I wish I still lived in the Bay Area. I find it interesting that Monica Wiesner was given a WC into this event seeing that for some reason or other she is no longer on the Cal women's tennis team (she's not good enough to go pro...far from it).

I'm really curious to see what kind of career Sasha Podkolzina will have. I think she left college tennis prematurely (or maybe she was kicked off...she is quite the diva). She's been struggling to make any impact since leaving Cal about a year ago.

Hopefully Fusano and Kops Jones (all former Cal stars) can qualify!

she hadn't played since February! two weeks ago she returned and made the SFs in $25k Pelham but lost to #1 seed Wozniak 64 76(5), then last week she lost in the 1R of $50K Troy, 64 61 to Vania King but still managed to qualify in doubles and beat Baker/Lubiani in 2 sets...now this week she beats #2 seed Hana Sromova in two sets!! :eek: :hearts:

I'm really sad for Hana...she had a :tape: draw in Tashkent last week, she played the winner in 1R (Kraijcek) and lost in 3 sets.. :sad:
