One of the steadiest Austrian players, Nicole Remis, retired at the age of 25 from pro tennis. Currently ranked only 1030 she reached her career high of 283 in 2003.
She has played on the ITF tour since 1996 and won one ITF title in 1997 in Lecce, Italy

I had the chance to hit wit Nicole in April 03. She was a very sweet girl who was a very solid player. Sad to see her go but I hope she does well in whatever she pursues next!

why do so many players retire although they are quite talented??

I mean, Bettina Pirker was quite good and could have had some success on 10k/25k level

never heard anything of Bettina Pirker, Susanne Aigner or Elisabeth Bahn again. They dont even play national tournaments.

Nicole Remis played many national tournaments this summer and won most of them.

Jenny Zika is studying in the States and may play pro again

Barbara Hellwig, in my opinion also very talented plays only national tournament

Marion Walter, also plays only national and beat Nuria Roig last week 63 60. Nuria reached the finals of a 10000$ tournament this week

I really dont understand that either

maybe they dont get any support from the austrian tennis association and cant afford to travel around Europe :confused:
