The Russian comments to the Canberra officials on her thoughts for her first round match up against Sania Mirza.

"I think she had a good win last week, then I remember she had a big match with Kim. I don't really know what to expect though. It should be a good match though, and I'm looking forward to it.

It feels weird to be here in Canberra, especially since I just won the title in Sydney today. But I did want to get here early to practice! Also I'm not fully concentrated these past few hours. I'm still trying to come to terms that I am the best female tennis player in the world!"

Justine Henin-Hardenne is ready to take on Ana Ivanovic in her opening round of this Tier I, Canberra. Justine had a good showing last week, getting to the Quarters before falling to Kim Clijsters. JHH has won the last two doubles titles with partner Venus Williams, and they are just dominating, right now. In Canberra they will try to keep the momentum going and win this title also. However, JHH, wants more wins in singles. She will be looking for a big one, trying to upset Ivanovic. Good luck JHH!

Farina Elia Little Worried By Poor Form!

http://www.tennisrulz.com/players/farina/gallery/083.jpg
'Farina Elia Reaction To Losing To Ivanovic Last Week!'

Veteran of the tour and former champion Silvia Farina Elia has failed to re-capture her form from the previous season so far on the LTT Circuit. Farina Elia has lost her last 2 matches and now has a tricky opening round with 2nd seed Lucia Safarova. Farina Elia also has been a little disappointed with her doubles performances this season as well with partner Stephanie Dubois of Canada.

Silvia said at her press conference 'I hope I can pick my game up this week because, so far I havent played any where near my best! Hopefully, it will all start to fall into place here in Canberra and I can gain some confidences ready for the Australian Open and a good seed, to avoid any bad draws like I have here!!!! I am all feelind down because I havent performed well in doubles at all yet and I have said sorry to Steph and I think we have the makings of a good team, but it is taking time for us to gel together'

When asked about the apparent split between the veterean players and the new ones, Silvia replied 'Their is a diversion! We were expecting them to have some respect for us but they havent and have just out played us on the courts! But also we are a very tight group and we dont like being beaten but ESPECIALLY by the new players! I dont really know them apart from Steph'

Venus looks to rebound on lazy year in Canberra

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1120000/images/_1120340_venus300.jpg

Canberra, AUS - Venus Williams, who is a wildcard at the LTT Commonwealth Bank Challenge in Caberra, Australia, will play her third Singles match and event of the year. She opens up against Russian, Dinara Safina, in what she knows will be a tough match.

"Well, I've just been lazy these days- I'm not working hard enough in my Singles game," Venus said. "I'm looking to rebound on my minus record and come through, maybe take a title home in Canberra."

After capturing her debut title last week, Russia’s Anastasia Myskina heads to Canberra as the top seed, and world number one.

"I’m hoping for another title here, but I won’t get my hopes up too high. I mean, sure I might have won the title last week, but you know, there are a lot of other good players out there that I think can really threaten my game. But I like that, I like the competition".

Patty Schnyder is ready. Now more than ever, she needs a win to boost her confidence. Her draw is not exactly the kind of path she needs. She plays against the steady veteran Lindsay Davenport in her opener. If she can manage to bring down Lindsay, then she will likely have number 4 seed Martina Hingis. "I just want to say good luck to all of my friends in the tournament: Anastasia, Ksenia, and Kimmie. Lets hope this new generation can take over this tournament!!!"

Patty and Ksenia are the 7 seeds in doubles and open up against the pairing of Dokic/Sprem. Good luck to everyone!

J. JANKOVIC ARRIVES IN CANBERRA

An interview with:

JELENA JANKOVIC

THE MODERATOR: Questions for Jelena, please.

Q: How do you feel about your draw this week?
JJ: It's, you know, not so good. Obviously a top 5 player is never good to open up against. I feel like I got an upset last week and it really helped my confidence. I know Maria is a good player. She hits the ball very hard. I don't have much respect for her as a person, but her game is something great. She'll probably make some, you know, rude comments afterward but I'm just not going to let her get to me. Just going to focus on my game.

Q: What would it mean to beat Maria, first round?
JJ: It would be a great win but, it is only first round.

Q: How do you feel this week?
JJ: I feel confident. No jetlag or anything. Not a long way to travel. Plus I didn't stay for all of last week. I left after the quarterfinals.

Q: What are some goals you have set for yourself?
JJ: This week, I'd just like to win a few matches so I can feel my best for my first grand slam ever and maybe even snatch a seeding there.

Q: What about some goals for the season?
JJ: Oh, I don't know. For now I am focused on winning matches in hopes of a top twenty, you know, in hopes of entering the top twenty soon.

