Myskina set for Grand Slam.

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2005-01/18/xin_1601021814192521946913.jpg
After falling to Russian Anna Kournikova last week in three sets, World number one Anastasia Myskina will be hoping to extend her lead over her compatriot.

"Last week I was very disappointed with my result. Being here in Melbourne is great, and I'm looking forward to hopefully improve on my results this week. You know, it's very tough for me to stay positive about most things, but I just have to remember I am the best player, and I deserve the top position, even if I don't feel as if I do."

Myskina will take on either Chinese sensation Na Li or Czech riser Iveta Benesova in the second round this week. In the doubles, Anastasia Myskina partners Daniela Hantuchova, and they take on the Russian combination of Nadia Petrova and Maria Kirilenko.

Patty arrives

http://www.patty-schnyder.com/offcourt55.jpg
Schnyder sees the sights in Melbourne.

After finally winning matches last week in Canberra, Patty Schnyder is anxious for the Australian Open to start. "I want to win some matches here at the Aussie Open and continue to rise up the ranks." After her quarterfinal showing last week in Canberra, Patty is on the verge of entering the top 20 in singles. Her draw is not a favorable one although she has a good chance of reaching the rd. of 16. In her first match, she plays young Russian Maria Kirilenko. If she wins, then she could face number 16 seed Nicole Vaidisova. Patty beat Vaidisova 7-5, 7-5 last week. In the rd. of 16, she will most likely face number two seed Anna Kournikova.

In doubles, Patty and Ksenia Palkina are the eigth seeds and they will take on the pair of Mary Pierce and Karolina Sprem. Best of luck to Patty and Ksenia!

Happy Harkleroad to make happy debut

The gorgeous Miss Ashley Harkleroad is to make debut in the Grand Slam Australian Open, that if is the directors will let her.
http://www.ashley-harkleroad.com/gallery02/187.jpg

"I just signed up, and I am very positive about my entrance. The directors and I have talked about it, and you know, a blow job really makes a difference"

Ashley is a rookie, and has yet to play her first tournament, but according to herself, she is really positive and thinks that she deserves to be in the draw. She has the talented Nath Lee as coach, who herself has been a very talented tennisplayer, and sure knows what she is doing.

"Ashley is a great player, for sure, but you also need an awesome coach to get somewhere, so she is very lucky to have me", was the comment from the famous coach, who is also known for her fantastic beauty.
Ashley is at the moment without doublespartners, but she told the reporter, that if she finds one and they play good at the Open, she sure will consider the thought of being regular partners.
Also is she looking for a male, and adds
"He gots to look good, and turn me on, then I play the best. I have been keeping a picture of F-R-E-A-K for practising the last couple of weeks, and I'm very much on fire, if you know what I mean? Also, he has to satisfy me sexually, because my gorgeous boyfriend, Fredrik Ljungberg, is in England to play soccer"

If Harkleroad gets into the maindraw is still unsure, but we at this newxpaper will keep up to date!

Farina Elia To Retire!

http://www.wtatour.com/global/photogallery/ameliaisland/f_00.jpg

Italian Silvia Farina Elia has announced that she will retire from the LTT circuit after the Italian Open following an extremely disappointing return to the game. So Far, Farina Elia has won 1 match and lost in the opening round of the last three events and has stressed that she isnt on the tour just to make up the numbers and if she isnt successful, she knows when the times is ready to go. Farina Elia has yet to win a doubles match either this season.

Silvia released a statement saying 'I regret to inform you that Rome will be my last tournament. I had a really good feeling about coming back and expected great results but I am losing to players, who arent very good and thats the worst thing! I am just hoping that then Australian Open will bring some good memories for me!'

Jelena Jankovic gives an interview before she begins her quest for the Australian Open.

THE MODERATOR: Questions for Jelena.

Q: How do you feel coming in here?
JJ: You know, I feel confident but not cocky. Trying to make myself ready without getting over excited.

