia Farina Elia has been given the worst possible draw for this years 2nd slam after drawing top seed and LTT best ever player Martina Hingis in the third round. Before that, the Italian faces a clash with Dinara Safina of Russia.

As well as the singles, Farina Elia is playing womens doubles with Canadian Stephanie Dubois and they face Anabel Medina-Garrigues and Marta Domachowska in the opening round, while in the mixed Silvia and fellow Italian Flippo Volandri get a 1st round bye.

Farina Elia said 'I try to be as honest as possible and the truth is that their isnt much hope of me going far in this tournament - Martina in a slam is really the toughest it gets! I just hope that I get to the third round and she is having an off day. I hope we have a great match because she is a good friend of mine and actually is a reason why I decided to stay on the tour!'

Why? Its not like Mixed matters, we only have 4 Tournies. :o

Well how about we don't run Mixed? :D I'd much prefer to be focusing on my arm then seeding teams and running an 'ADDITIONAL Event' during whats an already busy tournament.

We don't have time and unless, you wanted to play 3 matches in 1 day again, like in the AUS OPEN, then we'll seed you. :)

Thanks. :wavey:

Belgian #1: Kim Clijsters waves to her fans after she leaves from her first training session @ Roland Garros.

World Number Five, Kim Clijsters yesterday arrived in Paris ahead of the French Open beginning Wednesday.

A Semifinalist last week @ the Italian International Championships, Clijsters is still looking to capture her first ever LTT Singles Title. Despite losing to friend Anastasia Myskina last week in 3 sets, Clijsters is feeling confident about her chances this week at Roland Garros.

"Its difficult losing those tough matches. Unfortunately im yet to perform my best tennis beyond the semifinals and it is frustrating, but im confident in winning few matches as always and keeping up my consistency." said Clijsters

If everything goes to plan, Clijsters could face 11th seeded Lindsay Davenport yet again for the 4th time already this season, with Clijsters leading the H2H 3-0.

"Im much looking forward to hopefully playing Lindsay once again. We have great battles, and bring out the best tennis in both of us, its a great rivalry. I enjoy our matches very much"

Clijsters is featuring in 3 events at the FO, pairing up with Angela Haynes for Doubles & Carlos Moya for Mixed Doubles.

They are young, they are fast and they know how to smash!
The new generation has come to stay.
One of the new stars is Ashley Harkleroad. She is playing her only fourth tournament this year, and has already won a tournament. Quiet surprising after the start she had.
In Australian Open she partnered up with Chanda Rubin, which has been a good partnership bringing the couple a doublesvictory. But Ashley herself, did not proove her worth until last week when she as a wildcard entered the Rome Tournament full of confidence after the victory the earlier week with Rubin.
Ashley took out 3rd seed Anna Kournikova in the second round and from the on, did not look back.
"It was a good week. Most people would say that the biggest achievement was taking out Anne, I don't agree. It was so easy really. She's so slutty, I just wanted her out of the court, without me losing of course. And when she did bad, she pulled up in her dress to show of her legs. I guess she haven't been looking at them for long, cause her thighs were filled with cellulitis. I dunno what it's call, I'm so young and wont ever suffer from it"
Ashley faced Farina Elia in the final, who had had a really good tournament also. A lot of long matches, beating a lot of great great players.
This was maybe why she at the net had to say "congrats".
"Elia is really talented. People like Anna and Mashahahahhahaha don't see it, because they obviously don't like to look at others than themself, maybe some male pornmoviestars, I think Anna does look at them quiet often!"

Most people would still consider Anna P/K a young player with a bright future, possible as a number one and the same for Miss Sharapova, but Ashley don't quiet agree.
Of course they are young, but when you look at other players like Ivanovic, Chakwhatasillyname, Vaidisova and Groenefeld. There are players with a great career in front of them, Ivanovic already up there, but rumours says she's whitewashing, so maybe that's why.
I think a lot of old goodiebags will have a hard time dealing with us youngters, I can't proove it, only time will tell.

Ashley had a tough match taking out Sperm, who she also met in first round in Rome, but she made it and afterwards won the tournament. Will it be the same now?
As Ashley said, only time will tell!

Italian 14th seed Silvia Farina Elia showed all her experience and ability to pass new girl Russian Dinara Safina with out losing a game to advance to the second round where she faces Serbian Jelena Dokic. But back to the 1st round match, as soon as the players stepped out on to the Court Suzanne Lenglen you knew who the winner was going to be! Farina Elia bossed Safina round around the park and didnt allow Safina in.

Farina Elia said after the match 'Dinara is a new player and just needs time to develop. Today was a gentle match and didnt take anything out of me! I am looking forward to my next match against Dokic because I think my game is starting to come together'

Ana wins in mixed doubles

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/gallery/albums/RG/PRO/normal_05RG45.jpg

Ana Ivanovic paired up with Nikolay Davydenko of Russia to win their first roound of mixed doubles. They beat experienced pair, Lindsay Davenport and Jame Blake.

