Myskina was delighted as she was greeted at Beijing Airport with flowers this morning.

LTT newcomer Anastasia Myskina arrived at the Motorola Cup event, which is held in Beijing, China, over the next week.
The sexy Russian will meet a qualifier in the opening round of the tournament.

"I'm very happy to be here. I'm very lucky to be here. I'm very excited to be here! Hopefully this week I can learn a thing or two about some other players, and get some good friendships going. I think it's very important that we all can encourage each other, and break the ice a bit, you know. Also I'm very excited to be partnering Daniela over the next couple of weeks, or maybe more, you know- we'll see how we go!"

Clijsters Ready To Go

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/3241/7875393clijsters.jpg

Kim Clijsters will play her first match of the LTT Season on Tuesday at the Motorola Cup. The Belgian is ever hungry for success, but refuses to set any over ambitious goals so early on.

Clijsters will play a first round match against Anna Smashnova of Israel. She is looking forward to getting out on the court again and back into the swing of the rigours of competitive tennis.

"I'm not expecting to win a tournament straightaway," Clijsters told The Daily Paper on Friday. "I just want to get my game going and stay healthy."

The 22 year-old arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, a week prior to event starting, to get in the extra practice before her debut on the LTT.

"I have been training alot lately, im feeling 100% and happy."

"Beijing is a beautful city, im having a very fun time here." said Clijsters.

American Angela Haynes is very excited about her debut at the inaugural event on the LTT Tour, the Motorola Cup, this week. Haynes had this to say about her prospects, "I cannot wait to start playing on the LTT Tour! All I can say is that people best watch out because I am ready to make some noise up in here. The competition is really tough, but I am confident that I am up to the challenge." Haynes will also play doubles with Belgian, Kim Clijsters, of whom she said, "Kim is an awesome friend and player; I think that we will make a great team and I can't wait to play with her!"

http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/2003/photos2005/0327/e_castanio_ht.jpg

S.Jeyaseelan (CAN) vs C.Castano (COL)

Catalina Castano says she is ready for her debut LTT match against Canadian Sonja Jeyaseelan next week. 'I think I have a pretty good gameplan because I have been getting coaching from my coach Yuliana Fedak who was one of the greats of her time and she has taught me lots of things that I can use in effect against Sonja. I have been practising all my life on clay courts so it will all depend on how I play on the day and if my shots pull off or not. I know already that Sonja is a great player but I am ready to take her on and it should be lots of fun out there. If I win, I will play Justine Henin-Hardenne. I don't know much about her but I will take it one match at a time. I aim to enjoy every minute of my match against Sonja.'

Only for articles this time?

Our old bonus points awards were for:

most articles
player of the week

Player of the week was always under the Tour Director's discretion. Maybe winner and finalist? I don't know, the bonus points complicate things with our points system so I'll leave that up to you to decide what to do. :)

Justine Henin-Hardenne Ready For China Open!

JHH signs some autographs for fans in Beijing.

Justine Henin-Hardenne is ready for the China Open. JHH feels great and is in shape. She will need to get through the qualifing draw although. JHH needs to prove herself first, but she feels that if she can get through the qualies then she has a great chance to make it far.

"I am ready." That is all JHH needed to say today.

She is looking at a bye right now, and then in the next round could face either Jeyaseelan or C.Castano. Good luck JHH!

Farina Elia Arrives in China!

http://www.wtatour.com/global/photogallery/warsaw/f_18.jpg

Italian Silvia Farina Elia was greeted at the airport today with a bunch of flowers and welcomed back to the LTT circuit. Having been one of the more successful players on the tour, which included the olympics mixed doubles title, Farina Elia enters the tournament as one of the favourites and opens her campaign against American Venus Williams.

Farina Elia explained that she has been hoping for the tour to return, so she can show that she really can challenge the best at this game.

Silvia said 'I am so glad its back! I have missed it so much but, I always hoped it would return so I kept the training up and I think it will really help me here in China. I play Venus in round 1 and I think I can beat her and go really deep into this tournament!'