Q: Thank you for your time, Jelena.
JJ: Thanks a lot.

Clijsters returns to training

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/573/1z-sanexextras01-8.jpg

Canberra, Australia - Kim Clijsters has returned to training in a bid to be fit in time for the Australian Open that gets underway in Melbourne next week.

The world number five is doubtful for the Melbourne Grand Slam after seriously injuring her left wrist playing Qantas International in last week's first T1A Event in Sydney.

After losing in the Semifinals last week to current World Number Myskina, Kim Clijsters had hoped to resume training the next day, ahead of the Commonwealth Bank Challenge but was forced to delay training by three days after re-aggravating the problem in her semifinal.

Clijsters Coach; Robyn Munchen told a news conference on Monday evening that Clijsters had been doing some light training but would not make a final decision, until she resumed training early Tuesday morning.

"It's going all right," Clijsters Coach said. "She had a light hit this morning but we're just taking it day by day. She seemed to look very comfortable."

Fifth-Seeded Clijsters, faces a dangerous opponent unseeded Serena Williams in the first round.

Look like everyone knows what I do outside tennis courts! It makes me feel isolated and lonely. I'm really angry with her and want to punch her fugly face! I only have friend in the tour is Svetlana Kuznetsova and she understands me."

The players who played the first season of v.1 already recognised her and well known as the sluttiest player even more than Anna Kournikova! Bovina only had sex with hot young guys and Kournikova only want sex with FAT UGLY RICH MEN! Eww! How gross, is that?

http://www.tennisrulz.com/photos/ivanovic01.jpg

Ana Ivanovic, the 6th seed, overcame Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium in straight sets in their first round encounter. She beat Justine 6-3 6-3.

"Justine didn't play well and I was able to capitalise. I would like to thank my coach who gave me a lot of advice as he was a former coach of Justine."

Ana is also in the doubles draw, partnering Anastasia Myskina, the top seed for singles.

"I'm very excited to have the chance to pair up with Anastasia. She's an amazing player and I hope to gain some experience from her!"

"I cant believe i am still injured. This week was supposed to be a great comeback week for me, yet i am still having to call the trainer in my matches. All patty had to do was keep the ball in, as evident my her 2 winners, 1 which cliped the net and trickled over.

Its hard to play when you are in this state, if the Australian Open was not next week then i would have pulled out, but ill play that with the injury just because of the fact that it is a Grand Slam and nothing more.

These girsl are really lucky that i am injured. Believe me, im gettin hungry, and as soon as my body is right they wont know what has hit them, but for now i wish them the best of luck, because they aint goin to win anything when Lindsay Davenport is back in business.

Nicoles Vaidisova, 16 year old youngster on the LTT tour, won her firest round match against #4 seeded Martina Hingis. "This is exciting for me to knock off a top seed but it was only the first round and I need to make it farther to be satisfied," said Nicole after the match.

Nicole's career record is 2-2 now with a 2nd round appearance in Beijing and a first round exit in Sydney. Nicole is hoping for a quarterfinal appearance in Australia's capital city, Canberra.

Capriati knocks out Karatencheva
Jennifer gets first tour win
http://www.jennifercapriatitennis.com/Jennifer%20Capriati1/images/capriati_2001toronto15.jpg
J.Capriati waves after beating Bulgarian Sesil Karatenchevea 6-4,6-1. Capriati earned her first tour win in matchplay.
FINALLY! Jennifer Capriati has won a match on tour. Capriati celebrated a 6-4,6-1 win with a fist pump after taking out Sesill Karatencheva. Capriati played good tennis in the first set, but she was also nervous. Finally at 5-4 Sesil double faulted twice and Jennifer rifled two forehand winner returns. Jennifer finished off the second set in 19 minutes.
"I am relieved to get a win on tour, this is a tough thing to do with so many good competitors. I think next round will be the big test vs (No.3) Kim Clijsters" remarked a happy Capriati.
Jennifer knows how it's done in Carabanna. She practices after this article and will continue doing volly work. Jennifer missed 14 vollys today. She wasn't please with that. All in all Jennifer is trying to rack up the wins in order to establish herself on tour. Come on Capriati vs Clijsters!

FINALLY!!!

http://www.patty-schnyder.com/zurich0217.jpg
Patty Schnyder raises her arms in the air after finally winning a singles match on the LTT!