"I'm feel at ease with Nikolay. He's a fun person to be with. And he plays fantastic tennis. I'm here to relax and get more practice on clay."

Ana did not have stellar results on clay, losing to Anastassia Myskina the week before.

"I don't really like clay. But I'm trying my best to cope with the conditions."

Tomorrow, Ana is scheduled to play 2 matches, singles facing Flavia Pennetta and doubles with Anastassia Rodionova.

"I'm just going to take it easy and try to relax. And then, in doubles, I look forward to having fun with my wacky partner Rodionova."

I will just take it one match at a time because there are so many players with potential to win here. It will be tough today against Daniela but I beat her in straight sets last week or a few weeks ago, so that gives me confidence going into the match. Clijsters rallies into Rnd 16

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/610/212303clijsters158.jpg

World Number 5, Kim Clijsters was made to work hard against Anna Chakvetadze of Russia, the Belgium going through 3-6 6-4 6-1 in her second round match at the French Open on Friday.

Kim Clijsters needed all her battling qualities to reach the third round of the French Open on Friday, edging out unheralded Russian Anna Chkvetadze 3-6 6-4 6-1.

The fifth-seeded Belgian had looked in trouble after dropping the first set but dug deep, hitting eight aces as she recovered to clinch victory in one hour, 49 minutes.

"I was very surprised at how good she started the match, she was playing very well." said Clijsters

In the second set, the Russian broke Clijsters twice to lead 6-3 4-1, but Clijsters thought back winning the next 11 out of 12 games to defeat the up and coming Russian in three sets.

"It was definately tough," she sighed. "I was just trying to get every ball back deep and trying not to make too many errors, being 6-3 4-1 down, I was just begging for a little mercy."

"But I just tried to fight it out and tried to find a way, just an opening. In the third set, Anna went down alot in confidence, I felt really great and the conditions were a little lighter and the ball flew faster. I was able to hit shots that she wasn't able to run down in the end."

Clijsters tomorrow hits the court twice. Firstly playing ladies doubles with friend Angela Haynes and then a Mixed match with Carlos Moya.

Clijsters RND 16 opponent will be American power house, Lindsay Davenport. Clijsters has faced Davenport, three times already this season and has yet to lose a match against the American.

Sharapova arrives in Paris

http://www.mariaworld.net/offcourt47.jpg

Paris, France.

The sixth seeded, Princess Shyperova arrived at Paris on Friday night, a day before her first match in the second Grand Slam of the season, Roland Garros. The Russian starlet, who was ousted early last week in Rome, looked tired and restless but was confident that she could do well on the Grand Slam.

"After last week's early loss, I had fun playing doubles, you know, with the Porn Star. Then we lost, I went away from the tour for a while to take a break from tennis. Then my manager had me doing all the modelling and photoshoot all over the Europe."

"Last week's loss wasn't so bad. You know, I admit, I havent trained hard enough these days and I already have my first match tomorrow. And it's crucial for me. I want to stay on top. And an early loss again would be suck."

RD32 Daniela Hantuchova(SVK)/Pete Sampras(USA) def. Patty Schnyder(SUI)/Stanislas Wawrinka(SUI) 6-4, 6-4

She has had a pretty good tournament. She started the week with a not-so-convincing win over good friend Jelena Jankovic.

http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/ng/sp/ap_photo/20050730/all/l1507229.jpg

After dropping the first set 6-0 in 33 minutes, Patty knew she had to fight. Jelena was hitting from corner-to-corner and Patty's usually amazing defensive skills didn't help her one bit.

"In my first match with Jelena, I felt like my movement was a little off compared to my usual standards. I kept hitting the ball too short and she was just creaming the ball into the corners. There wasn't much I could've done in that first set."

In the second set, Patty started to get more conviction on her shots. She was the one dictating play, running Jelena around. She did get a little help in that set, however. Jelena's serve went off. She even framed a few of them into the back fence. Needless to say, Patty won the set 6-3.

"I finally started feeling my shots at about 2-2 in the second set. She got a little tight, I think, and I took advantage of it. I started moving my serve around more, not to mention I was getting almost all of my first serves in. I really felt like I had grabbed the momentum heading into that third set.

In the third set, both started shakily as they were both nervous as it is their first match at the French Open. After breaking Jelena to love to start, Patty was immediately broken back to level at 1-1. They kept breaking each other until Patty finally held at *4-3. She then broke Jankovic for the match.

"I was a little more relieved than excited to win that match. It was a match that she probably should have won, but she is a good player. I think she is very dangerous when she is on. That third set was so weird though. It was really sunny so both of us had serving problems. I'm just happy I came through in the end.

In her second match, Patty took on the young Canadian, Stephanie Dubois. Dubois had upset number 12 seed Chanda Rubin in her previous match.

http://www.tenniscanada.ca/federation/news_photos/dubois03-small.jpg

This was a pretty straight foward match, with not too many surprises. After breaking Dubois in the third game of the match, each player held their serves until Patty finally held on at *5-4 to win her the first set. Each were playing a relatively high quality of tennis with both ending up with double the winners to unforced errors.

