Ana feels the pressure

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/gallery/albums/Linz05/normal_linz14.jpg

Ana Ivanovic may be the second seed in Monte Carlos, but she doesn't have a title. Being seeded so high and without a title adds pressure to this young Serbian.

"It's tough. Being seeded so high, people expect u to win titles. If not, that would not justify my ranking. I guess I have to work on my mental game and hopefully add my first title here in Monte Carlo."

In Wellington, Castano lost to Benesova in the 1R in three sets, and then Benesova made the final. At the AO, Castano lost to Hingis in the 2R (in Martina's first match) and then Hingis won the final! Hopefully Catalina can do something decent here! :D

Wow Castano and Safina play Schnyder and Palkina for the third time  Good luck everyone!

DONT send points from 1-13 and 13-1, as its not a good strategy. And just becareful sending the same points in all 3 sets. It would be best if you mixed it up a bit!

Jelena Jankovic left her best tennis at home as she failed to win a match in Monte Carlo this week.

Serbian youngster Jelena Jankovic failed to impress as she lost 60 75 to Elena Bovina in the opening round of the Tier 1A event in Monte Carlo. Jankovic lost the first set in a devastating 19 minutes and failed to gain her range or confidence as the match wore on.

"I couldn't really ever get into a rhythm today. Elena is a very talented clay-court player."

The Russian hit 4 aces and pushed her inexperienced opponent into 47 errors. The Serb also hit 3 double faults in a match where Bovina shockingly dominated.

"I don't know what went wrong. I am so motivated but, you know, I really expected to win a few rounds here."

The match was over in an hour and 12 minutes with Jankovic near tears.

Anna-Lena Loses Again

http://sport.ard.de/sp/tennis/news200506/16/img/groenefeld_150_dpa.jpg
Anna-Lena couldn't come up with a winning formula.

Monte Carlo, Monaco - Anna-Lena Groenefeld, the newcomer from Germany, failed to win a match this week at the Monte Carlo Masters. In a 3-hour match, Anna-Lena lost to Chanda Rubin in three very tight sets, losing 6-4 3-6 7-6(0).

"This was a tough defeat," said Groenefeld. "It's always tough to lose, but I feel like today it should've been mine."

This was the second early loss in a row for Groenefeld, as she lost early in Melbourne as well. Frustration clearly set in.

"It's hard to play these girls," admitted Groenefeld. "They're really tough players."

After a sizzling debut, Anna-Lena Groenefeld has failed to make any kind of mark on the tour, both in singles and doubles. "I may seem like I'm in a slump," said Groenefeld. "I hope I'm not. I'll try to pull out of it next week."

Ana overcomes Pierce in merciless thrashing

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/gallery/albums/Rome/normal_Rome26.jpg

Ana Ivanovic gave no mercy to Mary Pierce as she overpowered her in 45 minutes to win 6-1 6-1. However, Ana lost in doubles.

"I was striking the ball very well today. Every shot I hit was good. I hope to continue the form. In doubles, Anastassia and me struggled as Rodionova doesn't really like clay. I tried my best but Dechy/Krajicek were too consistent. It's a blessing in disguise as I would be able to concentrate fully on singles."

In the top half, only one seed is left standing, Martina Hingis.

"It's a shock. Today the unseeded players proved that they have nothing to lose and gave their all. I'll try to be wary of them. Hopefully, I can win a title this week."

Myskina suffers shock loss; hints early retirement.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41176000/jpg/_41176581_myskina-ap200.jpg
Myskina's form has been suffering
ever since she captured her first
title on the LTT tour.

Three weeks ago, it seemed like nothing could go wrong for 24 year-old Anastasia Myskina. Reaching the semifinals in Tokyo at the Motorola Cup, then later capturing the Tier IA in Sydney to complete her campaign to be become the best tennis player in the world certainly gifted her world-wide fame and popularity. However now, both her mind and her physical performance are clearly suffering.

Myskina fell in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters to the hands of Steffi Graf- a player ranked outside the world's top 45 players.

Words are somewhat unnecessary to describe Myskina's obvious annoyance at her own self, and at her coach.

Following the shock defeat, Myskina spoke to tennis reporters.