When asked about the doubles, Silvia answered 'I am playing with a young Canadian Stephanie Dubois! She is a fiesty young gun with a lot of spirit and could be a real star here, hopefully my expericence and her talent will take us to the top! I havent practised with her yet but I am sure we will gel together!

Unforunately, my best ever doubles partner Magui Serna has decided not to come back, which I am sad about and Martina decided to play with Davenport rather than me'

Steffi Graf arrives!
http://www2.onunterhaltung.t-online.de/c/20/14/57/2014572,tid=d.jpg
Beijing China- Steffi Graf arrived Sunday to Bejing with husband Andre Agassi. Graf was greeted by Asian tennis federation president Anil Khanna. As Graf came off the planes thousands of crazy tennis fans cheered her name. " Its a amazing atmosphere right now. Of all my years of playing I hvae never seen so much people happy for me." After leaving the airport Graf held a press conference at the Motorola Cup.

Q: Welcome back to the tennis scene.
A. Thank You. Its great to be back.

Q: What are you expectations in the tournament?
A: Well I want to win. Im the ebst player to ever play tennis so I expect to play the same level I used to play.

Q: Thats a lot of confidence. Do you think some people will find you cocky and not be friends with you?
A: I didn't come on the tour to make friends. I'm not gonna be like Kim Cljisters who is nice to everyone and can barely win a title. I'm gonna go out there with determination. I will be ready to win all my matches and I will win my matches.

Q: You have to paly qualification. What are your thoughts?
A: The touny director is a fool. I should have been in the main draw. But it won't matter as I will kcik whoever I face ass 6-0 6-0 or something.

Q: You play Justine Henin Hardeen.
A: Who? I never heard of this hasbeen. She must be the worst player ever.

Q: Thanks for you time.
A: No problem.

We went around the asking some fans of what they think of Steffi's comeback. One fan had a lot of things to say. " Wow. I'm sooooooooo happy that Graf is coming back. Since 1999 I have been a lonely old man from Germany who post on Internet boards about how Steffi is so great. THis tournament she will prove why she is teh ebst palyer ever. While in her mid thrities she can beat the voer hyped youngsters. Graf peak years are 88-89' and 95-96' She will get that level of play back very soon. Steffi I love you. Will you marry me?"

Steffi will play her first match on Tuesday.

http://img283.imageshack.us/img283/4994/lindsay20davenport2097cs.jpg

"Its so great to be back on the LTT tour. Having everyone like Hingis, Kournikova, Dementieva back are great too, because the tour wouldnt be the same without us. I also want to say hello to all the other players and wish everyone the best of luck this week because i think this year its going to be even better."

Davenport opens up her campaign this week at Bejing against a Qualifer.

In the doubles event Davenport and Hingis hope to continue where they left off from last season, winning in Zurich, and have a first round match against Jeyaseelan and Li.

http://www.patty-schnyder.com/offcourt124.jpg

After arriving in Beijing last week, Patty Schnyder of Switzerland shoots a little pool after a long interview with Murphy Jensen. We were there to catch the last words from Patty.

MJ: Patty its your first ever tournament on the Ladies Tennis Tour. Are you excited, nervous? How are you feeling?

PS: I feel really great. You know, I've had lots of practice. I'm kind of like a newcomer because I know that most of these girls have played on this tour before but everyone has been so nice. I feel right at home :).

MJ: Thats good to hear. How do you rate your chances here in Beijing? You play the Russian Maria Sharapova in the first round. Your thoughts?

PS: Well you know, Maria is a young, talented player but I think that I can beat her. I've felt really good in practice all week but you never really know what's going to happen in a match situation. I really have to get going, I am late for my practice session with Ksenia.

MJ: Real quick, your thoughts on playing doubles with Ksenia Palkina?

PS: Well obviously its our first time playing together so we're both pretty excited. We play Marta Domachowska and Anabel Medina Garrigues in the first round. We're not really expecting to win the tournament, we just want to have a good time.

MJ: Thanks for your time. Best of luck to you, Patty.

PS: No problem, thanks!