Patty has done it! She defeated American Lindsay Davenport 6-0, 7-5 in just 62 minutes. Patty was playing just outstanding tennis right from the start and took control of the points. Ending up with 9 aces, 0 double faults, 30 winners, and 10 unforced errors, Patty deserved this win. "I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was part of a very prestigious groups of newcomers coming into this tournament but I didn't feel like I deserved to be in that group. Now I have proved to the world and to my fellow competitors that I am a dangerous force in the game!" Next up for Patty is Nicole Vaidisova who upset Martina Hingis in straight sets. "I am optimistic about my chances against her. It would be amazing for me to reach the quarterfinals here! So far, the newcomers group have dominated the field. Let's hope it can continue!" Patty's doubles partner, Ksenia Palkina, lost a very tight match to top-tenner Monica Seles. Patty and Ksenia will play doubles tomorrow. "I want to thank my friends on the tour for supporting me through the past couple of weeks. They have really helped to keep my spirits high!" Good luck Patty in the Round of 16!

6-2, 6-1

An interview with:

JELENA JANKOVIC

THE MODERATOR: Questions for Jelena.

Q: That was over in 54 minutes. How tough is this to take?
JJ: It really just, you know, does not help me with my confidence for the Open.

Q: How was your form out there?
JJ: Poor. Obvioulsy, not good. Maria played well but I really played terrible.

Q: You made 20 unforced errors to just 7 winners. Does that really sum it up for you?
JJ: Yes. I mean, I don't even know what to say. This was humiliating. I think if, maybe, my serve had been on today I could have challenged Maria a bit more. But, you know, you can't always win.

Q: Will you be sticking around until the tournament is complete?
JJ: My tournament is complete. I leave tomorrow to start training for Australian Open on Thursday.

Q: Sorry for your loss Jelena, good luck at the Australian Open.
JJ: Thank you.

Myskina advances despite scare.
http://www.wtatour.com/global/photos_rx/myskina_6171_rx.jpg
Top seed Myskina maintains she played a good match despite the struggle.

Top seed in Canberra this week, Anastasia Myskina suffered a first round scare against India's Sania Mirza.

The newly crowned world number one Myskina, dropped the first set 7 games to 5, before recovering to fight back from a break behind, early on in the second set. Myskina then went on to take the final set in a high-quality hitting standard, before taking the encounter 5:7, 6:4, 7:5.

"I knew, as soon as I saw the draw that this would certainly be a difficult match. Of course, I didn't expect it to be as difficult as it was, but I'm not going to be looking for excuses here. I mean, she played very, very well. I had to dig deep, and produce the winner. I think I did a good job to win today.

Jelena will be difficult to beat as well. I believe I can do it though. I mean, I did it last week- I don't see why I can't do it again, you know".

Clijsters overcomes Capriati

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/3103/21238795167clijsters.jpg

Fifth seed Kim Clijsters earned a third consecutive Quaterfinal appearance on the LTT, to set up a clash with Karolina Sprem after battling to a three-set victory against American Jennifer Capriati.

The injured 22-year-old Belgian secured her third consecutive appearance, reaching the quaters with a 6-2 2-6 6-4 win against the American on court one.

Clijsters went on the attack immediately despite having a heavily strapped wrist, charging to the net at every opportunity in the opening game which she took to love.

The world number five broke serve immediately after she skied a baseline return at 30-40 only for Capriati to send wide a high backhand.

Clijsters held serve and broke again when her opponent overhit a forehand to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Capriati fought back trailing 2-5. Clijsters then broke again with a smart volley to take the set in just 28 minutes after an exciting exchange at the net.

"I played a confident first set, really mixing it up, I knew I couldn't come out and pound away against Jennifer. I was always trying to make my way to the net."

In the second set, at 1-0, Clijsters lost six of the final seven games in the second set, but broke Capriati's first service game in set three and never looked back, firing 9 aces in the triumph.

"I don't think I played so much better in the third set. I guess I made less errors," Clijsters said. "She benefited from my errors. Plus she plays well. I was playing a good player."

In the Doubles, Clijsters/Haynes defeated Chakvetadze/Safina 6-7(4) 7-5 6-2.

Shyperova screams into quarterfinal

Rd 1 : (3) Princess Sharapova def. Jelena "Hingis Killer" 6-2 6-1
Rd 2 : (3) Princess Sharapova def. Sonya Jeyaseleen 6-3 3-6 6-3

Canberra, Australia.

The Princess of LTT, Maria Shyperova of Russia/USA/Serbia has reached another quarterfinal, after disposing her opponents, surprising nobody. The third seeded, was ruthless in today's match against Canadian, Sonya. She was THAT ruthless, that one ball she hit flied right on the face of her opponent and yet she still screamed her heart out and pumped her first and not to forget the gritting of the teeth. She would next face her last week opponent who beat her, Ana Ivanovic.