Q: Do you feel like there is a lot of talk around your victory over Martina Hingis?
JJ: I definitely feel this way. Too much talk. I mean, look at Martina's results. She isn't really living up to her seedings these days and her ranking's already dropping. I have been called Jelena "Hingis Killer" and that isn't something I wish to, you know, be called.

Q: You're playing Safina in the opening round here in Melbourne. How do you think your game will match with hers?
JJ: We've actually already played once and it was right after I beat Martina. I was sort of unprepared physically and mentally to step on court the day after such a, you know, huge win for me. I really ran out of gas at the end and, you know, I look forward to this.

Q: A bit of a grudge match for you?
JJ: I guess, you know, you could say that.

Q: Best of luck in the upcoming event, Jelena, and thank you for your time.
JJ: Thank you.

Kuznetsova Hopes For Improvement In Form

http://sportserver.nandomedia.com/ips_rich_content/598-kuzetnova.jpg

Kuznetsova arrives in Melbourne in the hope of pulling off a few upsets and finally fulfilling her potential at the Australian Open.

'As the year has progressed my form has dipped, and I am now struggling to even put any wins together. But I realise that it is a tough ask to pull it off this tournament as I have world number one, and good friend, Myskina looming in the third round, if I manage to make it that far.'

It's Venus here and I'm in Melbourne, Australia for the Australian Open! Guys, I'm really excited to be here and I really want to bring home the trophy for my adoring fans. I can't wait to get onto the court to play my First Round match.

I'm up against Sesil Karatanchewatevahernameis. I'm happy that I have an easier Round of 32 match to play, just so I can get my feet in the water, you know? I'm sure she hits a good ball, but I've got something to prove. I've lost my first three matches on LTT and I am eager to show everybody who the "fucking Venus Williams is"...excuse me Lord Jehovah.

Well, I want to thank everybody for your support! I'm going to take the title and bring it down to Miami...

Clijsters Arrives

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/3103/21238787541clijsters.jpg

World Number 3 Kim Clijsters arrives in Melbourne

Australian Open - Pre-Tournament Interview.

Question: First Grand Slam of the year. What are your chances here and for the rest of the season?

Kim Clijsters: I am really excited. I have had a really positive and exciting start to the tour, and I am really psyched. Im playing well and im feeling positive and confident about my chances this week.

Question: After reaching your first final last week in singles, how are you feeling?

Kim Clijsters: Ofcourse im feeling great, Im slightly dissapointed with my loss to Anna, but im now focusing ahead and just trying to make my game better and better.

Question: You have moved up in the rankings, now ranked #3, do you feel more pressure?

Kim Clijsters: A little, but I really try to not focus on these things and really focus on my tennis matches, thats most important to me, not my ranking.

Question: You have a BYE and then a possible match against compatriot Justine Henin-Hardenne, your thoughts?

Kim Cllijsters: You know, we've played once already and we really had a battle. Justine is a very talented player, its never easy playing her. It will be tough no matter what.

Question: It's a long way, but you could possibly meet 6th seed Maria Sharapova in the Quarterfinals, do you have anything to say?

Kim Clijsters: About her? Sharapova?

Question: Yes and the possible QF match?

Kim Clijsters: I have no comments on it, I have to win my second round match first.

Question: Doubles again this week? With Angela?

Kim Clijsters: Yes, its great fun. We are great friends and really enjoy playing together, win or lose.

Question: And Mixed Doubles w/ Carlos Moya?

Kim Clijsters: ahuh, ive decided to play all 3 events this GS event.

Question: When do you hit the practice courts?

Kim Clijsters: I will have a 30minute light training session this afternoon, but my intense training starts tomorrow.

Question: Good luck Kim.

Kim Clijsters: Thank You.

Miss gorgeous in the draw

http://www.wtatour.com/global/photos/150x200/80418.jpg
The beautiful blond girl from Georgia, USA, made it to the draw. She is now up against some seed girl Rodi-something.
This is the first tournament for Ashley, and we met up with her for brunch after early-morning practise.

Hi miss Ashley. How do you feel about making it to the main draw?
I'm pretty happy I guess, because now I can proof my worth, and I show them that even though your blonde, you can still kick ass.