The Russian princess, the former one of the best players on LTT tour, Maria Sharapova, the first A-lister LTT star to reach Beijing. Sharapova, who won her first title on her first apperance at Moscow, rejoined the tour after the tour directors announced the ressuraction last week and featured the veterans like Martina Hingis, Anna Pornikova and Lindsay Davenport.

"It's great to be back, y'all. I am the class of the competition."

"Graf is an old hag dyke and she acted like she's a star. Davenport acted like she's the next big thing but we all know that Pornikova and Orgasmpova are going to rock LTT. And also Hingis of course."

Capriati practicing for match vs Serena
Jennifer thankful to be in Main Draw
http://www.jennifercapriatitennis.com/Jennifer%20Capriati1a/images/capriati_2003indianwells20.jpg
Jennifer Caprati serves in practice in China. Capriati is training for the LTT first event. Jennifer premiers against Serena Williams, a beastly competitor.

Jennifer Capriati has had her fun touring around Beijing, but now it is time to get down to why she is here. She wants to debut on a good note. Jennifer Capriati is one of the lucky ladies to have a spot in the Motorolla Cup draw that so many women have entered. She feels bad for the ladies in the qualifying draw. Jennifer wants to practice more to ensure a deserving spot in the draw.

"I am focusing on my tennis now, and I know Serena will want to come out strong against me. I want to prove I am worthy of a main draw spot. I feel bad for those girls and realize how fortunate I am to be in the main draw"said Jennifer.

Jennifer is working with her father in pracitce. Some tactics she didn't reveal to us but she said she was going to mix it up and throw some curve balls at the powerful Williams sister. Look out for an insanly intense All-American clash in the first round. Jennifer has to go pracitce so shoo!

"I have no expectations for our match. I know she came through the qualifying very easily, so I know I will have it tough. She is a very solid player, so I'm going to have to work very hard, and give 110% if I'm to beat her. If not, then she's gonna win."

Anna Kournikova def. Maria Kirilenko 6-2 6-4
Anna Kournikova def. Karolina Sperm 6-3 6-1

Beijing, China --- Before the tour ended one year ago, she was the top player "The QUEEN" of LTT. But today LTT v. 2.0 began, and the QUEEN was forced to play the round of the losers aka "qualifying". Why this happened has only one reason... her name is Shyperova. The Orgasmpova is Anna's doubles partner, but after all she's Anna's rival in the media and she wants to be as famous as the QUEEN and the only way to equal this (since she's as hot as the clon of M.Jackson aka Vento-Kabchi) is keeping Anna busy with tennis. Thanks to having to play the qualy, Anna lost 200.000 $ cause she lost the chance to play an exhibition against some rich bloke. Back to tennis, Anna won both matches easily, but that's not new since she only tanks in finals.

"I know this ugly biatch did what she does the best (scream and sell her body) and had an orgy with Drewy and Gary, and forced them to put me in the qualyfing. I don't care about the money, cause 200.000$ means nothing to me, but she should show some sportmanship and play fair... You can expect a cat fight during our doubles match, I'll teach her the ways"

Canada's Sonya Jeyaseelan easily won her first ever matches on the LTT , defeating Catalina Castano of Colombia and Steffi Graf of Germany 63 63 and 62 75 respectively. She surprised everybody in the crowd because nobody ever heard of this newcomer on the Tour. "I'm glad I could win these two matches, I was feeling quite nervous because it's my 1st event on the tour, and I hope I will play as good in the main draw as I did today in qualifying."

JELENA DOKIC battles through qualifying with the support of doubles partner, Tatianna Golovin

http://www.wtatour.com/global/photos/150x200/310774.jpg

The two hottest women on tour has joined forces. Initially Tatianna Golovin was suppose to team up with India's Irici Rai, but Rai's trespassing ass was out of luck as LTT tournament officials could not find a picture of the girl nor her age and birth information. Irici Rai was thrown out of Beijing.

http://frank.wtf.dk/files/pictures/bungee_jump_small.jpg

Jelena Dokic watched all this happen and decided that she should use her sex appeal and previous achievements in tennis to secure herself a qualifying spot in the tour's first tournament. Without hesitation, she also took Rai's spot in the doubles draw by partnering with Golovin of France.