Q. Three sets match today. That wasn't your trait in the early rounds.
THE QUEEN : "Yeah, that was longer than I thought. I think I played pretty well, you know, considering I hurt my nails last week and lost and was pissed and is still pissed with that loss."

Q. There was one point when the ball hit her face, and you didn't even apologize.
THE QUEEN : "I am a Maria Freaking Skankpova. Can we please don't talk about these underrated players during my interview please.

Q. You were up 6-3 3-1 and then you lost six games in a row.
THE QUEEN : "I am a TANK QUEEN. Seriously, you guys, the win isn't that surprising. Can we like talk about my loss last week which upset the fans of LTT all over the world. I need to tell them what happened to me last week.

Q. But..
THE QUEEN : "Since you guys aren't asking me, I shall ask myself. "So Miss Maria Gorgeouspova, what happened last week?". Well, I hurt my nails during that match. I was very upset that it was scratched and I just got it painted with my coloured pen. That skank, Ana, was just way lucky.

Q. You are facing her next round. How are you going to prepare for this match?
THE QUEEN : "First of all, nothing. And second of all, nothing. I am already the diva. I'm just going to play like how I always play against these B-list players."

Q. Hingis lost early again.
THE QUEEN : "It's not as surprising as Davencow with her old lame injury excuses. Hingis will win one important title and then lose 5463 matches before picking up another title again. And Davencow need to have reality check that her win in the past season was FLUKES.

Q. How is thing with Pornikova.
THE QUEEN : "That is rude mister. It's Miss Anna Kournikova-Iglesias. She's my hero. She's my idol and I like to be the Miss Copycat. We are not rocking at doubles because doubles only for losers. See Justine and Miss Vee."

Q. Any comment on Myskina is the new #1 player.
THE QUEEN : "You are being rude again. It's Anastasia TEETH. Give that woman some respect please. Anyway, Myskina would be the new Serna. You know what I mean. That whore is going to be bitchslapped again by me if she wins her next round again Miss Anna Kournikova-Iglesias which of course will be a fluke since everyone knows that already."

Q. What about..
THE QUEEN : "Sorry guys, your time is up, I need to attend another interview after this. And please leave the check to my slave. *Calls out Kirilenko*

Patty celebrates after her win.

Patty Schnyder wins her second match in a row on the LTT with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Nicole Vaidisova. It was an extremely hard-fought match with Patty coming back from 3-5 down in each set. "It feels amazing to make it to the quarterfinals of a tier 1! I hope that I can continue with my good play." Vaidisova showed glimpses of her potential but was unable to close Schnyder out. "She's a great player. I was expecting a very tough match since she beat Martina so easily. It feels awesome, really." Next up for Patty is American Angela Haynes who upset 7th seed Monica Seles in three tight sets. "I'm kind of fortunate. I had a very tough draw but the seeds in my quarter keep losing. I think it's a great opportunity for both of us to make the semifinal. Us newcomers are really making a name for ourselves." The day was somewhat bitter-sweet for Patty has the tandum of Schnyder and Ksenia Palkina were ousted from the doubles competiton. After winning the first set 7-5, the duo had a huge letdown as they let their opponents back into the match. After Dokic/Sprem took the second set 6-1, it was all to play for in the third. After trading breaks several times, Patty was unable to hold her serve at 5-6 and they lost. "They are a great team. They work well together. I'm sure that Ksenia will stick around and support me throughout the rest of the singlers tournament." Good luck in the quarters tomorrow Patty!

Myskina finally falls.

http://www.wtatour.com/global/photos_rx/myskina_5979_rx.jpg
World number one Anastasia Myskina fell short to compatriot Anna Kournikova today in yet another long, three set battle.

"This is very disappointing. I'm very disappointed with myself.
But I mean, I have worked very hard to get to where I am in the world, and at the top, you do feel the pressure to win. I didn't even expect to win this match today, no, but usually I can prove myself wrong with my tennis, and beat those negative voices in my head, you know?
But you know, I have had a big week. My last three matches have been very tiring and draining. There's a stage where I would like to be more dominant in my matches, so that painful losses like this don't re-occur. But you know ... I don't know if I am capable of that. It's still early days, sure.

I just want to be the very best, you know? I still don't feel like the best player around at all; I don't think I've shown that I am, especially not this week.
I have so much more to offer to the tour- I don't feel I have really shown my true colours.

Today just wasn't my day and Anna was simply the better player. I wish her the best of luck for the remainder of the tournmanet".