"Last week, I felt so passionate to win the Grand Slam. I really, really wanted to prove to everyone that I was the best. After I lost to Martina (Hingis), I felt like a failure- like I was supposed to live up to expectations. I felt really pathetic. I've done a lot of thinking since that defeat, and now I feel I've achieved everything I can. Winning the doubles title with Daniela is a moment I can cherish for the rest of my life, and it's the time where I thought I had achieved as much as I possibly could. I never expected to be the best singles and doubles player in the world, just like I never dreamt I would be the first Russian to win a tour title, or even to be a Grand Slam doubles champion. But now I think about it, I just don't feel I've got much else left in me. It's really tough to leave something you feel really passionate about, you know, but sometimes you have to know when to quit. I don't want to make a decision just yet, but I just want people to know how I feel. If the results don't improve ... then I'll know when to leave."

Exhausted Clijsters Shocked at Monte Carlo Masters

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/610/12003-syd9.jpg
Zvonareva defeats. Clijsters 7-5 6-4

Unseeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia upset world No. 4 Kim Clisters of the Belgium 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The Russian-born Zvonareva ran down nearly every ball Clijsters threw at her in an intense baseline battle between two on the clay at Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday.

Clijsters recovered from a 5-3 first-set deficit to tie it 5-5, with both players winning some magnificent points after long rallies, but Zvonareva held service and then saw Clijsters make unforced errors on the final two points of the match.

"My ankle wasn't hurting in the first set. I simply had a bad start,'' said Clisters, who received a first-round bye. "I couldn't get my rhythm. I was missing my shots. I set it up for her to dictate the points. In the first set I wasn't even playing tennis.''

"Clay is not my best surface to play on I guess, Vera took advantage of my hopeless tennis today. I need to rest, im feeling very exhausted"

In other tennis news, yesterday was not a good day for all seeds as 8 out of 14 seeds lost in the second round of the first clay tournament of the season. 5 of them were seeded in the TOP 8.

(3)Kournikova, (4)Clijsters, (5)Myskina & (7)Haynes were among the favourites that were shocked in round two, by unknown opponents.

"It happens and life goes on, yes its very dissapointing and upsetting, but its just only one match and a new surface. This match will help me improve my game plan/tactics." Clijsters said.

Last week, Ana Ivanovic defeated Silvia Farina Elia of Italy 6-7 6-2 6-3. This week, it was the same result for this 2 players. Ana gets her 2nd consecutive win over the veteran.

"Silvia ran out of gas in the 2nd and 3rd set. So I was able to capitalise. We always have close matches and it's a shame someone had to lose. Silvia is someone who I respect."

Next up for Ana is Maria Sharapova, the 6th seed.

"It's going to be tough. Maria is finding back her form and looks good to go far in the tournament. Hopefully I can scrape pass her tomorrow."

Monte Carlo.

Princess Sharapova surprised nobody when she reached the quarterfinal of LTT Monte Carlo Masters. Princess Sharapova dropped her first service game of the match against Catalina Castano, but it did not deter the progress of the champion, who moved closer to winning her first title with a 6-4 6-4 victory. It was not the smoothest of passages into the last eight.
Eventually, after an hour and twenty minutes, Sharapova watched Castano's final shot sail long on the match-point and fell to her knees in relief and triumph.

"It was much tougher than I had expected. However, I guess I had myself to blame. I didn't prepare for the match at all this week, so to be able to reach this far is kinda surprising to me. Usually I beat scrubs in more raping way. Today, I was just way off but barely squeezed through, yet again."

"It was good that I had to fight for it. When you are in tough situations, you need to be tough mentally. When you are not playing your best and the game is going to the wire, you have to figure out a way of winning."

"I would love to win my first title here, but like I said, I am not prepared this week. And having to meet Bitchanovic doesn't help either. She owned me like her barbie doll. Look at my previous two matches with her. It was either a brick fell out of nowhere or I broke my nails. Something weird just happens whenever I meet her."

"I don't know whats the fuss about Myskina's retirement. She lost to Hingis, the eventual champion. She won the double event. This week, she lost her first round match and so did 8497543 other seeded players. And after 4 weeks, she claimed that she had accomplished everything? There'd be only one Princess in the tour and thats moi. I started the retirement issue, so please, get a new story."