http://www.tennisserver.com/turbo/images/99pilotpen/AlexandraStevenson4.jpg

The tournament began and Dokic defeated a fiesty Alexandra Stevenson in the first round of qualifying. "It was great to play Alex. She's so raw and powerful that at times, I looked like a damn fool out there trying to chase her shots. I'm just glad I used my slice to help me out," Dokic smiled as she rubs her legs with lotion.

http://www.dijaspora.ch/images/small/sport/jelena3.jpg

Then, Dokic had to face Golovin, who was her doubles partner. "I was so scared to play her because over the weekend, we hanged out and gotten to know each other. And having to play her for my second round qualifying match was tense. My power was gone, but my accuracy was still available so I just moved her around to try to hit winner that way. I could tell she was nervous too and she gave me a few free points in the tiebreak. I hit a slice volley that stayed low and skidded off the court and that's how I won the frst set 8-6 in the tiebreak. In the second set, I just tried to focus on serving and placement. We shook hands and hugged at net when the match was over."

http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20040215/s8.jpg

Dokic now face Lindsay Davenport in the first round of the maindraw.

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/images/21_8_2003_08%20davenport.jpg

"Hopefully, I can be at 100% to give Davy a fight. I definitely need luck so please if anyone has a lucky charm, give it to me." Dokic laughs as she realize how girly she sounds.

Myskina takes out Vento-Kabchi.

http://www.24h.com.vn/upload/news/2005-01-21/images449901_myskina.jpg

Russian Anastasia Myskina made her way through to the second round of the Motorola Cup in Beijing, as she won her debut LTT match over qualifier, Maria Vento-Kabchi. In an enthralling battle, the Venezuelan couldn't capitalise off Myskina's high performance game, as she rallied from behind before eventually going down to her Russian opponent.

"I'm really suprised I won this match. Maria is a very solid player. I'm lucky some of the time, I managed to get behind her and take the risk of setting up a point. Today it paid off, and it had to. It was a great match, I think we both enjoyed it. I'm really happy to get through this match and play at least another here in Beijing!"

Davenport Opens With a Win

http://www.ocregister.com/newsimages/sports/2004/09/090704usopen.jpg

Lindsay Davenport opened her LTT Bejing campiagn against Jelena Dokic, who qualified for the event by passing through 2 rounds, both of which her wins were straight sets, however the elder American was able to out-hit and manoourve the younger Serb.

http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/image/gallery/IO_4596_gallery.JPG

Davenport won the match 7-6(5) 7-5 and now moves into the second round to play Belgain Kim Clijsters, who took down Anna Smashnova of Isreal 2-6 6-2 6-4.

"Well yes today was good. Im so thrilled to be back and playing again, and to win today was a really great thing too. Yes i was a little nervoud, but Jelena played so well out there today and it is such a shame that both of us cannot go though to the second round because i think we both deserve it.

Im going to go and practice now for my next match against Kim, which should be equally tough if not tougher, but i feel good and confident in my shots."

Rd 1. Princess Sharapova def. Patty Schnyder 6-3 6-2.

Beijing, China.

Princess Sharapova advances easily to the second round after disposing her opponent from Switzerland, Patty Schnyder in straight sets 6-3 6-2. The princess produced a stellar performance to begin her quest for her first title. She saved six break points in her first two service games before stepping up a gear to ease to victory in and wrap the match up in one hour 13 minutes. She would play her fellow compatriot Chanda Rubin next round who upset Chinese overhyped player, Li Na.

"I felt really good. It feels good to get back into action, you know, even though I had to play scrubs in the first few round. I think I didn't play to the level that I wanted yet, however, I think there's always room for improvement and hopefully I'll keep improving as this tournament progresses."

"My bold prediction is obviously a Skankpova and Pornikova showdown in the final, but you know, the tour is so hyped right now and you might never know what is happening within the management of the tour directors and stuffs. I mean, like just now, I heard there were already a few players *coughDavencowcough* have tried to cheat to win like you know, sleep with the directors and stuffs."

