Mana Sep 24th, 2005, 02:36 AM It's great to see that Sacha Jones got a WC in to the qualies. I wish she could get on into the maindraw, she played so well last week. Go all the Kiwi girls, Shona, Tracey, Ellen and Sacha!
Go the all the Aussie girls too-I hate to say it but I am accully finding myself cheering for you guys! (Except when you're playing Kiwi's!)

What I think would be even nicer, is if they gave up on wasting a WC to an Asian player for the Aus open every year & maybe thought of supporting a country that is actually a neighbour of Australia & gave a Kiwi girl a WC instead. Since at least 1990 the only WC given to a Kiwi was Erakovic's WC into Bendigo qualifying this year. I mean at the end of the day, do we really care how an Asian WC goes?? Aside from that the favour is NEVER returned!!!!!! I'm not a Kiwi & have never been to New Zealand, however "love thy neighbour first"!!
DutchieGirl Sep 24th, 2005, 12:17 PM Interesting thoughts Seany...yeah it would be nice if they would give WCs to a New Zealander. Maybe Erakovic will get an AO quallies WC next year? That'd be cool...

The Australian Open promotes itself as the Grand slam of Asia/Pacific. It would be hypocritical if they did not award an Asian WC.
Anyway, how is it wasting a WC? Sania Mirza reached the 3rd rd this year, and this week, there are 11 Asians in the Top 100 compared to only 2 in the late 90s. There's no doubt that Asian tennis' future is bright.
Australia is considered a developed tennis nation so it's only fair to award give without expecting something in return from developing tennis nations. Tennis Australia realises this.
Mana Sep 24th, 2005, 09:58 PM A WC for a New Zealander into the qualies would be very cool. At the ASB Classic in Auckland each year we give an Aussie girl a WC, into qualifing. I know the Aus Open is a little bit bigger than the ASB Classic but its a start.
Oh and Marina will not need a WC into qualifing, take a look at her ranking;)!
Hopefully Leanne can get her ranking inside the top 350 by the end of the year so she could be considered?!
Mana Sep 24th, 2005, 10:01 PM One more thing...When does the qualie draw come out for this tourney??? I can't wait to see it!
tobi Sep 24th, 2005, 10:13 PM One more thing...When does the qualie draw come out for this tourney??? I can't wait to see it!

Right, but it won't be long! As long as she gets over her bad back injury, I would rather she fully recovered rather that play and make it worse:(.

Inkymisafan, you were dead right!! It was me you said it to & I was obviously dead wrong holding hope for those in charge at TA. I just sent the useless shitheads an email requesting they get their arse into gear & that they were 2nd useless only to China for results! Stupid motherfuckers, if they won't do the job properly - then quit & let someone else do it! Can you believe the twats never even bothered to give us the Mackay doubles results!?! I just emailed the two useless bastards below & told them what I thought of the job they were (aren't) doing!! This country has a bad enough employment rate without useless turds like them taking up the job!

Mana Sep 29th, 2005, 12:46 AM Groundhog Day For Sacha
[Monday, September 26, 2005]
In a repeat of yesterday's result, Sacha Jones defeated Natasha Kersten (Aus) 6-4 7-6 in the first round of the US$25000 ITF Women's Circuit tournament at Rockhampton, Queensland. Sacha beat Kersten in the final round of qualifying yesterday but had to do it all over again today when Kersten was granted a lucky loser spot in the main draw. The Australian made Sacha work hard for her victory with Jones having to claw her way back from a 1-5 deficit in the second set. Tracey O'Connor also advanced with a 6-3 6-4 win over Adrianna Szili (Aus).

Mana Sep 29th, 2005, 07:20 AM Jones, O'Connor Lose, Statham Wins
Fourteen year-old Sacha Jones has come close to causing a major upset at the US$25,000 Challenger at Rockhampton, Queensland.
Playing fourth seed and 320th ranked Lauren Breadmore of Australia in temperatures of over 30 degrees Jones lost 1-6 6-3 7-5 in two and a half hours in the second round of the main draw.
Tracey O'Connor also lost her second round match going down to third seed and 300th ranked Casey Dellacqua of Australia 6-1 6-3.
Meanwhile at the US$25,000 Challenger at Pelham, Alabama. Leanne Baker has lost her first round singles match to higher ranked American Ansley Cargill 6-0 3-6 6-4.
At the Brisbane US$15,000 men's Futures Davis Cup player Rubin Statham is into the quarter-finals of the singles after defeating Australian David To 6-4 6-3.
Statham plays third seed and 336th ranked Aleksander Vlaski of Serbia in the quarters.
Jones would have never have played in that sort of temp in her life before, with an Aussie crowd. Well done, you are going to be a very good player.

louloubelle Oct 2nd, 2005, 03:35 AM Only in Australia can Casey win a title :o
Thats a bit rough, hopefully she can use these tournies as a launching pad for next year. She's obviously got game, hopefully with some matches and wins under her belt she can make an attempt to be on the fringes of the WTA circuit after the Oz summer.
TS Oct 2nd, 2005, 06:03 AM Beti!!
Always knew she had it in her...don't think she'll get over the line against Casey but she is capable.
Looks like Casey will get the WC, unless Evie decides to play the next 4 and sweeps them (unlikely on current form, but she usually does).