How do you feel about your opponent?
Never heard of her. I kinda don't know too many of the other players, but Golovin is nice. I can't wait to kick her ass in this tournament. I don't know when we'll meet, but we both rock, so it'll be sooner or later

Is your boyfriend here to support you?
Yeah, Freddie actually had a modelling job in Japan this weekend, so he's actually on the plane as we speak, coming here to satisfy me and cheer on me. It's super duper!
Fredrik Ljungberg, http://webpages.charter.net/obliquity/freddiel.jpgSwedish soccerstar dating Ashley

Which of the players do you fear the most?
None... Well, since I'll play doubles with Rubin, she'll get to see how good I am, so she wont be surpriced if we meet, but besides her, none... I rock!

Ana Ivanovic practises for first Grand Slam

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/cpg133/albums/AO/normal_AO09.jpg

Ana Ivanovic arrived in Melbourne late yesterday and she was already practising her strokes by the next morning. Ana, the 4th seed, admits she's been a little bit tired by her busy schedule.

"The past 2 weeks have been hectic. I reached both singles and doubles semi-finals for 2 consecutive weeks. I'm glad I took a few days to rest after my loss in Wellington."

As the 4th seed, Ana looks good to go far in the tournament.

"I can't really say I'm a top player. I had 2 very good weeks. That's all. Top players have the ability to play well throughout the whole season. I just take one match at a time and do my best to win it."

Hey Guys! :wavey:

Let me tell you, what a few GREAT matches.

S.Peer had a great match against (10)M.Seles, kept me guessing throughout the whole match. Great set of points and if against another opponent would have advanced to Rnd 32. Though (10)Seles was just too strong.

A.Stevenson just sent her points in time. ;) Very solid game. Advancing through to Rnd 32, up-setting (14)S.Dubois.

(13)S.Kuznetsova seemed to have a bad day at the office, losing easily in straight sets to M.Shaughnessy. Shaughnessy played strong, and (13)Kuznetsova seemed to have her strategies all wrong.

Congratulations to C.Castano, M.Krajicek, E.Bovina and A.Molik for winning your first singles match. :bounce:

NOTE: If your Doubles partner lost due to NO POINTS in singles, dont worry, we have kept previous singles points for doubles. As each of you guys sent us your new points, we deleted your old points. 52/56 players sent in new points.

Hope you liked the results set-up! :wavey:

Wins over Chakvetadze 6-3 6-4

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/647/21238791270molik.jpg

I have realised this morning at my training session at outside court, I really need to raise my bar and train hard if I want to fulfill my dream to do well this week at my home country, my coach has been mentoring mentally and physically also encouraging me to play smart with 100% accuracy also try to play clean and to avoids making UE's if I want to win the match againts Chakvetadze.

I was a little bit nervous coming into the Margaret Court even though I am sure the crowd will be behind me, and they were all the way of the match. I am just happy to win and reach the next round, and hopefully I will continue my winning streak.

http://eltiempo.terra.com.co/depo/noticias/IMAGEN/IMAGEN-2527017-0.jpg

Colombian Catalina Castano advanced to the second round of the Australian Open, Melbourne, in a tough battle against Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues. Castano took the first set 6-4 but dropped the next 6-3, after some beautiful play from Medina-Garrigues but Castano made quite a number of errors. However, Castano held her nerve to win the battle, 6-4 3-6 7-5 after trailing 5-4 and Medina Garrigues was serving for the match. After the match, Castano had a few words to say to the press: 'I am so happy to win another match, especially in the Australian Open. I love it here and I love being able to participate...all the players and officials are really nice to me. I just am loving the tour at the moment. Bad luck to Anabel today (pause) she played very nice and I guess that I was lucky to play well in the tighter stages of the final set. It was a fun match and I hope and (that) I can get further into the tournament this week.'

Davenport Through Against Graf

http://www.wtatour.com/global/photos_rx/davenport_5991_rx.jpg

Lindsay Davenport had a though test yesterday, however is looking strong. The secodn match on the Rod Laver Arena was a tough test for both players, however Davenport managed to keep the ball moving at a fast pace and win 7-6(6) 6-7(6) 6-3.