Haynes Battles into Round 2
http://www.atptennis.com/memphis/images/150x200/haynes.jpg

American Angela Haynes won a hard-fought three-set match today at the LTT Motorola Cup in Beijing against the Slovak Republic's Daniela Hantuchova. In the debut match for both players, it was evident from the beginning that each wanted to win desperately. After going up 5-3 in the first set, Haynes faltered a bit and allowed Hantuchova back into the set as she took it to a tiebreak. Having the momentum, Hantuchova quickly went up 6-2 in the tiebreak, but Haynes was not ready to give up yet. She belted a return winner, then an ace, followed by an unreturnable serve. With Hantuchova serving at 6-5, Daniela hit a beautiful first serve right into the body of Haynes, who offered up a weak return. Hantuchova stepped into the net after a blistering approach shot, only to see Angela whip a passing shot right down the sideline. Haynes held on to win the tiebreak 10-8, but the second set was all Hantuchova. After gaining a break early on, Daniela never dropped serve in the set and won it 6-3. The third set was another titanic battle, with both players having leads and match points before Haynes eventually sealed the third-set tiebreak 7-2 with an ace down the "T". After the match a jubilant Haynes had this to say, "What an amazing match to make my LTT debut. All the credit to Daniela, she played incredibly and it was really only a matter of a few points here and there. I cannot wait to continue at this tournament and to play doubles with Kim." Haynes plays her second round match against Italy's Silvia Farina Elia tomorrow.

Myskina battles through, overcomes Vaidisova in straight sets.

http://i2-images.tv2.dk/s/82/87882-826115b04bbeaa5df875e20f1b44bae4.jpeg

Anastasia Myskina suprised even herself today, as she fought off Czech teen, Nicole Vaidisova in the second round of the LTT Motorola Cup in Beijing in a gripping and intense 1h 33 minute battle.

Myskina, who defeated Venezualan qualifier Maria Vento-Kabchi in the previous round with an identical scoreline, now faces Italian Silvia Farina-Elia for a place in the semifinals this week.

Myskina and Vaidisova traded breaks early on in the match, both players not even the slightest bit hesitant to go for the big shot. Vaidisova, 16, was eventually broken after a crutial game at *4:5 cost her the first set. In the second set, the crowd became more and more absorbed as the match progressed, and at one point, a keen male spectator even questioned Myskina's marital status when both players were switching ends early on. Myskina kindly giggled, however showed no signs of distractions, powering her way through her next service game. By this time, the match was getting viciously intense. At 4:4, Myskina clobbered a forehand winner down the line and Vaidisova called out in Czech, due to her obvious frustration. However the German-born held on to force Myskina to a tiebreaker. The match somewhat decreased in standard, as both players were not as confident or optimistic about hitting winners at this important stage of the match. Nevertheless, Myskina held her nerve and took the match 6:4, 7:6. A amicable french kiss sealed the match, as both players congratulated one other.

"I never expected to be here. I never expected to make it this far in the first week! I'm thrilled to be playing this well, especially at this point of the tournament. I've had some tough match to get here, it hasn't been easy at all but right now I'm just so delighted".

http://www.elcolombiano.com/BancoMedios/Imagenes/catalinacastañoREU28032005.jpg

Colombian Catalina Castano crashed out of the LTT Motorola Cup in Beijing in the first round of qualification to Sonja Jeyaseelan in two easy sets, 6-3 6-3. The Colombian spoke to Colombian weekly sports magazine El Espectador and had a few words to say about her doubles loss with her partner Dinara Safina today. 'Dinara and I were just outplayed today by good opposition. We had our chances to take the match but it was very close and we can't blame ourselves for not prevailing in that match. (pause) And in the singles, Sonja was just way too good for me that I didn't get a chance to show what I am capable of. She just shut me down early in the rallies and that wasn't my style of play. So yeah, I didn't get a chance to use my strategy against her (pause) because she was just too good. I can't wait for the clay season to begin because that I feel most (comfortable) on.

Kuznetsova Fights Her Way Into Quarters

Svetlana Kuznetsova, playing her first tournament of the year powered her way into the quarters of The Motorola Cup, where she faces fellow Russian Maria Sharapova, with a 63 67 62 win over S. Jeyaseelan.