The Silent Campaign
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/TheSilentCandidate7.jpg
The Silent Candidate in
HER OFFICIAL CLAY SEASON OUTFIT.

Monte Carlo, Monaco – Ah Monaco, the land of gambling and tax breaks. Speaking of gambling, the women of the LTT are here after the punishing rebound ace season to test their skills on the slower clay courts of Europe.
With that in mind, the change in court surface has also effected a change in fortunes for many of the top players.

Day one, aside from no.10 Lindsay Davenport crashing in the first round after trying to be too clever and underestimating her opponent, was pretty normal. Oh, no.9 Anastassia Rodionova was also ousted, this time by Serena Williams who used the simple fact that she could hit harder and harder than the top ten player to score an upset.

Day two was the odd day in the office as all of a sudden, re-crowned tour no.1 and two time Australian Open Ladies Champion Martina Hingis found herself all alone in the top half.

No.15 Dinara Safina OUT

N.7 Angela Haynes OUT

No.3 Kim Clijsters OUT

No.16 Elena Dementieva OUT

No.12 Karolina Sprem OUT

No.5 Anastasia Myskina OUT

And the surprising thing was, except for Elena Dementieva, the others went out in straight sets.

This of course hasn’t been the oddest day in LTT history. Who could forget Season One in Iceland when only one seeded player was left standing after the second round?

Nevertheless, this is one odd outing that is in the records.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/TheSilentCandidate5.jpg
Slicing away at the opposition in
HER OFFICIAL CLAY SEASON OUTFIT.

The bottom half was more stable as only two seeds failed to be upset, one of those being AO semi-finalist Anna Kournikova. No.2 Ana Ivanovic brushed aside Mary Pierce of France to bookmark the day with the two top seeds and AO finalists registering straight set wins.

It also ended with former tour no.1 and AO Doubles Champion Anastasia Myskina hinting she was done with her career. Originally, Myskina was supposed to have taken the week off but played anyway after winning the doubles championship.

The trials and tribulations of former doubles no.1s Venus Williams & Justine Henin-Hardenne continued as they failed in the singles yet again.

Day three and the whole trials and tribulations thing continued but this time with Silvia Farina-Elia who will be playing her final event next week on home soil.

Day four began with Martina Hingis opening things once again as she has had to face new opponents in Tatiana Golovin in the third round and today, Na Li of China in the quarterfinals. Both girl proved their upsets showed that they had promise, making the Swiss Miss work for her victories.

Other winners were Steffi Graf over Vera Zvonareva in an entertaining nail-biter that ended with a third set tiebreak.

In the bottom half, Iveta Benesova caused one more upset by defeating Monica Seles.

And finally, Maria Sharapova defeated Ana Ivanovic.

In doubles, Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis are the remaining seeded pair after The Russian Dolls (Anna Kournikova & Maria Sharapova) were beaten by Americans Chanda Rubin & Ashley Harkleroad. The no.3 seeds will now compete in their fifth consecutive semi-final in as many weeks.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/Maatreiya/TheSilentCandidate6.jpg
An expression of relief after a hard day's victory in
HER OFFICIAL CLAY SEASON OUTFIT.

As of now, Martina Hingis, the Silent Candidate, is having a resurgence of form. Losing the no.1 ranking after two straight losses in the tune-up events fr the AO after she won the inaugural event in Beijing, she has clawed back to the top.

Lindsay Davenport, in a post-match interview after their doubles win, joked that, “Maybe I should shut my mouth as much as Martina does these days. It seems to be working quite awesomely for her. Nah, too many people want to talk to me.”

Despite some criticism that she has been more aloof and perhaps even snobbish the past two weeks, Miss Martina Hingis continues on with her sabbatical from the media. Nobody blames her much and a handful of the tour veterans still show their support by applauding her just the same when she wins and sympathizes when she fails, seeing that focusing on her game rather than off-court activities has brought much good to her tennis.

This however, is one trend which the tour directors may not wish to catch on as advertisers and tournaments NEED the women of the LTT to generate interest for everyone to stay motivated by making their personalities felt. Miss Hingis would much rather sit the glamour aspect out, letting her mother and colleagues do the talking.

Good luck, Miss Hingis.