Up next for the American is Jelena Jankovic. A friend of Davenport's, who defeated 12th seeded Dinara Safin 6-0 2-0 before the Russian withdrew due to heat exhaustion.

"Well today was so great. Thankfully i was albe to pull through. The Rod Laver Arena had some tought matches today. I was glad Seles was able to win today as well.

Yeh, so up next is Jankovic, she is a great player and hits the ball nice and clean, but i am hoping that i can come through it and keep advancing in the draw, but now my mind is set of the second round.

It was a shame that me and Blake lost in the mixed doubles but Sprem and Ancic were just the better players out there today, so there is nothing i can do expect focues on singles right now."

Benesova Returns Backhand

Benesova was still red hot from last weeks Final in Wellington where she lost to Rodinova in 3 tight sets. She beat up and coming Chinawoman Li, Na 6-3 6-3 to race into the second round of the Grand Slam. She's up against World Number One Myskina, where she hopes to put up a fight, for Myskina to score her first win at Australian Open. Benesova stated, "The Australian Open is vast becoming my favourite event, and I'm hungry to win here. I think I can push some of the top players and maybe be a real outsider to win the event. I'm also hoping to do well in both the Mixed and Womans Doubles too."

Jelena Jankovic overpowered a tired Dinara Safina into submission on day one at the Australian Open

Serbian youngster Jelena Jankovic spent just 28 minutes on court today after a retirement from Russia's Dinara Safina. Safina failed to put up a fight due to her struggle with heat exhaustion and retired down 60 20 to the powerful Jankovic.

"Dinara was obviously, you know, not at her best today. I wish she would have, you know, been able to play longer. I am really going to need to be prepared when I play Davenport."

Jankovic hit 2 aces and 1 double fault, 13 winners and 6 errors. She received no resistance from Safina, who was clearly suffering from the sweltering heat.

"I feel bad for Dinara definitely. I would not want my first grand slam to go that way, so I feel for her, you know."

Jankovic plays doubles with Lucie Safarova and has teamed up with Frenchman Gael Monfils for the mixed doubles event.

"I can't wait. I always, you know, tend to enjoy doubles."

Venus wins in Singles and Mixed in Melbourne

http://gblx.cache.el-mundo.net/elmundodeporte/especiales/2002/01/australia/imagenesalbums/williamscuartos.jpg

American, Venus Williams, won her first Singles match on the LTT Circuit against Sesil Karatancheva, the Bulgarian powerhouse. It was a great match for Venus, as she swiped the teenager 7-6(4), 6-3 in just one hour and twelve minutes.

"It was a good match for me, my first win. I'm a player that likes to get into a rhythm at the Grand Slams and I was able to pull this match out. This is one of the many matches I plan to win here, in Australia. I didn't come across the world to lose," Venus told the press after her match.

Venus was also a winner in Mixed Doubles, where she teamed with Spanish hunk, Juan Carlos Ferrero, to defeat Mary Pierce and Ivo Karlovic 1-6, 6-1, 6-3. The match was filled with hard serving, especially by Williams and Karlovin, but in the end, mind won over matter.

"Mary is a good player, definitely. But, Ivo is just a server and he hasn't got much talent," Venus mentioned, "I'm surprised we lost the first set so easily." Venus' partner, Juan Carlos Ferrero, was a good addition to the team. "Juan is beautiful and, more importantly, a good tennis player, and he compliments my game."

Top seed Anastasia Myskina prepares for Benesova.

http://www.tennis-ontheline.com/pics/05ao/05ozanastasia%20myskina13.jpg
Myskina has been beaten on just two occasions on the tour, but says she's going to have it tough against Czech riser Iveta Benesova.

"She's a very good player, that's for sure. I think on paper, I'm the favourite but when you compare the two of us, I think it's much more even. But yeah, I'm not going to go out there and be thinking "Oh, she's about my standard, I'll let her make the first move", you know? I'm here to win, and I promised myself after last week that the best is what I can be".