Kuznetsova, who received a walkover in the first round, started the match well, breaking early in the first set and saving all break points against her with a combination of powerful grounstrokes and crisp volleys. The second set was a much tighter affair, with both players holding serve easily. The tiebreak was a tense affair where Jeyaseelan really raised her game to force a decider.

In the third, Kuznetsova raised her game, returning exceptionally. She took the set easily 62, though the set was tighter than the score suggests. ''I played really well in the first and third sets, and although I had a second set blip, I feel ready for the next round.''

K.Clijsters (BEL) def. L.Davenport (USA) 3-6 6-4 6-2

Kim Clijsters toughed out a three set win against American Actress Lindsay Davenpork on Thursday to reach the Quarterfinals of the Motorola Cup, Beijing.

Newcomer Kim Clijsters of Belgium defeated old veteran Davenpork 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a tense battle lasting 1 hour and 28 minutes.

"During the match...I was really nervous, I know that was not really the best match today but I am really happy that I won."

Clijsters did just enough to get past Davenpork who commited 55 errors throughout the match.

"I think Lindsay just played horrible error tennis today, she wasn't moving well at all and was looking very sluggish around the court" commented Clijsters

In Doubles Clijsters/Haynes also advanced into the Quarterfinals after a marathon match, defeating Qualifiers C.Castano/D.Safina 6-7(0) 7-6(4) 7-6(0).

"It was so much fun, such a thrilling match. Angela and I have alot of fun together, and are great friends, what a match to win."

Myskina breezes through to semifinals.

http://cache.wtnphotos.com/545/21238592426myskina.jpg

Without dropping a set this week in both singles and doubles, Anastasia Myskina continued her remarkable run with a 6:4, 6:2 straight sets cruise over Italian Silvia Farina-Elia in the Quarterfinals at the LTT Motorola Cup in Beijing today.

The Russian was clearly in control from the outset of the match, dominating her senior opponent and dropping just six games.

"It was much tougher than the scoreline produced. I had to work very hard- thankfully I was able to play my very best today and play some very good shots. It wasn't easy, no, so I'm so so pleased with my performance this week. It's been an unbelievable experience. But now I think, I have to focus more. Now I have gotten this far, I need to concentrate a bit more on my next match, you know. Now that I have gotten to the final four, I have a big shot at winning, I guess! I really never expected this, at all!"

Q. Your semifinal opponent, Maria Sharapova, took out Svetlana Kuznetsova today. What are your thoughts on your next match?
"Well you know, she's a very good player. Hopefully I can play good and force her too play an extra shot ... and then who knows?".

Beijing, China

Princess Sharapova surprised nobody to reach the semifinal of Motorola Cup after beating her fellow compatriot of Russiana, Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets 6-3 6-4 to set up a meeting with another Russiana, Anastasia Myskina (TEETH). Leading 6-3 5-0, the Princess was unable to close the match as mistakes crept in and Kuznetsova was able to take the next 4 games in a row, however, the Princess fought back by annoying her opponent with the constant pumping, shrieking and blowing kisses to the crowd and took the match with a love game 6-4.

"I lost 7 games, do you think I'm happy with the way I played? Daddy is going to scream at me tonight. I think I could have played better you know, more pumping should have ensued. But honestly speaking, that with that face you are facing, anyone would have a mental breakdown during the match."

"Now the scenario is working as planned. Me would crush the TEETH and the two girls on the bottom half would play 5 hour matches and the winner would be crushed by me in the final. Dunzo."

Sharapova was simply too powerful. Be very afraid Martina. Sharapova stormed off with an early lead of 5-1, and then newcomer Myskina just stepped up her level, even when Sharapova was still shrieking her powerful forehands, Myskina managed to break back to only trail 3-5, but then Sharapova stepped it up with constant fist pumping that would frustrate Myskina to lose the first set 6-3. Second set, Myskina turned the match around to storm off to an early lead of 3-1 with some amazing play. After that, Sharapova woke up and clearly out played her fellow campatriot with some fine power tennis winning 5 consecutive games to advance into her first Motorola Cup Singles Final.

