DutchieGirl Sep 21st, 2005, 03:07 AM  Now they're calling Canberra "Lyneham"? Where is this I wonder, certainly not the same spot as the Richard Luton thing in Jan? Coz there is only like 4 courts there and they are rebound ace... and I can't imagine they'll cover it with clay! ;) But it's also in Lyneham...
TheBoiledEgg Sep 21st, 2005, 03:49 AM clay in Oz  surely not ;)
DutchieGirl Sep 21st, 2005, 03:52 AM clay in Oz  surely not ;)

AUSBOY Sep 21st, 2005, 09:31 AM Jaslyn Hewitt still not back from surgery
Worst thing was, she had surgery when she was ranked like 307, just 7 places shy of being able to obtain and injury rank! So unfair, poor girl
SeanyQ Sep 21st, 2005, 09:36 AM Lyneham is just a wanky name for a suburb in Canberra. From what I can remember (I try to block all memories of Canberra, it's a fuckin' freezing hole from hell full of politicians!!!  ), it's a fairly central suburb of Canberra.

Yes, Lyneham is a suburb of Canberra, but it's not central - it's northern burbs! :p (Trust me - I stay in Lyneham at least once a year). ;) It's right near the turn off to go back to Melbourne! ;)

Yes, all the other tourneys are on hard, but they also used to have 3 tourneys in QLD and then 3 in SA all after each other, now they have the ones in QLD, the Canberra one, and thn a gap of a few weeks untill SA now... Talk about :retard:ed! Why would players from other countires wanna come here to play then go home, then come back? I mean it's not like we're Germany and we're close to lots of other countries! ;)
The whole "series" is just getting dumb! ;)

yeah, that's my points, and in the quallies...probabaly like 10 from overseas max (and then some would be NZ and Asia). I know there was 1 Dutchie and one Swedish in quallies (the Swede made the MD). ;)
TS Sep 21st, 2005, 10:46 PM On the other hand, having the big gap between the circuits, hopefully makes the draws easier so our hacks can win a match or two.

Noorlander always has a crazy schedule so it could have been... I remember a couple of years ago she played in south america, next week in asia and the week after that in europe...
I also remember a great story about her travelling to tournaments around Europe with her camper ('caravan' in dutch) - she doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks of her, so she's pretty cool in my book :worship: :worship: :worship:

And  That is one crazy schedule! I had also heard about her travelling to tourneys in Europe in her caravan (also english word ;).

It is the same place. The courts in the north-western part of the complex are rebound ace. But there are other courts that are clay (put in just a few years ago) - behind the porta-loos.
azza Oct 7th, 2005, 06:34 AM the WC's are :retard:

AUSBOY Oct 10th, 2005, 09:50 AM Tracey O'Connor gets the LL position!
This draw sucks :(
Dittmann gets the number 2 seed again, Barr gets a seed again, and Sekulovski vs Watson! This annoys me when the rest of the draw is so weak.
You might as well just put the 8 seeds into the Quarter Final now, although I think Beti might get passed Watson again
broncosven Oct 10th, 2005, 11:02 AM Not happy with that draw !!!
Poor Mirelle vs Casey and Beti vs Cindy . . . . 4 players who most of us would love to see playing in the quarters !!

Invisible Fan Oct 12th, 2005, 01:15 PM Hey Invisible Fan! Aside from all the double faults. Can u give us a bit of a run down on the Cassie vs Sophie match. What was Cassie's style like & do u see much potential?
Yeah it wasn't a great match, I've forgotten most of what happened already!
I got there when it was about 3-1 in the first set. Sophie got to 5-1 at one stage but needed two attempts to serve it out. The second set was as one sided as the score suggests. Barr was having bit of a nightmare in this set everything seemed to go wrong. Getting the serve in at all seemed like a monumental achievement for her! Sophie was struggling a bit too but only had a handful of doubles. The match had very few long points and Sophie won most of those. Barr was very frustrated by the end and started missing easy shots (along with the double faults) and it was over quickly.
It was hard to judge the players, based on this match. I'm sure Cassandra is alot better than this match showed(!).

spiceboy Oct 13th, 2005, 06:51 PM Dominikovic steps closer to crown and wildcard
Intern1
Thursday, 13 October 2005
With a wildcard into the main draw of next year's Australian Open on the line, the competition is heating up at the Kia Pro Tour event in Lyneham.
And proving she just might have what it takes to go all the way is Australia's Daniella Dominikovic.
In last year's tournament, Dominikovic made it to the semi-finals, while her sister Evie was runner-up.
This week, Dominikovic, 18, is determined to claim the crown at the $33,000 international challenger tournament, and she came a step closer to her goal yesterday with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 second-round win over Remi Tezuka from Japan. "I didn't know her style of play previous to the match," she said. "She was solid from the baseline and didn't miss much, but couldn't hurt." Normally a hard-court player, Dominikovic has had to adapt to the slower ball on clay.
"I played solid, made her play every ball and waited for the right ball to put away," she said. "My serve was working well, and I kept pushing heavy balls to her forehand and backhand.
"It's fun playing on clay because you get to slide everywhere, but it's hard to hit winners."
While the sixth seed would like to improve on her performance here last year, Dominikovic is not getting ahead of herself.
"I'm just taking one match at a time, and every match I get through is a bonus."
Dominikovic, from Blakehurst in NSW, started playing tennis 16 years ago and is now training at the Australian Institute of Sport.
She entered the pro-circuit two years ago, and is currently Australia's top-ranked junior.
After last year's performance at the women's Kia International, Dominikovic's world ranking jumped from 1200 to 324. And if all goes to plan this year, she's hoping to make the 300 bracket.
Also making her way up the rankings is Melbourne's Beti Sekulovski. Since the beginning of the year, the 22-year-old has risen from 1141 to 430 in the world.
Yesterday, Sekulovski helped her cause storming her way through to the third round after defeating American Kit Carson 6-1, 6-2.
"My ground strokes were my strength, but I didn't have to do anything special," she said. "Anyone can play average, because it's clay, dirty tennis.
"That means you don't have to play your best tennis, just try and get by. It's whoever can hold up for the longest. You have to be a bit more patient than normal on clay, so those players who are patient by nature will do well."
A highlight of Sekulovski's tennis career was making it to the second round of the doubles in this year's Australian Open. She has also appeared in Wimbledon - the movie not the tournament - as an opponent for actor Kirsten Dunst.
Sekulovski now faces Australian Christina Horiatopoulos in the third round of the this week's event, while Dominikovic heads into her next game against Holly Cao.
Play will begin at 10am today at Lyneham's National Sports Club, with the much-anticipated final scheduled for Sunday.