Patty Opens With a Win In Melbourne

http://www.wanadoo.mg/medias/img/SGE.ECM43.240105105930.photo02.quicklook.default-245x207.jpg
Schnyder raises her arms in victory

Patty Schnyder needed three sets to overcome Russian Maria Kirilenko in the Rd. of 64 of the Australian Open. Schnyder, who is coming off of a quarterfinal finish in Canberra, started slow and finished strong. After dropping the first set 6-4, Schnyder began to get down on herself. Having lead 3-1 (40-0) in the first set, Schnyder's mental fragility began to show. She kept her nerve in the second set however, holding at 6-5 (40-30) to clinch the set. Patty's game was flowing much more freely by now and her extreme talent began to show. Her spins and craft combined with a nasty lefty serve handed her the final set 6-2. "Overall I'm happy with the way I played. I could have finished it in straight sets but it was a good experience. I thought that she competed really well. She never gave up."

Patty (playing with Stanislas Wawrinka) has not played mixed doubles or women's doubles yet (with Ksenia Palkina of course) and will probably start on Day 4.

:bigclap: Good luck to Patty for the rest of the tournament! :bigclap:

Top seed survives despite struggle.

http://www.abc.net.au/tennis/galleries/day2/images/12.jpg
World number one, Anastasia Myskina overcame a talented Iveta Benesova, to advance to the fourth round in Melbourne, Australia.

In what was a highly anticipated second round match up, the tennis in fact, lived up to expectations, as Czech newcomer Iveta Benesova took on Russian and world number one, Anastasia Myskina.

As the match commenced, Myskina looked content on the court. Indeed, she was taking the ball upon arise and her timing was faultless. However, Benesova hadn't reached the Wellington final last week for nothing. She was putting pressure on her Russian opponent early on the in the first game, and continued attacking the Myskina serve whenever the opportunity cropped up. After a disappointing result to Anna Kournikova in Canberra last week (who later went on to win the title), Myskina was still battling her mentail strength, and she still didn't look completely comfortable on the court, despite her early success on the tour.

Moreover, the Czech carried out several well-constructed points- while all Myskina could do at this point was to produce either an error or a winner. As Benesova suprisingly broke the top seed, she maintained the momentum throughout the following game and held for a 2:0 lead.

As the fisrt set resumed, Iveta Benesova eventually reached a 4:2 lead, where she further capitalised on this already suprising lead to 5:2- crushing a backhand winner down-the-line and leaving the world number one to chase a lost point.

Myskina, however, found some rhythm in the following game. With power and aggression boiling over in her head, Myskina produced a blinding forehand winner across-the-court. She then broke back to a 3:5 deficit, only to lose the following game- and more importantly, the set, with another dismal error.

Although Benesova's confidence may have reached sky-high after capturing the opening set, she wasn't showing any signs of nerves. She continued playing her effective game, and it wasn't until 4:4 in the second set, that both players began to feel the pressure.

Benesova appeared frustrated after Myskina ran down a forehand for an entertaining winner, and screeched in anguish. Myskina had her moment at 5:4, whilst serving for the set. The Russian shouted and screamed at her own stupidity, after she missed 2 set points, for a chance to level the match.

The standard of tennis remained somewhat similar for the remainder of the set. The top seed notifying the crowd she was at the top, barely scraping the top of the net as she moved to a 6:5 lead.

Myskina carried the momentum to a final and deciding set, pounding her 14th winner to seal it 7:5.

During third set, Myskina and Benesova had no trouble holding serve. In fact, both players totalled 4 aces a piece to level the match once again at 4:4.

Myskina kept on fighting for the remainder of the match, enduring and conceding the remarkable standard her Czech opponent was performing. However, Myskina was just getting better and better, as she began to overpower and predict Benesova's game.

Myskina, 24, carried onward and upheld her winner count to 22 and was eventually proven too strong for the likes of Benesova.

The Russian setting up a fourth round clash with the Netherlands' Michaella Krajicek- and advancing with a 3:6, 7:5, 7:5 win.