Both girls played brilliantly. It was Hingis who withstood the power from Kournikova in the first set, Hingis knew with her consistent game plan that she would get an opportunity to work her way into the match, and she seized it when it came. In the second set, Kournikova started off beautifully, taking full advantage of her powerful drives and completely dominating the rallies with superb net play. Hingis in the second seemed content to be the retriever & play defensive tennis. In the final set Hingis ran away to a 5-2 lead with her moonballs, dropshots and dinky little angles. Kournikova than replied with her great power tennis, but in the end, Hingis simply mixed it up to well to win 6-4 in the final set.

The Ultimate pt. 1
http://media.hingis.org/photos/sydney2002/50_G.jpg
Guess who's coming to the finals?

Beijing, China – Miss Martina Hingis: Grand Slam Champion, former tour no.1, former Director of Authority, Olympic Medalist and arguably The First Lady of the Ladies Tennis Tour. She has once again found herself contesting a final in a familiar setting and in equally familiar situations.

This past week, her road to the Motorola Cup singles final has been marked with trademark three set battles but as well know; an easy match is more alien to the Swiss Miss than an uphill battle regardless of who she is competing with.

Let us remember her path of thorns towards the Australian Open title during season one:

1st Round – Martina Hingis def. Tatiana Golovin 7-6(5) 6-7(8) 6-4

2nd Round - Martina Hingis def. (8) Justine Henin-Hardenne 7-5 5-7 7-6[3]

Quarterfinals - Martina Hingis def. Anna Pistolesi-Smashnova 7-5 0-6 7-6(4)

Semi-finals - Martina Hingis def. Chanda Rubin 4-6 6-3 7-6(3)

Finals - Martina Hingis def. Amelie Mauresmo 6-3 6-3

Damn if the woman doesn’t know the meaning of “dogfight.”

This week has been no different from that campaign:

1st Round – Martina Hingis def. Anna Chakvetadze 7-5 3-6 6-4

2nd Round – Martina Hingis def. Serena Williams 6-4 6-4

Quarterfinals - Martina Hingis def. Kim Clijsters 3-6 6-4 7-5

Semi-finals - Martina Hingis def. (Q)Anna Kournikova 6-3 3-6 6-4

Miss Hingis continues to astound all as how a woman so used to cooler climates withstands the harsh rays of the sun.

So let us now ask her for her take on the tour resurgence.

On comebacks and resurrections:

“We have been part of numerous tours in this globe but the LTT has always been our home. Seeing the familiar faces of the tour directors, coaches and players restores some of my faith that things which end up badly can be fixed. Doesn’t mean we should forget about them but the forgiving part has been pleasant.

I now find myself in another final. I know, I know. I only had one singles final to my credit and that was the Australian Open but I won that in certain fashion did I not? My only fear is that I’m peaking too early in the season and might not have much left for Melbourne. I never lost the AO if you will remember so this will be my actual defense.”

On singles superstars:

“So many new people, that it makes me feel threatened and insecure. What is the difference between Anna Kournikova and me? Besides the Grand Slam titles, I would say she’s more match tough. She did go through qualifying and I’m afraid after today, I’ll be easy pickings for The Pre-Adolescent Banshee in the final. Nevertheless, I might fight or get bored, we’ll see.

http://media.hingis.org/photos/sydney2002/20_G.jpg
Post-match discussions.

Who do I think will shine on tour? I honestly have no idea. From the old guard, there’s only me, Lindsay (Davenport), Maria (Sharapova), Elena (Bovina), Anna, Ana (Ivanovic), Monica (Seles) and Silvia (Farina-Elia). Lindsay and Anna are proven commodities. Monica, Elena and Maria haven’t been around enough on court in multiple settings for me to say anything yet. Silvia and Ana meanwhile were finding their strides in the doubles division but were knocking steadily at singles. I remember Ana’s coach leading his former protégé, Justine Henin-Hardenne, to a triple crown in Australia in another tour that had similar features to LTT.

From the new batch of players, I’ll keep on watching the personalities bloom and wait for Chakvetadze to get a new one. That “This Can’t Be Happening to Me of All People!?” expression she kept grimacing in our first round match wasn’t appealing at all.”