V.Melb Oct 15th, 2005, 10:08 AM Lauren? saw her play at aus open qualies. Can anyone say 'boring' (?). lol. But soooo committed to grinding out EVERY point. Floating balls back deep, or going for plenty of topspin... sometimes she will suddenly try and flatten out, but veeeeery rarely. She just camps behind that baseline and grinds you down!
You can't say she doesn't wanna win though. Apparently she played a young Korean girl once and beat her 6-0 6-1 in 2.5 hours. :o lol.

SeanyQ Oct 16th, 2005, 03:43 AM Thanks for the update Ozfan ;)
I feel torn with this match. I think Beti's going to get an Aus open wc anyway. Based on previous Aus open's, it's Lauren who's always missed out. So for that reason, I think this match is more important for Loz. So I'm going for Loz. Either way, I'll be happy with whoever wins - so long as it's a close match (which it is so far).

V.Melb Oct 16th, 2005, 08:08 AM Well done to Breadmore, a true aussie grinder... she's the young apprentice of Nicole Pratt in my opinion, a true fighter and retreiver, she prooves that talent, power and natural ability is not always as important as working hard.
Shame though, as she moves up in standards, she will find top 150 girls can put her away. But we will see how she goes. ;)

Invisible Fan Oct 16th, 2005, 04:39 PM A bit late, but I was there yesterday so a bit of a match summary for anyone who's interested:
At the start of the match it was well contested with quite a few long points (as expected) and both players holding serve. Then there was a break each and Beti seemed to be getting on top when she broke again to lead 5-4.
Unfortunately serving for the set Beti started with a double fault and that seemed to throw her off and she threw in a few bad errors to lose the game.
Lauren held then Beti had another crap service game to lose the set.
After coming out positively hitting a (rare) couple of winners at the start of the 2nd Beti played really badly to fall behind 3-1. She got the break back though with the help of a dubious line call and then got back to 3-3. The next game despite her momentum Beti started getting pissed off throwing her racket, swearing etc!
Lauren ultimately won it despite letting 40-0 go back to deuce. She then broke for 5-3. When Lauren served for it Beti played probably her best game of the match hitting a forehand winner then 'outlasting' Lauren in a 30 or 40 shot rally. She was agreesive in this game and Lauren a bit tentative I guess.
But Lauren saved two break points, one with a nice volley after another long rally.
Then at deuce as Lauren was about to serve a mobile phone rang!
Lauren seemed a bit pissed by this poorly timed interuption but the thing kept ringing - it soon became clear why - it was her phone! :D
So to the amusement of everyone (including Beti) she had to go to her bag and switch it off!
Anyway she won the next point but on match point served a double!
Beti then broke.
But after losing the first point of the next game Beti yelled out "this girl is the most annoying person on the planet!" a reference to Laurens playing style, which she then proceeded to call "crappy Tennis" so everyone could hear :)
She saved two more match points, but tossed in one final error to give Lauren the title.
Not the greatest match ever although the last half a set was entertaing and amusing at times!
Beti just made too many errors - too impaitent I guess, although she was playing pretty well until 5-4 in the first.
Having not see her before, Lauren was pretty much like I'd seen her described here - moonballing, retreiving everything, mixing it up etc
I also saw some of the doubles final with Dominivic/Dellacqua too good for Bai/Swift. They were too experienced and obviously the better team. Dominivic hit quite a few nice volleys, she was excellent in a fairly easy win.

Typical Lauren ;)
Was it her phone? :haha: ;)

Still got the grunt, it was a fairly noisy match Beti has a yell too and she was constantly talking to herself!

Beti sounds like a bit of a character. @ her reference to Loz's style!!
Thanks for the report!!!
So deserving for Lauren - be interesting if she enters a few more clay challengers down the track. She would cause many headaches!!
Interesting to see if they can land Aus Open w/c's. Apart from the tennis camp, I would hope that both would get a w/c into either Gold Coast, Hobart or Canberra in which a win or a good performance could swing it their way.
patricktav2003 Oct 17th, 2005, 05:48 PM congrats Lauren!!!!!
gillibean Oct 19th, 2005, 02:22 AM How can Lauren be Nike and Adidas?
V.Melb Oct 19th, 2005, 04:17 AM I don't think we will see Lauren progress too much further.... but she is definently dangerous because she is willing to spend 3-4 hours on court to beat you.... also, she just runs like a @#%$. lol. I think when she starts playing European girls... some of them will put enough pop on the ball to force Lauren to play outside of her defensive game style. Otherwise, she does well outlasting most Australian and Asian players. :)