"I thought I played an excellent first set. It was kind of like Pete Sampras's old strategy of getting one break each set and holding the rest of your service games. She has a pretty nice serve so I knew that if I could break her just one time, I could take the set. It was definitely a fun match to play."

In the second set, things were even tighter. After exchanging breaks in the middle of the set, Dubois broke Schnyder again at 4-4 to serve for the set at *5-4. After leading 30-0, Dubois seemed to have a scared look on her face. Schnyder swung freely from that point on and miraculously, her shots started to land in. She didn't drop another game after that as she took the match, 6-4, 7-5.

"I am pleased to reach the 3rd Round at another Grand Slam. In Australia, I lost to Anna in three sets so I hope my fortunes can be better on Monday. Steph showed that she's got game. It seems like when players have a lead against me, they seem to let up a bit. Jelena did it and Stephanie today. Maybe it's a good thing that I'm able to take advantage of their mental lapses. One thing's for sure though: Not many players that are left in the tournament are just going to give me the match. I will have to earn it."

This should be the case in her next match against Eighth seeded Monica Seles. Seles, who has a very aggresive game, will surely present a tough challenge for Schnyder but she is ready.

Myskina through in Paris.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40230000/jpg/_40230875_jenn300_getty.jpg
Jennifer Capriati fell in straight sets to third seed Anastasia Myskina.

FROM ROLAND GARROS - In the heat of the French clay, Russian Anastasia Myskina sported a new "French Open gown" for her opening match of the Grand Slam today, against Jennifer Capriati. Seeded third this week, Myskina continued her blistering form as we saw in Rome, penetrating the ball with visible ease.

"I was very pleased with my game today. I was timing the ball well and not rushing myself. My movement was good, but I would like to be a bit quicker on the court," commentes Myskina following her 6:2, 7:5 win.

"Jennifer was strong, especially from the back of the court. I had to dig deep to win the points, more so in the second set."

Myskina now faces her Grand Slam champion doubles partner, Daniela Hantuchova who upset fifteenth seed Catalina Castano in three sets. This marks the first time that the winning pair have met on opposite ends of the court.

Myskina admits, she'll have it tough against Hantuchova tomorrow.
"It's gonna be difficult. It's always difficult whenever you're playing someone close. We know each other's game pretty well, so really, it could go either way."

Farina Elia Powers Her Way Into 3rd Round!

http://www.tennisrulz.com/players/farina/gallery/030.jpg

With the lose of only 5 games so far, Italian Silvia Farina Elia has powered her way into the final 16 of the French Open after taking out Jelena Dokic in two sets 6-2 6-3 on Court 1 and now takes on top seed Martina Hingis in a mouth-watering clash, expected on the centre court. This tournament, Farina Elia has really found her feet and has played some amazing tennis from the back of the court and should pose a great threat to Hingis.

Farina Elia said after the match 'I was just to good for Jelena today! I am getting more and more confident with each round and cant wait to have a go at Martina now. She is a true champion and a great friend but now its my turn to shine and I really think if I can dictate the points I should be able to win!'

Groenefeld, Haas Ousted

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/659/8556462groenfeld.jpg
Anna-Lena screams as she loses to Justine Henin-Hardenne and Lleyton Hewitt.

Roland Garros, France - Anna-Lena Groenefeld, the young bombshell from Germany, lost with her partner, German Tommy Haas, to the ever-tough tandem of Justine Henin-Hardenne and Lleyton Hewitt by a score of 6-4 6-2.

"They were too tough out there today," Groenefeld said. "Experience showed today."

The match proved to be one-sided, as the German team was no match for Henin-Hardenne and Hewitt, who went for winners in every point.

"It was amazing to have taken 6 games off of them," she said. "They were just on the mark today."

Though Tommy Haas packs up, Anna-Lena won't be doing that just yet. She still has the singles and doubles event to play. Tomorrow she will face--you guessed it--Justine Henin-Hardenne. In doubles, she may face Justine Henin-Hardenne and her partner Venus Williams in the Quarterfinals.

"They are all going to be tough matches," she said. "But I hope to get at least one win over Justine."

JHH pumps her fist after defeating ALG. JHH def. ALG 6-4, 6-3.

PARIS, FRANCE: Justine Henin-Hardenne has just made it into the Quarter-Finals. J.Henin-Hardenne (BEL) def. A.L.Groenfeld (GER) 6-4, 6-3. It was a terrific performance, from both ladies, but JHH really turned up her game. For some reason she is starting to play fantastic tennis here at Roland Garros. She is really having a great time, and looks very at peace within herself.

"This is so much fun. I cannot believe I am into the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros. This is such a great experience. But I need to concentrate on my next opponenet. She is really tough, and I have struggled a lot against her."

JHH next plays Kim Clijsters, also from Belgium. An all Belgian Quarter-Final, so either way a Belgian will be in the Semi-Finals. But JHH really wants it to be the one to conquer this time, as she has fallen in the past. So good luck JHH!