On doubles:

“So Lindsay darling, who was carrying who in doubles? ~wink~ I told Linds after she rolled her ankle and lost to Kim (Clijsters) that if it affected our doubles match in any way, I would be Kathy Bates to her James Caan and we’d be putting up a sketch of Misery. That’s me taking a sledgehammer to her injured foot if you didn’t understand the reference. That motivated her for a couple of matches more before we fell to Venus (Williams) and Justine to whom I both wish good luck to in the finals.”

On success:

“Talk to me tomorrow about that after the final.”

Check back tomorrow for part two.

Princess into FINALE

http://www.mariaworld.net/usopen05241.jpg
SF : Princess Sharapova def. Anastasia Myskina 6-3 6-3

Beijing, China.

Princess Sharapova took an hour and a half to dispose her compatriot Anastasia Myskina in straight sets 6-3 6-3 to reach the final of Motorola Cup to meet the ever-adored very own Martina Hingis who upset another Russiana Anna Kournikova in three sets. Through the entire match, though, Sharapova was coolly aloof, punctuating her play with the ferocious ground strokes and also not to forget, pumping and shrieking that have become the hallmark of her play. When it was all over, she blew kisses to her audience while her father, Yuri, danced a jig in the stand. There appeared to be a case of family relief all round.

"K, see I told you I am going to reach the final and I am now. I don't know why people thought that I was boasting. True, I am full of myself, but at least I prove it with the result. I mean look the Porn star. *laughs* She's like going to do porn now that she lost before the final."

"I am pretty much in control of the things I focus on. The score doesn't say much about the match. It was not as tough as it seemed. In the first set, I was up 5-1 then shrieked a little too much and dropped 2 games. In the second set, she was like getting all weirded. Showing her teeth and stuffs, so I held back a little then. As a Buffy fan, i took precaution. I took out some garlics and also some stuffs and then she just stood there and I just kept on pumping and pumping and the next thing I know, I have already won."

"Hingis is going to be my real first test. This is like the first official match that I'm going to be stretched. I'm just going to work on some of the pumps and the shrieks."

Beijing, China-
Justine Henin-Hardenne and Venus Williams did not do that well in singles, but they really showed up in doubles. They had a really tough road to the finals, but then they brought their best to the table. J.Henin-Hardenne/V.Williams def. M.Shaughnessy/S.Williams 6-3 7-5. Venus really brought it out, when she found out she would be playing her sister. It was a high level, and clean match to watch.

"We just played so well, and I zought we dezerved it out zere. I zink we will really be a force in doubles, and I cannot wait for ze next event." said JHH, after her doubles win with Venus.

They had to come back from 0-2, until they broke back and held to 2-2. Then once it was at 3-3, they went onto win the first set 6-3. But then in the second set, they blew a 3-0, for 3-3. When each team held until 6-5 and then Venus/JHH broke for the set, match, and Championship.

"We played so well, and we really brought it to them." said Venus.

Venus really played well, bringing her huge serve to the game. She had 9 Aces, with only 2 DF. JHH however had 1 Ace, and 3 DF. But JHH really made up for it, with her ground play and speed. Combined JHH/Venus had 43 Winners, to 14 UFE! It was a great match to watch, and they really deserved it. Good job Venus/JHH!

Myskina gutted with loss.
[October 1 2005]

Anastasia Myskina enjoyed a quick trip to Australia last night after her "disappointing" semifinal loss to compatriot Maria Sharapova. The Russian appeared disappointed following the loss, after she apparently left the venue after watching a doubles match, which was scheduled shortly after her own singles match.

[Q]. Anastasia, clearly Maria was just too good today.
"Yes, I am very disappointed. I felt I didn't do enough on the court and I just let her play her own game. Next time, hopefully I can just be more confident and aggressive and put the shots on my own raquet".

[Q]. Will we have the pleasure of your company, here in Beijing for the remainder of the tournament?
"Tonight, I leave for Australia. I am going to watch Kim [Clijsters] and Angela [Haynes] play their doubles match and then my flight leaves at 7:00".

[Q]. Anastasia, who is your pick for the final?
"I don't know".