__________________________________________

"Yeah, I mean, that was a close match, for sure. There were stages in the match where I thought I couldn't do it, but you just have to keep on fighting and proving to yourself you can do it. I have played so many three set matches. I would greatly benefit from a smaller, quicker match- whether I win or I lose. These matches are draining- physically and mentally. I'm all over the place in my head at the moment, but I'm very satisfied to be the winner today. Iveta played a very good match. I wasn't suprised at all, with how well she played. Last night I dreamt I lost ... I don't know if that helped me want to win more today.

I want the title this week, so badly. Of course, Michaella will be difficult to beat. I don't know much about her, so I'll have to do some back ground work. I'd like to say "I'm gonna lose that match", but I have to remain positive and remember what I'm here for."

Anastasia Myskina chats to Australian commentators, following her three set "struggle" over Iveta Benesova.

Ana Ivanovic in action tomorrow

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/cpg133/albums/model/normal_miami22.jpg

In her first 2 days of the season's first Grand Slam, Ana Ivanovic didn't have to play a single match. She spent her first 2 days touring around the scenic places in Melbourne.

"I've had a nice break. Melbourne is very clean and interesting. I love the scenery here. These 2 days, I've spent my time watching the action unfold. I was watching my friends' matches. I'm very happy for Anastassia Rodionova and Myskina's victories."

Ana will finally step onto court tomorrow, playing 3 matches in one day.

"I've got singles, doubles and mixed doubles tomorrow. So I guess I really have to rest well today. I hope I won't be too exhausted by my third match and hopefully win them all."

Ana is the 4th seed in the singles draw and the 6th seed in doubles in Rodionova.

"Yes, being seeded adds more pressure. I hope I won't crumble under the expectations. I just hope to win my matches tomorrow."

Davenport moves on in Style

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/01/25/davenport_gallery__421x550.jpg

Lindsay Davenport powered her way past Jelena Jankovic to move into the last 16 of the Australian Open. In the 6-2 7-5 win, Davenport played well throughout, yet there were some challenges from Jankovic.

In the third Round Davenport plays 6th seeded Russain Maria Sharapova.

"Well today was a tough match from start to finish. In the first set i was really allowing everything to flow and hit good clean shots. But in the second, Jelena really stepped it up and it was great how i was able to close it out

Yeh, well up, next is Sharapova. Im just going to stick to my game and play the ball the way I want and hopefully we will see a win. But for now its onto the practice court and getting ready. Im really excited for the match, as it should be some high quality tennis.".

Firstly in the Round 16; Clijsters faces home favourite Australian Alicia Molik.

Ana Ivanovic passes test with flying colors

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/cpg133/albums/AO/normal_AO07.jpg

Ana Ivanovic won all her 3 matches today to advance to the round of 16 in style. With each match, Ana grew more confident and ended the day with a comfortable straight sets win in doubles.

Ana beat Anna-Lena Groenefeld in singles, 5-7 6-1 6-1. She paired up with Davydenko to thrash Jankovic/Monfils 6-1 6-2 and lastly, Ivanovic/Rodionova beat Smashnova/Peer 6-4 6-3.

"I'm very pleased with my performance! Anna-Lena played a really good first set but she kind of faded away. So I did not have much difficulty after that. In my mixed doubles match, Davydenko and I really clicked very well. So we didn't have any problems compared to Jankovic and Monfils. They looked pretty lost on the court. In my last match at night, I paired up with Rodionova to beat the Isreali pair Smashnova and Peer. It was very hard fought and I have to thank Rodionova for cheering me on when I got tired."

Ana is now in the Round of 16 for all 3 events.

Seles blasts Venus to set up showdown with Hingis

http://www.monicaseles.de/2002/indian02/02indianL32sucha02.jpg

Melbourne: Monica Seles, fresh off the comeback trail, continued her march in the LTT Australian Open with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-2 win over compatriot Venus Williams. Seeded tenth, Seles used her 81% first-serve percentage and laser-like returns of serve to quickly get the role of the aggressor. Dominating rallies from the back of the court, with acute angles, Seles kept Williams off balance and never allowed her a chance to get into the match. Not surprisingly, Seles was more than pleased with her performance afterwards. "I'm just very pleased with my performance today. I know Venus is a such a good player and it's unfortunate she couldn't bring her 'A' game to the court today. I've had days like that and it isn't a good feeling.", Seles said.