Following Myskina's singles disappointment, she teamed up with Serbian Ana Ivanovic (who knocked off Russian Maria Sharapova also) to defeat sixth seeds, Russians Elena Bovina and Svetlana Kuznetsova 6:2, 6:2.

Or something. (Yuck profanity now.)

But to borrow an idea from Barbara Schett (now there should be a familiar name for you): "Who cares? I don't!"

1rd Kournikova/Sharapova(5) def. Dubois/Farina-Elia 6-4 5-7 6-4
QF Kournikova/Sharapova(5) def. Clijsters/Haynes(3) 6-3 5-7 6-1

Commonweath Bank Challenge, Canberra --- Usually what you hear from most players is that they work their ass out just to be in top form, to be competitive on the tour, they change their strategy each week, they work on new things... Well that's simply not the case when you talk about Anna Kournikova. She's just different from the rest... "I have my own philoshopy, life's short and you need to take profit from every minute. If I tell you that I work really hard to stay in shape like most of the people say, I would be fooling you. I enjoy partying with friends, doing work for charity and my sponsors, I also enjoy my time with Enrique... yeah that's what keeps me in perfect shape, he's a good macho men"

That philosophy she follows, seems to be working this week and Anna has been unstopable the whole week in Caberra. In her first 2 matches in singles she bitchslaped her young opponents Chakvetadze and Dubois "I didn't have that much problems with them, they show promise but their game plan needs some work". In the quarterfinals she had to face world's #1, her compatrior Nasty Teethkyna, a match she won despite serving 28 double faults "I knew that Nasty was a bit overhyped and she's ranked at the top thanks to the bad start of the season of the veterans on the tour like Skankpova and the Sergio Tachinni girl. I was really confident coming into this match and that clearly made the difference today, the Teeth is still fragile and she had all the pressure on her, this clearly helped me to win despite my great serve"

In the doubles competition the Glamourous and the not so glamourous one team is still alive despite having the play 3 setters in both matches. In the first match Anna and her copycat beat Dubois and the untalented veteran in a rough match that could have gone either way. In QF they had less problems to send home the third seeded pair, Fiona Shrek-Clijsters and the block girl. "Our partnership seems to be working better than in the past weeks. Maria's finally understood how to volley and I'm trying to serve less than 20 double faults per match, so we're on the right way".

Ana Ivanovic stuns Maria Sharapova

http://www.ana-ivanovic.net/cpg133/albums/Wimbledon05/normal_lsIIrd1.jpg

Teenager Ana Ivanovic stunned world number 3 Maria Sharapova in 3 sets in Canberra, Australia. she beat Maria 4-6 6-2 6-1.

"I'm very satisfied with my results the past 2 weeks. reaching 2 straight semi-finals in both doubles and singles shows that my hard work has paid off. I'm looking forward to playing against Anna. She's a great player and just upset world number 1, Myskina. I hope to have a good match with her!"

Jennifer Capriati volleys during her doubles match with Monica Seles vs Justine Henin-Hardenne and Venus Williams. The eighth seeded team won in two sets.
Jennifer Capriati and Monica Seles won their doubles match today over # 1 seeded Venus Williams and Justine Henin-Hardenne easily 6-4,6-0. Monica and Jennifer just pummled the ball to the opposing team taking their time to use tactics away from them. The team advances to the semifinals of Canberra to face Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova. Go Jennifer and Monica!

(8)A.Kournikova (RUS) def. (6)A.Ivanovic (SCG) 6-4 7-5

A very shaky match from both girls, who I believe are major contenders for next weeks Australian Open. Kournikova began slowly, then picked up with her consistency to finish the match running well and retrieving every ball, she constantly was looking to move forward and attack at the net. Ivanovic was blasting winners and playing smart shots and leading in both sets, before trying rushing things and then making too many unforced errors. Ana also looked very tired after 2 consecutives weeks of reaching singles semifinals. Kournikova's consistency and attacking net play, won through in the end as yet another RUSSIAN reaches a Singles Final.

(5)K.Clijsters (BEL) def. A.Haynes (USA) 6-2 6-3

This match had great domination from Clijsters who normally fights through 3 setters. After 2-2 in the first set, Clijsters was simply to powerful and fast for the young american, blasting winners, and retrieving Haynes attacking shots with ease. In the Second set, Haynes broke to lead 3-0 before Clijsters took charge yet again and fought back to win the next six games with power and precise shot making. The 5th seeded Belgium rolls into her first singles final against 8th seeded Russian beauty Anna Kournikova.
