 Oh, they moved the QLD circuit... that's kinda dumb, coz it made sense if you were gonna come to play 6 weeks, but now girls from other countries have to come for 3 weeks now, and then come back 3 weeks in Nov...

TS

^ I agree. They shouldn't have moved it this far forward.

Evie  Back to beat up on those less fortunate...and then off to lose on the main tour again. Same old story. She will most likely win the Aussie WC yet again (unless she gets in on her own rank) and this will be her *9th* WC into the AO main draw. Surely this must be close to a record for any player at a Slam? There should be a limit, seriously...(and yes I do like Evie a lot, but this is getting a bit tiresome).

Great to see Wheeler back playing these for the first time in a while.

Good luck all the Aussie girls!! :D
Now that Evie Dominikathing has withdrawn, hopefully we'll see 1 of the other girls doing well.
Argeri/Sobral will win the dub's with no prob's. I reckon Monique & Christina Wheeler are our best hopes (provided they're over injuries), followed by Lauren Breadmore & then Dellacqua & Ferguson if they can get themselves out of the atrocious form they have found themselves in lately. Who knows Beti Sekulovski may be a dark horse here after winning both the $10k's she's played in Japan the past fortnight.
I'm hoping for an extremely kind draw for the other Aussie girls though.

As usual they'll rotate them - beti should get her turn.

Surely an Aussie can make a mark here?? But who will want it the most as there will be plenty that will face off against each other??

Wheeler looks the most credentialled of the Aussies, but hasn't played for so long.
Lauren Breadmore should be match tough and fresh and above all - more determined than the others (but if she loses the plot????)
Adamczak - does she get a bit edgy when playing fellow Aussies??? - shouldn't lose to the likes of Szili or McDowell.
Fergo & Dellacqua - surely they should get near the business end of the tournie. (here's hoping)
Dani if she hits form will be a handful for anyone.
Watson - if she remains tough could cause trouble if the others fall over (could be likely)
Emma Kidd's here! Qualify and then she gets a ranking :bounce:

Emma Kidd automatically gets a ranking just for playing qualifying here. She has 3.5 points (won points in 2 tournies) already. She'll get 0.25 pt if she loses 1r in qualies, therefore a ranking even if she doesn't qualify.

No. Since it's a 64 player draw, she needs to win 1 match before she gets 0.25 points.

Mate, you'll have no prob's getting results on www.tennisaustralia.com.au
They generally update pretty quickly (well after trying to follow the Chinese tournament updates they are lightning quick anyway - lol).
But yeah, Emma should do OK. Especially if she meets another Aussie in the qualies.

Still no draws. Here's an article from ta.com.au:
Kia Tour kicks off in Mackay
September 15, 2005

Some of the nation’s most promising tennis players will descend on Mackay next week when the Kia Tour’s first women’s tournament of the season commences.

The Kia International in Mackay is a US$25,000 challenger tournament which attracts international contenders and Australia’s best up-and-coming talent who are seeking the invaluable ranking points, prize money and competition experience on offer.

Players competing at Mackay have an additional incentive to perform their best. A main draw singles wildcard into Australian Open 2006 is on offer to the most successful female player during the six tournaments in the first half of the Kia Tour. These events are held across three states: Queensland, ACT and South Australia. Last year’s wildcard winner was Evie Dominikovic of New South Wales, who was also the 2004 champion at Mackay.

2004 Mackay champion Evie Dominikovic of NSW won a wildcard into the main draw of Australian Open 2005 for her performances on the Kia Pro Tour last year.

This year’s top seed in Mackay is Maria-Jose Argeri of Argentina who is ranked 229 in the world. The 21-year-old is Argentina’s sixth highest ranked woman and has captured one ITF title this year (in Porto Santo, Portugal) and finished runner-up in two more.

Australian Sophie Ferguson, 19, will be the tournament’s second seed. Coached by tennis legend Tony Roche and currently ranked 266 in the world, she made a successful playing debut in India earlier this year as the youngest member of the Optus Australian Fed Cup Team.

At the 2005 Medibank International in Sydney, Ferguson received a main draw wildcard and pushed then world No.27 Magdalena Maleeva to three sets. Another wildcard into the Australian Open saw her reach the second round by defeating Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain before losing to 11th seed Nadia Petrova of Russia 4-6 6-0 6-1 on Rod Laver Arena.

Sophie Ferguson: second seed in 2005 at Mackay.

Thailand’s Montinee Tangphong (ranked 286, seeded third) is another Fed Cup representative in the main draw and is a regular face on Kia Tour. Australians to watch include Australian Open 2003 girls’ doubles winner Casey Dellacqua of Western Australia (294) and talented 18-year-old Daniella Dominikovic (328) who holds an AIS scholarship and achieved great success in doubles with older sister, Evie, on last season’s Tour capturing three titles and finishing runners-up in two finals.

The playing field at the Kia International in Mackay is diverse, with entrants from countries such as Argentina, Thailand, Brazil, Germany and America in the main draw.

The Kia International in Mackay is being held at the Mackay Tennis Association, 125 Kippen Street, Mackay. Qualifying for the tournament will take place from Sunday 18 – Tuesday 20 September, and main draw action will run from Tuesday 20 – Sunday 25 September.

You're right, they have got a bit better over the past couple of years. Still not the greatest though.
I just found out today that I've been approved for holidays from work for a couple of weeks in November. I was planning on going to Nuriootpa (it's a few thousand k's away so will be flying to Adelaide & catching a train from there). I also have time off when Mt. Gambier is on, but I planned on Nuriootpa 'cause it's less than an hour from Adelaide. I don't suppose you saw what Nuriootpa was like did you? If not, how was Mt. Gambier? I'm just a little worried about being stuck in some tiny hole of a town for a week with nothing to do all night. If anyone else has been to either tournie - please let me know, would be much appreciated! Had tried to get time off for Rockhampton (much closer to home) next week, but had no luck.

I certainly wouldn't be angry at Annette for losing. I was expecting a 6-3,6-2 type scoreline. Christina's played MD in 3 out of 4 grandslams & been top 150. The only reason she's ranked so low at the moment is because of injuries. I've gained more respect for Annette after this loss ;) .

Just want to say a huge congrats to all the Kiwi gals who played in the maindraw!

The lowdown on Sacha Jones: (unranked, 14 YO, first pro touney)
This girl is the biggest talent NZ have. I make that comment in total confidence. She is class, a future top 50 player at least. I would say she is more talented than Marina Erakovic, people may debate that, but when she is 17, in three years time, she will be top 150 at least. I just hope that that NZ sports programme give her the same help that they did Marina. I have seen her play about 5 times, and every time she has given a fine account of her self. she first came to my attention when she crushed Shona Lee 64 60 late last year.
Her Game:
Aggressive is her middle name. Although she dosent always seen like shes going for her shots, she has a wonderful ability to wait for the ball rather that just swing when its in striking distance. (Which is the downfall of many NZ tennis players, i.e. Leanne Baker!:() At 14, she is very composed on court, and has great movement. And the key to it is that she is only 14! I love the fact that she is playing pro, instead of wasting her time in crappy Nz regional touneys. Good serve, but a laboured backhand, loves frustrating the opponents with moonballs. A tatic I would like to see more of from her. She is on school holidays at the moment so as soon as there over, I fear its bye bye until xmas time.