Seles will do battle with the eighth-seeded Swiss sensation Martina Hingis for a spot in the quarterfinals. Hingis is a former world number one and has played precision tennis throughout the fortnight. "Martina is going to be a very difficult proposition. I'm looking forward to it though, because she's such a great competitor and whenever you play someone that good, it's bound to be a special match. We're veterans on the Tour and have experience, so hopefully nerves won't be a factor.", Seles said.

Seles and her permanent partner, Alexandra Stevenson chose a wonderful time to win their first match as a team, defeating Tatiana Golovin and Jelena Dokic 7-5, 7-5. "I had just been holding Alex back so much with my crap play all season, but playing last week with Jennifer freed me of my inhibitions and we thrashed Justine and Venus and now I'm using that confidence with Alex's superb serve and net game to win us matches. We're a great team and get along so well off the court, which is important.", Seles said.

The Hingis and Seles match is the highlight of the tournament and one only hopes that it lives up to all the hype.

Schnyder Gets Revenge

http://www.patty-schnyder.com/zurich0513.jpg

Patty won two out of three matches she played today. First came the singles. Taking on Flavia Pennetta, Patty knew it would be close. Flavia had beaten Schnyder in their previous match in three sets. This time was different. After trailing 4-0 in the first set, Schnyder called on support from her friends to lift her spirits. "I was struggling. I couldn't make a ball in the court." Then something changed. She didn't know what had changed, but something felt different, and her play improved greatly. After storming back to take the first set in a tiebreaker, Patty rolled smoothly through the second set, taking it and the match 7-6(4), 6-4. Patty's next match will surely be tough. She next faces red-hot Anna Kournikova, the number two seed. Next up for Patty was mixed doubles. Her partner sucked today. She was embarrassed to be seen on court with him so his name will not be mentioned in this article. Needless to say, they lost in straight sets. The sad part is, they won 11 games :tape:. In doubles, Schnyder and Ksenia Palkina finally got a win. After bowing out in the first round in their last two tournaments, they won their match in three sets today. Next up for them is the pairing of Dinara Safina and Catalina Castano.

:bigclap: Good luck Patty :bigclap:

Anna Kournikova(2) def. Tatiana Golovin 7-5 7-5
Ogrecia Molik/Random guy def. Kournikova/Gambill 6-4 6-2

Melbourne, Australia --- Kournikova's winning streak continues aftear beating her 2rd opponent, Tatiana Golovin, in straight sets. After a busy last week in Caberra where she won her first tier I title beating the likes of the Vampire, Anna is obviously the heavy favourite to take home the title in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. In her debut here she had an easy opponent in Tatiana Golovin, but Anna had more problems than she expected against the fiesty french.

"It was a strange match, I played pretty bad and was distracted by her nose constantly. It was really thoug mentally" said Kourni after the match.

In the third round of the tournament Anna will face one of the players she loves the most, Miss Orange juice, Tropicana Schnyder. "It will be a short match that's for sure, once she drops her serve she'll tank... It will be a fun match, we both appreciate each other (laughter)"

http://www.tennis-lady.ch/akimg/2003/2/Melbourne12.jpg

Kournikova pumps her first after another double fault hit by Golovin

Kournikova's bad form continued in the mixed competition, where she fell in the second round against local team Molik and Woodbrige. Kournikova's net skills weren't enough to match Gambill and his error festival and lost the match against the unknown aussies in straight sets 6-4 6-2. But fans, don't worry your beloved Anna is still alive in the doubles competition with Maria Skankpova.

"What can I say about this loss... Like Nasty Myskina trends to repeat in each of her interviews about her loss against me... I'm really disappointed to lose against Ogrecia Moolik an her teammate, I'm way better than this. Adidas forced me to play doubles with Gambill and here's the result, this will be the last time I play in mixed"
